Yuna is one the best female characters in the FF saga. She always put others people's happiness and posses such inner strenght despite her introverted nature. She is amazing and love her development, gaining confidence, experience and maturity beyong her own years.

But I have to say, I think Square Enix should send a subversive message. How many times have we seen characters like Buffy: The Vampire Slayer save the world time and time again? But I’m not liking how Yuna is letting people gas her up into thinking just because she saved the day before that she can do it again... Her declaration that she beat Sin before and she’ll do it again. Should backfire... What we never see is a hero take a sobering look at themselves and acknowledge their limitations... People looking to you to save the day again just because you did before. Instead of looking to themselves to step up. Is a cowardly copout! Final Fantasy X was my gateway game to the series and both Yuna and Tidus has made such great and lasting memories on me throughout the years. I was a child when I played and finished this game and I can truly appreciate the game as an adult. Yuna helped me show what true strength is and Tidus taught me to cherish every moment you have with people. Love this game to the moon and stars!

Tidus really wanted it to be his story, but he was mostly Auron's way of changing Yuna's story, which in turn changed Spira's story. One of my favorite bits is when Yuna corrects him on his oft-repeated catchphrase: "This is OUR story."
@Milkyway2099 Lightning and Tidus were far from being nobodies in someone else's story, they played very important roles, even if others may have been more plot critical. Tidus especially was crucial to being why Yuna's story played out as it did. I don't think making the MC part of an ensemble whose members sometimes eclipse the MC's plot importance is necessarily a bad thing, personally. It's probably also worth mentioning how much criticism XV has taken for being as restricted to Noctis' POV as it is.
I picked the ending in X-2 without Tidus, because his story ended in X and returning diminished the sacrifice. Yuna lost much and X-2 is her making peace with that moving on to the future. That is my point of view at least

Yuna is a character that has given me the strength to get through life's changes. I will cherish Yuna and Titus for the profound effect that those characters have had on my own life.
"Made it to the end," but this could have been twice as long and I'd still be here for it. Yuna is a role model for me. It's that simple. I've never seen a video game character with such a mix of compassion, conviction, and resolve. (The closest thing I can think of in any medium is Mrs. Brisby, from the Don Bluth film "The Secret of NIMH". Any fans of Yuna should check that out, Mrs. Brisby is very much a proto-Yuna in a lot of ways) I have always seen Final Fantasy as Yuna's story first and foremost, with Tidus being more the playable viewpoint character than an actual main protagonist. Yes, we spend a good deal of time with Tidus before meeting Yuna, but for a lot of that time, most of those adventures are stuff happening TO him, rather than decisions he makes. He doesn't get any real agency in "his" story until the first trip to Bikanel Desert. Up to that point, and past that, every decision, every action the heroes take is tied to Yuna's journey. Even with Auron subtly being a driving force pushing her to avenge her father and himself on both Yunalesca and Sin, the decisions are still hers. Final Fantasy VII was my favortie video game of all time growing up, and well into adulthood. But today, more and more, I'm starting to realize that the game with more to say, a more powerful message, and far stronger characters, is FFX. That still feels a little sacrilegious to me, as the games far from perfect, but it's such a well-crafted main story that still resonates with me to this day...in fact, it's become more relevant than ever now. Part of it is my own circumstances. As I've come to realize I suffer from several mental illnesses, Yuna's strength of will has become that much more important to me. I wouldn't last a day in a place like FFX's Spira, with traumatic events happening on the regular, but Yuna lets all the pain she sees and endures galvanize her into action to end pain and suffering. It's inspirational, and aspirational, and I'd give anything for that kind of courage.
I'd say one of the particularly prime examples of her resolve is the scene where she denies Yunalesca and "false hope", not knowing what doing so would mean or bring, while knowing she HAD to because the grand summoning was wrong.
FFX was the first FF game I ever played and it has been so special and dear to me ever since. The story is so rich and a truly a journey of discovery. I think there has to be at least one character you can relate to in this game and personally for me, I connected with Auron the most ( He looks and acts just like my late grandfather who was everything to me) I have never cared if anyone said to me that this game is bad. I love it. And when it comes to Yuna, I didnt care about her when I first played the game many many years ago, but after playing the game like 10 times, I came to understand her as I got older. How complex she really is and how she develops during the game, mentally and physically. I don´t enjoy how they trashed the series after X-2 with that audio clip and the novel that should never be mentioned. The ending in X-2 was perfect to me.

