Hey guys! Hope you enjoyed this Top 10. Let me know if you want more like this. In case you missed my Top 10 Video Games of ALL TIME video, here it is - th-cam.com/video/tktzXdVdRQo/w-d-xo.html I actually could probably do a sequel episode to this. There were a ton of games Dad hated that I loved. Let me know in the comments what other Top 10 videos you'd like me to do. Appreciate you all!
Haha of course he did. He hated RPG games. To be fair, Super Mario RPG is rough to get into. Especially for me after playing Final Fantasy III SNES. It feels primitive, clunky. 🤙
14:22 😁 Im 35 and even as a kid i only got into Pokemon because i love RPG games and not so much Pokemon itself. I thought it was insane to have 6 party members and over 100 to choose from. Besides, if your dad realized that a 10 year old Ash Catchem travels into the harsh world alone capturing animals and forcing them to fight for sport around the world then hed realize how dark and messed up Pokemon really is. lol
17:17 Thats great parenting. As a music teacher i teach my students to keep an open mind but if you truly like something, then defend it no matter who says what. We dont all like the same music and no one can convince me not to like a song. Some kids might feel forced to agree or do whatever dad wants but instead it lets the child grow into their own personality with personal tastes and opinions. Besides, who doesn’t have guilty pleasures. Bubsy is a weird love hate relationship. Bubsy as a character is charming and so is the music. The games are just janky. My favorite Mario clone was Toy Story 2. Weekend rentals were stuff like Bubsy SNES when ganes were all gone and Gex did that for PS1 when everything else was gone.
Not a retro example, mind you, but I'd laugh if he liked Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy 15 just by going "FINALLY they make one of these and it's not turn-based."
Jesus man, I think your dad bought you every console and every video game that ever came out! We had an SNES and Genesis growing up, and I’ve never even heard of most of these games on your list lol. Your dad seemed cool though and that’s really awesome that you guys bonded with video games like you did.
My condolences on your dad's passing, as I am a recent subscriber. In my estimation, he deserves a spot in the Video Game Hall of Fame, for his enthusiasm and sheer brilliance to record all of these irreplaceable moments. My father passed away in 1999, when I was 19 - and even though he never played the games, he seemed to be just as enthusiastic about all of the games I played. He even introduced me to my very first video game ever - The TeleStar video tennis/hockey game (it was basically Pong). I'll never forget when he first saw Super Mario 64 and how blown away he was over the graphics. So cool.

there's no need to be so pedantic online folks. Not everyone is misspelling on purpose. some people, like, most people, go on the internet to unwind after a long day and are not that bothered about how they convey a message. just remember that before you become a stick in the mud.
No he is lucky and most likely thankful for having a G O O D Dad Mine is an asshole I apologize for the language but he is not a great person my Mom on the other hand is amazing so yeah
Hey Tyler! Same as you and your dad, my dad worked in (Entertainment) retails and we shared the passion for videogames through all my childhood and we fortunatly still do. Your channel makes me very happy and super nostalgic in the absolute best way possible! thanks for sharing all this private moments with your dad! Its really really well appreciated!
