Great instructions on the 2 post. I am sure you cover floor jacks and jack stands. Share with HS shop classes.

Thanks for the great video! I will check out your shop class materials too. Looks like there is lots of great stuff in there for a wannabee vehicle restorer who has retired from a desk job.
I have a question about placement of the vehicle before lifting. I am looking at a symmetric lift (posts face each other) with asymmetric arms. Some manufacturers talk about being able to do symmetric lifting (50% front/50% back) and asymmetric (30%/70%) with these types of lifts. I am still confused about what this means in practice. For example, where do I position the vehicles that I will be lifting and how do I determine placement for each one, as follows:
    1984 Porsche 944 (RWD)
    2017 Subaru Forester
    2012 Beetle
    1972 Monte Carlo
2007 Sienna van (with rusty rocker panels haha)
    2012 Ford crew cab
    1972 Celica
Also, how can I determine whether the 2 post lift that I am looking at will be able to lift all of these vehicles? I assume that the min/max of the arm length along with the placement (forward/back) will determine whether it is possible or not.
Sorry for all of the questions, but the ALI online training and reference guide don't seem to cover this. Thanks.

Regardless of the vehicle, the _weight_ needs to be symmetrically ballanced on the hoist. The arms might not be symmetrically placed, and the _appearance_ of the vehicle might not appear symmetrically placed, but the _weight_ needs to be 50/50.
It's probably safe to say that any hoist can lift any car. The contributing factor that had me pick my specific hoist for home, was that the arms were low enough to fit _under_ my vehicles, all of which are lowered (though I do have to air up my '61 Chevy to do so).

    Fantastic explanation.
2 posts are getting cheaper for the DIYer to buy.
How would you position a big heavy 4x4, like a Mitsubishi Shogun/Pajero or a Range Rover?
There's a lot of weight with the engine, gearbox and diffs?
Again, brilliant video and love watching your videos.

i woukd try to estimate where the center of balance would be, then lift it bit and see what it does and how stable it appears.

@@GregWellwood Cheers. Just wondering if you had experience with big 4x4s.
      Thanks for your answer.

The kids at the school I'm at love 4-wheeling; we lift many crew-cab, longbed, and lifted 4x4 trucks.

What a bummer! The car looked like a Mercedes SL on the thumbnail, but turned out to be another ugly American car.

I took my bifocals off and squinted real hard, but couldn't see the SL. I did get a headache, though.... (grin)