Currently playing through X-2 having finally finished a platinum run for X and I truly do think the Yuna and Tidus dynamic is the best in the series. The way they learn from each other and grow together. Great video mate, always a good watch.
Ah yes, I remember when I once tried for the platinum years ago. Then once I got almost everything, I realized I forgot the destruction sphere in Beside like an asshole😂 and boy was I not about dealing with limit breaking to fight the dark aeon to get Anima. I am still not happy about that to this day😂 although not as mad as losing my save file for Dragons Dogma when I was on my like 50th new game+ to finish the trophies
Tidus and Yuna's love connection is still the best in the series! I tear up eveyrtime! I really love the ending of FFX! My eye's start to water up and I get those goosebumps every time I watch that ending! Tidus cared for Yuna so much, he was wiling to sacrifice his own existence, just to make Yuna happy and save! And as much as Yuna wanted to be with Tidus forever, she had to accept the fact that she will never see him again...ghg...its just so freaking heart warming! I just love this story! Yuna is such a lovable, sweet heart loving female protagonist! She puts herself before others and willing to do anything to make her people happy! Even if that means her own life! There are other great females in the Final Fantasy universe! but NONE OF THEM out beats Yuna! At least to me. Yuna...YOU'RE STILL THE BEST!

I can hardly wait for Final Fantasy VII 2 when Tifa gets pissed off at Cloud for going on a date with Yuffie and they break up over it, only for Cloud to die in a freak chocobo racing accident at the Gold Saucer (eye roll). I will accept Last Mission begrudgingly because it's an actual game with a story tying to FF X and X-2 and Eternal Calm is actually a good piece of video that tells the events that kick off X-2, but I refuse that garbage audio drama!
Yuna is my favourite FF character of all time, She is so sweet, kind and yet so strong. Yuna and Tidus became a memorable love story that was beyond any other game I have experienced. FFX means so much to me and I cant express the thanks for this amazing insightful video on the characters.
Other than Lara Croft of the Tomb Raider series, I didn't really care about other female characters with an exception here & there. What sold me on Yuna is how she stood up to Lady Yunalesca in Zanarkand.
Yuna is the best character of the franchise, I made it to the end due to I love this Franchise it has guided my life, the choices that were made in each installment show that it is difficult but not impossible. Yuna provide this more times over. even when she had no control over it. I miss playing this installment, i had over 4 copies and beat it 3 times. with a combined total play of over 1500 hours.
Yuna was definitely one of my favorite characters and protagonists for the series. I dunno why, but her level of self sacrifice actually makes me angry. So, when I heard Tidus have an epiphany about Yuna's decisions and his decision to follow her yet again... I think I understood why her self sacrifice makes me so angry. ...Just like how X had a very meaningful, yet appropriately bittersweet ending.... I just feel like Tidus and Yuna's story won't have a happy ending.

Wow I really enjoyed this. It talks about all the things you think about when you're playing the game especially when things aren't mentioned in the game, but you know them to be true, like Yuna and Rikku being cousins. it's cool because I always like to go back and find things out, like when I went back and found out that O'waka's sister was a summoner who didn't make it and that's why he wanted to help Yuna.