My dad also hated The Simpsons. He typically called them The Simpletons. However, I do remember the one time he laughed during the show. The show was already running in syndication in the late 90s, early 2000s. I was watching it after school, and he had just come home from work and walked out into the living room to see The Simpsons episode that was currently airing. It was the beginning of the episode, and he saw Otto walk out of Stoner's Pot Palace. Otto, in disgust, said, "That is flagrant, false advertising!" My dad laughed out loud, and he said something along the lines that Otto thought it was for pot! It made me laugh and smile. He never liked the show. He never did anything like that again, nor would he watch it. I lost my dad 2 months ago, and this is still one of the memories of him that sticks in my mind. It was so ironic to for him to hate something and to see something that he laughed at while understanding the reference of Otto being disgusted. Things can still surprise you sometimes. I have to hold that one close
This is the first time I’ve ever subscribed to a TH-cam channel. My dad and I were a gaming duo as well, though he had me a little later in his life. I remember waiting up all night as a child, excited for him to return home from work so that we could continue our bouts of Joust, PAC-MAN and Q*bert on the Atari. I was born in ‘80. He was 40 years old then. So, by the time the NES released, I think games like Mario and MEGAMAN may have been too fast and complex for him to really enjoy. But, he would always get them for me and watch me play. This video definitely draws some parallels and has me reminiscing of that time in my life. It’s also yet another reminder of why I love Nintendo so much. I stayed up all night at my local BestBuy to purchase a Wii. For the first time in 20 some odd years, that system had us huddled around the television as a family, laughing and shouting as we passed the controller just like we did back in the day. He was well into his 60’s then, but that didn’t hinder us one bit. It’ll be 4 years this June since I’ve lost my father and there hasn’t been a single day gone by that I don’t miss him. He was my best friend, and there is no one on this earth next to my mother that ever would, or ever could love me more. Thank you so much for sharing this slice of your life with us, friend. The memories it gave me brought me great joy. I look forward to watching more of your content.
Didn't even know the man,but I miss him. It's like a movie star or band member you don't know, and when they're gone but you have something to look back on, ya feel the connection. His commentary over your childhood was always great. All the little remarks about games and consoles and the years and the history and weird ads. He def seemed pretty funny, quit witted and always willing to try and crack a joke or see the good in most things.
I absolutely love these videos. I was much older than you in the 90s, I turned 20 in 1990, but I was still buying these games and systems back then, and I have fond memories of some game or system coming out, and rushing to the store to get it, and staying up half the night despite having to work the next day, playing with it.
Man, it's insane how similar our stories are. I grew up in the late eighties to early nineties, I gamed because my dad is a gamer. My cousins who lived across the country got me into RPGs, my dad hates RPGs. We still text or call each other about new games coming out. He's 60 this year. Still gaming strong. That's my deepest connection to my love of gaming, and especially retro gaming. That was my most consistent bonding experience with my father. Video games. I'm glad to hear someone with a similar origin story.
New to your channel but I enjoy the VHS content & commentary from gaming in the 90's. In 1995 I was 32 years old, probably a similar age to your dad, so I fully understand the "cutsie" Mario games dynamic as I too preferred more adult games like "Road Rash", "Twisted Metal" & "Return Fire" on the original Playstation. Excellent points of the contrast of generational taste quite enjoyable!
I almost feel surprised there was ANYTHING your dad didn’t like. Every video I’ve seen of yours shows him so positive and excited about everything. Of course, I understand that nobody can always be that way - I’ve even seen your videos talking about bad times. I’m just really impressed you’ve presented such an optimistic view of him, the way a loved one would exist in your memory.
It has the opposite effect on me. This is my first video of him so his dad just based on this came up like a really close minded person towards game. Although he seems to be really positive in your comment so i'll take your word on it. To me it kinda sounded like he didn't like anything wasn't "best graphics" like most people nowadays with next gen games
@@KingJadInfiniteHope i know, is just that based on this one alone, there was a lot of good games, most of them being more story driven and most of the times his dad didn't liked it cause it wasn't looking good enough/mature enough or because it was an rgp so it sounded like that to me when i first saw it
You are so lucky to come from a financially secure family growing up, and getting so many gaming opportunities, and it all being caught on tape. 🥰 I come from a really poor family, owning a video camera to us was what rich people did. And having so many games. Wow. You got more games in 1 Christmas than I did an entire console generation. I love watching your videos with your dad. Although poor and limited with games, I still loved growing up in the 80s and 90s. Gaming is my life and escape, still is. My dad always got me my games, and he got into gaming himself at the end of the PS1 era. So it's something we enjoyed, while not getting on very well as I was an angry teenager, and a bit of a d**k. My dad died in 2020 and I don't have a single video me and him together. Which breaks my heart. So seeing your videos is very bittersweet for me; you're so lucky your dad had that camera and it was on all the time. Your dad was an influencer before it was even a thing haha.❤ Keep up the amazing content. Lots of love from England.
