I was hoping you'd do some really low light level shots. I get what the numbers mean on an intellectual level, but I don't have a feel for what that actually gives you. For instance, could I get a decent pre-dawn landscape shot in an area with no light pollution? Does a partial moon provide enough light? What's its limit?
would be muchhhh better if this premium lens using much modern linear motor instead of using older, louder, heavier, slower, smaller, less smooth, less power efficient rotary USM. Nano USM much better option at least, but it cant handle heavier lens element. Its like a bottleneck of the system, especially when Canon got very accurate & fast AF +high burst rate, yet the lenses using slow AF mechanism. you would notice slower AF when focusing close to far subject. I would say this lens overpriced as it didnt put latest tech in it. Even 3rd party lenses now have linear motor , Sigma HLA , Tamron VXD even Samyang using on their cinema V-AF lineup. Hoping next Canon lenses can employ newer Linear AF motor that fair better with upcoming Quad pixel AF
I;m using it sometimes, I had a great deal on it so I decided to keep it. 1.2 is bloody awesome! Love it althought it does have obviously some problems ;)
@@wh17efox sinmole answer: no. Beginners need to learn a lot more technique before spending top dollar to get 3% better performance than with a cheaper lens that costs a fraction of the f1.2 Buying f1.2 lens for 2000 dollars wont give you good images if your technique is flawed. If you are interested, watch the old digitalrevTV videos where they hand pro photographers shitty toy cameras. They manage to make stunning photos
I got the Sigma Art 50 1.4 new instead and saved $2000 vs the Canon and it's just as sharp, focuses 2x faster than the Canon and is lighter and has a 7x longer warranty than Canon. It is my fav lens.
I have a Nikon Z 50 f1.2, it's definitely larger compared to the RF 50 1.2, but I love using it. The soft out-of-focus and shallow depth of field it gives is really something else.
Some really great shots out of that lens. But like you I use my 24-70 f2.8 most of the time. And these days since I'm adventuring more often, having a lighter kit and taking one lens that does pretty much everything is a big factor. 24-70 isn't a light lens either but saves me carrying multiple
I had the RF 50 1.2 and absolutely loved it. Then I got the RF 28-70 F2. Didn’t make sense to keep it, so I sold it. 28-70 F2 is by far my favorite lens next to the EF 135 F2.
The 28-70 is soooo tempting. Good separation and fast but there’s still a lot of separation and light to be had between 1.2 and 2 vs between 2 and 2.8. A 50 1.2 complimenting the 15-35 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 might be my play
What do you think about camea clips. Ones that you attach to a bagback strap or belt and attach your camera there for quick release. Are they comfortable? Do you actually use it when it's attached? And generally, would you redomend thhem to someone?
The lack of IS can matter more when your body does not have IBIS, such as my R10. Having to bump the shutter speed negates some of the advantage of a prime’s aperture. (I wouldn’t buy up to the 50/1.2 before having a higher end body, still working with the 50/1.8!)
That's so funny. I can see that in photos, but working in video my higher end bodies and lenses all lack IS. So you have to buy high end stabilization rigs to compensate.
Which camera do you suggest for me: canon r6 mark ii or sony alpha 7 iv? Do no be worry about lenses I want to purchase something to keep enough years i do not know if sony crop videos and overheating affecting too much?
I'm late, but is this lens significantly better than the EF 50mm f1.8? I know it's better, but is it worrh the money for me who isn't a pro? Some day I will probably buy a L lens or a similar lens which is really a great lens. And also ecpensive. Also, is it really a must to use filters to get the best possible landscape shots sometimes? Just thinking cause in the past people didn't use them and still got amazing results.
I have both the Canon RF 50mm f/1.2 and Canon RF 50mm f/1.8. I bought the f/1.8 lens first, but it is so soft wide open. Since buying the f/1.2 it has become my most used lens; it is much sharper, especially wide open. I also like the 77mm filter size because I can use the same filter across multiple Canon L lenses.
I know this is an old video now, just watching today. But can't you just work out stops by clicking the f stop on your camera 3 times? As in, a camera's f stop varies up or down by 1/3 of a stop every click. Right?
Just bought this lens. I know people have said that af is noisy, but mine clunks when focusing from close to infinity, to the point i can feel it through the canera quite easily. Is this normal?
The Canon 28-70mm F/2 is the lens I shoot with most of the time. It has ruined other lenses for me. I can get most of the shots I usually take without switching lenses.
i really can't stand the weird corner warping on the 15-35 IS. Did they never fix that? Is there a even a fix? That's probably the IBIS' fault, but I think you still can't turn off just the IBIS. Either way, big yikes.
You need to check T-stops. The F1.2 is a T1.5 and the F1.8 is a T1.9, so it's just 60% faster. You can also get a few F1.4 lenses that are as fast as the Canon F1.2.
