Hardly. RT and better yet, Path Tracing is a big deal. Not just for games, but also for productivity work that includes real time rendering. Consider this, a rtx 3060 will match or surpass a 7900xtx in Blender renders. It goes to show you were the 7900xtx sits in some of these work loads.
RT/PT won't matter for the guy who plays competitive shooters, but for the best visual experience now and going forward, it definitely carries some weight, especially when ray reconstruction and rtx remix are taken into account.

nice ground level re-review of this model, I had the RX 570 4GB until january 2023 when it stopped working then I bough a RX 40608GB in july 2023 at $280 thinking it was enough for 2023 games but it wasn't, I got the AMD reference RX 7900XTX in January 10 2024 and the performance is amazing, the gpu is undervolted @1025mv 2400-2600 core and +2000 memory with no coil whine, so I am expecting to use this card for at least 3 to 4 years with the r7 7800x3d, asrock b650, 64GB@6000 cl32.

?? You get significantly better frames in 4k then xtx. How can you not tell? The benchmarks don't lie. Not saying it's a bad card but it doesn't compare to a 4090.

    • @alkine3011
      @alkine3011 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@YoungWise2011 When you set your game to get only 120 or 140 frames which whatever type of monitor or TV you have the overhead doesn't matter.
Say at 1440P or 4k they are both giving me 240 frames in my FPS game for my 240Hz monitor it doesn't matter that the 4090 gets 330 frames compared to 300 frames for the XTX as they both are locked at 240.
Now for single player games when using high settings and RT/PT naturally there's a difference but not even my 4090 can give me 240 in them games but it does get me closer than the 7900 xtx.
I don't leave my cards (unlocked) to get frames that aren't seen no reason for my XTX to be pushing 580 watts for 400 frames when I get my 240 while using 275 watts.
And I am still scared to push my 4090 max watts with the cords and stuff melting so I keep it locked for that season so it doesn't go over 350 watts most.

Yes brother this card is problematic with certain driver revisions and games. New games need new driver support but AMD breaks something everytime they fix something. New drivers have optimizations that you might want but have to ignore because the new driver may crash your previous games if you exceed 60fps or don’t use vsync or something arbitrary and annoying that shouldn’t be happening with default graphics settings and GPU settings. This commenter took the correct action and I only leave my reply so others don’t feel gas lighted by nvidia or AMD fan boys. They do not help either side only stupid arguments.

    • @Vandelgard
      @Vandelgard 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

If you had an nvidia gpu before you should clean install windows. Otherwise if you had an amd a proper DDU will suffice(check videos on how to do it). Also check the power connectors if they are plugged in tightly from both sides (psu and gpu). An 850 watt psu is the minimal recommended but it depends on the rest of the system's power draw. A 1000 watt psu is more than enough.

I bought a XTX and it was my worst gpu-purchase ever. Not because of the card, it is really fine, but because for the games I play on a 100mhz 1440p ultrawide it is bit of overkill. The game I play most, ACC, only uses about 60% of its capabilities with all the bells and whistles on and always gives me a steady (capped) 97 FPS.. So, I could have saved a lot of money to buy many bratwürste. My idea on ray tracing is that even the best cards of today will not be able to play ray tracing games of the near future easily; for that you will probably need future cards that are substantially better at it, making buying a good RT-card now not a great investment.
The XTX does well btw with ray tracing on, but I only have two games that support it (Jedi Survivor and Last of Us, think the latter has it), and I'm not impressed with it and would rather have more FPS. Still, since my monitor is just 100mhz I have it switched on because it makes no difference, the card produces near 100 fps anyway.
An exception is the ray tracing stuff used in Cyberpunk, but that game is a showcase for certain specifically Nvidia technologies, explaining why AMD does so poorly in it.
No regrets buying it, too expensive for sure, but it is a nice feeling to have a card that, for now, does everything well in a relaxed way. I also had no driver issues at all.

Great video, as always thanks. I feel like there's still a ton of gamers out there who don't care for the value adds, they just want max fps for a given budget. That Tuf card is pretty nice as well, those temps are phenomenal. When RT was still new back in the day, playing Control, I was super psyched. But honestly I've come around to liking games that are much more moderate and sensible with RT, like Metro Exodus, Avatar, etc, where it's built in from the ground up, super optimized and not completely insane; and for these games, the Radeon and Intel cards do very well, the huge gap doesn't exist the way it does in something like Cyberpunk or Alan Wake 2.

Cyberpunk was made with specific Nvidia code just like what happened with tesselation in crisis 2. The RT could have been about the same on amd if the code wasnt biased to Nvidia. Comparing brand with cyberpunk is pointless. Even in 10 years time it will still run better on Nvidia.

I had massive issues with the early drivers for my 7900XT. FFXIV as an example would just crash every single time I tried to run it until the 23.7.1 drivers so for the first 6 months it was unusable for me and I switched back to the 3060 I had. After that release of I have had no real issues, some stuttering in some games due to the drivers but the normal fixes usually worked (DDU or rolling back to the last stable non-stuttery driver). Just as an aside I have had to do the same thing to fix stuttering in games with nvidia drivers as well so all the problems ive had with AMD drivers are not unique to a specific vendor.
I will always stand by my stance of the 7900 cards having come out 6-9 months too early. The idle power draw wasn't fixed for 9 months after the card came out and the drivers were super unstable for me for 6-7 months after I got my card. That just keeps feeding the meme of AMD drivers suck and we could all benefit if AMD didn't give people ammunition in that way.