I can relate so much to your life as a child, I absolutely love reminiscing my life as a child. Helps me remember things I lost along the way and it's such a good feeling to remember all those memories, thanks so much man!!
I was 6 years old when Pokemon Red and Blue came out so naturally I got into Pokemon for the same reason every other kid around my age or older did, because it was insanely popular. I mean they had a game, tv show, card game that pretty much all directly tied in with eachother. In the show they would go to the same cities, fight the same gym leaders and catch the same pokemon that you could in the game, this made you feel very immersed into this pokemon world. Long story short these were the first rpg games i ever played so naturally it left a good impression on me as far as rpgs go.
Hey man, I love your channel. You deserve more subs. I'm the same age as you. I was a sophomore 2001. I wish my dad shared my love for video games like yours did. You had the coolest dad ever. RIP to your pops.
My old man had a camera in those days to and it kills me that we never found any of the tapes. it sucks when you move around and lose priceless stuff like that! i remember falling in the creek and him recording it and me getting pissed because he didn't help me lol i would kill to see that video!
I really love your channel... it brings me such feelings of nostalgia about my own dad... he wasn't really a gamer... but i really remember three instances of us bonding over videogames, on the SNES back when i was a kid with pilotwings... when he saw all star baseball 98 on the N64 and when i was starting college and i showed him Medal of Honor frontline on PS2 he was floored every single time hehehe... he passed away 15 years ago and sometimes i wonder what he would've thought about mlb the show and stuff like that... thanks for bringing up memories like this!!
This reminds me of some of the games I enjoyed as a kid that my dad (who is also a gamer) looked at me and said, "What the heck is this?" Thanks for sharing, Tyler! Always look forward to seeing new videos in my sub feed!
We never got Mario RPG at all in the UK until the Wii virtual console release some 15 years later :( So, you'd see US copies of this, Chrono Trigger and Earthbound all the time in import game stores here. Mainly as they or Hong Kong were usually the first region to have an English port of the game and no one wants to waste crazy '90s game prices on a game they can't understand :P
@@MyRetroLife In hindsight I think having to put all the European languages into the cart and having a manual the size of a phone book included, was just too expensive to release in Europe. But it did bug me immensily as a kid that despite that the face we spoke the same language and were the third biggest consumer of video games in the world, Nintendo still refused to release a lot of games here. I did (ahem) aquire a Super Wild Card for my SNES as I was so sick of being unable to purchase the games I wanted here, and importers wanted well over £100 for a game each time. Also my Dad pretty much hated every game ever except Great Golf and Shanghai on the Master System. :P
@@MyRetroLife Because it was Square Enix. Remember Europe didn't get Final Fantasy *at all* until 7. They never got 1, 4 and 6 as 1/2/3 like we did. ...They did get Mystic Quest, though. Which really goes to show what Square thought of Europe at the time, huh.
I don’t know if you’ll see this but your videos have really cheered me up when I’ve had bad days, seeing the relationship that you and your dad had and your joy when getting a new game or console For your birthday is such a treat! Your dad really was awesome to document this stuff and it’s awesome he was also into video games and stuff as well!
Hi , I live in Germany. I am born in 82. your videos are exactly the mirror of my childhood. what your parents recorded on video back then is just wonderful for all of us out here. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. Greetings from Germany, Jorgo 😉
@@ishan5011 one can't help what they don't "like" everyone has different levels of dislike. I personally love RPG games but absolutely hate MOBAs. Doesn't change that League of Legends is one of the best games ever made.
@@ishan5011 If he saw some of the earlier RPGs that were played in 1st person then he probably would have understood and appreciated the journey that RPGs made.
I absolutely love the love that you show for your father. It's a truly wonderful thing. But I also love seeing the joy you have when you received a game. Seeing that kid smile and holding up a sealed box above your head reminds me of my boys and the job they have when I gift them with something they have long been wanting. Life is a beautiful thing, isn't it? Thank you for your channel and sharing your history.
