    fyi the Gaming OC card in the charts is a different card than the sample tested for my original review, that's why some data is different.

      It's nice to consider the hot spot. But there's something else. The results in an open test bench will vary maybe not so slightly from the results in a case with good airflow. For example, I recently bought a Phanteks P300A and I have set 2 140s at the front, another at the top, I left the 120 it came with at the back. I'd love to see the temps the card can get in this case.
      And I'd also like to see a comparison of the ray tracing support to see what's the real difference with a 3080 for example.

      @@the-patient-987 I had this card for 5 days and sent it back. In case and with plenty of airflow. Hotspot / junction temp was 100-105 degrees on normal play and benchmark. Just the slightest overclock it hit 110 and throttled down again. Now I have asus 6900 xt tuf - normal xtx and not the xtxh version. But here I have junction temp at 78-81 with normal play. Overclock no matter what I hit 84 degrees. Now that is a huge difference. Regarding RT - who cares ? No one use this anyway and if so its with dlss and fsr. This thing eats my games ! 👍😎😜

    What I noticed day 1 in MSI Afterburner is that my core clock speed was set to 2574 mhz, while the advertised core clock speed is 2425 mhz. Downclocking to 2425 has fixed the hotspot temperature issue for me (would go up to 105c before, now rarely gets to 90).

    • @Akaya3511
      @Akaya3511 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should not have to downclock to keep your temps lower. For example i have Sapphire SE+ 6900xt. I am overclocked to 2600 mhz on average. My Memory is maxed out as well. I have lowered the voltage to 1050mv. I get around 70-75c when gaming. My hot spot temp is around 90. I pull 330W of power as well. It may be worth you taking the cooler off. Clean it and redo the thermal paste.

The overall temp is pretty good but the junction temp is just crazily high, especially when oc-ed, and it may be a result of MSI's questionable cooling design! I will try to watercool or sthg just to test the limit of the chip!

    I've had two of these VGAs already, they both were sent back to RMA.
    The first Gaming Z graphics card of mine had 55c degrees delta between GPU and hotspot, fans like a jet engine.
    The second one had 35c degrees delta, but the GPU was exceptionally good piece of silicon (at least to me) 2600MHz@1.050V stable, the card died on me in 10 days.
    Now I'm wainting on my third and last try, if the GPU and hotspot delta temp more than 30c then I will say goodbye forever to MSI Gaming card

    • @get-in-2-get-out774
      @get-in-2-get-out774 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Im a owner myself,
      Stress testing (303W), stock 1.2v setting - Im getting 61°C Core / 90°C hotspot IIRC, cause Im using it with 900~906mv (around 2.1Ghz+) at the momment.
      As far as my testing goes, 1.2v is just too much, being with stock thermal paste and all that.
      the good part is that at 1.15 or lower it works much better (even if it's still around 300W).
      Good luck with your new sample !

    • @Devid8181
      @Devid8181 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@get-in-2-get-out774 My 3rd "try" has arrived and it is installed in my PC already.
      The cooler is pretty much the same as the previous one was with a little worse binned GPU.
      If I stress test it with FireStrike Extreme then the GPU temp reaches 65c and the hotspot 105c at factory OC speed (1.200v@2586MHz) In games the hotspot peaks at 95c at stock freq/voltage
      When I saw this first I was to blow up to be honest...just another terrible heatsink mount + terrible paste maybe?!
      However If I undervolt it then it becomes more likely acceptable, as of right now it is stable at 2600MHz@1.100V (MorePowerTool) and the hotspot temp drop is significant.
      With stress test it the hotspot is still around 100c though, but in games I have never seen the hotspot peak more than 86c at 20c room temp.
      As of right now the temp delta is about 23-24c in games with undervolted GPU.
      I'll give it a go and not return it, but it would be nice the re-paste it with liquid metal, I just don't want to void warranty.

