The "twist flip" is something the top players have been doing for a while. I'd say it's biggest use is being able to turn almost any first touch into an air dribble while regular air dribbles are wildly first touch dependant
Same. I started about two years ago and randomly did it while practicing mechanics. I was like, "I wonder if this has a name and if its useful". I guess that means I'm a pro. *looks over at Plat badge*
I see it as dodging while inputting different direction during the duration of the flip. We all who like to monkey around with controls do this a lot, but may not always convert it into something noticeably useful.
Just started the video and saw the twist flip, this is also something I realised a few pros doing in videos and I’ve being trying to get good at it too recently, really useful for really any awkward follow up hits of the wall
For the twist flip (answering all the commenters who are having trouble) It is a diagonal flip canceled. Then you have to hold diagonal in the original direction (so top left for diagonal left flip) to execute the actual mechanic. So basically think of the circle or cross that is your analog stick. You would jump, start your flip in the left direction for a left flip, go in the exact opposite way to CANCEL the flip, then you go back to the original way you push your stick for the flip. So your analog stick is going in 3 positions during this flip. For left: top left, bottom right, top left. For right: top right, bottom left, top right. try that in training and let me know how it goes! - JaM
Once again, Wayton proves he is one of the best RL content creators. Criminally under subbed. Keep up the great work! I’m always excited to see your new videos
Yo! I was the streamer who gave you advice in pogostuck. Just wanted to say i have actually watched your videos before and they really helped me push to plat, thanks alot. I hope beating pogostuck went well.
The twist flip and the drop down shot are things I've learned by accident from just practicing my mechanics. The way I learned the twist flip is by just jumping off the side walls in free play and cancelling my flip. Doing this, as well as holding directional air roll can help you pull it off more consistently and with more accuracy. Hope this helps someone!
He had to have either deleted it or made it up himself making fun of the comments because i went to the bottom of the comment section and hit Ctrl+F, the comment is nowhere to be found.
Ok so I'm going to explain how the twist flip works for Wayton: The way it works is that when you cancel and flip you're essentially creating momentum and speed but you're not moving that much when compared to a regular flip (this is of course due to the stall factor) the unstall rights the car so that your nose is facing upwards where the ball should be. Sometimes you can also get an extra soft touch with the hood of your car when you are flip canceling. For those who want to learn it the way to put it is simple: you do a normal front flip but stall (which is reversing the joystick in whatever direction you originally flipped in IMMEDIATELY after you flip it). The stall is not a perfect back stall however, it is more of a back diagonal right or back diagonal left depending on which airroll you are using. Then you boost while flipping, airroll so you don't hit the ground on your side and powerslide to keep your momentum (this is on the ground speed flipping). *Sorry for the essay but hopefully this helped some of yall understand it and maybe even help you guys pull it off*
It looks like you put a lot of effort in with friends to get footage of the different situations, that's some next-level commitment to RL content! Great job!
100% ive been doing the “twist flip” ever since i started trying to learn to speed flip, its just a messed up speed flip. but dont get me wrong it is useful in a lot of situations
I use that dropdown catch all the time as a way to catch a fast moving ball while in an aerial and turn it into an air dribble. It gives you another option instead of being forced to double tap. Catch the ball on a front wheel, diagonal air roll away from it to get it traveling the same velocity as you, flip around underneath it, and it's stuck on your nose. I've got a couple of videos using that on my channel.
Wayton, holy shit you're popping off. I havent watched much rl content on youtube in so long, i subscribed to you when u had like 40-60k subs, and YOU'RE AT 210K RN. your content has been super good w/ good quality, it makes me happy how big you're getting. 1M soon.
it's interesting that you don't hold one of your bumpers when starting the twist flip. imo it's way easier to just push your stick forward when flipping + it's a perfect diagonal flip so it ends up being more predictable and consistent
He kinda explained it. It is a diagonal flip + cancel (holding air roll while cancelling) then release cancel but still holding air roll, your car will do an akward move but that is the basics of it. Its hard as fuck
Couldn't agree more with all of these points. Especially the Musty and Wavedashing ones. I Wavedash all the time in neutral positions on the field so I always have some sort of momentum or short burst to catch the opponents off guard if the ball comes my way. To add on to it, wavedash dribbles are very underused. If perfected, they can change the direction of the ball faster than any other method, without even losing the dribble. It lets you cut the ball and flick it in the same possession.