My dad used to make fun of me from 97-2000 for playing the final fantasy series. Haha he thought it was boring to "push a button and see something happen. Wait a min and then push the button again and something would happen" those were his words. He didn't understand turn based combat. It must've been their generation. They grew up with 70's/80's arcade games.
I just stumbled across your channel boss. I watched your sony playstation video and the footage of your childhood gave me so much nostalgia. But more than anything, you seemed to just have the greatest dad in the world dude. Love your channel.
LOL when you are talking about your dad not liking Beethoven, you do an impression of his face and you look just like him. Oh man, that is awesome, I wish I had the time stamps so you could do a side by side.
I was born in 1993 so I'm a bit younger. I did get to experience yoshi's island through it's gba release. It made me fall in love with yoshi as a character. Most of the adults in my family didn't play games often. I did bond with my grandma through sonic the hedgehog 2 for sega genesis. We would take turns in levels to reach the end. We also loved playing the missing object puzzle games through bigfish ganes. Solving puzzles and completing the story was wonderful. My sister and I would take turns playing crash bandicoot warped on ps1 or I'd make her my player 2( tails) on sonic the hedgehog 2..She's four years younger than me so she would've been six years old back then. She used to lift the controller to jump over obstacles. I remember being frustrated waiting for my turn but now it's a fond memory. I wonder if she remembers?
This channel moves my feelings in a certain way, and I just realized why. I think this bond u had with yiur family is just what I really wanted with my dad. Im ok with that, but I realize that having something like that would have completely changed everything, even how I am today, as a person.
I honestly don't even know how Tyler had the time to play so many games. I played pokemon red (my brother's) and Pokemon Crystal when they were new and just those games alone required so many hours of grinding and patience. I think Pokemon Crystal alone I put atleast 100 hours into. It also makes me wonder if having so many games takes away from the enjoyment of each one because you have so many.
My parents hated the Simpsons too. Mind boggling, because two of the main characters are parents their age, who went to high school in the 70's (just like them). My Dad also loved Harry Shearer, and Hank Azaria, so I have no idea how he didn't enjoy it.
I wasn’t into RPGs either in my earlier years. It took a while to get into them because theres a certain understanding that’s required in order for it to make sense. But you also hit the nail on the head when you said that its the first RPG in a line full of platformers and a racing game.
I don’t think I really got into rpgs until I was about 12/13 but I love them now, my friends definitely don’t like them but they think the concept is kinda cool but can’t get into them
Yeah and also RPGs didn't really catch on in the US until Final Fantasy VII on the Playstation and before that they were pretty niche like they had an audience but not quite mainstream and the audience for those games were the DnD nerds to be exact like for example Final Fantasy IV (Or Final Fantasy II in the US) sold about 1.3 million units in Japan but in North America it only sold about 250.000 units
Never met you or your dad, but I wish he was still alive to do these videos with you. I'd love to hear his perspective. Last time I played my Pop in a game it must of been 1994 it was a Football game on Sega.
Tyler, great video, I’m just blown away seeing how my taste for games is similar to your dad’s. Would have loved to meet him. Great channel, thank you for sharing!
Your dad wasn't alone on Earthbound. They always had just one copy of it at the video rental store and I swear I was the only one who rented the thing. I instantly fell in love with it, but yeah, it wasn't popular at alllll back then.
This was another great episode. Takes you back. My dad would only play sports games, but we had a lot of fun playing them together, really the only time he spent much time with me. But he thought all the other games I had were silly, kids stuff!
Just found your channel and I LOVE it! This video especially because it speaks to me. I'm probably around your fathers age and he and I were almost 100% on the same page...on almost everything he didn't like, lol. Great stuff man. Keep up the great work!
My father also had the same line of reasoning as his father. However, we only had the Super Nintendo and we constantly played Mortal Kombat, Sonic Wings, Top Gear and others.
