I’m Australian and I only found out that ‘How (are) you going?’ was Aussie slang when my American housemate responded with, ‘What do you mean? I just got home’ 😂 We were both English teachers in Japan at the time.

As an American in India, no, "How you going?" isn't typical. We say "How you doing?' or "How are you?"

The original phase in English is "how are things going". But overtime it got changed in other countries to become:
- How's things (USA)
- How's it going (in South Africa its just "how's it")
- How you going (Australia)
- etc
