      -Try to read as many beginner Texts as you want/need
      -Watch Movies and Series in German
      --At first with subtitles in your Native language. (That way you get more familiar with the sound of the language)
      --Move to german Subs ONLY once completly comfortable with reading
      -Play games in a german Server where you can write with multiple people. There are sometimes guys who are interrested in texting with foreigners
      -Finding people to speak with would be perfect
      -If you do find someone don't worry too much about using the right grammar and articles. It is most important to get comfortable with speaking a language that is completly foreign to you.

    • @A.The.H.
      @A.The.H. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@oppenbot1717 ah yeah, but any language can be hard. Especially if the language you’re learning is not one of major languages around you. I‘m from Southern California. Tbh there’s not a whole lot of languages to learn/available to learn. There’s Spanish, (mainly) Mandarin Chinese, some French, very little Italian, very little Korean (got to go somewhere like LA for that.) some Japanese (where I’m in there’s only 1 or 2 classes available.) and one German class from only two out of three colleges around me and we’re losing the better professor. Dutch isn’t available, Polish, Russian, any other language (at the community college level that is) is not available to learn. I’ve taken Spanish a long time ago I need to come back and learn again. (There’s a lot of Spanish speakers where I‘m at.) I need to continue learning ASL because my sister is Deaf.
      Right now, I‘m just taking Deutsch (German) and having fun with it. Spanish was very easy for me. German is a very close 2nd place to it being hard to learn. ASL was pretty damn hard due to me having to use my non dominant hand (right hand is kinda damaged.) and the fact it‘s solely visual. Non sign language based languages are rather easier to learn in general. I‘ve tried learning Japanese and maybe I‘ll take an official class, but it‘s very difficult to me. Dutch seems similar so I kinda want to pick it up as well. I want to learn German mainly that I want to experience a different country and culture from my own and hopefully live there. Also wouldn’t hurt to be the translator for when my family and I go on a family trip over there.
      What about you? What’s your journey with languages?
      Edit: since you mentioned you speak German, how do you think of English grammar or speaking/writing it?

    duolingo is great for starting a language. its free, and has good motivations (the leaderboard and streak make adhd brain go brrr). but its notoriously known for teaching you up to second grade level in that language (if youre lucky, some just go to first). i'm learning japanese, because i heard its hard and i wanted that challenge, and its interesting to be able to listen to or watch something japanese and pick out parts of sentences. i think its wonderful to get interested in a language with it, since ive tried learning russian and korean and gave up both times and am happy i didnt spend money on those courses
    learning a language is all about resources, and most people prefer free ones because we all poor. so my advice, once you get done with a duolingo course, is looking into language classes for children (ie, if youre learning japanese, look for things that japanese children use in japan) and looking at childrens books. no one is born knowing a language, everyone has to learn it, so why not learn it the way you learned your native language

      And for English it is something that is encouraged to speak and all my textbooks, novels are in english but i kinda learned English not from school but from the tons of bookd that my parents bought me and i am looking at the same approach for german as well
      Idk your motive to learn a lang is but ill tell you this, if you want to learn it for smthng that is important like a job or to study there dont open duo or memrise or any other app for that matter, pay for classes bcoz theyll teach you a lot more in less time
      Other than that if you're a casual learner like me there are many approaches you can take
      There are apps like duo and memrise based on the system that they teach you phrases and a little grammar which you keep applying outside the apps in newspaper and zines

    "Animal" is a Latin word and is used in romance (Latin) languages, English has a lot of influence from Latin languages despite being considered a Germanic language

      Honestly it depends on which device you use... For mobile app users that typically isn't the case: for example, only some German lessons have tips for mobile users too and the number drops to 0 tips when it comes to Russian.

    • @semnome9574
      @semnome9574 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly, but I mean, even if you don't have the tips (as Russian, for example), it's still a good plataform to teach you the basic. I'm really, really in the basics of Russian (the level where you still don't get some of their letters - I mean, I can't understand this "Ч"), my native language is Portuguese and I'm good in English. I'm really struggling to learn some things, and Duolingo is being helpful to me.
      The fact is, you can't just use the Duolingo, the same way you can't just do a course or just watch series. You must do everything and be consistent!
      I decided I want to learn Russian and Korean at the same time, just to see where I get, and I tell you, you can't start learning Korean in Duolingo without knowing the Hangul first (their crazy alphabet) - a thing Duolingo doesn't teach you in a good way (They only teach some syllables and that's it). That's why I will first learn through videos on TH-cam and then I will add the Duo bird.

    • @jessali_

    Duolingo has a grammar explanation page for most modules, it just happens to be slightly hidden now, you have to click the 'Tips' button.
    So with that in mind, yes, you can learn how to speak a language with it, just don't expect to get to a C2 level. Realistically, Duolingo can get you to around B1 level.
    Btw, for the sake of speedrunning, each module has a button with a key which gives you a test that once finished you can skip the whole thing rather than having to do however many tests you must to finish it... Or you could have gone straight to the checkpoint without even doing anything before.

    • @Reforming_LL
      @Reforming_LL 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lol not B1 level, more like A2 at best. Even with the more developed courses like Spanish or French, upon finishing the course, the learner will still be A2 level.