Your Dad was right about Super mario world 2 yoshis island. The art design turned alot of us off on the game. Took me a little while before I played it and realized it was a good game. But coming from a marketing perspective he was right
hey man youre dad was and still is a absolute legend ! youtube literally needed this content. me born in 95 in a family that wasnt the most fond of gaming, these videos are like a glimpse on an alternate universe im a huge fan of nostalgia and retro things (80s/90s and early 2000s) and off topic im a huge fan of the old bumfights series that started in the late 90's created by Indecline your videos are like a wholesome version of a retro time capsule compared to the bumfight series lolol this type of documentation needs to be shared!!!
there would have been a time where I would've been extremely jealous of you. I never had a dad and we could barely afford a Nintendo...late tho lol not when it came out..but now I'm a dad myself...me and my son had so much fun playing many video games together. I think it's really cool how you can show us old video here on your channel
It's so interesting every time you go into detail of a memory you had tied to these games. Also your dad and I have something in common we both don't like turn based games. I can appreciate them from a distance but won't catch me playing one lol. Thanks for sharing always love watching your vids
I don't know how any gamer could not have liked military madness back then. There was no other game like it, and it was total fun without being overly difficult.
I’ve watched a few of your videos now. Thank you for sharing so many memories of your dad with us. I hope it’s OK if I say it’s obvious how much he loved you and how happy it made him to see you happy.
The Simpsons Arcade will always be my favorite Simpsons game!! I liked the other Simpsons games but I truly felt like I was playing a live episode on the arcade version!
I just found it very difficult as a kid to beat the game, which led to major frustration lol, I still can definitely appreciate it for what it is but man was it ever tough lol
i gotta agree with your dad on a lot of these haha. Though like your dad I was always much bigger into the Sega Megadrive and I loved the fighting games on it like streets of rage and games like robocop vs terminator and revenge of shinobi over the more cartoony and colourful mario and zelda.
My dad actually liked the concept of turn based RPGs but he was frustrated with how easily I would beat the bosses after grinding a lot(which is how I play RPGs unless I can’t grind because I LOVE turn based RPGs), he wanted them to be more strategic to fully utilize the battle system(he would love SMT games if he watched me play those but I was too young to play those games when he was still watching me play games).
I first discovered Beethoven via SNES emulation at a friend's house one night. I was oddly drawn to it and played to completion that same night. It was indeed a terrible game, but in that "so bad you have to keep going" kind of way.
For my dad it's also Super Mario RPG for the SNES. But only because he was miserly and gifted me a copy of it when we were abroad in another region. He probably was even more upset that little me already mentioned the wrong cartridge's format in the shop before.
My dad only liked a total of two-ish games when I was growing up: 1. Ms. Pac-Man 2. Donkey Kong Country (2 & 3 only) You should consider yourself lucky, bro!
I think I saw your videos originally on amazon prime video and was instantly hooked by the footage from the 90s. Cool to now find you on here. Your dad seems like a good guy.
I’m with your dad on RPGs but not RTS games like Military Madness. Love those and maybe he would have loved the Advance Wars series instead? Those games are awesome!
I love your videos, man. It makes me wish I would have recorded myself playing video games as a kid. I will make sure to do it when I have kids myself!
My first RPG was Secret of Mana and it blew me away. I managed to get pretty far without ever putting on new armor I bought because I didn't know you have to put it on. ALl my friends were flabberghasted I managed to get as far as I did without any armor XD
I wonder if your dad would have liked General Chaos. It's real time strategy baked into a lot of action. So awesome that his spirit is with all of us. Thank you as always for sharing.
