    yeah. I def appreciate the 85mm for portraits over the 50mm. However, my hands down favorite portrait lens is the 70-200mm. Love the compression I get out of it. Go team Canon R5! haha

      Good choice. Got the 28-70 first and I think it was the perfect decision. I am usually not into zoom lenses but this one changed my mind completely. The versatility of this „prime in a zoom lens“ is just to good. It’s now my main lense although I also own the Rf 85 DS and the rf70-200

    I picked up an 85 1.2 DS as my second RF lens (after the 28-70 f2) on a sale before the R5 released - and just picked up a 50 1.2 this week! I really love the DS, and that it means I can generally shoot at 1.2 even on a bright sunny day, however the light it lets in is closer to 1.8 / 2.0 (which matches the 28-70 well) … however the new 50 is now my best low light performer :)

    Hey man,
    In which 4K format you shoot your all videos? 4K standard (ALL-I/IPB/IPB LITE) or 4KHQ (ALL-I/IPB/IPB LITE)?
    Thanks in advance!!!

    • @TKNORTH
      @TKNORTH  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Karan! I'm now using 4KHQ IBP lite for all my TH-cam based stuff - just saves a whole bunch of storage as the files are much smaller and they tend to playback a bit better for me. Always try to use 4KHQ where possible. Hope that's useful for you :)

    Ok, so I have a canon t7i. I shoot senior portraits, fashion photography, and events. Which lens should I get? Before I jump the gun to buy an entire new camera, I want to use what I have to get better photos.

    • @LtDeadeye
      @LtDeadeye 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      50mm on a Canon t7i would be an 80mm equivalent and an 85mm would be a 136mm equivalent. I'd go with a 50mm.

    That rf 85 is a macro lens?

  • @youperspective
    @youperspective 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think we can get similar results to the RF 85 1.2 with the 70-200 2.8 at 200mm

    • @Seitenwerk
      @Seitenwerk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes and no (I own both). You may have a comparable background blur, although not in the same quality. But you will create a lot of „compression“ in the image due to the perspective. Which is something that looks really off for many subjects at 200mm.
      Then there is also the 85 f1.2 DS version. Which is another level for bokeh or background/foreground blur. (That’s the variant I got) This one can’t be reached with the 70-200.
      Of course the 70-200 is more versatile so even when knowing the quality of the 85 DS, I will often us the 70-200 for its versatility depending on the situation

    Great visuals although a bit too much time spent on the shoot and a bit too less on the analysis. Would have loved some pros/cons in terms of sheer quality and rendering (instead of referring to the focus length as the only determinant for choice, which is obvious).

    Excellent video. Aren't those black swan aggressive? Like sometimes they would attack people for no reason haha. I own the 50mm RF 1.2L as well and will be doing environmental portraits with my gf this weekend. Also, I find f/2 to be the sweet spot for sharpness when compared to f/1.2 for the 50mm version.

    • @rachel7550
      @rachel7550 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you think 50 is sharper then the rf 85 at 1.2? This is helpful if so, think I’ll stick with my 50!

  • @fifaukrit

    Love your video man. Have you experienced any wobble from R5 and 15-35? I am considering getting R5 with 15-35 or A7SIII with 16-35 for vlogging. R5 was my first choice until I saw some of the video that has too much wobble on R5 with 15-35 :(

    • @fotonocity3887
      @fotonocity3887 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was in the same boat as you and had both at one point and sold the Sony A7siii and 16-35gm and kept the R5 and 15-35 f2.8. Let me first say none of these two setups are good for vlogging if you’re handholding them all the time. You have to ask yourself how much do you walk and vlog at the same time ? They’re both quite heavy. Autofocus on the Sony pulses quite a bit and I’m surprised no one talks about this. You have to keep changing af settings to get it right depending on the scene and lens you are using. 16-35 f2.8 gm lens is mediocre compared to rf 15-35. The rf 15-35 looks much better/more creamy and has little to no focus breathing. The focus breathing on the 16-35 and pulsing the second I entered the frame drove me nuts! For a serious filmmaker I think a7siii is better if you are behind the camera and are ok with changing AF speed/ object sensitivity and etc. But if you’re in front of the camera the R5 is much more easy to use and with default setting the AF works fantastic. Last thing is straight out of camera colors are better on the R5. Very little to no work to make it look good. Where as on the Sony it’s more work to make the footage look decent. Clog is much easier to grade than slog3. Just saying from my own personal experience using both cameras for good amount of time. Good luck! 👍🏼

    • @ChaseGumaer
      @ChaseGumaer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey bro! So I had this same dilemma and actually bought both the r6 and a7siii in both of those setups and ended up returning the canon because the wobble was so bad. I wanted to like the canon but it was just too distracting and when you’re vlogging you definitely don’t want to be thinking about making everything steady. What I noticed was the clips looked great on my camera and when I got them on my laptop they were pretty much unusable. Kept the a7s and love it! Vid is on my channel

    • @ChaseGumaer
      @ChaseGumaer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Canon definitely has warmer and more natural coloring and better lenses but the size/weight of the a7siii, reliability, and stabilization made the choice for me as a vlogger.

    i hope you guys can handle a little criticism, You Australian photography TH-camrs including you and Mitch Lally, are very good at technical knowledge about gears, but when you shoot models, you have no taste in composition and how to post models aesthetically. the poses are so bland and boring. Like shooting with an iphone kind of vibe, So different with Julia Trotti, magic, pierre t lamber, irene rudnyck, or even the young zach mendez who shoot models with great artistic taste. I do enjoy your videos for gear reviews only, the results are very plain, no wow effect. See nicoline patricia malina from indonesia and maybe you can learn some powerful skills to pose and compose your model shots.
    In this video you were holding two of the greatest lenses Canon has ever made, but you rely on presets??? you put models against a tight background with 1.2 lenses, shoot under exposed and edit in post? that's very amateurish.

    • @TKNORTH
      @TKNORTH  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I will happily take any criticism especially when it comes to portrait photography, as it is something I don’t often shoot nor do I claim to be particularly good at, particularly when this video was made. But I used to love giving it a go and it has definitely helped me improve over time. I would certainly cringe quite a lot watching this video back now and don’t really want to 😂. But I’d also be thankful for how I’ve progressed in that time which is why I certainly won’t remove it.
      But to bring in Mitch into the conversation who isn’t even in this video I will definitely push back on. By far one of the best portrait photographers I know so I definitely don’t agree with you there at all.

      @@TKNORTH hi, thanks for the response, didn't realize this was made 3 years ago. An opinion is an opinion, I have mine and in the same time respect your opinion of Mitch. Mitch, Gerard Needham and XIng Liu take shots of models with very plain poses also and angles. Maybe it's just a matter of taste or i over expect from you guys :) keep up with the good work, i still subscribe you.
      zach mendez is the best mood photographers i have seen on youtube, i have a few friends here who are very good in mood portrait photography but no channel. Irene Rudnyck is another story she's very good and artsy

      @@mynameistrd6841 appreciate you checking it out either way and thanks for the opinion! Totally agree, it's pretty subjective at the end of the day, which is one of the great things about photography.
