Thank you all SO SO much for your patience guys! I know you've been asking about when our next origins video would be coming, and we couldn't be happier to FINALLY share this one with you all. Hopefully the next one will arrive quicker xD Don't forget to tell us who you want to see next though! ~Darryl/Lauren
VANILLE! ... More seriously, though, I think Vincent would be provide a very interesting story, if you dig through all the non-base-FF7 games and misc stuff. Beatrix (FF9), perhaps? I'll take what I get.
ff13 was by far the most confusing story to get into, but once you understand the whole deal, it was a truly amazing game. I actually loved FF13 when I played it, and ive done a few playthroughs of it too.
So true. Its really confusing. You cant understand the 3ed one unless u beat the 2ed one but the 3rd is actually tge the most easy to follow. Its simple and stright forward
Me and some Ps4-friends found it too linear and disapointing in the beginning. But later, and even more in the aftermath, I view it as one of the best FFs ever, ^^
Really glad to hear that! I feel that the Final Fantasy XIII does often get something of a raw deal because of how the story was presented and some of the decisions the development team made, but it's still got a hell of a lot of substance!
It is so weird to hear the story of FF XIII told from the perspective of just one character. Really hammers home how much of an ensemble cast the game had, with lots going on at different times and places, before everyone teams up later in the game.
I remember when I saw Light in a Nordstrom for LV I had a heart attack and you could tell the workers were slightly confused lmao! She really is such a special character for me. I love everything about her. She just really is something so unique and fresh. Thank you again for your great videos! Sending love from the states
One of my employers had one of those fashion magazines, and I was so shocked to see Lightning in the inside cover. I dropped the magazine, and they thought it was a spider. Lol
I've played almost all the main FF games, and the 13 series are my favorites next to 6 (or 3 in the US). Glad I didn't blindly follow all the people trashing the series. I really like Lightning's character. My favorite one in the FF series.
Lightning Returns was such an amazing game, even for the people like me who hate the original game of FFXIII. LR was the reason why I fell in love with Lightning's character. Who else can say they faced God himself and defeated him? And yes, for those of you who didn't play Lightning Returns, and didn't finish this video, that happens. Go play Lightning Returns. It's an experience you will NOT forget.
Excellent video, FF Union! So happy to see one on Lightning, as I really didn't think she'd get one, given the, uh, loud opposition that she faces from many people in the FF Fandom. I'll never understand why Lightning Farron gets all the hate she does. She's an amazing, well-developed character with a deep and complex personality. Actually, everybody is a complex, well-developed character with distinct personality traits and many issues that are explored and dealt with as the game progresses. Something that I only noticed after having long talks with my oldest brother is that all of the main characters in XIII (other than Sazh, for whom we have no information on the subject) are orphans. Lightning and Serah, sure, but Fang and Vanille are orphans (they lived in Oerba's orphanage, after all), Snow is an orphan, and Hope lost his mother, so he kinda counts too. They all reacted differently to this, as suits different people with different personalities, and just because Lightning's approach was to try and bury any and all of her so-called "weaknesses", to try to toughen herself up so she could keep it together for the sake of her younger sister, everyone hates on her and calls her "a stuck-up bitch" or "an ice queen bitch" or something else of the sort. She was a kid when she had to become a parent to her twelve-year-old sister. All of a sudden she was the one responsible for the stability of her home. She was the one that had to deal with paying bills, making sure they had a roof over their heads, making sure they had food to eat, that she and Serah would be able to continue going to school, etc. That is terrifying. She couldn't even break down or panic over this, because Serah depended on her and would follow her lead. That is a LOT to ask of someone, let alone a fifteen-year-old child who hasn't had any time to prepare for this sort of stuff. So yes, she wanted to be strong and cast out "Claire" to become "Lightning" based on this understanding, but her definition of strength was flawed and immature (as can be expected from a fifteen-year-old), which gave rise to her initial insensitivity and coldness. Her attitude when Serah confronted her about the whole Pulse l'Cie business was pretty rubbish, but this is something that Lightning, after being confronted with the results of that rubbish attitude and a lot of self-reflection, comes to acknowledge herself, and then works on changing throughout the rest of the game. By this point in time though (at the age of twenty-one), her personality is kind of set in stone. She's stoic and she doesn't deal well with feelings. That doesn't mean she's not expressive, and it doesn't mean she doesn't actively work to be a better person; it just means she's a little harder to read than other people, and the ways in which she changes are more subtle since she's not the type of person who will be loud about these things. This desire and active attempt to be a better person is clearly visible when she not only apologizes to Hope for being too hard on him, but then also apologizes to Snow, of all people, for having taken her frustrations with herself out on him. She shows it, too, when she extends her hand to Fang not once, but twice so that Fang won't try to go it alone, and will instead fight with all of them together. She goes from being the person that yelled out "You want to get tough? Do it on your own!" and "It's OVER. Open your eyes and FACE REALITY!" to the person saying "We understand you're scared. You're not going to go through this ordeal alone, you know?" and "I'm fighting this Focus to the end. We all are, so please, fight with us," and don't forget "We live to make the impossible possible!" Frankly, the evolution of Lightning's character is fascinating and plainly obvious to see...to those that would care to look for it. It just seems that most people don't actually care and get on the hate badwagon either because it's cool, or because XIII didn't pan out like they wanted it to be, or countless other reasons. To me it was an amazing journey, one that was driven by the characters and their various inner conflicts to an end that was mostly very satisfying. And it may not be a popular opinion or whatnot, but I really, really love Lightning Farron, the rest of the cast, and pretty much XIII in its entirety.