Dad was a internet game critic b4 they even existed lol "SIMPSONS!?! WTF IS THIS!????" I kno he probably never said those words out loud but most definitely thought it in his head. "This turn based b.s is not it bro!"... his opinion on Simpsons animation style was the 90s equivalent to "ur doin too much bruh!" Even thru all personal unfavorable opinions on certain stuff, I respect that he never tried to dissuade u from playing games that he didn't enjoy or push his style on you..he might have not been able to hold back his negative dialogue sometimes, but it never seems like he tried to "backseat" his preferences onto u or convince u to go a different direction.. he just couldn't hold back his inner dialogue sometimes when watching u play lol, which is not the same as being unsupportive! Given the fact that he always bought u the games he knew he himself would hate all the time lol. Iv literally seen parents who would try to make their kids feel bad for enjoying things that they themselves were not not into which is just terrible and bad parenting as well as bad "humaning" in general.. dad walking in and going "ughh" then walking away with a eye roll whenever he walked in on u playing turn based is very acceptable in my opinion, as long as he still supported your enjoyment of it..(we can excuse the Tasmania game in this case lol)..I guess that game offended dad on another level!. The thing is with games like that, as a younger child we enjoyed simpler or easier games simply because of the fact that we were more easily able to beat them, or get further in them..for example there were 2 games my brother wasn't as into saying they were too easy. One was Mackey and minnie Carnival adventure, and the other was a xmen game (the one with wolverine, gambit, cyclops, psylocke and beast all having their own specific levels).. I would play both those games religiously because I knew they were games I can beat or get close to beating!! In a era of games where I wouldn't EVER be able to see past the first 3 levels with my own eyes, it felt good to find games I can see to the end!! Another one was a power rangers game with the purple ooze guy as the final boss... id see my brother playing games like mega man, star wars, double dragon/battle toads ect and get to levels I didn't even kno existed!! some of those games weren't meant for a 4-8 year old.(my prime snes years lol) those damn disney games man!! Those should have been for kids but instead were some of the unreasonably most difficult games ever created!! Lion king and alladin literally broke many controllers!!
you and your dad's relationship with videogames, reminds me of how me and my mother was with the n64, ps2, GameCube, ps3, xbox. you name it we played it, Mario was her favorite, she loved paper Mario it made her fall in love with rpgs. miss you mom
Great stuff as usual Tyler! Thanks! I’d like to say, you sound just like your pop when you joke around with your daughter… like exact replica… it’s so cool! Keep up the greatness
I was born in 71, been gaming my whole life and I have played erm virtually everything and I can honestly say your dad sounds like he had very similar taste to me except I don't mind the odd turn based game well final fantasy at least lol. It sounds to me from watching your video that your dad was trying to guide you as a young child in what he thinks makes a good game from his years of experience gaming and good for him for passing on his love of gaming to you. I would have looked at my kids with an uncertain expression if they told me Beethoven was a good game also🤣

My dad laughed out loud, and he said something along the lines that Otto thought it was for pot!
Genuinely dude, thats a rlly beautiful comment. Rest in peace man ur dad sounds like a cool guy
Hehehe
Rip to your dad
TLDR
Dean: awesome you discovered this channel. I've been bingeing as well !
@@edduflema6050 watch any other video you’ll think differently.
I come from a really poor family, owning a video camera to us was what rich people did.
Your dad was an influencer before it was even a thing haha.❤
Keep up the amazing content. Lots of love from England.
I can relate so much to your life as a child, I absolutely love reminiscing my life as a child. Helps me remember things I lost along the way and it's such a good feeling to remember all those memories, thanks so much man!!
Happy these videos can do that for you man
Thanks brother!!
Pokemon pretty much created all of the millennial RPG fans singlehandedly.
You are so needed for the history of gaming & i appreciate every video you put your hard work into! Thank you so much. See you on the next one!
Appreciate you saying that! Thank you.
This reminds me of some of the games I enjoyed as a kid that my dad (who is also a gamer) looked at me and said, "What the heck is this?" Thanks for sharing, Tyler! Always look forward to seeing new videos in my sub feed!
The hack for Yoshi's Island to remove the crying Mario sound makes the game pure perfection.
We never got Mario RPG at all in the UK until the Wii virtual console release some 15 years later :(
So, you'd see US copies of this, Chrono Trigger and Earthbound all the time in import game stores here. Mainly as they or Hong Kong were usually the first region to have an English port of the game and no one wants to waste crazy '90s game prices on a game they can't understand :P
Super Mario RPG? Wow I didn't realize that. I'm shocked actually.
