Yep - I've had mine for close to a year and would not want to part with it. I use it for both portraits and landscape photography. Recently got its bigger brother, the 85mm 1.2, and it is THE sharpest lens at that focal length I've ever used, and I've done this for close to 40 years now. Great video by the way!

I have both EF50/1.2 and RF50/1.2. At a very begining (and because experience with EF lens) I was affraid to shoot at f/1.2. What a surprise. This lens is awesome at f/1.2! Detailed, sharp and focus is where is supposed to be. Class above EF 50/1.2. It’s my favorite lens for R5. Highly recommend

I'm an amateur photographer, and I this has been one of the best purchases I have made camerawise. I got the R6 over the R5 and sold my 70-200 F4 as well. Totally worth it. The pics from this lens have something that few other pieces of glass can provide. The gorgeous fall-off and enormous amounts of bokeh it provides plus the absolutely reliable sharpness at F1.2 are so great to have and many pics have something special that you can't easily get otherwise. I got so used to the bokeh that most other lenses' bokeh just looks somehow broken to me now.
Still it's not the lens I wanted. I wanted an RF 50 1.4 thats good to quite good, around 1000 bucks and around 500 grams...

I’m switching from Fujifilm to Canon BECAUSE of this lens. I’ve shot Fuji for 5 years. Yes the colors are awesome SOOC, but from a professional standpoint Canon just makes it more true-to-life from the get-go. Anyway, 50mm is my favorite and I was really disappointed when Fuji opted for a xf33f1.4 instead of the xf33f1.0. I’vr owned every 50mm equivalent fuji has made for the X-system. I loved the xf33 the most, but it needed a bit more separation. F1.0 would have done that. I’ve shot entire weddings just with the xf33f1.4. 50mm is my speed and how I see compositions. The R6mkii with the RF50f1.2 would be my one-and-done kit. Great video btw! Sorry for the rant!

Great video... I was confused by the DxOMark numbers and took a look. It's on the old EOS R body, which is why the "sharpness" value is 22 megapixels. They never reviewed it on the R5. (DxOMark, in general, is a bit dodgy as they allow manufacturers to pay for "consulting" to obtain better scores.) If you look at Christopher Frost's review of the 50mm f/1.2 RF, it easily outperforms the Sigma f/1.4 ART

Some weird points in this video, but overall good. Like, I am paraphrasing, "I'm looking into a different camera system for casual shooting because this lens is so heavy", I mean there's the RF 50 f/1.8 for casual shooting, or RF 28 f/2.8, you said yourself that f/1.2 is not for the causal shooter. Canon R5 with these lenses is not meaningfully larger than the XPro-3. If you were to go for size, I'd look into X-S20, for more modern capabilities in a small package. I have gone in the opposite direction, sold my Fuji kit, abandoned the "middle ground" and settled at the extremes, full frame Canon R5 kit on one end and Ricoh GR III for "casual" shooting at the other. That difference in size is VERY meaningful.

I hear you on that! They really need to get 1.4 primes out, it’s been far too long without them. Fingers crossed!

mapping the control ring to iso is insanity. I will never understand these wedding photographers

You have to half press down on the button to operate changing the ISO on the ring

the bokeh , background is too strong. is very bad lenses nowdays rf . the point of boheh is lost and the soul of picture is zero

If your not a professional Id steer people away from canon full stop its just such an expensive system and all physically large. Apart from those little Marco primes which are completely the other way canon sorely need a middle ground

  • @Kevon420

The biggest L here is you didn’t take 1,003 more photos before you made this video.

Great lens but definitely not worth $2300 no matter how ‘good’ you feel when using it. Classic definition of overpriced gear.

What the shit is “clinical sharpness”? What the shit is “character”?
    Hipster bullshit, that’s what. 🤣

What you should have said is “if your not doing this professionally you shouldnt buy Canon” because RF is overpriced and there are no affordable primes.
