That’s a surgeons knot. That’s what I use to tie leader line. I’m surprised it’s not more popular. It’s super super easy and in my experience it’s very strong
You’re awesome buddy!! I’m glad you are showin people how to tie but come on get back to catchin those big ole flatties!! Woooowooooo!!! Love those videos !!👍🏼👍🏼god bless
I used to always use this knot for fly fishing. You can build a leader in about 2 minutes flat. Then attach your fly with a double davy knot. So fast, and dang strong too. Plus the double davy knot is perfect for flies.
hi there, robert here from Sydney Australia. May I offer a constructive criticism. I had a hard time seeing the braid and leader against the blue background. For practical purpose may I suggest using twine or string so that we can clearly see how the knot is tied. At my age of 71 I'm all for simple knots. Thanking you, Robert
I totally agree with you. I will have a video soon on how to tie my teaser rig and will show this knot again using twine! Thanks for your comment brother!
That is a triple surgeon`s knot with an extra turn. I have been using the triple surgeon`s knot for tying my braid to fluorocarbon for several years, without any problems. Thanks for the video.
With all surgeon knots, try six overhand knots instead of four. I've done well over a hundred surgeon knot tests and the 6TurnSurgeon is an over 100% knot, meaning that in a digital force gauge tensile test the weakest line will break outside the knot and at a higher test break than the line's listed breaking strength (this is because all lines are conservatively rated).
@@bayoubanditcharters Yer most welcome, sir. Now to dig a bit deeper into my personal surgeon knot testing, it was all done with mono-2-mono lines. When it comes to braid main lines and mono leaders, it's very hard to beat the over 100% FG knot for CT reels (non-level wind) or spinners - no bulky surgeon knot needed. For CS reels (level-wind) where I've got 'em spooled with mono and need to tie on a mono shock leader, I use a hybrid line build that will use small diameter knots (the FG) to ease thru the level wind guide and rod guides. This kind of completed line uses a braid joiner with FG knots to marry a mono main line to a mono leader. The resulting FG knots on a hybrid line sail right on thru all guides like a hot knife thru that cake o' butter mama just churned :) I do this mostly for 17 or 18 pound mono to 50 pound mono leaders. The braid joiner I use starts out at a few feet and becomes less than a foot when the FG knots are completed. I use 25 to 65 pound X8 quality braid. I usually also coat the knots and line with either activated CYA glue or that Loon UV Knot Sense glue. Ahyhoo, give it a go with yer CS level wind reels! I use mono main lines of 17, 18, and 25 pound Sufix Siege or Sakuma mono that's 6XS (6 turn surgeon) knotted to 50, 80, or 100 pound Sufix Superior, Sakuma, Trilene, or Gardner mono. I'm a surf fisherman, mostly for NOAA shark tagging, using CT type revolver reels that will hold 300 to 400 yards of mono. Here's a 6XS surgeon line build and tensile test I recently videoed - th-cam.com/video/LQm_TtJYpOE/w-d-xo.html Tight lines and landed fish to ya!
Lol! I’ll have another video out soon tying my teaser rig for flounder and I will tie this knot again with better lighting and bigger line. Thanks for your comment brother!
Surgeon knot with extra turns. I use when I need to tie up fast but this is not as friendly going though the rod tip. Good quick knot though and I agree, - it is strong
I started using this knot (3turns) for tying fly fishing leaders in England, I now live in Australia and use it for my lure fishing with 5 turns. Very strong and as the fluro tag is pointing “backwards” it goes easily through the guides. I’d like to see a strength test compared to the FG knot.
At 75 years old, I almost quit using brain because I couldn’t tie the knots. But I can tie this night. We used to call it a surgeons not thanks for the tip.
believe it is a surgeons knot. I was taught how to tie it at a fly and tackle shop in New Mexico. Have used it for years and don't think it ever has failed at the knot. Only disadvantage is that you cannot tie with the leader material still on the spool. You have to cut the line.
.... This is a Surgeons knot with 2 extra wraps ... works good for 2 lines of same diameter ... but will slip if leader is smaller diameter ... a Double Uni is best for building or attaching leaders ...
Love that knot. And the mod Albright and the modified Alberto, and the Uni, and double Uni. I’ve got serious arthritis. And had a mild stroke. I find the FG, GT and complicated knots a royal PITA. IMHO, the F in ‘FG’ name, stands for something that should not be said in decent company. I’ve fished since I was 4 years old (1955) and I can tie those acronym knots. But why should I? If I’m offshore and fishing for big tuna, marlin, Goliath, then maybe I’ll take the time to use those knots. But when we have such great knots like the surgeons, Albright, modified Albright, double uni, Alberto and others, i don’t wast my time on those AC KNOTS. (AC-Acronym) puzzle knots.
I’ll never tie anything else for inshore fishing. To be so quick and simple, I’m amazed at how strong it is and how effortlessly it goes there the rod guides.
I’ve passed you on the causeway headed west , I’m headed east the last couple of weeks in the afternoon. ( can’t miss that big blue boat). Were you putting in on those days? Thanks for the great content by the way
Question about Suzuki motor gauges. My port gauge is throwing a “Check gauge C.” message. Have you encountered this? Motor starts and runs but shows no engine functions. Gauge shows engine is neutral even if in gear.
Yes, the video did not show the braided line that well. I plan on showing another knot on my channel soon and I will use larger line and include this knot again in the video as well. Sorry about that, it looked good in my editing software but not in the actual video.
Id rather use a regular knot and hope it holds over any these knots, all you ppl make it sound like hey guys and girls so easy right, if i find a easy way to make a fluro to braid id let you know
@@bayoubanditcharters so I went yesterday to buy boat yesterday. I did buy it and in the contract they added they would fix the issues. The jig knot was developed by Rapala to give their lures more side to side action and has always been known as the Rapala knot.
Hey Bandit, I'm super intrigued by the knot. Can you cast that knot thru guides?
Absolutely! I have micro guides on my custom flounder rod and it works great!

Why snip your tag ends so short?
So it doesn’t drag on the rod guides, less friction equals a longer cast! This knot doesn’t slip, so no need to have them long