I don’t know if you’ll see this but your videos have really cheered me up when I’ve had bad days, seeing the relationship that you and your dad had and your joy when getting a new game or console
For your birthday is such a treat! Your dad really was awesome to document this stuff and it’s awesome he was also into video games and stuff as well!
Hi ,
I live in Germany.
I am born in 82.
your videos are exactly the mirror of my childhood.
what your parents recorded on video back then is just wonderful for all of us out here. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
Greetings from Germany,
Jorgo 😉
Thanks
I love how he had valid points for everything he didn't like, never hated just to hate.
Idk man the RPG/Earthbound hate was kinda outta line. As if turn based games aren't some of the oldest and tried and true kind in recorded history.
@@ishan5011 one can't help what they don't "like" everyone has different levels of dislike. I personally love RPG games but absolutely hate MOBAs. Doesn't change that League of Legends is one of the best games ever made.
@@ishan5011
If he saw some of the earlier RPGs that were played in 1st person then he probably would have understood and appreciated the journey that RPGs made.
@@westonmeyer3110It doesn’t matter the journey they made if he just doesn’t enjoy the gameplay. Some people just personally don’t like certain things
Your dad must of been the man back in the day. Wish I was an adult in the 70’s and 80’s when people actually had fun and the world wasn’t crazy haha
He also didn't like MGS how snake could snap people's neck. He thought it was too violent for a 12 year old.
Man the 90's were the best time in history to be a kid
I agree! ! Still my favorite era of games to go back to!!! AND MUSIC!!! AND MOVIES!!!
Haha I can see that!
I feel like every parent in the 90s hated yoshis island because of the crying Mario lol.
your videos are pure relaxation thank you for putting so much effort into it again
My Dad also loved Harry Shearer, and Hank Azaria, so I have no idea how he didn't enjoy it.
omg take us back, they were the best times, life was much better back then, the world is a mess now and so is the gaming industry.
I love that you show the videos that you got your lovely Christmas gifts. Your mum and dad must love you so much. Such a memorable moment!
I love these videos so much! Thanks for sharing them Tyler.
If Bart's Nightmare had at least 25% more forgiving gameplay... I would've loved it. It's just so chunky and difficult to play even to this day, lol.
When your Dad got the Sony Trinitron with the matching stand, the other Panasonic (with storage below) went into his master bedroom.
This was another great episode. Takes you back. My dad would only play sports games, but we had a lot of fun playing them together, really the only time he spent much time with me. But he thought all the other games I had were silly, kids stuff!
The Bartzilla level in BART'S NIGHTMARE is tough, probably broken even.
Just found your channel and I LOVE it! This video especially because it speaks to me. I'm probably around your fathers age and he and I were almost 100% on the same page...on almost everything he didn't like, lol. Great stuff man. Keep up the great work!
Watching your videos makes me wish I could go back and do it all over again...but with my son.
My father also had the same line of reasoning as his father. However, we only had the Super Nintendo and we constantly played Mortal Kombat, Sonic Wings, Top Gear and others.
To paraphrase that Back to the Future quote: You had BOTH the SNES and Genesis (and NES?)?? Wow, you must've been rich!
As someone who ( I know, I know) doesn't actively like the Simpsons, I had Barts nightmare when I was younger, and I absolutely loved that game.
Your Dad was right about Super mario world 2 yoshis island. The art design turned alot of us off on the game. Took me a little while before I played it and realized it was a good game. But coming from a marketing perspective he was right
hey man youre dad was and still is a absolute legend !
youtube literally needed this content.
me born in 95 in a family that wasnt the most fond of gaming, these videos are like a glimpse on an alternate universe
im a huge fan of nostalgia and retro things (80s/90s and early 2000s)
and off topic im a huge fan of the old bumfights series that started in the late 90's created by Indecline
your videos are like a wholesome version of a retro time capsule compared to the bumfight series lolol
this type of documentation needs to be shared!!!
there would have been a time where I would've been extremely jealous of you.
I'm with your dad. I could never get into turn-based games either.
I don't know how any gamer could not have liked military madness back then. There was no other game like it, and it was total fun without being overly difficult.