Also, thank you for the feel's train with the ending scene of the FFX, I didn't need that in my life again but it's here and I'm a sobbing mess again.
Yuna is one of my favorites from the series, from her pulchritude, her heterochromia, to her selfless decision to want to stop Sin and the indominable strength to face her adversary. I admired that what began to wanting to bring peace to Spira, changed to bringing an end to a corrupt tradition and eradicating Sin thanks to Tidus and Auron helping Yuna during the journey. Many of the obstacles the group encountered, including Seymour trying to manipulate Yuna for his personal gain, were daunting but shaped Yuna to the strong woman she is now. I wish there was more discussion of Yuna's family in X-2, Braska and her mother. Since Yuna adored her parents, I would have enjoyed seeing her quest to see them also as she did to seek out Tidus.
I really enjoyed this video for the most part (and I'll explain why I didn't like part of it). This was very detailed and informative and it put her story into a slightly different perspective. Then I got to 39:46 and everything after was COMPLETELY new information for me. I'm kind of heartbroken that Yuna and Tidus grew apart and broke up. I've always loved them as a couple so I'm shocked that the writers went this way. Now I NEED an FFX-3 so they can FIX THIS!! Sure, I'm a little overdramatic but I don't care.

Yuna is honestly my fave female character of all time. FfX was the first one I played and tbh Yuna is such a I suppose role model to me. Her willingness to sacrifice herself for others above all else kind of reminded me a lot of myself as a child. I honestly put it down to this character and how this game approaches such a complex topic as religion that I eventually found the path I follow now. Also as someone who suffers with mental illness (depression and anxiety but possible bipolar) her strength is so inspiring to me. Great job as anyways final fantasy union.

People say that only real people can be your 'idols' on whom you look up too, but honestly? I have to say Yuna shaped who I am today. I wanted to be like her in how kind and selfless she was, but also be true to myself, and while it didn't really work, I still love her a lot. She will always be in my top ten favorite female characters from any show or game or movie of all time.

What we need is a prequel with Lord Braska's pilgrimage, where we play as Jecht, Auron, and Braska in the events leading up to defeating Sin before Yuna. Now that would be awesome. They could call it Final Fantasy X-0.

Yuna is, hands down, one of the best if not the best character Square has ever put out. I can't think of another character who so literally is willing to sacrifice their own life to save the world. I remember how impactful that scene was in Home the first time I saw it where you learned that about Yuna and how much more respect I gained for her (not that I didn't already appreciate her character before that) once I learned this. Add to that when you replay the game how willing she is to let Tidus remain ignorant of what her sacrifice means so that he can stay happy. She's kind, and driven, and strong in a way they haven't made a character in a long, long time, with the closest character to this being Terra who was willing to defeat Kefka knowing that it might end her life as well.

I don't think there is a video about Vaan Ratsbane, I feel like a story about him would be nice, to learn his origins could be rather rewarding, or maybe even Fran's, both characters are from FFXII for those whom don't know, which is my personal favorite in the franchise.
It's quite likely that Seymor's plan would have failed since according to Yunaleseca unless the bond between the final aeon and summoner is strong it wouldn't work. It would have been pretty cool if during the remake you were allowed to have an alternate reality where one of Yuna's guardians actually became a final summon.

