I fish hard on some species like monster reefies that will just dust if you're not on your game from spooling up correctly to your terminal tackle. One set-up is 80lb braid to 100lb leader dual speed overhead saltiga with full noise at 50lb of drag. The absolute solution for never having knot failure is not easy and takes time. The correctly tied and most importantly correctly finished fg is the most practical option. The best main line to leader always starts with a good double, sorry to upset the lazy fishos but the plat or bimini twist is the starting point then tie an albright ( bulky ) or your FG . Different knots actually suit different people, tie what your confident with remembering that the next cast, drop or troll could be your PB. If anyone wants to learn there best knot then buy a scale that records the highest weight and then tie all your knots plus learn some more, use 2lb line for this and you will very quickly weed out the popular knots. I've been using the albright for well over 20 years now, can tie it with my eyes closed in any conditions with absolute confidence in my knot I want to learn the FG knot, and I've found so many different ways to tie it, and then I came across this SC knot Now I am tossing up between the two of them.... To me the SC knots just looks like it's tied properly when finished, whereas a lot of the FG knots I've seen tied in videos look rough the way the braid has gaps when it is clinched around the leader Am I reading too much into the appearance of these knots versus their overall function and strength Would appreciate your thoughts Cheers Matt
Depending on use agreed . However, there are way too many variations of the FG knot from breaks as low as 44%to a high of 85%. Personally I need every time test simply because I use very light line , i will try this sc against my pr knot.
As with FG knot, leader line must be larger (the larger the better) than the main line/braid for it to work. For equal line sizes or even leader that is smaller than main line, I prefer the Crazy Alberto.

There are simple versions. After you tied them, do 3 knots over two braided lines with fluoro and glue it. He overcomplicated it with tying with excess braid, cuz braid doesnt hold on knot
That’s the key-I got discouraged from the uni to uni know years ago when I first attempted a braid main line with a mono/fluoro leader when pull testing it in my garage…. Basically, hooked it up to a piece of shelving and pulled-the knot broke failed with less pressure than I was expecting. Then tried the FG knot a couple years ago and I was breaking the leader before the knot. So that’s the only knot I trust connecting leaders.

@BJ Head It's probably just me not being good at tying the FG, but I've had the mono slip out a couple of times. I am going to try it again but tye a knot in the end of the mono so that it can't slide through.
Not great with light braid and mono. Knot won't tighten and the lighter mono slips straight out. (15lb braid to 8lb mono). Fg struggles to bite in too. Find I have to use alternative knots like the double uni, blood or albright knots.
if your braid is too thick for the leader it bites down hard on the leader and snaps in. I dont know what your on about, if your fishing light leader just fish 0.4 or 0.6 pe or just get better at tying knots lmao
He was going to use “Stairway to Heaven” as the background music, but the song would have ended before he was done tying that knot….on the positive side, it does look like it would go through the guides well. I would just need to rewatch the video 3 times before each time I tied it.

Watch the video from salt strong on tying the FG. He puts the rod in the rod holder and wraps the main line around his pinky. That way he can control the tension of the main line and have both hands to tie it with

I like an FG but I see folks tie them with no tension? I’ve tried that way thinking it be easier right? I have slung some good lures over the horizon trying an FG with no tension! I do have an easy way to do a FG that I tie them while in my yak, and no issues but it has tension incorporated. Gonna try this SC looks a lot less time intensive. Cheers man,
Northern fishermen that fish for smallmouth use it 8 or 10 lb test braids with as little as 6 lb test monofilament or fluorocarbon leader using the fg knot these guys are professional tournament anglers who's earnings depend on making the best choice. Alberto is about 50-60%depending on whos tieing it The strongest braid fgKnot tied with light braid requires the braid be doubled , usually gains 10-15%more knot strength. About 85%
I don't know WHAT THE HELL I AM DOING WRONG but I am following the method EXACTLY, even comparing it to other videos, and I CANNOT get this farkin thing to cinch down. My leader just slides right through no matter what I try
I've tried this knot about 5-6 times and the flouro slips right through when I go to tighten it or the shit gets all kinked up and fails. FG has never failed me so I give up on this guy. It looks a littler thicker than an FG as well but I could be wrong.

Interesting knot to try. I lile how the tag end of the leader line points to the back not to the front. Should help reduce foul casts.

That first knot is a game changer for those using an FG knot. The second knot is just a rizzuto that you normally use with an FG to finish.

As FG knot believers, it’s hard to convert to another knot, i was looking for strong and smooth knot through guide for second option casting.

I use the FG knot tying 6lb florocarbon leader onto 10lb braided and it works just fine

If order the seguar braid leader combo you get 10/6 15/8 40/15 and so on

I have no problem with this knot on lighter line ie. 12lb braid to 8lb fluro but on heavier line it slips and won't bind down. Any advice?

All the videos I see for the FG and SC knots use leader material heavier than I ever use. Can you do this knot with 20 lb braid to 8 lb mono?
sc knots can only be used for big leaders.

I love this knot, but when I do it with a very thick leader (0.5 or 0.7) it doesn’t slide well enough. Maybe I I am doing something wrong.