One thing about current gpu's is what happened to blowing hot air out of the case? Now it just dumps it inside towards the motherboard and the case door. If there isn't much clearance on the top of the GPU because the case door is blocking air flow you have a real problem. Not to mention you better have some good front to back air flow in the case to keep everything cool. And hopefully you have your m.2 nvme drives covered with a heat sink or it will burn them up since they sit right under this thing.

I've had one since launch. I also have an RX6700Xt in what is now my son's system. The RX6700XT is problem free but lots of driver problems with the RX7900XTX. Day to day lots of small issues and problems with driver updates. Yes, I've done the safe mode, DDU dance, and even a clean windows install. RDNA3 is very problematic for someone who seriously uses their PC (content creation and CAD work) and even just general windows functionality.
It's the worst upgrade I've ever made and I regret it so much. Next year I will be going back to team green for my main system regardless of price/performance.

I upgraded early last year; at the time, 7900xtx was under £900. The 4070 12GP was, I think, around £800, and the 4080 was well north of £1200 in the UK. not a good time to get a GPU I end up getting myself a 7900XTX sapphire pulse; the extra X cost me a £100 at the time. Funny what you remember. As for raytracing the 7900XTX, its ray tracing performance is equal to 3090 more or less, and I have not sold on ray tracing for me the over all experance is better with turn off.
CPU 5800X3D, RAM 16GB X2 3600, Display 3440×1440 air cooler case, and CPU
Now, 7900XTX is well worth it. There has been no issue at all with temperature, hot spots, or power use, and AMD software has done its job. I have not had a single issue at all, and I would recommend any AMD card with over 16GB of VRAM, as I think this is what you need as games are getting more and more VRAM hungry and take memory bus and bandwidth into account, both of which can be bottlenecks.
Now 50% of the new games coming out are going to use Unreal Engine 5. So look at benchmarks for Unreal Engine 5 gaming before making the call for a new GPU you're getting yourself.

Bought this exact same model 1 year ago to replace my 3080 (lacking VRAM at 10GB playing uw 1440p, shame on NVidia!)
Really happy with it, didn't had issues except the high "desktop consumption" for a few months, and very very few drivers crashes
My main gripe is that the cooling on the chip isn't really well done, sure average temp rarely reaches 70C but at 65C+ the hotspot tends to be +30C hotter at 95C+... Bad contact I suppose. This means fans have to work hard, so I dumped the VBIOS "Quiet" mode
Then the RT isn't great, in Cyberpunk I have roughly same RT perf than I had with the 3080 (but in raster it's +40%!), and PT is unplayable. But this is only an issue with a few very RT heavy games
But overall performance is stellar, even if it come at a cost of 420W+ power consumption at max PL +15% !
To nitpick a bit on specs, yes the 7900XTX mem speed is a bit slower than on a 4080S, but the bus size is 384 bit to 256, so texture rate is faster at 950GTex/sec to 800 on a 4080, this may explain why the 7900XTX is a bit faster than the 4080 in rasterization in some games

It’s an amazing card I have the gigabyte model the reason why I got it was because I didn’t care about ray tracing. Changed from a 3080 and the performance uplift was crazy. No good company? All companies try to maximize profit, but some are downright scummy about it. Some are not. AMD makes so much tech open source. That's pretty good.
Nvidia has some pretty bad practices despite making a good product.
Apple intentionally makes their tech hard to repair & tries to keep parts from getting to 3rd party repair shops. Very scummy & horrible for the environment.

Course they would. In fact both AMD and Nvidia admitted to restricting supply in order to keep prices high. They also pulled the same stunt Nvidia did by pushing a lower tier card as one tier higher. Nvidia eventually reversed course on this, but AMD didn't.
Furthermore, both CEOs are members of the same blood related family. Bad optics right there. AMD is no saint, they just have a smaller market share in certain markets and don't have the luxury to act like a market leader.

40+ W is stupidly HIGH & meaningless... and while the previous 6700 XT consumes only 16W, the new 7700 XT doubles that power draw with a whooping 33W on "video playback"
AMD should solve that power issue @ video playback at least in the next 8000 series. 🤔
    - That's why I'm NOT UpGrading, I'll stay with RX 6700XT (RDNA 2) until the next Gen.

The Cyberpunk RT results seem Wrong, I have a XFX 7900XTX and im getting around 80FPS at Psycho RT with FSR quality and around 45fps with FSR off same RT in Cyberpunk ..and similar results with Linux..

    • @quintrapnell3605

RT degrades more than raster does when you use FSR. In my opinion it’s better looking in cyberpunk to just run native and turn RT off. In this game and in games before RT devs had to lighting work by “hand”. It looks better than RT with reduced light bounce’s because the pixels are missing and FSR artifacts are added. Just my opinion though. AMD ray tracing is just inferior software and hardware side.

This is because nvidia has better ray tracing and a better upscaler. I can’t point this out enough. Even if AMD had DLSS and the same frame rate as the nvidia GPU the way AMD does light bounce is inferior. When you combine this with FSR and the performance loss you really learn to stop using RT or you enjoy eating shit.

$900+ on a gpu with questionable performance in many DX11 titles, questionable performance/stability in newly released games, driver issues, subpar features like FSR and FSR3 FG, mediocre RayTracing, and lackluster content creation applications makes buying a high-end Radeon GPU very difficult. I think buying a 7900xtx in a few months when they inevitably hit $500-$600 is a much better decision. I think low-end/mid range AMD gpus present good value but AMD GPUs don't really offer a proper high-end experience worthy of $900+.

The reason consoles don't have the same issue (for the most part) it's a static set of hardware and software.