Final Fantasy X was my first FF game, and still remains my favorite of the franchise. Yuna was my favorite character, and remains probably one of my favorite video game characters, influencing how I see female protagonists to this day. The fact that it was her story, told through the eyes of a foreign onlooker, was fascinating and I think made everything more powerful. The reveal of her fate and both Tidus and the player realizing at the same time how strong she actually is to press on in the face of something like that, was more impactful for it. Obviously characters who are accustomed to the world and its rules would know how strong she is for this journey, but Tidus as an outsider - and by proxy the player - does not. And while not the focus of this video, I thought I'd add my two cents to the infamous "I love you" vs. "Thank you" debate, since I've collected a lot of thoughts and feelings about this game, and I feel like it says a lot about both characters. So, rant incoming for those who wish to read further... As I said before, the entire game, Tidus never 'got' Yuna's role, fully. Even when he realized she was going to die, I don't think he fully understood what that meant to her and this world - since he wasn't from it, he couldn't. So every time he would say something you wouldn't hear anyone else saying to her, she would just smile and say "thank you," which would in turn confuse him. Those "thank you"s, to me, were her expressing her sincere gratitude that someone was thinking so much about her happiness and future outside of the reality of what she would be doing, even if it was out of ignorance. Conversely, I don't think this game was ever meant to be a true love story. Yes, there was the romantic aspect, but it had more of a "It would be nice, but..." feel, to me. Yuna even responded to his "Not just until the end - we'll always be together" line with another "Thank you," in the original Japanese version, after she realized falling in love in her position would be selfish. So I believe it was more about Tidus growing by being part of something - and people - bigger than himself, when he'd only ever focused on his little world of being better than his dad. He then found out that his father, whom he hated, had undergone the same growth and ultimately made a self-sacrificing choice for it. Yuna learned more about herself and her true desires, and what those meant beyond just being ready to die, from his questioning the things he wasn't born into and wishing a real future for her. It gave her the strength to risk everything, overthrowing Yevon's warped leadership, when it would have been easier to stick to the predictable cycle and just deal with people suffering between Calms, like they did. So those points being said, I believe the original "Thank you" holds much more weight. She's saying it to cover so many levels, as well as giving us some beautiful thematic mirroring. And from Tidus' expression, I always got the impression that it all finally 'clicked' for him in that moment, why she'd always told him "Thank you" like she did. And on that note... "Thank you" if you read this massive text wall! Hope you have a great day or night!
Hi, this is a great comment, and I think your take on Tidus and Yuna's relationship is reflective of its depth. Regarding Tidus, I agree that he didn't fully understand the true scope of Spira's plight and Yuna's pilgrimage, because he had lived a large part of his young life in an entirely different world. Even after he learns of Yuna's impending death, his first instinct is to "apologize" to her instead of "save" her, which comes only after their moment together in the Macalania Woods scene. Tidus' scope was very intimate and centred intensely around the few people he cared about; his family, Yuna and himself, but he was also very human and a genuinely good person within that individualistic worldview of his, especially in how he cared for individual people before title, status, duties or race.

Yuna is the only final fantasy character ever that since the beggining of the game was willing to give her life for everyone to bring peace (even if just for a short period of time). And even after being betrayed by her faith, her will was not shaken and was willing to give her life even if everyone hated her for betraying yevons teachings.
At 22:39 you mention that Seymore was now an unsent. However, he was already unsent before Macalania and the confrontation with Yuna. If you go through the Anima questline, you see that he was a child summoner and he was killed when he defeated Sin, using his mother as his final summon, Anima.
“Stay away from the Summoner!” Still cracks me up. It would have been perfect if Tidus said “Make me!” Like he did later to Seymour.

I don´t enjoy how they trashed the series after X-2 with that audio clip and the novel that should never be mentioned. The ending in X-2 was perfect to me.

Currently playing through X-2 having finally finished a platinum run for X and I truly do think the Yuna and Tidus dynamic is the best in the series. The way they learn from each other and grow together. Great video mate, always a good watch.

Ah yes, I remember when I once tried for the platinum years ago. Then once I got almost everything, I realized I forgot the destruction sphere in Beside like an asshole😂 and boy was I not about dealing with limit breaking to fight the dark aeon to get Anima. I am still not happy about that to this day😂 although not as mad as losing my save file for Dragons Dogma when I was on my like 50th new game+ to finish the trophies
Tidus and Yuna's love connection is still the best in the series! I tear up eveyrtime! I really love the ending of FFX! My eye's start to water up and I get those goosebumps every time I watch that ending! Tidus cared for Yuna so much, he was wiling to sacrifice his own existence, just to make Yuna happy and save! And as much as Yuna wanted to be with Tidus forever, she had to accept the fact that she will never see him again...ghg...its just so freaking heart warming! I just love this story! Yuna is such a lovable, sweet heart loving female protagonist! She puts herself before others and willing to do anything to make her people happy! Even if that means her own life! There are other great females in the Final Fantasy universe! but NONE OF THEM out beats Yuna! At least to me. Yuna...YOU'RE STILL THE BEST!

39:48 This is where the story turns into bad fan fiction. I can hardly wait for Final Fantasy VII 2 when Tifa gets pissed off at Cloud for going on a date with Yuffie and they break up over it, only for Cloud to die in a freak chocobo racing accident at the Gold Saucer (eye roll). I will accept Last Mission begrudgingly because it's an actual game with a story tying to FF X and X-2 and Eternal Calm is actually a good piece of video that tells the events that kick off X-2, but I refuse that garbage audio drama!

