When you're overjoyed to be able to switch to platinum daggers to boost your damage, you know you have a bad weapon selection. Yes, I just looked at the stats for the treaty blade in the vanilla FFXII, and it had an attack of 30 and 30 evasion. Both it and the Sword of Kings were buffed for Zodiac age.
When your options are rods or mid tier daggers, you take the mid tier dagger. And that's so weird that they buffed the treaty blade. I wonder why they did that.
@@Xephrost_Gaming maybe they wanted to make the treaty blade and sword of kings more lore accurate? Both of them have the power to cut and destroy stones capable of destroying nations
@@ZanSuken-pv1rn also in zodiac age i think is when they introduced the better ultimate weapons from the bazaar. i don't think treaty blade holds up as a best weapon for *that* long, does it? might be part of why considering all the competition with other weapons
The story weapons don't require licenses and can be used by all classes. It's also kinda funny that you can get multiple versions of them via trial mode. I tried a "povo run" challenge a few years back (minimum gil earnt, no gil spent) and so it was interesting to see that weaker story weapons such as the mythril blade were useful much longer than normal.
I completely forgot about the hidden merchant. Looking at the list of motes and I don't think any would have been super useful in this run. But always good to know. It may be very useful in other runs. And I fully did not know the different air ship routes had different items for sale.
I recently did a Solo Vaan challenge for FF12. It was actually a pretty fun going back to it and only needing to gear up one character. Vaan was White Mage/Time mage (I was inspired by your Time Mage only run). My real ace in the hole was that I didn't ban the usage of Summons. Summons can do a surprising amount of heavy lifting in that game if given the chance. However once I got to the end game my choices were either respec to different jobs or just go pick up the Seitengrat. I took the path of least resistance and watched that invisible bow knock out the end game for me.
I was thinking you weren't using the Sword of Kings because you wanted to use the White Mage unique weapons....... Only to find out it was because you didn't realize it and the Treat Blade got uber buffed in ZA.
Yeah, nope. This was just me being silly. I knew the stats were bad in the original and had assumed they weren't changed for the remaster. So, the joke was on me.
Hey! I've been doing a WM only run myself for the first time after watching your BM only video. It's pretty fun and I'm kinda close to beating the game. So will be interesting to watch your video
I did a solo Vann white mage once upon a time. Drain was my best friend and I was making pretty good use of summons. I remember summoning Ultima vs Zodiark. They were trading their special attacks for 20kish damage. A level 99 Ultima with bubble has way more than 20k hp and renew is a thing. That fight was over in like 20 seconds.
To make the Bomb King easier in future runs, if I may share the advice with everyone in the comments: There’s a chest in one of the first zones of the Salikawood that, with a Diamond Armlet equipped, gives you a Meteorite item you can use to inflict Disease, stopping his ability to use Renew altogether. The chest itself appears very often and it’s a quick zone in and out for it to respawn, but the actual percentage chance of getting said Meteorite is rather low. Still, it’s such a quick in and out that it’s at least worth a try to do, if nothing else 👍
Ohhhh. Interesting. I didn't even think about inflicting disease. That is very good to know. Because I'm sure the Bomb King is going to continue to be a pain in future runs of this game.
Let me guess for FFV... no offensive spells combine with shitty physical options which is a recipe for disaster... and the ONLY White Magic spell that deal damage Holy is behind a dungeon where one of his half punish you heavily for physical attack (which the White Mage don't have much) and the second half disable all your magics including magic items.... yeah doesn't sound very appealing, not mentionning you could theorically get stupid amount of Rods and break them.... in which case you are basically playing a Black Mage with the skin of a White Mage.
Yeah, I'll have a lot to say about FFV in the summary video next Friday. White mages also can't equip rods, so they can't use them as items in combat. Otherwise I definitely would have broken tons of rods.
For fork tower you'd have to get a reflect ring and stall out Omniscient's MP pool (roughly 15-16 hours). Once you are 100% sure he is out of mp you can just smack away at him with normal attacks. It is very doable but also very pointless. You can actually break rods on the other side of the tower but White Mage can't use them anyway.
I really had expected Holy to be a game-changer. But by the time I got it, my whole strategy revolved around a wildly buffed Basch. And of course, I forgot to pick up the gambits I'd need to deal with enemies with auto-reflect, so it just never mattered. FF12 definitely ended up having a very interesting progression curve for White mages.
this is a challenge run I've actually done myself in every ff game because if my profile picture doesn't make it obvious i like white mages, but you could have made the early game much easier for yourself by doing hunts to gain access to the drain spell which does decent damage and healing for white mages cause of their high magic at least until you get holy and the only enemies that are immune to it are undead which you can just use healing magic on to kill, other than that i hope you enjoyed the run.