Izzy, That is the absolute best comment I every read. Absolutely amazing. This should pinned to the top, cause it really describes everything and really puts it into perspective. I love Lightning and FFXIII so much and this comment is a stand for the character and the game that i know much people don't respect. Thank you for this. I think you just made me love it even more, which I didn't think possible.
TJ Snyder, Thanks! And thank you for reading through that giant ramble, lol. I absolutely adore XIII, and it’s actually my favourite game of all time. It’s so amazing and engaging that it managed to push down games I’ve loved for twenty years, and which I didn’t think could be topped. But the story and all the characters touched me deeply, and I couldn’t help but love all of them. I think the best part is that some begin as absolutely insufferable (Hope comes to mind. I couldn’t stand him at the beginning), but they realize their flaws, do a lot of self-reflecting, and then strive to change their ways. That is admirable, and it makes them very human, which I appreciate in stories like these. The cast is not perfect, and that’s actually the beauty of it. Perfect people are boring, and it makes them hard to relate to because they don’t face any internal struggles. XIII is all about internal struggles while also fighting some pretty insane external circumstances, yet the guys come out on top through determination, and an immense amount of willpower. I adore that, so I’ve never understood why people loathe the game so much. It’s a really underrated title, which is really sad considering how truly great the game is if only people would give it a fair chance. Anyhow, thanks again! I think more XIII positivity is needed, and I’m always happy to see more people that appreciate the game, and especially Lightning, around. :D
Final Fantasy Union. Hahaha, nah. Thank you for making a fantastic and actually fair video on Lightning. I've mostly come to expect either vitriol or a toning down of just how much Lightning has gone through in her short life, so seeing someone treat her fairly is always a wonderful surprise. Have a great day!
This was a great review of lightning makes me respect her as a character that much more. Also, I don't understand why 13 got so much hate, even if you hated the main protag there were literally 6 of them all with different personalities and ways of going about things. I really enjoyed Snow's character as the standard hero saves the damsel deal and Fang and Vanille being the outcasts that ultimately end up saving cocoon, Hope growing into his own character (although ill be the first to admit I really hated him at the beginning, I was getting sakura flashbacks), Sahz for his ability to overcome the sadness in his life and carry on. 13-2 while with different characters was just as good imo. You get to Sarah and how she has the same drive and will to overcome anything put in front of her to find her sister. Noel and his depressing af future, the desire to be able to change. Caius a man who has been so thoroughly broken that he would rather destroy everything then continue on. Idk man the 13 series was great with all characters getting multiple times to shine and just be badass in general, even in 13-3 the most lightning centric game. I can understand people not liking lightning for being too mopey or edgy, but I could literally say the exact same thing about Cloud and Squall and everyone loves them. The character development is just as good and for me at least just as moving. So she doesn't have a love interest in the others? That is literally half the reason Lightning is Lightning because she was so focussed on Serah!! It was all about the bond between siblings and family no one ever stated you need a lover for a family!! like goddamn! I really didn't think I would write something this long in a comments section ever lol but to any who cared to read my opinion Have a fan-fucking-tastic life!
Your only focus is on the characters so thats probably why you dont get the "hate" tho dislike is probably a less insulting term, most people had issue in the manner that the story was told like it was confusing threw to much at you at the start and didnt really make sense until chapter 9. Ive also seen many have a dislike for 13 based off of SE's singular focus on it for almost a decade and Toriyamas cringy waifu like obsession with lightning, also SE and hes constant pushing of the character at every available opportunity. I myself just didnt like the battle system which was a giant nail in the coffen of my enjoyment of the game as a whole.
@@evilcartoonmoon3370 I can understand the battle system hate I know a lot of people disliked it even though its extremely simliar to their other games (up to that point). I never really found the main story to be all the confusing to understand but then again I grew up following Kingdom Hearts story line so... I also never felt like Lightning was being forced on me at any point but I also don't follow square media or anything and to Dianna thanks.
This FF has so many good memories attached to it. Thank you for bringing us this. Much needed. Here’s to hoping they release all three on the PS4 as remastered. The storyline and character development was so original from previous FFs.