I found this video very insightful and helpful. First of all I've been trying to implement the twist flip into my game after seeing so many other people do it, but couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Same thing with the drop down catch, though I've had some success with that. I would disagree with you slightly on your application of wave dashes. I think they are great for recoveries and have some application in dribbles, but when going around the field the diagonal flip cancel (musty kickoff flip) is way more efficient than a wave dash. Even in your example about doing a straight front flip and hitting the ball with your wheels - if you did a diagonal flip cancel you would get the same effect as a wave dash, but be faster to the ball potentially beating the other player to it. Keep up the good work sir!
I always thought "the glue" is referring to the simple concept of maintaining ball control on the nose of the car while in the air, not really a specific mechanic.
The aerial fake / tummy bump is so OP. I do it all the time, especially when you notice things changing up in front of you, instead of banging the ball, just rotate, tummy bump to keep possession and carry on upfield :)
alot of people use the twist flip when doing a dbl flip reset! So they fake the double by uncancelling last second and using the pop up a bit earlier as you’re showing as a pop. Really useful lol
The twist flip is so so satisfying to do, 'cause it flings your car up and suddenly you have all the freedom to go where you wanna. Also easily the most efficient way to get a flip reset after flipping... if done right.... which is hard. Really hard.
I already master all of these mechanics, but u helped me understand more reasons why to use them. Thank you, great video which I will recommend to others😄
I've been doing the drop down touches forever, but it developed naturally as a way to keep the ball close when leaving the defensive zone (as opposed to booming away possession). Transitioning it into an offensive move is a great idea! Now I just gotta master the catch at the end...
The meta for 2021 is the “TH-cam Meta,” where all new f2p users start trying really difficult mechanics they see pros use. This will stunt their game sense growth. However, they will hit a singularity where they turn into mechanical gods. They will fly around the map doing whatever the hell they want. Ball chasing? Don’t matter. Over commits? Don’t matter. Bumping teammates? Don’t matter. Your opponents won’t ever touch the ball, and neither will your RL boomer teammate, as you air dribble above and around the field until you decide to put it on target.
There’s also the new “Breezi Pop”. Which you dribble then jump like you’re gonna wave dash under the ball and right before your back wheels hit the ground you backflip and immediately cancel your flip so the nose of your car pops the ball into the air. You can do a lot after since the pop can be unexpected and you recover almost immediately since you’re already on the ground
I've been subbed for a while my dude! Definitely the most underappreciated RL content creator. Best too imo, I'm GC in North America would love to through down with you someday. Keep the content coming! So appreciated

The twist flip came naturally to me while trying to learn an become more consistent with airdribles when I was gold. I never really thought It made that much of a difference
Hmm, this looks familiar :D Great video! I don't know if I fully agree with all of these but it always depends on what level of meta we're talking about. I'm sure wall reads will get better but I don't think this year will be any different than the last year in that regard. Musty flicks would be my number 1. Ironically last year I thought about but completely discarded the idea but it just allows flicks to abuse gravity so you can get extra power if you and the ball are dropping. Wave dashes I did already mention last year, but I don't think they can just replace any dodge to get closer. I do think there are some uses left that I've never/almost never seen people do so I'm gonna have to release those and see if they can become meta.
I watch alot of Squishy and I saw him using that twist flip to transition it into a air dribble or a powerful touch, so I looked in slomo exactly what he did and now i'd say i'm good and consistent at it. This was like 5 or 6 months ago. Learning speedflip first definitely made learning it a lot easier.
