Get a DSP and learn to tune. At shows most of the vehicles I've heard are way too harsh. A property tuned DSP will make a world of difference in any system. You can reduce the amplitude on all those annoying frequencies.
@@soldjahboy that's true you can do a lot with a basic head unit eq but once you use a DSP you won't want to go back. Just a lot easier to control levels to individual amps/ speakers and handle any weird reflections that could just be on one side.

I think people are going overboard with tweeters and mids. I’m running 12k rms and only have two tweeters, 4 door speakers, and two additional speakers one in the back one in the front. And my bass and mids are mostly even unless you get a bass heavy song
I think one reason that that many people like "too much" high frequency is that their hearing is impaired (to varying degrees) in that band of the frequency range. I am one of those guys!😂 I dont even have a large system. 2 12" Comp R's on an Alpine mrp 450, 2 horn tweeters, 2 6x9 woofers (non-tweeter/non-wizzer style) in the rear, a single silk dome in each door to compliment the Arnold 6.5s, all driven off a Sony MEX-XB120BT head unit. All tuning done via onboard hp and lp filters, time alignments, 10 band eq, etc. When i start to become aware of, and thus begin enjoying mind you, the crytaline detals in music, some people complain.
I currently do not have a dsp ....will soon but that being said ....i run all my tweeters off my head unit ....and being that my system is in a 1998 s10 ...extended cab....i only run 2 and have them mounted 8in above my 6.5s in my door panels....run 2 3.5 mids in dash and rear factory locations ....2 6x9s in rear corners in seperate custom boxes ...and 1 12in sub ....and the tweeters are all i have running off head unit power ....on front side ...eq set with trebble all way up ....mids set at midway ....bass at lowest level which is -7 on my alpine head unit ....run a jp23v1.5 to sub ...and a 3500.4 orion 4 channel to the 4 3.5 mids and 2 6x9s .....and it sounds pretty damn good ...very clear ....have all my gains set on my amps where at full volume i have no distortion...no clip ....and i control bass by the bass knob as well ...and i can play anything from classic country, classic rock to young jeezy ....clear as possible without a dsp ....about to add a dsp ...extra battery and another 12in sub and possibly strap another jp23v1.5...
I'm running the first run jp84 and jp8 on a 12 inch sundown sa classic duel 2 . Do any of the new dw4s 12 inch subs fall in that same category. I'm still running stock electric but I have the big 3 done
OK I have a great question for you because I have an idea and it may be stupid. I wanna run 4 subs in a big box. Each sub with its own tuned compartment in the box and different tuning frequencies for each sub. My theory is to maximize the bandwidth the subs can cover and I'm not concerned with spl. Does this make any sense at all?
No its not I have 4 mojo 12s Ran 2 on each amp But all 4 subs in same box but has 2 chambers 2 subs tuner to 40 The other 2 subs tuned to 33 I can play every song and it don't miss a beat In a 2005 z71 Tahoe 🤷

I ordered D4S JFX-35 & CFX11 tweeter set (wish I would've ordered the JFX tweeters) BUT got them at a great price and WILL use the CFX11s for a future project, they aren't bad at all, ordered them as some of D4S's entry level tweeters to try them out. This video, YES!!! Why "SPL speakers" SUCK... BECAUSE MOST SPL systems are 90%++ focused on SPL and not on sound quality... EVERY system needs a DSP (D4S has it covered, you're already powering the non-sub bass frequencies, why not make them sound good). 4 horn tweeters in each door will NEVER sound good and I know that will piss off a lot of people but it is true. Even SPL demos need balance and a TRUE Demo (SPL or SQ/SQL) will not be painful for people who are not in the front 2 seats of the vehicle. I'm not dissing horn tweeters, merely saying to PROPERLY TUNE the system using a DSP (again, D4S has that covered). To spend all of the $$$ for BASS/SPL Demos but then the other 90%+ of the time, your system sounds like shite... c'mon man. 100% on point video & appreciate the honesty, JP!! *If you have it and are giving her 10" balls deep, great while she comes around but if that is all you bring to the "relationship" in any terms, why you are always playing 2nd fiddle and never 1st chair. [I had a buddy who learned this after 30 and probably as many STDs later. Use the *BOOM* but *QUALITY* also matters... you can have BOTH, JS.] Sorry, I got rambling but all still true.
Thank you for your input. I've been planning something and I was thinking 4 10s for mid bass, 4 8s or 6.5s for mid and 4 horns for highs because I like symmetry. I do plan on using a dsp and work on tuning it but what's your take on that setup? I can give you specific speakers if you want. I also plan on it being more like a concert on wheels where I want it to be loud and sound good outside the car not so much inside.
Best choice is to get a 2ch amp and get 8ohm tw's and don't turn the gain up pass a half of turn and you will never replace them again i have six in my truck,and eight six in a half's and two eights and it sounds great.