I love this video! Well put together and tons of info. I love Lightning's character and story. I hope other people watch and can see her in a new Light (hehe). The games didn't get much fanfare, but she definitely is an amazing character regardless. And the voice actress was phenomenal. ;) Thank you for making this! I don't care who you do next, I'll watch it regardless, I was waiting for this one the most tho. I do want this trilogy so bad for PS4.
OwtDaftUK Yeah, the whole series was great and getting it to PS4 with it enhanced and with all DLC included would be excellent. I'd play them all over again. Probably even buy a collectors edition.
YES YES YES YES!!!!! This was a lovely surprise on my notifications! I adore your in depth videos, and one centralized on Lightning is such a treat! I’m well aware the XIII trilogy, and Lightning herself, aren’t exactly beloved by the western audience, but it was thanks to this installment that I actually got into the franchise! And it wasn’t even my first one. It’s my favorite, though I recognize its flaws and respect the “old school” FF fans and their qualms with it. Thank you for diving into such an incredible character. She really deserves some love, and videos like these give an objective explanation in a way I hope allows people to maybe think twice about blindly hating on Lightning and the FFXIII franchise. Fantastic job, yet again Darryl XD
sambagel12 yes finally someone like me it was thanks to ff13 that i also got into the final fantasy series lightning and fang are my two favorite final fantasy chracters right now
I've been an 'old school' fan since FF8 and I still managed to enjoy the FFXIII trilogy. Lightning is one of my favourite characters along with Tifa, Zack, Yuna and Noctis.
Not only is this the best video for lightnings story, it’s socially a pretty good plot synopses of the entire 13 trilogy. And I’m such a short amount of time, without missing a single beat! Well done
Claire is so great. I don't care about the hate, the XIII is easily my favourite FF. Of course ALL FF are amazing and i love them but this is the first one that i connected with all the party members.
I always worry that im the only one who HONESTLY wants a Xiii Trilogy, But seeing the comments here... I am happy to see others who would also enjoy it
XIII series was one of my favorites, I just adored Lightning and I really enjoyed the battle system as well. Beyond that I reallly dove deeply into the mythology’s as well, devouring every primer I could find. (I forget what the little lore nuggets were called). Something about the brand, the fal’cie, l’cie, and having a life or death mission called a focus. All the terms were exciting and I do hope for a remaster or something soon.
Incredible now i truely know the whole 13 sage and while it got a lot of hate over the years....i quite enjoyed the story. Thanks a lot for this. It would be great if you did this for all FF Protags
This video is amazing! I have like 400 hours played through the XIII saga and even so, had some doubts about it, so you helped me figuring it out. Next character could be Squal, from FFVIII.
Caio Oliveira I put SO many hours into the series, replayed most of them several times, and I still learned a few things from this video. This is a good informative video.
Lightning is super cool, XIII was cool but the "lore" that was created afterwards was insanely ridiculous. XIII has the worst sequels in ths history of FF or just jrpg in general because the first one was so promising.
I have her pic since I bought my phone in 2010 (I bought a new one today... but I'll put her pic on the lock screen again). She is amazing, awesome, so beautiful and I don't have words to describe
The appreciatation & love of FFXIII--not just from the TH-camr, but the other commentors is a breath of fresh air. XIII was the first Final Fantasy game I played & completed, while I know that makes me rather late to the party, it also cemented my love for the franchise. I see so many folk talk the negative of the XIII trilogy, as they only see the surface of the game, & rarely try to explore it's lore & characters, not mention the how the world created impacts the dynamics of the six characters we follow... The positive outlook I've stumbled upon here, not just for XIII, but the entire Final Fantany series in general is more than worthy of subscribing to. I look forward to your next video, mate.
Design wise she is amazing but her character is not as well developed as people say. Lightning admits that she wears a mask a persona to hide her true self. That mask is never truly removed because she is in such constant peril or stress through the entire games that you never get to meet the real lightning. They tried to fix this with lumina who is the part of her personality she repressed all this time but the reveal comes too late and nothing is done with it. I feel like I only got to meet the hardened warrior side of her instead of who Lightning really is which if you ask me is a waste. People think she is a female cloud but that only shows that they dint play the original FF7 if you ask me :(
I beat the game my first time about almost two years ago and then continued on to 13-2 and also finished the story of that one. I really enjoyed the heck out of both especially bc of the ost and the story. I got really busy with work and other games that I wasn't able to get back to the 13 series but now I found my chance to go back to try to 100% 13 and 13-2 and after that I'll move onto Lightning returns. Videos like these are just so awesome to watch! This was a great recap on Lighting and a nice first video to watch of your channel!
Also one thing about FFXIII-2. Before Lightning became Etro's Champion, Caius told Lightning to go home to New Bodhum but she refused. That may be one of the reasons why Caius was so cocky with her in the FFXIII-2 opening. He seemed very impressed. "I must thank you, in these final moments I have met my finest opponent."
I dont understand how anyone can understand XIII-2 story without getting a headache, and use a guide, educating story explanation from the internet, notepad to write which time travelling bullshit adds to what other bullshit and enjoy it at the same time.
