    The older I get, and I don't know how much older I will get, the more I appreciate Keltner. I grew up idolizing Bruford, Collins, Peart, Rich... all those tech drummers, but there's so much to be said for a guy who can just play the right thing for the song - like Jim Keltner, Mick Fleetwood and Ringo. He's a master, for sure. I spent all my time trying to learn to be technically proficient, and should have spent more time looking to find the pocket.

      As a teenager my best bud was so into Yes, ELP, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep... I was like, dude! Learn some Mott, BadCo, Aerosmith
      , etc. That was too easy, he said.
      We could have been stars in our hood. I was just singing and learning some piano and guitar.

    I love guys like Jim Keltner , something very honest about him. And his playing may sound smple easy , but most importantly he's grooves just perfect and his drum sound blows me away... Hes like the perfect "song" drummer right next to Ringo...

    He's been my favorite drummer for many years. Unpretentious, serves the song, and is even moved to tear by music. You can't beat (sorry) that.

    So he was the drummer on "Josie"? That is one of my all-time favorite tracks. Everything on that track is perfect. The drums sound is spectacular.

    I've recently bought a Steely Dan Asia CD and have been totally blown away by how good the song Josie is on that Cd.....I play it over and over and it just blows me away especially Jim Keltner's touch on that song. Its a phenomenal recording by everyone playing and I always loved the song and anything SD did but this new CD sounds so good I cannot stop playing it.....Total euphoria just listening to that song !!!

    GUITAR CENTER....ARE YOU LISTENING. THIS is why you should have people who can properly tune drums. Jim found the snare off the shelf ready to play and it's on an amazing recording. Tune your drums so they will sell.

    I had a chance to meet him last year and I got to tell him we have the same birthday. He said “Oh? I’m not that old”, we laughed and I said “Of course not, Mr. Keltner.” We took a picture after. He’s such a hilarious and down to earth guy.

    One of the greatest drummers of all time. Watch him with Neil Young, Friends and Family at Red Rocks. Phenomenal. Also the Traveling Wilburys documentary playing the refrigerator!!

    • @Surge_LaChance
      @Surge_LaChance 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've been looking for more info on his technique, especially in regards to that Red Rocks performance.
      Does he always pull his sticks back that far? Or is it just to slow himself down to Young's tempo?
      He "stalls" his sticks almost pointing backwards.
      Really cool-looking, but difficult to emulate!

    • @wash711
