    To everyone who is interested in this car, GO TEST DRIVE IT! It may not have VTEC but man is it fun. It’s a very well built car and it feels awesome. Also, the sound does not come through in this video. It sounds great in person. The shifter is one of the best on the market! It’s a great value. For EPS, the steering is very good. I don’t think all this bashing on the car is ok. If you read Car and Driver’s in-depth review, they were very pleased with it. For the price, it’s an amazing car. If you price a GTI to a comparable level, it’ll be much more expensive and it still isn’t as fun to drive. I appreciate Sofyan offering a balanced review, but the engine isn’t as bad as everyone says it is! I really enjoyed driving it!

    I had 4 SI, models,build em all,,, have the new one for a few months , its the best one they ever made stock, power and trq, is better, and handles better then any previous models hands down, why people complain is because they dont know the facts , this car has variable cam timming control, with a turbo thats all you needs, get over vtec, its a old design from the late 80s, lol,, for the money this is car is great all around , all i did was hondadata tune and the car make 250 hp and trq, more trq then the 2.4 k could ever dream, every year you yall say the old gen is better,, lol, pull your heads out of your asses, please, honda sets you up cheap so you can tune it the way you want, and with this one all you have to do is a clutch and tune and turn up the boosts and the car will run 13s, and still be around 26 grand, and avg 31 in normal mode,, what the hell else do you people want !!?? vtec?? please ,

      Joe Monaco you do know you're comparing a new technology motor with turbo to the 9th k24 engine lol if you put that same turbo on the 9th gen si
      It would probably make more power than the 1.5L those 9th gen si you speak of has the engine as a type r but with a bit more displacement it's the same ivtec engine boosted .. that's all it is

    • @joemonaco3558
      @joemonaco3558 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      The K 24 does not have a full vtec head dude. Nor is anything close to the type r moter. It only has vtec on one cam and the cylinder head is shit. 174 lbs of trq is really sorry
      The 2. 4 block is nice but needs the other head to make HP without a turbo. And when it comes to power to weight ratio the 2.4 is not a good choice . Thats why the R and Si use 2.0 and 1.5 . And handle much better. I like the 9th gen owned and built one.. The 10gen is better out of the box and easier to make power and handles way better .. thats all im really saying

    • @Smooveee
      @Smooveee 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Joe Monaco the type r engine has the same vtec system as the 9th gen read up on it my friend same crappy head flow , that's why they boost it and I agree with the weight of the k24 but we nonetheless a great engine best two Honda engines are the 8th/9th gens simply parts can be interchangeable and get you power read on it not tryna bash anyone or any car

      Acc0rd79 the 2.0T accord with MINIMAL mods is easy to reach upwards and over 400 horse , intake , upgraded turbo , intercooler , tune to up the psi on the turbos and downpipe with full exhaust !!! But yes to be 100% honest I would consider getting a accord type r .... I could only imagine what they would do because if their competitor is the focus st and rs then why didn’t the 10th gen si come with a 2.0t they could have de tuned the si just like the st and keep the front wheel drive and I def could’ve seen a bigger engine for the rs and maybe all wheeel drive as well on the type r but I know Honda is good on gas and their just getting into power ..... from the factory lol don’t get me wrong working on building a k24 swap Rn hatch but there’s always options out there don’t forget that!

    Thx for your feedback. You are definitely one of my favorite critics. I have had my Si since 12/2017. My ONLY potential gripe is straightline power. This car is not a drag racer, but consider I have personally witnessed over 40 mpg, but mostly I get around 34 mpg no matter how I drive. Pit this car against an 88 Gt Mustang and this car will win. This tiny 1.5T is a mighty little engine. I will be upgrading my clutch and exhaust soon to take more advantage of what is there.