Yuna is my favourite FF character of all time, She is so sweet, kind and yet so strong. Yuna and Tidus became a memorable love story that was beyond any other game I have experienced. FFX means so much to me and I cant express the thanks for this amazing insightful video on the characters.

Other than Lara Croft of the Tomb Raider series, I didn't really care about other female characters with an exception here & there. What sold me on Yuna is how she stood up to Lady Yunalesca in Zanarkand.
Yuna is the best character of the franchise, I made it to the end due to I love this Franchise it has guided my life, the choices that were made in each installment show that it is difficult but not impossible. Yuna provide this more times over. even when she had no control over it.
I miss playing this installment, i had over 4 copies and beat it 3 times. with a combined total play of over 1500 hours.

Wow I really enjoyed this. It talks about all the things you think about when you're playing the game especially when things aren't mentioned in the game, but you know them to be true, like Yuna and Rikku being cousins. it's cool because I always like to go back and find things out, like when I went back and found out that O'waka's sister was a summoner who didn't make it and that's why he wanted to help Yuna.
Thank you, sooooo much for doing a Yuna Origins. I've been patiently waiting for this ever since you did the Tidus Origins video, and now I'm about to binge both of them. Also, thank you for the feel's train with the ending scene of the FFX, I didn't need that in my life again but it's here and I'm a sobbing mess again.
Yuna is one of my favorites from the series, from her pulchritude, her heterochromia, to her selfless decision to want to stop Sin and the indominable strength to face her adversary. I admired that what began to wanting to bring peace to Spira, changed to bringing an end to a corrupt tradition and eradicating Sin thanks to Tidus and Auron helping Yuna during the journey. Many of the obstacles the group encountered, including Seymour trying to manipulate Yuna for his personal gain, were daunting but shaped Yuna to the strong woman she is now.
I wish there was more discussion of Yuna's family in X-2, Braska and her mother. Since Yuna adored her parents, I would have enjoyed seeing her quest to see them also as she did to seek out Tidus.
10/16/2019 02:56am...I was just done watching this 48 minutes video. I am truly grateful and astounded by the complexity of her in this game.
I really enjoyed this video for the most part (and I'll explain why I didn't like part of it). This was very detailed and informative and it put her story into a slightly different perspective. Then I got to 39:46 and everything after was COMPLETELY new information for me. I'm kind of heartbroken that Yuna and Tidus grew apart and broke up. I've always loved them as a couple so I'm shocked that the writers went this way. Now I NEED an FFX-3 so they can FIX THIS!! Sure, I'm a little overdramatic but I don't care.

Yuna is honestly my fave female character of all time. FfX was the first one I played and tbh Yuna is such a I suppose role model to me. Her willingness to sacrifice herself for others above all else kind of reminded me a lot of myself as a child. I honestly put it down to this character and how this game approaches such a complex topic as religion that I eventually found the path I follow now. Also as someone who suffers with mental illness (depression and anxiety but possible bipolar) her strength is so inspiring to me. Great job as anyways final fantasy union.

People say that only real people can be your 'idols' on whom you look up too, but honestly? I have to say Yuna shaped who I am today. I wanted to be like her in how kind and selfless she was, but also be true to myself, and while it didn't really work, I still love her a lot. Yuna is, hands down, one of the best if not the best character Square has ever put out. I can't think of another character who so literally is willing to sacrifice their own life to save the world. I remember how impactful that scene was in Home the first time I saw it where you learned that about Yuna and how much more respect I gained for her (not that I didn't already appreciate her character before that) once I learned this. Add to that when you replay the game how willing she is to let Tidus remain ignorant of what her sacrifice means so that he can stay happy.
She's kind, and driven, and strong in a way they haven't made a character in a long, long time, with the closest character to this being Terra who was willing to defeat Kefka knowing that it might end her life as well.
Bro I'm going to replay this game with a whole new perspective. With Yuna as the MC.