At least the story didn't end with all of them dying, at least that is what I thought with the ending of FFXIII-2. Hated seeing what happened to Serah.
Soaringfalco Agreed. While I love 13 and the whole trilogy, the first game only goes deep into its lore through the data logs. But hey, at least it’s actually in the game as opposed to 15 which didn’t even have data logs and required you to go online to look for trailers and interviews.
They deserve redemption. Lightning is amazing and so are the other characters. I hope to see them again. I really want a game where tifa and lighting work together
I'm not into emo characters. And I don't remember Lightning doing anything special for me to even remember her. All she can do is fight. Protecting her sister is sweet, but it gets boring as the story progresses. I prefer characters like Zidane who cares about everyone, even enemies, not only one person.
Thank you for doing this video. Side note, I cannot stand when people call Lightning a female Cloud. Other than the two of them being rather quite and perhaps appear “cold”, there really is not that many similarities.
Great explore analysis Lore video on Lightning, you guys! Thank you!!!! Those FFXIII haters can say what they want, Lightning is my personal favorite female Final Fantasy character!!! EVER!!! I hope Square continues to use her forever! :)
Extremely minor nitpick but Lightning isn't ENTIRELY three years older than Serah. Remember her 21st birthday was a few days before the game's events and Serah was already 18. Awesome video tho. Love this character to death!
The 13 series got a lot of hate but I loved it. It's by far my favorite final fantasy and lightning is my favorite character in any game. The story was so unique and dramatic. I cant count how many times ive played through her games. Loved em!
I need this game on the PSN Store. Doesn’t even need to be remastered, game was beautiful enough and played great. Just throw it on the PSN and Live Store so I can relive this great story.
ObliviousTouch This, I kinda agree. I would love to play it again even without a remastered because the cutscenes look so good already, but can you imagine how much upscaling and enhancement it could get in between cutscenes? The first game was made in 09. It could use some color adjustments and an upscale, at least for non cutscenes.
Awesome video, thanks for it. I wasn't very clear on a few things after completing the trilogy but I am now after watching the video. Great job. Lightning FTW
I named one of my twin daughters Claire after her and we call her Lightning... It's the only ff name the wife would let me pick... She named the other Bella off twilight 🤢
FF13 trilogy were my first ff games i beat. I played x when i was younger but i didn't beat it or understand how to play it very well due to my age. And while i may just be bias. 13 trilogy is my favorite in the series and Lightning is one of if not the greatest character ever written.
I really don't know why ff 13 trilogy is so hated. It's really good and some of square Enix's best work. I played ff 15 and have the season pass and it's ok but the ff13 trilogy is better to me. I know everyone is not going to agree with me but this is my opinion and I'm not changing it.Thank you and Have a blessed day.
The ff13 trilogy is hated because the way the story was told, the story itself wasn't bad. But they loved to throw every type of info at you at the start and confuse the player. oh who are fal'cie, oh the vestige is the fal'cie, wait no, it houses the fal'cie. who are l'cie, oh they do magic n stuff and are evil, oh there are pulse l'cie and sanctum l'cie so whats the difference, and two kinds of militaries. It isn't until you reach the end of chapter 9 that you learn who the main villain is. in ff10 they introduce the main villain already in the first scenario and they do it in a simple way, no weird type of people, just some big monster destroying everything. If you already knew the story of ff13, the game wouldn't be as much of a problem. You wouldn't get confused. They started developing characters in a world that wasnt ever established enough to the player. The second reason why the ff13 trilogy (specifically the first game) is hated is because of the linear gameplay outside of battles. hallway after hallway with no secrets or minigames or anything to distract you from the linear path. You just walk forward and kill everything on the way, the end. Now i don't hate the trilogy myself, i quite love it. Definitely one of my favorite ff games. The ones that i rank higher are ff9, ff10, ff6 and ff15. I like the trilogy more than the legendary ff7. But i am not gonna be ignorant to the problems some games have even if i love them.
I tried to play it, I have about 5-6 hours but I just can't get through it. It's confusing. And sorry, but Vanille and Hope are some of the most annoying characters ever. The story makes no sense so far and I feel like I shouldn't have to play 20h+ just to get where the story is going. I may try again later, but so far that's why I don't like it
the first ff13 is one of my all time favorite games. loved the story and plot more than anything edit:^ the plot is supposed to not make sense in the beginning lmao and 6 hours into the game is still the tutorial.
Because it's a bad story told poorly. I liked the characters but the main plot is very mediocre as are the villains. From a gameplay perspective large chunks of the games are too linear, it's basically an on rails rpg. Even the game does open up there isn't anything interesting to do other than grind.