It was basically a spiritual successor to Famicom Wars before Advance Wars became a somewhat big thing.
Loved ❤barts nightmare miss 😢😢😢 my super Nintendo im almost 39 got it when I was 7 so many great memories 😊😊😊😊
Me and my dad always played the Simpsons at the Galaxy Theatre in San Antonio back in the day.
Your retro stories with your dad (rip) always pulls at my heart strings.
I first discovered Beethoven via SNES emulation at a friend's house one night. I was oddly drawn to it and played to completion that same night. It was indeed a terrible game, but in that "so bad you have to keep going" kind of way.
i love your dad. i wish your dad was my dad. my dad hated videogames. he used to break my games. now he's dead. i'm kinda glad.
Sorry for your loss, seems like a great man. Thanks for sharing.
For my dad it's also Super Mario RPG for the SNES. But only because he was miserly and gifted me a copy of it when we were abroad in another region. He probably was even more upset that little me already mentioned the wrong cartridge's format in the shop before.
My dad only liked a total of two-ish games when I was growing up:
1. Ms. Pac-Man
2. Donkey Kong Country (2 & 3 only)
You should consider yourself lucky, bro!
Thank you so, so much for sharing your story with your dad and all that nostalgic gaming history with us. Thanks!
I think I saw your videos originally on amazon prime video and was instantly hooked by the footage from the 90s. Cool to now find you on here. Your dad seems like a good guy.
This was a wholesome Top 10, now a Top 10 Games your dad loved but you hated
Danm u had a good azz child hood lucky to have a dad who played video games with u at all times wish I had a Father growing like that as a kid bro💯
That’s an awesome video! Glad youtube recommended to me. I’ll definitely watch more content from your channel. Thank you so much for posting
I’m with your dad on RPGs but not RTS games like Military Madness. Love those and maybe he would have loved the Advance Wars series instead? Those games are awesome!
I can’t say this enough: what a great channel. Thanks for the stories. Brings back memories of my childhood!
Watching your videos makes me want to hug my dad. I’m so sorry for your loss. Sounds like he was an amazing dad
Watching your videos after becoming a father myself recently hits differently. Thanks for making these videos
So awesome that your Dad bought you Earthbound even though he hated the rpg genre.
it's amazing how much your dad loved you.
Playing turn based RPGs and watching them is a different world
The creator of Bubsy, Mike Berlyn, just passed away yesterday at the age of 73. RIP.
Sad news! Thanks for letting me know
I love your videos, man. It makes me wish I would have recorded myself playing video games as a kid. I will make sure to do it when I have kids myself!
Fantastic video, my parents weren't into video games, but they'd always buy me, my brother/sister new consoles and games.
Super Mario RPG and Earthbound are legendary..
The way you honor your dad is so heartwarming. Love the content as well.
My first RPG was Secret of Mana and it blew me away. I managed to get pretty far without ever putting on new armor I bought because I didn't know you have to put it on. ALl my friends were flabberghasted I managed to get as far as I did without any armor XD
My list would be easy to make: every video game my dad hated. He thought video games were stupid. He didn’t understand why I wasn’t out chasing girls.
I wonder if your dad would have liked General Chaos. It's real time strategy baked into a lot of action. So awesome that his spirit is with all of us. Thank you as always for sharing.
I love how your dad had his own opinions on video games.
Come one dad, Yoshi's Island? Hehe. To each his own of course but I loved that game. RIP.
Great stuff as usual Tyler! Thanks! I’d like to say, you sound just like your pop when you joke around with your daughter… like exact replica… it’s so cool! Keep up the greatness
Super Mario RPG will always be one of my favs!!!! So Good!!!!!!!
This channel is awesome. You really capture that nostalgic feel of that era with your stories. Brings back a lot of my own memories.
I would have looked at my kids with an uncertain expression if they told me Beethoven was a good game also🤣
My dad was right there with your dad in not liking pokemon at all. 'Why do you play that pokeman?' Lol
Pops was 100% right on all accounts 😂
