- I go into where to put your 2 post lift. The placement matters for reasons that may not be immediately clear. Inspiration for the video was a viewer had a question regarding lift placement, figured it was easier to answer through video than comments section. I hope this helps.
You really help me to figure out where to place the set back from the wall from the front to the post. I admire you're style in taking the time to explain this in detail, keep up your good work.
Thanks! Glad I could help.
Lots of helpful tips and information. Great video! Thanks
Helpful video. I'm getting ready to build my shop and planning out where to put the lift. This was very helpful, thank you!
I have a small shop. When I was laying out my 2 post lift, I found my widest car and arranged it so that if the car was centered on the lift, I would have enough room to do whatever i wanted. The operation that came to mind was if I wanted to pull an axle. If the car is centered on the lift, the outside of my post arms are 27" wider than the wheels.
It worked out such that the post is 4ft off the wall. The car is 6'3" off the wall. Tool chests are 18-24" wide. So if I happen to have a toolbox parked up against the wall, the car is still 4ft and some change away from that.
Thanks Jamel, I really appreciate the measurement details. Looks like you have a great shop.
No problem. Glad I can help. Thanks! It took a while to get to this point, ultimate tinker spot. Cheers.
Great video, exactly what I was looking for. I want to install a two and a 4 post for storage and was looking for this information and visualization. Doing a 60x40 with the 40x40 section being a shop
Thanks! Sounds like it will be a beautiful space! I do wish I made it a little taller for storage. Mine is 40x40x12.
Make sure you have clearance to pull an axle shaft out. Especially on a truck axle.
Yes, there is plenty of clearance for that. As well as a cheater bar. 😆
@@Jayjam209 The paperwork that came with my lift had warnings about using cheater bars. Something about pulling and shifting the center of gravity or sliding the car on the lift. They say impact tools are safer. And thats all the excuse I needed to buy more tools. For safety.
What model lift is that ? I have a Forward lift coming , I wish I had your space , I'm only 18ft wide and 24ft long
It's a Atlas 9koh from Greg Smith equipment.
Thanks, nice shop
Thanks. Took a while to get in order. Finally starting to feel like my second home versus a big box.
What is the size of your shop? I am in the early stages of the design of my garage/shop.
40ft x 40ft x 12ft (clear). 12/2 pitch. I have a ton of lessons learned let me know if you have any other questions here or you can email me.
@@Jayjam209 Just got my footers dug yesterday! I am building my dream shop (40x60 16ft tall walls) and want to put a lift in. Good call on the clearance to the side. I am giving myself 3 ft to the post. I am looking forward to the lessons learned. I will look for a video on it and probably shoot you an email. Thanks and keep up the good work! I will likely post my stuff on my channel once it gets a little further along. I welcome any advice.
Is your lift asymmetric, appears so.
Its a symmetric lift but has 3-Stage Front Arms and 2-Stage Rear Arms. So some features of a asymmetric lift.