@@adamtheninjasmith2985 I'm a fan of retro car audio products but am a Kicker/Hertz/Morel... testing out the D4S lines guy, actual user. If you have the budget, use the Morel Carbon MW9s or MW6s and the Hertz 70.3s or 700.3s inside your cabin along with the Morel Anniversary 150.2 amps (no internal crossovers, A/B Class pure SQ amps) but that would be a waste in a SPL vehicle... the D4S amps are more affordable and plenty good for a SPL setup, especially if using Horn Drivers for highs. I've not yet heard the Kicker SPL Series but the D4S Hexicone sound really good for that purpose.. again, a DSP is required (RTA tuning in the cabin a necessity, ear tuning outside the vehicle). Finally, there is a fun Audio Control product, the " ACX-3.2 " which has a system microphone and would be great to use to tune the exterior part of your system and also works as a P.A. system with the mic but it isn't cheap ($300-$400). I hope some of this was useful and no, I am NOT an affiliate or employee of any company mentioned here, receive no personal benefit(s) recommending any product or company. GL on your build, curious to see how it goes. I'm actually doing a mountain bike right now, have never done one so thought I would and not an easy project. I run 80 watts on my 4" pioneer pros and 70 watts on my 3.5" pioneer pro. But nothing below 5k hertz and have them open all the way to 28k hertz even tho we can't hear past 22k hertz 😂but I have to replace the coils every 6 months. But does great at the shows. And they hit 118 db's
I have found it's about position and power. I have 4 6 1/2 3 ways at bottom of the doors and 4 tweeters at the top. However the 6 1/2s are amped and tweeters are ( perfect rms ) run on head unit power. Clean asf and super loud goes perfectly with my 15s vibrating my wields apart 😆 🤣 😂. It's about perfrence as well some like the mids more others like the tweets no matter witch u like position and power will make you smile...
Always run my tweets off head unit as well ...with bass blockers ....and head unit eq set with no bass ....full treb...or highs ...and mids just passes half way ....and have never blown a tweet and sounds awesome

I only have two tweeters in my system run off the radio, they are plenty for me. I also have six mids, and (2)6 6x9's, no dsp, it gets loud!!! The mids are ran off a jl 6 channel, 75x6 @ 4 ohm. But I also have a Kenwood DMX 9708s, with plenty of sound features.
Lol where is this magical land where people have enough or more than enough tweets and mids? People 'round here got kilowatts of subs and got two tweets on 30 watts each 😢 I wish more people would compete in a sound quality event just once so they can see how effed up their RTA is 😂
Well when you get into an SPL vehicle that has 36 super tweeters and compression drivers literally 4 inches from your head on each door... you might have a couple too many.
They don't work well in an automotive application. Rainbow used to make a set and Peter from PS sound has a set they are very sensitive to dust and that just doesn't bode well in a vehicle

In any mix of tweeters, are you only supposed to use silk dome or bullet tweeters or both

Don't turn your gain down, but turn the speaker levels down on the head unit.

Another thing to consider is the type of tweeters. Given the 2 examples you have there, horns will be louder on the same amount of power.
I do 2 tweeters for every 4 mid-range speakers .
I have 14 mids, 12 tweeters, one sub
Three 4 channel amps, one sub amp
Four 3 way crossovers, and most importantly….. a DSP

With the bullet tweeters, I turn them down on the head unit. They cut through the bass with no problem

I have 12 mids and 10 tweets. I like the symmetry look. Keep then turned/tuned down and i think it sounds great.

Dont need a ton of tweeters if you have your crossovers correct and not overpowered with good placement
