It is a little tough to decide until the 4th Gen is actually in market and available.

I had the choice of a 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, Double Cab, 6’ bed with the Premium and Technology pkgs or an identical 24 Tacoma.
I chose the 23 because it’s a proven truck in reliability and durability.
Historically a Turbo engine simply doesn’t last as long as a Naturally Aspirated (NA) engine.
The 3.5L NA V6 has been around and improved significantly over the years.
My last Toyota RAV Limited 4WD had the 3.5L V6 and a 5spd automatic transmission.
I put over 300K miles on it.
I sold it to a friend who always told me that if j ever wanted to sell my Rav, to let him know. He knows that I changed the oil and filter every 5K miles with Valvoline High Mileage Full Synthetic oil. I use the High Mileage oil from day one because it has additives that reduce engine wear. Every 60K miles the front and rear differential, transfer case and transmission fluid was changed.
The brakes were bled every 60K miles as was the power steering fluid. Every 3 years or 35K miles the radiator was back flushed and new antifreeze was added.
He gave me top dollar for my RAV.
This is why I decided to buy my 23 Tacoma because I know the longevity, durability and reliability of the 3.5L V6, first hand.
Both of my mom’s Lexus have had the 3.5L V6.
I was talking to my friend who I sold my RAV to and it now has almost 350K miles and it still doesn’t burn oil.
I know that a gasoline powered Turbo will NOT last for 200K miles without a major problem.
We keep our vehicles for 15-20 years, or 300K miles or if it needs major repair, then we’ll sell or trade it in.
I now only drive 6-7K miles per year and at my age my Tacoma will be the last vehicle I’ll ever own.

I bought the 3rd gen because it’s a great new old truck. =) Yep, I love it for its industrial non-blingy interior and super reliable v6…and being a 23, it’s the last year of the year 3rd gen. I’m confused though, earlier you said you wanted a 4th gen and want to sell your 3rd gen, now you don’t. Lol

    • @DJXPLRS

I was considering it but I figured I hold my 3rd Gen for now. Let Toyota work the kinks out of the 4th Gen for a bit.

@@DJXPLRS I agree, never jump on the 1st to 3rd year model of the new gen until all the bugs and quality control get sorted out. This was my experience with other makes as well. It's usually more consistent with domestic brands.

Had a 2020 2.7 & just got the 2023 trd sport. Amazing truck 3.5L is way more powerful than the bullet proof 2.7L... I'm thinking the 2.4L turbo will be ok to go to grocery store & around town.... I've noticed the 3.5 is better on MPG on highway. Less rpm & if I hit a grade it doesn't need to downshift like the 2.7 did. Around town the 2.7 was fantastic. I'm thinking the 2.4 turbo will do fine in town VS traveling highway. My opinion is the 2.4 will be awesome (as the 2.4 it same block as 2.7 from what I've heard) it's the turbo at high mileage that I'd be worried about.... I'd make sure to let it warm up before driving at cold starts & let idle for 30 seconds to cool off turbo Every Time. I may end up getting one after 2 years of production. Good luck if you buy one. Toyota makes a great truck.

Reasons to get 2024 turbo low end with a 8 speed Tran and can get hybrid also for more power. 2023 and lower are gutless and fuel economy sucks and seats suck. I bought the 23 trd and regret it.