"Lightning is a popular lady" Could have fooled me, based on how many FF fans seem to despise her. Me, I love her character. Cold and distant types who are secretly caring and compassionate are my favourites. I didn't even know she was being used as a Louis Vuitton campaign person until well after I finished the 13 trilogy and I'd cemented her as my favourite Final Fantasy protagonist. I glamour my Warrior of Light in Final Fantasy XIV as a near mirror of Lightning in clothing and looks, while playing as Gunbreaker for maximum idle pose points. Honestly thought it was more popular to hate on her based on her personality and how she comes off to anyone who doesn't want to look deeper.
Only one issue I have with the video. Bunevelza did not take Sarah's soul... he cannot even see Sarah's soul. He is unable to see souls. He planned to give her a 'copy' of Sarah... a fake... to appease her. Her emotions, meanwhile, were taken from her not by Bunevelza, it was taken by herself to create Lumina over the years when she tried to push away all her negative emotions like sadness and childishness, etc. Sarah's real soul was taken by Lumina and kept safe. Also, I would love to see an origin story of Hope. Why was he chosen as Bunevelza's host? Bunevelza said something about Hope being the best that humanity had to offer. He had also been the leader of humanity for some time before he disappeared... what happened when he disappeared? I heard rumor that Bunevelza spent thousands or years up on the Ark (which was the ship that Hope created in the second game) basically torturing him so he could get him under his will and get rid of his unwanted emotions. Is this true?
Thank you for this video, its great to see some love for my favourite ff character. I am looking forward to the next video in this origins series. However i am also curious for an Etro origins (although shes not a physical main character). Etro is a fundamental character within the Fabula Nova Crystallis yet is never seen, but only depicted in very few art works. She was also depicted in verses xiii and the same artwork was also an Easter egg in kingsglaive.
15:11 Final fantasy Union says they were turned into cieth but that was an illusion meant to push fang to the brink of despair so she would become ragnarok. Their brands became white because ealier when fang and lightning fight together fang shows her white brand saying it becomes like that if you get further from your focus and when the eye on the brand opens, its over
Final Fantasy 13 was the first game that I played out of the sages and I loved it all the way to Lighting Returns, Lighting is my favorite cearitor in the Final Fantasy sages to me she is the best out of them all.
I got lost halfway through trying to understand the story. I'm glad FF13 has fans and more power to them 👍 but man 😐 nevertheless you did a great job with the video.
@OW-Doublelift Hey, why don't you grow up and accept the fact that the words "I think" are indicative of someone's opinion, and that this person's opinion is that it could've been presented better.
Lightning was my favorite girl, long before XIII was even released. I first saw her only in concept arts and teaser images. She had a roughness to her that I kinda liked.
I would like to say I enjoy these origins videos. They give me insight on some games I couldn’t quite understand and gives me insensitive to check out other releases. I would like to see Cecil and other characters from the old games
Lightning returns is the best game of the three. It's a shame so few people played it. And I absolutely loathed lightning in the first game, so it took the whole arc (as you've covered here) to bring me around. Lightning returns is one of the few games I go back to to replay over and over again. (along with 7, 8, X, and X-2)
@Rawr tho well written friend! I wholeheartedly agree. Lightning has a resting bitch face I’m sure most females can totally understand too. Lol I love heading her Internalized thoughts to see how much she grew as a person. She went from being a nobody to rivaling gods and whatnot. A lot of character growth with lightning isn’t just thrown into your face. Imo, it’s there but not everything Is all spelled out. I think that’s one of my favorite parts about the game. And even Lightning her self.
I never viewed Odin’s summoning in ff13 as Odin seeing Hope as an obstacle. I always saw it as Odin’s twofold challenge to Lighting: to defeat him while not only thinking about someone else’s well being besides her own, but also getting help and not going at it alone- to trust someone else to have her back.
how predictable, a well made, well presented video from final fantasy union? honestly! jokes aside, loved this video! i guess i give lightning a little too much flack- she's alright, really ;P great job!
Lightning is just that fabulous. I adore lightning so much and I'm starting to look more to learn about Tifa. I'm also starting to like her. Or and Arieth.
Final Fantasy Union This was very well done. And it helped show how mature FFXIII as a series actually is.
Great job you two. Can't wait for the next one any time frame for when we can expect it.
vincent would be nice but I think Laguna might be nice too
So barthendlus is benivelze?
Lightning at the beginning: "I'm gonna save my sister."
Lightning at the end: "I AM THE GOD OF DEATH PEASANTS!"
Literally goals 💅🏽
just j-rpg
Lmao
But at the same time...
Begining : Damnit Snow!
Later : Damnit Snow!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Good one! Though I'm still puzzled how that happened.
ff13 was by far the most confusing story to get into, but once you understand the whole deal, it was a truly amazing game. I actually loved FF13 when I played it, and ive done a few playthroughs of it too.
I love it, but I'm confused with the last one. Doesnt help that I never finished it
So true. Its really confusing. You cant understand the 3ed one unless u beat the 2ed one but the 3rd is actually tge the most easy to follow. Its simple and stright forward
The first play through I didn’t understand it. Lacie, Falcie, Orphan, wtf. But the second I got it
False Idol though. I actually got into Final Fantasy because of Veil of Maya's Aeris..
