    Im in Texas, and on the hunt for a 2000 to 01 XJ, I can turn into a crawling beast, with a goal in mind, of taking my kids to Moab for a few weeks every other year or so. And hit Gilmer every other weekend.

    Are those the 1tons from an f250 and if so, did you narrow the axles to fit under the XJ? Thanks

    • @rockquestoff-road2839
      @rockquestoff-road2839  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes they are! The front is from a 99-2004 F250 so it’s 69.25 inches wheel mounting surface (WMS) to WMS...the rear sterling 10.5 is from a 2005 F350 and its 70 inches WMS to WMS...that’s the perfect combo to match the widths...no narrowing needed we just use a low offset wheel like the American racing Ansel off road wheels with 5.7 inch backspacing or the new Hutchison bead locks we got are 5.3ish inch backspacing....the track width really turned out nice because we didn’t want a super wide rig...we like the closer to factory look 👍🏻if you get a front axle from a 2005+ Ford they will be a bit stronger but will be 72 inches wide which makes it just a bit too wide to compensate for with wheels...if you get an early sterling rear axle it will be 65ish inches so just watch the widths that you buy and you should be in good shape! Best mod you would ever do to your XJ...the stopping and steering feel alone is incredible

    I love it. I'm picking up my axles soon. Do they make e lockers for those axles?? I cant find any

    • @rockquestoff-road2839
      @rockquestoff-road2839  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do not believe anyone makes E-lockers for the Sterling or the Dana 50...only the Dana 60 under the front of F350s has a E-locker option.....we got a Yukon Zip Locker for the Sterling rear (basically a first gen ARB locker design) so we could drive on the street with zero issues....running a Yukon Grizzly locker in the Dana 50 (a detroit)....Auburn makes the ECTED selectable for the Dana 50 but steer clear of that one...it uses clutch plates to lock the front axles and it doesnt last or hold up to wheeling! Thanks!

    Are those full width axles or were they cut down

    • @rockquestoff-road2839
      @rockquestoff-road2839  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are full width...front is a Dana 50 from a 99-2004 Ford F-250 and it’s 69.25 inches WMS to WMS...the rear is a 10.5 Sterling from a 2005 Ford and is 70 inches WMS to WMS...wheels are deep backspacing 5.7 inches so that helps keep it narrow enough to make you think it’s not running tons

    • @rockquestoff-road2839

    What are the benefits to have 1 tone axles on a jeep

    • @rockquestoff-road2839
      @rockquestoff-road2839  ปีที่แล้ว

      They stand up to a lot more abuse and shock torque from the rocks and tall tires. Knuckles and steering components are massive and prevent a lot more breakage from lockers and hydro steering

    You should probably learn how to wheel before you get one tons and destroy a perfectly good jeep for no reason. :(

    • @rockquestoff-road2839
      @rockquestoff-road2839  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well accidents happen to the best of us...wheeling with zero accidents for over 20 years kinda didn't help our feelings after it happened...some people go out to destroy their rig but that is definitely not us...we love our rigs to death and it really was a downer...

    • @ProjectXJ
      @ProjectXJ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rockquestoff-road2839 it looked very avoidable with a little less throttle. Spotter must have been a newb saying right and left. If you wheeled that cherokee hard enough to need one tons and didn't get any damage, that takes a lot of skill, of which I saw none in this particular video. Just looked like the driver was new to wheeling. It always makes me sad to see XJs beat on unnecessarily.

    • @rockquestoff-road2839
      @rockquestoff-road2839  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are definitely entitled to your opinion...only 2 lines on this obstacle...put a left tire on top of the wall to the driver side if you have a buggy.....otherwise let it slide and grip while turning drive on the way up...watched footage from weekend before last and any full bodied rigs who conquered it wrecked their driver side panels lol...here is one link...not going to attempt this one again until it washes out more and gives some more options to avoid body damage because that is no fun :) watch at 9:35 its unavoidable th-cam.com/video/YDjCzmL1UBk/w-d-xo.html

    • @ProjectXJ
