    You are literally the only one I have seen that have the patience to get rid of all the print lines. And that is also why your builds are nr1.
    Huge respect for the amount of work that you do on your pieces.
    Incredible work and I love your videos!!!

      How do you seal the graphite powder? Thank you soooo much! Love from greece!

    • @studioofmm

      In theory you should be able to just spray a clear lacquer overtop. If it reacts strangely to the graphite being a powder then add a layer of artist fixative spray first.

    Tip to make smoothing your FDM prints easier with Bondo... sand the raw print first before you add Bondo. It drastically cuts down your Bondo, Sanding, Filler Primer process! Great work!!!

    The results are amazing. Pretty clean and accurate. Did you use a clear laquer or gloss layer over the graphite powder on the armor? I ask bc I know sometimes that could affect the glossy appearance. I worry about fingerprints or the color coming off if I don't seal the armor or helmet.

    When you sprayed the helmet with the black rustoleum that you said was a nightmare, how did you repair it and get it to be that amazing high gloss black finish in the end? Did you sand it down and start over? Did you use a flat black paint and then spray over that with the clear lacquer rustoleum to achieve that super glossy finish that you had in the end?

    • @studioofmm
      @studioofmm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Sanded it down so that it was smooth again and then the flat black with the lacquer over it. The lacquer was going to make anything look glossy enough and I’ve always had great results with the flat black and not having it create drips or orange peel, etc.

    Great work.
    Question: You just used black as an initial coat and covered that with a layer or two of clear gloss lacquer. Then used the graphite powder to get the beskar color. Is that it, or did you also use that same clear gloss lacquer after applying the graphite powder to seal it from any smudges/wear?

    • @studioofmm
      @studioofmm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe it was the black and then 1 coat of lacquer. I can’t see why doing 2 coats would cause an issue though if you don’t feel like you got enough of an even coat with just 1 pass. I didn’t use anything over the graphite powder as the mixture of power and spray would almost completely eliminate the graphite power effect. You might be able to use a spray intended for use with powered mediums to act as a barrier and then spray lacquer on top.

    • @Shane-RocketMan
      @Shane-RocketMan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@studioofmm Oh yeah that makes sense. I was just thinking of a way to seal the graphite powder because I intend on wearing my helmet and don't want to smudge it.
      You don't think a coat of clear would seal the graphite powder without ruining the color of it?

    • @studioofmm
      @studioofmm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The graphite powder seems to be surprisingly durable. It’s weird. Once it’s rubbed on it really doesn’t rub off. Of course there could be a lot of different factors that could change that and I completely understand wanting to protect a piece intended for wear.
      I’ve never directly attempted to spray the graphite power with any clear coat, but I did try using it on a piece that I then added resin to and it basically completely dissolved the powder and turned it black again. I’d recommend whatever you’re thinking of trying to use that you do a test on an extra piece first.

    • @Shane-RocketMan
      @Shane-RocketMan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@studioofmm That's a good idea. I'll probably do a little test before finishing the whole helmet once the graphite powder arrives on Friday.
      So it's durable, which is great, but does it leave any graphite stains on your fingers when you touch the helmet?

    • @Shane-RocketMan
      @Shane-RocketMan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Update: Adding a clear coat after applying the graphite powder worked well. Just make sure the helmet is clean and doesn't have any finger prints or marks in the graphite powder before you do the clear coat or else they will be sealed under and remain visible.

  • @Computerfly
    @Computerfly 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you seal the graphite without ruining the effect? A matte finishing spray would knock down the reflectivity

    • @studioofmm
      @studioofmm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would just try finishing it with a clear lacquer spray. Because Alumaluster is a resin based paint the high gloss finish will still look appropriate. The graphite powder on its own is almost too reflective and mirror like.