Me and some Ps4-friends found it too linear and disapointing in the beginning. But later, and even more in the aftermath, I view it as one of the best FFs ever, ^^
This made me appreciate Lightning and the XIII series more than i already did.
Yep. That's what I was thinking. Lol.
Really glad to hear that! I feel that the Final Fantasy XIII does often get something of a raw deal because of how the story was presented and some of the decisions the development team made, but it's still got a hell of a lot of substance!
Same here
It is so weird to hear the story of FF XIII told from the perspective of just one character. Really hammers home how much of an ensemble cast the game had, with lots going on at different times and places, before everyone teams up later in the game.
It's been almost 10 years since Final Fantasy XIII released. Dang time flies.
It’s now been 12 years
Is it good tho I wanna try it
and no remaster to be found:((((
@@xansaibot3134 What do you want to remaster? Still looks superb. Plus you
can play it on Series X in 4K/60FPS.

One of my employers had one of those fashion magazines, and I was so shocked to see Lightning in the inside cover.
I dropped the magazine, and they thought it was a spider. Lol

SEcond and third: .... my brain, what is happening
Same
@@CHEESEPUFF_7 at least you guys understood the first part x_x
This is so confusing, i feel u.
Hahahaha and for those of you haven’t played LR…spoilers
Pfff LR is an epic pile of garbage story wise. However, gameplay can be fun at times.
Lightning was my role model, I looked up to her when I was a little girl. Now I still admire her strength and beauty
She and Tifa could be seen as FF's biggest icons, along with chocobos and moogles, of course. :)

I will try to make my daughters play these games, how would you say it influenced you in your life?
We all are, so please, fight with us," and don't forget "We live to make the impossible possible!"
Frankly, the evolution of Lightning's character is fascinating and plainly obvious to see...to those that would care to look for it.
Thank you so much Izzy! And thank you for providing such a detailed comment to explain how you feel about Lightning as a character! ~Darryl
Izzy,
That is the absolute best comment I every read.
TJ Snyder,
Thanks!
Izzy
It is absolutely worth reading through your post. Extremely well said. Excellent.
I've lost count of how many times I've played through Lightning Returns 💖
Devon Meyer I played that game through 6 times. Eventually, I got tired.
I probably played through about ten times. I love that game
I cant even beat it farthest I ever made was day 5....maybe
I'm on my 3rd Playthrough. 2 Easy and now hard. Should I go to Normal? Lol
She shines even more in that one. =) The time-preassure was abit too challenging, but can be handled well with good planning.
Most comprehensive explanation of the 13 trilogy I've ever seen.
DaRkLoRd1061
Yeah, it good. Really fills in any blanks you might have.
DaRkLoRd1061
You say that like it’s overly complicated or something. The story is pretty simple, just long.

Beautifully done. Thank you. She is one of my favourite leading characters in all of FF, along with Ramza and Ashe.
Tony Pugliese
Top Favorite character for me.
vanille and even fang is more of a lead char in the 1st 13 than her lol.
This comment is really good @steven
@@evilcartoonmoon3370 I can understand the battle system hate I know a lot of people disliked it even though its extremely simliar to their other games (up to that point). I never really found the main story to be all the confusing to understand but then again I grew up following Kingdom Hearts story line so... I also never felt like Lightning was being forced on me at any point but I also don't follow square media or anything and to Dianna thanks.
Lightning may be my favorite video game character
This FF has so many good memories attached to it. Thank you for bringing us this. Much needed. Here’s to hoping they release all three on the PS4 as remastered. The storyline and character development was so original from previous FFs.
J Kundi
Yes, I am hoping this as well. I'd really like to see them remastered.
That would be really awesome. I liked 13 and really liked 13-2 and loved lightning returns.
OwtDaftUK
Yeah, the whole series was great and getting it to PS4 with it enhanced and with all DLC included would be excellent.
Fantastic job, yet again Darryl XD
sambagel12
Absolutely agree with your whole comment.
Thank you so much for your kind words Sam, it means a lot. ^^ ~Darryl
sambagel12 yes finally someone like me it was thanks to ff13 that i also got into the final fantasy series lightning and fang are my two favorite final fantasy chracters right now
I 100% feel the same way.
George Houliaras agree with you bro!!👍👍

i replay Lightning Returns every day, every week, every month
I always worry that im the only one who HONESTLY wants a Xiii Trilogy,
But seeing the comments here...
I still can't believe lightning was a fashion icon
I always thought Lightning looks like a mixture of Mila Jovovich and Maria Sharapova. No wonder she is a fashion icon.
Lightning is my favorite character because I like her development as the story goes on.
Lightning is beautiful, strong, smart but most of all she has a heart. I love her so much
Lol 😂
@@jaded1978 love how nobody liked your comment so it's definitely not "lol"
This video is amazing! I have like 400 hours played through the XIII saga and even so, had some doubts about it, so you helped me figuring it out. Next character could be Squal, from FFVIII.
