At this point, I'm convinced Tyler has enough footage to last until his daughter becomes an adult and she can just take over the channel with footage that Tyler recorded of her growing up. Always love the nostalgic feel of these videos!

It's crazy to think your dad made, you experience such a wonderful childhood growing up and took care of you and your mom, and now that he passed away in a way, he still takes care of you... By giving you content that he recorded that you can use on this platform and help u make a living ❤❤❤❤ What a class act, what a complete badass father you had!!!!

@@MyRetroLife by 1993, I already got my first job. I spent most of my first paychecks of gaming and Sega CD was a big deal for me. I loved all the lightgun games it had in its small library. And the gun it used, The Justifier, was such a treat and made you actually feel like a master marksman

It's great seeing this and also Xmas traditions for others.
Here in the UK, we just open presents on Xmas day morning, the BIG presents so too speak, then in the afternoon my family would have smaller gifts, though a lot of the time they weren't small lol, but they were from the family.
    All gifts were wrapped.
But seeing a lot of videos on here from gaming channels, they say how the gifts from ''santa'' were never wrapped.
Fantastic how one day can be so different for so many.

Man... I love this. Christmas was indeed the best time for getting games, and I felt the excitement of this video to my core.
I also saw your message on Twitter about sending you Christmas pictures, and quite literally the only one I know of (but is buried at my mom's somewhere) is of me getting a Game Gear in '93. I was a Nintendo kid through and through, so getting a Sega console was picture worthy!

This video MADE my night. Oh man what a gem, totally takes me back to the magical time of the time traveling hog. I *love* when Tyler gets all meta and finds the meaining-within-the-meaning to our retro memories. I had the pre-order OST too (still have it!) and WOW did I play the piss out of that...I'm sure I broke a laser or 2 playing that every day :)

The 90s were something special. people dressed nice in public, music was amazing, movies were amazing. Pop culture was so much better. Sega company made the best consoles and the games still hold up nicely. I like the fact that you don't need the internet to download, just plug in and play. That simple

@@TheIonVain I guarantee you 99% of kids that liked video games in these old days received less MUCH less games than this kid did. I was born in 1981. Ya he was very lucky his dad was cool like that. My dad has always hated video games and never set a finger on a controller. He was definitely spoiled and lucky with all those systems and games he got as a kid. I have watched all his videos. A kid can be spoiled but not a brat. He was also unlucky to have his parents get a divorce in his formative years.... and to loose his Dad younger then alot of us.
He was also an only child which plays alot into him getting more then most of us.
I'm sorry dude it's just that spoiled has a negative connotation. Some parents like to spend more on their kids then others.

I remember Christmas of 93 being on a Saturday. Which to me as a kid, is the best day to have Christmas. Saturday morning cartoons and Christmas presents on the same day??? Doesn't get any better than that. It looks like you had a Christmas that many kids wished they had (especially kid gamers). Opening all of those games and being able to play them without a care in the world sounds like paradise. I remember my family not being able to get gifts in 93 due to money issues sadly. I remember being angry throughout the days leading up to Christmas, but then on Christmas day, my anger was gone. I learned that Christmas was about more than just gifts and just because you didn't get anything that year, doesn't mean it still isn't Christmas. We did get gifts in early January though (ironically that's when we got the Genesis). But yeah, Christmas of 93 taught me a huge lesson and I will always appreciate that. Your 2001 footage reminds me of the Christmas I had in in 2002. I got the GameCube with Sonic Mega Collection that year and my dad saw Sonic being played for the first time. it was a great time. You videos are always an entertaining watch and I like that your videos are more than just about games, but also about family. And it's always good to see a happy father and son relationship.

Man, my dad was a doctor the whole time I was growing up in the 80’s and 90’s and I never even remotely got that many games at once. I was very lucky to get 1 or 2 from mg parents, but games were too expensive of gifts for mg aunts and uncles to buy me. Sheesh! Pretty cool. I do vividly remember first seeing Sonic CD and that opening animation though on my friend’s brother’s Sega CD. I had a SNES, which was my favorite and main console, and I did have a Genesis too, mainly for the first two Sonic games, but really had no interest in a Sega CD. But when I saw Sonic CD? Oh man, it was on. I HAD to get one, and I did. I still listen to that soundtrack occasionally in my car off my phone’s library, I still have the game to play on my (now) old PS3, and I still have a copy of the actual game in its box, even though I no longer have a Sega CD. I think it’s the best Sonic game. Definitely the best music. And it’s a proper side scroller except for the special stage. But the depth with the past, present, good future, and bad future was really cool. The Sega CD has always taken a lot of crap. And I don’t think it was some definitive console or anything. But for the time, I really did like it. Even games I initially despised because I couldn’t figure them out or get past the first level, like Sewer Shark, and put down for months and didn’t play, I eventually picked back up and grew to love. The SNES was always “my” big system that I had through its entire run and had the most things for, and the NES was always the classic 8-bit console and great, but I always did love the Genesis and Sega CD for other reasons. That whole era from NES to Sega CD though was my golden age for video games. Nothing before or after has compared for me.

I'm weird I like the US theme and a few of those songs but I think the rest of the JP soundtrack edges it out a little bit. I do have the steam edition which has both definitely the way to go if you don't have a SEGA CD.

Amazing video on this game. One of my favorite classic sonic games next to Sonic 3. Btw do you know if you were able to play that japanese version of Sonic CD on a north american Sega CD? I really want to play it on my model 2 tower of power sometime, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to.

My Mommaw had that same RCA floor model tv that your aunt had in the beginning. That thing was super heavy, never had any issues, and the best part had a rockin sound system built in it!!

wow those games were not cheap back then! people today think those games were all 70 bucks and up. nope. most were 49.99 where i live and im in a major city. many snes games were 49, genesis games were 39-69 which was outrageous, nes games were 19-39. i remember my mom saved up to my surprise and got me a sega cd when it first came out. this was before scalpers and the internet, so, plenty were in stock, hah! but she got me sega cd and sonic cd and i remember the music was great. i wasnt a huge sonic fan, still not, but i liked that sonic, even if just for the music. batman returns was... a warm turd. great music! but it was just the ugly genesis version. my xmas usually netted me 2-3 new games, but heck, that was a lot. when i got a snes back then it was sensory overload. i had zelda 3, gradius 3, un squadron, final fight, sim city.. lol it was nuts. those days are gone now, we wont see days like that again. gaming today has some good hits here and there, but.. they arent like they were 30 years ago. as u said, all WAS right with the world back then. it was different. no internet, no digital nonsense, no smartphones, people had technology but still were cohesive as families.

I understand all the Criticisms with Sonic CD and why to some people it's not considered the best Sonic Game but I think Not many would argue that it is one of the more Memorable titles of the 16-bit games.

Major memories they’re seeing the title card function on those camcorders. My dad loved that function. Lol
I just watched a huge video on the Sega Saturn. I never owned it, but after seeing what it was capable of in terms of 2D, I bet that it would’ve slaughtered if it had come out in 1993 rather than CD and 32X.
I had a friend who had the tower of power, but seeing as Saturn did all that CD and 32X could do but actually fast, it has me wondering what it would’ve been like if it had come out a couple years earlier.