So I said this last video but you CAN get Rods right away, in Nalbina. Also the Healing Rod uses the 'piercing' formula that guns use so the damage isn't as bad as it first seems, though of course you obviously don't want to be giving enemies Regen.... You can get a Golden Amulet in the Sandsea pretty near the beginning. Maybe you got that anyway and just wanted another? Also I figured you did hunts to be able to buy Ethers. Surprised you didn't use a Float Mote for Deadelus (but I see you used one and only had one for Hashmal). Also surprised you didn't grab Cleanse.
I always forget you can buy stuff in Nalbina. And yes, I wanted to get a third golden amulet so I could give one to every party member I was using. The hunts were definitely to unlock the decoy spell, I actually had a ton of hi-ethers from mote grinding. And I had fully never though to use float to negate Daedelus' tremor. I should remember that. Rage is more dangerous, but tremor is also very strong.
One funny thing about the summons you need to beat in boss fights in FFTA (who are also bosses here because it's the same setting) is that at least a couple of them are based on final bosses of other Final Fantasy games. The Viera summon Exodus is actually Exdeath, but as a less corrupted tree and the human summon Mateus is the Emperor from Final Fantasy 2 (who so far as I know, his full name is never given in-game). I don't know about Famfrit and Adrammelech aside from the latter's name being Biblical.
@@242sightingAdrammalech is in _FFT_ but Famfrit isn't. The only Espers | "Lucavi" that show up in _FFT_ are, in order, Queklain | Cuchulainn, Velius | Belias, Zalera, Adrammalech, Hashmal(um), and Ultima (and technically Zodiark too I guess) IIRC. In fact, the _FFT_ technically has completely different demons that never show up rather than the retconned Espers given the names on the save screen wheel include ones like Duma.
Fun fact: if you do an 'Enemy: Any- Dispel' gambit, the AI is smart enough to only cast it if there's something to dispel, so you don't actually NEED the Status = Reflect gambit if you put your dispel gambit above the 'cast holy' gambit
It might be wise to turn it off sometimes, as many enemies in the game have a chance to spawn with a buff and having that gambit turned on at all times might be a waste of MP

I know some people like RNG Manipulate getting Invisible Bow Seitengrat since get it as soon as Airships to places. So dont have try play lottery of getting it.
There are a couple reasons. 1 is that I don't actually know X-2 that well, I've only completed the game once. 2 is that dresspheres are pretty spread out throughout the game, so I'd need to decide if I progress normally or figure out a way to cheat them in early. And 3 is the garment grids and how I can or maybe can't use them. The passive bonus for equipping them is obviously fine, but I'd also need to make some decision around the bonuses you can get for gates, can I use them or not. And if so, how do I make that work with only one class. X-2 has a really interesting system going, but it's different enough that it invites different questions that I am undecided on.
Raise is so bad, even a Phoenix Down is more useful, can heal more and is faster to use A trick for recovering a wee bit of MP is to pick the character you want as the leader and run in circles, not super useful for short fights but can help a lot when you have to go long distances (or bosses take forever to go down)
This is not the release version... I think been so long since I've played. I wouldn't play the release version now days if I do play . Anyway thanks for the videos Duder.
How are these the easiest? I guess white mages are the best against bosses but the worst in normal battles. Anyway now that you've done all mages in 12 what's next? Melee classes or esper only?
Whether intentional or not, FF12 places a huge emphasis on being able to heal. Enemies can deal a lot of damage very quickly and coping with that is one of the big tests of how a party does. So, white mage excels in a big way, even if there damage is pretty bad (even after all the buffs). TBD on next FF12 video, but at some point I will be completing runs of the game using every class. I'm excited to find out which one struggles the most.
This was more pain than I was expecting from FFXII. But it all adds up. A microscopic slice of an otherwise good weapon list, spells and kit in weird pots around the world, Green Magic presumably(?) stealing some of the WM toolkit, and I don't know how impactful the combat licenses are but it would be better to have them. Now that I ponder it, FFXII White Mages might _feel_ the weakest in the series. Big heals are expensive and dying is fairly easy. Buffs are more necessary than impactful, so they feel less valuable. I dunno, just thinking out loud.
That could also be a part of it. Bubble does require a lot more hunts, so after getting decoy I may have just decided it wasn't worth it. I am guessing though because that's past me, and current me can only speculate.
white mage vs all hunts
I’d pay to see an all white mage yiazmat fight