I've always had such a love for Yuna since I first played the game when I was 15. I'm 30 now and I still love her.
It's quite likely that Seymor's plan would have failed since according to Yunaleseca unless the bond between the final aeon and summoner is strong it wouldn't work. It would have been pretty cool if during the remake you were allowed to have an alternate reality where one of Yuna's guardians actually became a final summon.

Final Fantasy X was my first FF game, and still remains my favorite of the franchise. Yuna was my favorite character, and remains probably one of my favorite video game characters, influencing how I see female protagonists to this day. The fact that it was her story, told through the eyes of a foreign onlooker, was fascinating and I think made everything more powerful. The reveal of her fate and both Tidus and the player realizing at the same time how strong she actually is to press on in the face of something like that, was more impactful for it. Obviously characters who are accustomed to the world and its rules would know how strong she is for this journey, but Tidus as an outsider - and by proxy the player - does not.
And while not the focus of this video, I thought I'd add my two cents to the infamous "I love you" vs. "Thank you" debate, since I've collected a lot of thoughts and feelings about this game, and I feel like it says a lot about both characters. So, rant incoming for those who wish to read further...
As I said before, the entire game, Tidus never 'got' Yuna's role, fully. Even when he realized she was going to die, I don't think he fully understood what that meant to her and this world - since he wasn't from it, he couldn't. So every time he would say something you wouldn't hear anyone else saying to her, she would just smile and say "thank you," which would in turn confuse him. Those "thank you"s, to me, were her expressing her sincere gratitude that someone was thinking so much about her happiness and future outside of the reality of what she would be doing, even if it was out of ignorance.
Conversely, I don't think this game was ever meant to be a true love story. Yes, there was the romantic aspect, but it had more of a "It would be nice, but..." feel, to me. Yuna even responded to his "Not just until the end - we'll always be together" line with another "Thank you," in the original Japanese version, after she realized falling in love in her position would be selfish. So I believe it was more about Tidus growing by being part of something - and people - bigger than himself, when he'd only ever focused on his little world of being better than his dad. He then found out that his father, whom he hated, had undergone the same growth and ultimately made a self-sacrificing choice for it.
Yuna learned more about herself and her true desires, and what those meant beyond just being ready to die, from his questioning the things he wasn't born into and wishing a real future for her. It gave her the strength to risk everything, overthrowing Yevon's warped leadership, when it would have been easier to stick to the predictable cycle and just deal with people suffering between Calms, like they did.
So those points being said, I believe the original "Thank you" holds much more weight. She's saying it to cover so many levels, as well as giving us some beautiful thematic mirroring. And from Tidus' expression, I always got the impression that it all finally 'clicked' for him in that moment, why she'd always told him "Thank you" like she did.
And on that note... "Thank you" if you read this massive text wall! Hope you have a great day or night!
Hi, this is a great comment, and I think your take on Tidus and Yuna's relationship is reflective of its depth.
Regarding Tidus, I agree that he didn't fully understand the true scope of Spira's plight and Yuna's pilgrimage, because he had lived a large part of his young life in an entirely different world. Even after he learns of Yuna's impending death, his first instinct is to "apologize" to her instead of "save" her, which comes only after their moment together in the Macalania Woods scene. Tidus' scope was very intimate and centred intensely around the few people he cared about; his family, Yuna and himself, but he was also very human and a genuinely good person within that individualistic worldview of his, especially in how he cared for individual people before title, status, duties or race.
@@neon_blue Thank you, glad someone was able to get something out of my little novel, haha. Yes, Tidus was especially interesting in that he didn't hold the same prejudices of Spira people, so we could see how he was a good person inside despite how he seemed selfish in ways at times.

And even after being betrayed by her faith, her will was not shaken and was willing to give her life even if everyone hated her for betraying yevons teachings.

At 22:39 you mention that Seymore was now an unsent. However, he was already unsent before Macalania and the confrontation with Yuna. If you go through the Anima questline, you see that he was a child summoner and he was killed when he defeated Sin, using his mother as his final summon, Anima.