    I have been a Toyota guy for the last 20 years, and the 2018 Civic Si is the first Honda I have ever owned, so this not coming from a "Honda Fan Boy". I really put in a lot of research on this car, and out of the almost hundreds of reviews on this car, this review was way, way off from all the other reviewers. Sure, there were complaints about the Infotainment system, lack of volume button, and the faux vents on the front and back, but almost no complaints about power, acceleration etc. I have owned this car one month now, and 0 to 60 in 6.4 seconds is pretty awesome for a car with such a small engine! I have done two trips between the Northern California Bay area and SoCal, and if anyone has ever driven on hwy 152 and the Grapevine on hwy 5, you know that if you can do 90 mph plus on those steep inclines with little effort...with temps around 104 degrees F, you have a car with good power. I'm not saying it's the fastest car on the road, but it easily keeps up with cars with engines twice its size and power. I mean, you made it sound like this car has to strain to go fast...that's not my experience owning this car. Maybe you should stop trying to compare it with those brainless Dodge Chargers that can barely handle a slight curve
    OK, so what I dislike about this car:
    Infotainment center
    Lack of buttons for radio, volume and AC/heater fan controls
    Android Auto disconnects randomly
    Metal shifter ball (gets hot, and I mean hot on a hot day)
    Shifter makes a notchy sound when shifting into second gear

    The engine is "bad", a "disappointment"? Compared to what? How can you evaluate the engine compared to a theorhetic engine you *wished* they'd developed and included. Is the engine better than competing Focus ST? Fiesta ST? Golf or GTI? Elantra? Those would be valid comparisons and against those, the sound and performance of this new Honda motor is at or above the best of the rest. Clearly you had a "dream" for an Si and because Honda didn't build *your* dream car, you downgrade it. Just evalulate the car they built, not the car you wish for (which doesn't actually exist).

    • @Fatmouse25
      @Fatmouse25 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      For a company with slogan "The Power of Dreams" I'd say the dream was shattered. I actually got invited to the Si launch and my heart was elated until the slide with 1.5 liter powertrain hit, and it was then my hands couldn't even catch how fast my heart sank, crushed. What sound? I saw two of those drag race at my local track and they sounded like hybrids against the rest. Its like they made a great civic, a great car, but forgot about the Si and just slapped the badge on.

      Juan Cristales I think it's because of the price difference. The Si in Canada is based on the Touring trim, here in the states it's based on the EX-T trim. Touring trim Civics here cost close to $30 grand. It would've made the Si close to as expensive as the Type-R here. Honda wanted to hit a price point so we don't get the nice stuff in the US.

    Wow! I could not disagree more with your analysis of the new SI. The old version was very much a niche vehicle and the 2017 forward is better in virtually every arena. At handles much better, has much more usable Midrange torque, is more comfortable, more spacious, gets better gas mileage and is much more refined and poised. If you're 16 years old and want a little naturally aspirated go-kart that only performs marginally well when you're gunning it, that's fine. I don't. The new SI handles better than most near luxury sports sedans costing twice as much and I have owned BMWs. Just my two cents. Thanks for the video!

    I understand there is a mourning period for the death of high reving, low torque Honda engines of yore but can we just end it now please and get on with life. As a life long Honda fan boy I look forward to more small displacement turbo engines with torque. Honda is going in the right direction. You get great performance and 40mpg. Nothing to complain about except a too quiet exhaust. Also, people like to justify the Civic Sport as somehow a detuned Si. It is not. The often overlooked bits the Si offers for only a little more money is a great value. Better internals (pistons, rings, sodium filled valves) larger turbo, LSD, adjustable dampers, Type R suspension bits, nicer seats, better shifting transmission, larger stabilizer bars, lower suspension, bigger brakes......as far as 9th gen Civic Si, I owned a 2015. This chassis is light years ahead of the of the 9th gen platform. This alone is enough to abandon the 9th gen for a 10th. As great as the K24 is, the new 1.5T is progress.

    The engine is a disappointment? I’m sorry but consumers looking to spend 24k on a Civic just aren’t looking for the noise of the k24 anymore. This car is meant for people who want a daily but also want to have fun once in a while and enthusiasts are going to go for the Type R anyway. The 10th gen produces the same amount of power without having to get all the way to 7500 rpm to do it and with 1L less displacement for fuel efficiency. Every Honda competitor is switching their lineup to I4 turbo engines to get power and fuel efficiency and Honda is just going with the times. If you want a k24, buy a 9th gen. If you want a modern car with modern features and a modern engine, buy the 10th gen.

They only decided to go turbo to satisfy you multitasking environmentalist nerds that demands effiecient every godman second. They changed the proven design/setup then call it "innovative" lol. The problem with Honda is peer pressure (sheep syndrome). Theyre just copying everyone because "everyone is doing it". The power of dreams is dead (just like the consumer's brains).