Caio Oliveira
I put SO many hours into the series, replayed most of them several times, and I still learned a few things from this video. This is a good informative video.
I know I've said this before on the other Origins videos but I'm really loving these! Great work and can't wait to see more!

Final Fantasy Union I will!
Lightning is super cool, XIII was cool but the "lore" that was created afterwards was insanely ridiculous. XIII has the worst sequels in ths history of FF or just jrpg in general because the first one was so promising.
Lightning is bae,I fell in love with Lightning after I've played FFXIII..
Lightning Fantasy XIII
Same here. I am in love with the character. I have her as my lock screen on my phone. I think I'm obsessed. Haha.
same!i've her as my lock screen on my phone too xDD
I have her pic since I bought my phone in 2010 (I bought a new one today... but I'll put her pic on the lock screen again). She is amazing, awesome, so beautiful and I don't have words to describe
Celesz Adami indeed :3
The experience in 13 is incredible overall, throughout all the games
Wow, when you put it all together. Lightning had quite a character arc.
Thank you Darryl, this was one if my all time favorite FF series.
You're most welcome Mark! :) ~Darryl
I’m shocked they didn’t do a ps4 remaster of the trilogy in a collection. I would’ve bought it for sure
Me to. I would really love to play them on my PS4
as much has I love ff13 I dont think the fans want any more ff13 for now lol
Also one thing about FFXIII-2.
Before Lightning became Etro's Champion, Caius told Lightning to go home to New Bodhum but she refused.
That may be one of the reasons why Caius was so cocky with her in the FFXIII-2 opening. He seemed very impressed.
"I must thank you, in these final moments I have met my finest opponent."
Serini
Nice addition. Lightning is a true badass.
It's sad that even though ff13 has a great lore the games don't do lightning or the lore justice.
Soaringfalco
Agreed. Tho still love the games and Lightning.
Soaringfalco
Agreed.
I couldn't get into on the storyline but she is indeed well designed character.
13 Trilogy is extremely special to me. The past few years has seen it finally getting its flowers and it fills me with so much joy!
Oh my God! Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning Lightning!!!
I love her. Thank you so much for this. (:
Glad to be of service :D ~Darryl
You should play other FF games, Lightning is nothing special compared to other characters.
Krizie my second favorite female isn't even as special as lighting lol. And that's beatrix from 9
I'm not into emo characters. And I don't remember Lightning doing anything special for me to even remember her. All she can do is fight. Protecting her sister is sweet, but it gets boring as the story progresses. I prefer characters like Zidane who cares about everyone, even enemies, not only one person.
Krizie *rolls my eyes*
A lot of people like to hate on FFXIII but every characters story is emotional and well written
Kyle UKF yes in XIII, not the sequels
icessoup thats so not fucking true....noel and caius didnt have a story? Yuel
Thank you for doing this video. Side note, I cannot stand when people call Lightning a female Cloud. Other than the two of them being rather quite and perhaps appear “cold”, there really is not that many similarities.
Totally agree.
MelCholeric_Nocturne I thought I was the only one who believed that! It feels so good not to be alone in this matter. Lightning is so much more.
They are quite similar in some ways yes.
I just joke about her being a female Cloud as that's what I feel they were going for.
Pretty sure Square themselves released that in a promotional/character bio themselves for XIII-2. Not just random fluff people are spouting.
Except she is exactally that, the devs themselves designed her to be one and even confirmated that themselves
Great recap of one of the most amazing characters!
I'd love to see one about Ace, or Class Zero!

Very informative video. I had NO idea this girl had gotten that popular 😲
Great explore analysis Lore video on Lightning, you guys! Thank you!!!!
Those FFXIII haters can say what they want, Lightning is my personal favorite female Final Fantasy character!!! EVER!!!
I hope Square continues to use her forever! :)
The KING
Haha. I agree. I don't mind seeing her for years to come.
haters are having BULLSHIT thinking..
Extremely minor nitpick but Lightning isn't ENTIRELY three years older than Serah. Remember her 21st birthday was a few days before the game's events and Serah was already 18. Awesome video tho. Love this character to death!
i played every Final Fantasy but only Lightning could ever get me fanboying so hard
FF13 trilogy, FFXV, FF Type-0, FF VII, FF VIII are all my favorite FF games and this is in no order. Do a Squall Origins next.
I love Lightning and I love this video!
ME TOO. OMG.
Me too
Lightning is my favorite yay! Next please Squall Leonhart or Class Zero
The 13 series got a lot of hate but I loved it. It's by far my favorite final fantasy and lightning is my favorite character in any game. The story was so unique and dramatic. I cant count how many times ive played through her games. Loved em!
My most favorite Final Fantasy game
I need this game on the PSN Store. Doesn’t even need to be remastered, game was beautiful enough and played great. Just throw it on the PSN and Live Store so I can relive this great story.
