- Colder nights = kakanin with coffee. ☕️ Suman is one of the most recognizable rice cakes in the country because of its delicious simplicity that’s delicately wrapped in banana leaves. 🍃 You can cook this using a variety of sticky rice and add your chosen toppings like fruits, chocolates, or latik! 🤤 We like it served as it is and dipped in muscovado sugar. What’s your favorite suman flavor? 💖
SUMAN
Ingredients:
2 cups glutinous rice, soaked in water for 2 hours
½ tsp salt
2 cups coconut milk
1 cup sugar
1 bundle pandan leaves
Procedure:
1. In a pot, bring the ingredients to a boil, covered. Cook over low heat for 8-10 minutes or until dried out.
2. Wrap 2 tbsp of rice in banana leaves and steam for 10 minutes. Serve with muscovado. Makes 4 servings.

In Bicol we have also a kakanin that is typical and really good! It is called Binutong. Almost similar to this one but it is cooked with coconut milk and wrapped in banana leaves. I usually add a bit of sugar and its the best! I miss eating them!