I raced my new stock 2010 GTI with my 2009 Civic SI and the Civic annihilated the GTI, I miss that Civic. At $23,000 The 2017 Honda Civic Si doesn’t take “Sport Injected” to mean “fun injected” like they did with VTEC in the 5th-9th gen; Si now means more performance with Turbocharged Engine Torque ala Volkswagon Jetta GLi.

    Good review man. I test drove a new SI. I own an 8th gen SI sedan. I wasn't impressed by how the new one drove. It felt pretty similar to the 8th at lower speed. I'm not in any rush to trade in for the new one. The engine is a let down for sure. It's dull. I'm glad Honda added more sound deadening to the car but the motor is isolated from the driver when compared to the K series motors.

    The funny thing is that if you really want to hear this particular L15 engine howl, you can do so in a used Fit, which has next to no sound deadening a non-turbo, dumbed-down version of the motor. Also I like how the upcoming Accord takes the type r's motor and detunes it (and it's still available in a 6mt!!!). IMO the SI should've done the same. Would have loved to see a good old K20 with a turbo, even if they detuned it further to something like 225 hp. I just really like the characteristics of the K engine over the L. I'm even tempted by the base Civic LX with a manual, just so I could get a new civic with a K-series motor. Sorry for the word-vomit comment :P

    For the money the Si is really hard to beat. And if they give deals because of slow sales, it'll even be more of a bargain. Vtec is old, not economical and the midrange is whats widely used more so than the topend anyway. Definitely quicker than my 9th gen but lacking in sound which gives you somewhat false sense of speed (slow.) I just wish it was available in hatchback. The sport hatchback looks more sportier than the Si, odd.

    The problem is that the best strengths of the 2017 Si are strengths of the 10th gen Civic, not the Si. The Si is the worst trim of the best Civic yet. Best interior. Best chassis. Best refinement. .....but no HondaSensing, less features than Touring trim, cheap cloth fabric interior trims. The "Sport" button with adaptive dampers are just a gimmick as 90% of owners would just end up using Sport mode all the time. I could live without VTEC if there was more raw power to enjoy, but they just got lazy and said "we added more torque, that's all you complained about". VTEC was what made the meager 200hp more exciting than it was on paper. All they did was take the great 10th gen Civic and applied a basic checklist from the previous Si instead of actually pushing the bar.
    And wanting to not steal light from the TypeR is stupid. The WRX is the best example of having strong, non-neutered examples of both would do nothing but build excitement for the brand. Sigh Honda........

    I think honda is going in the right direction. Its making 205hp @ 191ltq and thats what many people have been craving for. I drove one myself and yes it does feel dead at top end, but taking it to the canyon roads, i can see why they made a switch. The car feels lighter with 191tq between 2-4K rpm. Going uphill feels alot stronger and coming down hill is a breeze with the new adaptive dampers. I think its an overall improvement considering the price is still in the 24-25k range. We all know by now that hondata offers a great and cheap way to make the car go fast. Hondata+e85 tune and this baby should be in the 220+whp easily. Thats enough to have fun anywhere you go without taking the reliability away.

      If Honda lightened the base car and breath some fire into the 2.0L engine, it would completely satisfy the diehard who are grumbling about the Turbo power. Too much isn't a bad thing, but I'd rather not mortgage my house in order to get into a Type-R.

      That was kind of my point for mentioning it. Seemed contradictory to the mission to ask that question about the Si. I couldn't agree more. I also believe since the Type R is now in the US, that they should have made a dct with proper launch mode at least an option. I think the Si could even in it's current form be a sub 6 sec. 0-60 car with the right dct.

      I have a Civic LX 6 speed manual and it has the 2.0l Earth Dreams Vtech motor. It sounds so nice and sometimes is peppy but still so under powered but it gets good MPGs. Has like 158hp and 138 torque.

    This video proves that sometimes you need to just see for yourself. I love my 2020 Si coupe and that’s coming from a K20 RSX.

    Did Honda Kill The 2017 Civic Si?
    I don't know because you didn't answer the question to the title of your own video.

      Maybe so, but I'm not a car reviewer or expert. He is. How many of us have even driven it? He has.
