    Super nice variant of the FG knot with a Rizutto lockdown. Maybe also do a “half hitch” on the tail, close to the knot before burning. That will certainly secure that the braid do not splice up in to the Rizutto knot. Awesome good take, big thanks for new easyer ways to great knots😃👌

    I use 20 lb power pro braid and it’s so smooth that it cause a problem for me when tying the FG… it’s very difficult to lock it and also the single strand braid is hard for me to manage. I have often thought to double the line and in searching how to do that I found your video. I plan to try this and thanks for the great tutorial.

      I use 15lb PP & 12lb floro. I agree. It's a little tricky but I've never had one fail myself. All four tied prior to spring walleye season are still on and doing well after a lot of trips out. I suggest tying them at home at your dining room table or somewhere with controlled conditions.

    • @307Smallmouth
      @307Smallmouth หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use .6 or 14lb YGK X8 and it is very slick. I have found that when I tie this knot I have to tighten the mainline braid first. If I pull on the mainline braid and tag end to cinch the knot, it will slip every time. Sometimes I have to tie it 2-3 times to get it to bite, but once it does, the knot is solid and goes through the small guides really well.

    Sometimes people don’t realize how VERY important it is to finish the knot off after cinching the main knot and I do it the exact same way. Sometimes that braid tag end will fray and keep coming apart deep into the knot until it fails. Plus the knots you finish with give the main knot a slight taper that helps when the knot passes through the line guide and rod eyes on the cast.

    • @oilrigfishing

    • @oilrigfishing
      @oilrigfishing 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I also don't let my bead or weight go through the knot 😉 and I'll typically tie my bead and weight above the leader, and on my main so that there's never any resistance when the fish is pulling drag. Most people will use 2 beads one to protect the hook knot and the other to protect the Alberto sg or whatever they are using but I wanted to reduce that

    I guess this is good for certain types of fishing and depends on what your targeting. I do a lot of inshore for tog, summer flounder, striped bass, stuff like that. My double uni for 10lb or 15lb braid to 15lb - 30lb fluro has let me down rarely. I just think this is overkill if your trying to hurry up and tie another leader on while the bite is good. IMO

      For lighter leader like 30lb it might be overkill, but when your using heavy leader the small diameter of the knot makes it so much more easier to cast through your guides, which makes it worth it to spend the extra minute to tie a knot like this or an FG IMO

      Try a series of half hitches above the cut end of the monofilament. Then finish with the finishing knot from this video (Rizzoli?). Sometimes I will stack several finishing knots in sequence. This beefs up the the front end that gets bashed on it's way through the guides. And if one fails, cut excess and melt braid at top of next knot.

    The next big innovation in line will be the elimination of knots between braid and fluorocarbon and use of a bonding agent and/or a small micro sleeve each line end can feed into and be sealed with heat or epoxy to bond the two lines together. People hate tying knots and a good engineer will put an end to the cumbersome knots. I am working on some innovations now to solve this problem..

    Seems that by doubling the braid you accomplish the similar task as the FG wraps. Have you thought about cutting the leader before the finishing half hitches ti bury the small tag? Seems the little tag left over could get caught in the guide. Good explanation video. Should take about a minute to tie with practice.

    • @koogle612
      @koogle612 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you will notice the tag of the fluoro leader mushroomed you will see its on the back side of the knot (when casting) so it should have no affect on a clean smooth exit. Ive buried the tag myself with alternating 1/2 hitches then the 5-10 whipping wraps & a dot of glue just on the rizutto portion but that is actually bulkier than the way shown. I suppose a solution could be cutting a taper in the fluoro then half hitching up to its end & then the rizutto but then you lose that insurance of the mushroom tip for when the line gets maxed out. Be worth a try just to answer the question though.

    Nice fg variation. But I can tie an fg in under 60 seconds. FYI, 100 % is as strong as any knot goes.....soooo....you may want to change the gaslighting title. But good clear instructional vid.

      We'll call it. THE SC KNOT or SO CLOSE knot. Smh. FG never let me down and i can tie it on the spot in around 2mins or less

    DANG. NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I WRAP THE DOUBLED BRAID AROUND THE LEADER I CANT GET THE BRAID PULLED TIGHT ENOUGH AROUND THE LEADER AND WHEN I PULL MODERATELY HARD THE MONO PULLS OUT OF THE BRAID.

    It’s pretty, but just tie the damn crazy Alberto knot, super quick and easy and never had one fail. Most knots don’t fail, just have better results when tested with weights and stretch systems to test knot strength. No fish will break any of the good ones, your drag will pull before a knot breaks, leader will break before the knot.

      Sometimes I wish the knot would be the point of failure, it would've saved me a little braid on a few occasions

      @@justind9235 I know. I use leaders a lot against popular opinion. I don’t like stretch even when there are baits that really need it. I just tie my knot and go. They are very small too and goes through the eyes without noticing it. I guess I don’t follow all the rules of thumb. I just prefer braid. That knot is cool just seems like a lot of steps, same with fg knot