    • @Devid8181
      @Devid8181 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Gijs Impossible, unless you have replaced the thermal paste to liquid metal.
      But that's a different story.

    i had the same problem with my 6600xt red devil from power color. i had to clean the factory thermal paste and put new one. I had to use a whetstone on the copper plating of the heat sink because it has a lot of high spots. After, i had to calibrate the screws to get the same torq on all of them to maximise the contact. Now i have like 10-13 C difference between my temp and hot spot temp and my gpu runs over 15 C better. Ex: i ran lost ark at 1440p ultra high and i was getting 75C C temp. now it runs a 60 C with about 72C hotspot

    The difference between hot spot and core temp is too high, in my experience with ADM GPUs, this usually happens when the mounting pressure is uneven. Would be nice if you could put more pressure in the screws and try to fix it. I have the 6800 from MSI with the same cooler, hot spot is normal in my case.

    You guys should contact MSI and tell them about the heat issue since you guys have a business contact with them. They should probably be able to fix that heat issue with better paste or pad application prior to selling so that people don't get heat issues after buying one.

    this card is not as badly overpiced as some other cards. It's ultimate card anyway and most users won't touch it so paying extra might not turn around potential buyers. Some cards are over 100% of their original msrp and in normal climate this card would be around 1100+ euro so 1750 is only up to 59% over what it should be

    Hi Nada 🥰👋 great review. Nice looking GPU! Obviously this XH series gpus are some of the reason Nvidia is releasing the RTX3090Ti 🤔. Despite the great GPU core temps etc, the massive hotspot 🔥 temp disparity sounds almost like a mounting issue (also mentioned below) …. Sometimes a simple thermal pad change or O-ring mounting point add-on can solve these issues 😉👍. If you’re permitted by MSI, this might be worth looking at doing. Thanks again for the great work and coverage you do there Nada/Techtesters. Much appreciated 🎉🥳. Great to see more regular uploads again. Hope your unpacking with your new home has come to an end and you’re all enjoying the benefits 😇👍

    • @kognak6640

      It's not mounting issue. Contact area has small gaps between heat pipes(guru3D has pictures), there shouldn't be any when cooling bare silicon. It's just shoddy quality which is not surprising from company making nvidia cards. Sapphire and Powercolor are only manufacturers depending on AMD card sales. Main reason why their premium cards are always best ones. Other manufacturers, I'd never buy one blindly even if last generation was good one.
      Also, you can't even use liquid metal on this MSI card, direct contact copper heat pipes are hold together with aluminium block which almost touches the chip. Liquid metal will seep between heat pipe and block, corroding is inevitable.

      Yes but you dont see this high junction temp on xfx 319 lmtd black edition. Same gpu ! Also same problem on the X version with normal 6900 xt. Kitguru recommends not to buy. They know they made a design error. When they made the 6700 xt that launched much later they now use the cooling plate like everyone else !

    I wonder if the reason for the very few MSI radeon cards has to do with what was heard some months ago about them pushing for positive reviews and when the reviewers declined they demanded to have the GPU returned with the reviewer paying for shipping etc. Partly why I stopped having any interest in MSI products.

      @@sajithsaji3606 my card is running fantastic, but at first I thought there was an issue. I was playing games like Squad and Hell Let Loose at 1080p and only getting 60-70 frames. I finally found out that those games were launching in Directx11 but when I put them in Directx12 then it was finally pulling the wattage it should be and I was getting 165 frames. I play Cyberpunk on 1080p ultra and am getting 165 fps as well. Not locked mind you, some times it dips to the 120’s on cyberpunk but that is a beast of a game. Also at 1080p it is more CPU bound.

Despite the great GPU core temps etc, the massive hotspot temp disparity sounds almost like a mounting issue (also mentioned below) …. Sometimes a simple thermal pad change or O-ring mounting point add-on can solve these issues . If you’re permitted by MSI, this might be worth looking at doing. Thanks again for the great work and coverage you do there Nada/Techtesters. Much appreciated . Great to see more regular uploads again.