ObliviousTouch
This, I kinda agree.
Vasilii Hellsing
Yes, it really went into detail that really knitting the story together nicely. Great video.
I named one of my twin daughters Claire after her and we call her Lightning... It's the only ff name the wife would let me pick... She named the other Bella off twilight 🤢
Claire is one of the most beautiful names imo, im sure she will become a wonderful lady, congrats.
Lightning is my number 1 favourite FF character of all time, I think she’s the most gorgeous FF character and also really cool.
The first game sucked!
I tried to play it, I have about 5-6 hours but I just can't get through it. It's confusing. And sorry, but Vanille and Hope are some of the most annoying characters ever. The story makes no sense so far and I feel like I shouldn't have to play 20h+ just to get where the story is going. I may try again later, but so far that's why I don't like it
the first ff13 is one of my all time favorite games. loved the story and plot more than anything
edit:^ the plot is supposed to not make sense in the beginning lmao and 6 hours into the game is still the tutorial.
Because it's a bad story told poorly. I liked the characters but the main plot is very mediocre as are the villains. From a gameplay perspective large chunks of the games are too linear, it's basically an on rails rpg. Even the game does open up there isn't anything interesting to do other than grind.
I loved this video, great work! please do Squall Leonhart next!
well i still hopefuly serah and lightning can be played together in another 13 somehow
I love lightning
smashing it, i was just watching the Cloud origins video you did.
"Lightning is a popular lady"
Could have fooled me, based on how many FF fans seem to despise her.
Thanx mate, truly enjoy all of your essays on the final fantasy series. Keep up the great work! Ciao.
Lightning is considered one of the most strongest protagonist in the series
Literally a Goddess of Death
Light is literally my favorite game character and omg thank you for reminding why!!!!
I wish 13 didn't get the hate it has. While I pretty much only enjoyed 13-1, I can appreciate the diverse world it was trying to build.
She was also depicted in verses xiii and the same artwork was also an Easter egg in kingsglaive.
hope she will be guest character in other games too.
Really loves the lightning series and I seriously hope they do more in the future with lightning 😁
I never had the pleasure to play the games but Lightning always drew me to her shes badass.
I got lost halfway through trying to understand the story. I'm glad FF13 has fans and more power to them 👍 but man 😐 nevertheless you did a great job with the video.
I liked the idea of 13 saga but they way they decided to present it wasn't the best. Could have been better I think.
Viorel Moldovan Calotă totally the sequels were poorly presented
@OW-Doublelift Hey, why don't you grow up and accept the fact that the words "I think" are indicative of someone's opinion, and that this person's opinion is that it could've been presented better.
Lightning was my favorite girl, long before XIII was even released. I first saw her only in concept arts and teaser images. She had a roughness to her that I kinda liked.
I would like to say I enjoy these origins videos. They give me insight on some games I couldn’t quite understand and gives me insensitive to check out other releases. I would like to see Cecil and other characters from the old games
I love lightning so much!!!
4:17 "Lightning was shocked."
Good video, helped me understand the most convoluted Final Fantasy game.
MrTomFung its not convoluted what's so ever
Lightning returns is the best game of the three. It's a shame so few people played it.
And I absolutely loathed lightning in the first game, so it took the whole arc (as you've covered here) to bring me around.
Lightning returns is one of the few games I go back to to replay over and over again. (along with 7, 8, X, and X-2)
I don't like Lightning but I must say, you do a decent job summarizing her story.
And yet people STILL say that Lighting is the most emotionless character in FF
SMMFH! Thank you for making this video
She was originally planned to be that way, and even less feminim, which we can see signs of in the first game. But she softened up some along the way.
Idiots thats why
She's the female version of Kaiba
@Rawr tho well written friend! I wholeheartedly agree. Lightning has a resting bitch face I’m sure most females can totally understand too. Lol I love heading her Internalized thoughts to see how much she grew as a person. She went from being a nobody to rivaling gods and whatnot. A lot of character growth with lightning isn’t just thrown into your face. Imo, it’s there but not everything Is all spelled out. I think that’s one of my favorite parts about the game. And even Lightning her self.
@@wizzrobotix2379 actually originally she was supposed to be alittle bit curvy and flirtatious.
I never played FFXIII 3 but that sounds like it was an interesting story.
What an amazing video
Thanks for your hard work 😍😍
An intelligent FF 13 discussion? You got a new subscriber. GREAT!
how predictable, a well made, well presented video from final fantasy union? honestly! jokes aside, loved this video! i guess i give lightning a little too much flack- she's alright, really ;P great job!
Thanks Lisa! :D
Yeah, seeing her story laid out like that makes you see her differently.
Lightning is just that fabulous. I adore lightning so much and I'm starting to look more to learn about Tifa. I'm also starting to like her. Or and Arieth.
Her character design is so beautiful. How can any man look at her high rez face model and not think gorgeous
I hope Lightning appears in Kingdom Hearts 4!
