I hover around C2-C3 and the way you were showing how not to do the reset and double taps at the end is exactly how I've been going about them so I appreciate you explaining how I need to just simplify things
Yessirr It's because I've been there before so I know exactly how it is! The easiest way is to just keep it simple, including movements and inputs :) Glad this helped!
I've been much more aware of my mindset recently in-game (and irl). When I'm confident and focusing on efficient movement, boost management, and patience I win way more. Lots of good pointers here to implement
GC2 here - Work on your double taps. They will teach you everything you need to know about how your car moves + wall reads + boost management. Work on catching the ball from the sky, dribbling the ball, then flicking it. That'll get you most of the control you need. Most other mechanics after you learn how your car moves become SUPER easy to learn just from prior knowledge of your cars movement. Great video 10/10
GC2 here, absolutely agreed with your comments and definitely an amazing video. I am literally the type of annoying player he mentioned. Not very mechanical, cant even double reset, let alone reset musty, i keep it simple but fast play more 50s, patience on defense but constantly close distance to the ball immediately reacting to my opponents actions. And all that has been by making efficient simple moves cause i haven't built that muscle memory enough in awkward positions for flashy mechanics.
@@RobertoMartinez-lp1pk I've been getting back into the game after not playing for some time. I've started playing since the launch day of rocket league, and hearing the sentence "Not very mechanical, cant even double reset, let alone reset musty" is crazy lol

Fantastic video. Love the use of input efficiency as a way to describe minimizing extra unnecessary movements that hinder all of your play at higher levels. One thing I will add is that all of this can be implemented slightly easier in your training regimen with slow mo. My brain is very visual, and the game speed at 100% sometimes prevents me from recognizing the input that sent my car in an undesirable direction versus my cars initial orientation. Slowed down to 50%(I gradually increased, but still warm up to this day on 75%-80% if I'm feeling sluggish in my input efficiency) at first allowed me to understand just what orientation my car looked versus what input actually was needed.
Yess genius idea I didn’t even think of this while recording. Slow mo is another very under utilized tool within the game it allows you to really feel your momentum and notice how each touch affects the vehicle and vice versa
@@JoshBoomawell said, I utilized the feature for 10 minutes before a match on 70 speed and every touch I made had purpose. It helps but players also need to have intention while training too so you don’t train the wrong way and solidify that as your normal way of playing!

The advice in this video highlights the fact that you can only improve so far just by cruising through ranked. International practice is a must for improving.
So just a little story that goes hand in hand with what this guy is trying to teach you. I was in spooklukes GCR about 2 years ago now, they got me focused ENTIRELY on no spinning and all slow, efficient movement and recoveries and correct decision making. Which helped my 1s game drastically, went from D1 to D3 in about a week or so. BUT it completely tanked my 2s and 3s rank. I was upset but I kept pushing and practiced what they taught me for a WHILE. After about a couple months I was only peaking C2 in 2s, C1 in 3s and 1s. This had me distraught. I felt slow and non mechanical, so I decided to work on my mechs, got good at basic flip resets and ceiling shots and double taps but I was still so STUCK in that slow mindset. This persisted til 2023. So I took a break, a LONG break, about 7-8 months or so, even sold my pc. Eventually I couldn’t hold it no more and bought a new pc and started playing again. Over those months I discovered players like dark(?) and zen which got me really inspired to try and be more mechanical. So I jumped back in and said f it and started training my mechs even harder. About a month later, I got gc in 2s, c3 in 3s and I stopped playing so much 1s. What changed ? I’d finally broken that mindset of being slow and methodical. That playstyle just DOES NOT WORK these days, players are better and more mechanical than ever. I became faster, ballchasier, and more mechanical while erasing the idea that everything needed to be well thought out. I retained the carefulness and correct decision making from being slow, while taking my mechanics and speed to the next level, which in turn, took me to the next level in arguably the hardest season to get gc in we’ve ever seen (last season) Long story short, back in the day, it was a lot easier to get higher level just waiting for mistakes, but players are better now, you NEED mechanics, they don’t have to be the flashiest in the world, but they are needed and necessary to rank up. Do not let anyone tell you different, they are liars, I experienced it and I figured it out and you can too! Kudos to this guy for giving yall the right info! Love the vid!
idek what to say what a motivating story and you have even inspired me you can figure all of this out on your own and I want all these players to know that! Glad you enjoyed the video and hope it helped appreciate the kind words and the support
great video, i thought one thing one was funny, also made me realize this was advice for higher level players HE USED A QUADRUPLE FLIP RESET AS AN EXAMPLE OF BAD INPUT EFFICIENCY 🤣
with my 2400+ hours on this game, i pay attention to when the ball slows down and my momentum. For me to get the touches i want, i just slow down a little bit more than a little, and boost through the ball in the direction of space(where no one but me or my team can get the ball).
"slow down a little bit more than a little" meaning, slowing down more than your understanding of a little. Basically slowing down to the point where the ball is faster than you for you to boost the ball where you can catch up faster to the ball to make a quicker chance in direction.
genuinely so true I peaked c3 in 1s a while ago and thought huh, maybe if i learn air roll Id hit gc, im d3 now and youd laugh at the amount of spins i do for a simple aerial lmao. this marks change xD
what youre referring to as doing the dish? i think is for worse players who dont have perfect game sense yet, its easier to read ball and cars separately and just think about touches as hits rather than control and causality. you have to trust the extent of your mechanics you have consistency with, and for many that is the problem. i am guilty of it myself, i try my best to get good but I prefer pushing my mechs too often and it leads to bad consistency and bad win rate. i don't have the same free hours as i once did when i hit gc2 to train a lot before casual before ranked. now stuck in c1-c2 at best.
I’m pretty sure I noticed you tapping powerslide whenever you’re getting a reset, do you think it’s necessary to do it as you climb to a higher level of gameplay?
Players are capable of grabbing resets at any pace & momentum this includes while accelerating/not power slide tapping so it’s not an absolute necessity. Just a small tip for players needing a bit more control
Mentality wise, what is a good way to enforce playing with intent during a game? While I have learned about it through a coaching session a while back, I haven’t fully learned how to implement it into my gameplay (and commentary while recording).
Basically what this means is doing things with purpose. I train with purpose as well as play the game and break my opponents down with purpose. You can ask yourself this when you watch your replays back. Try to be devil’s advocate to your own reasoning. Ask yourself; why am I hitting the ball here? What am I trying to gain? Then try to find a better option, if there isn’t one then your decision there was most likely a good one
Very simple answer - Hours put into practicing. I would think I was retarded after only hitting doubles 5/10 times after 2 months of practicing. But after another 3 months I was hitting them on auto pilot, 9/10 times. Getting consistent takes time, it just looks easy for him cause you haven’t seen the build up but there’s no shortcut.
Yeah so I have around 9000 hours into the game and have been playing for 8 years. Long answer is this video, Short answer would be I put hundreds of hours into messing that mechanic up and realizing what corrections I actually have to make. At this point it is muscle memory for me. Meaning I don't really have to think about it sometimes
great video. It would be cool to see a video on how to coach yourself, i.e. how to critisize your own replays and in game decision analysis when you mess p or do something good.
I'd argue they are super important it's good to have 1:1 for air and and ground deadzones but usually controller and dodge are based off what's comfortable and doesn't have stick drift
Nice video man, just hard to be input efficient when my car control isn't even there, but i guess in that case the play like a brick tip is great for me
Hey man, i play RL on console. What stuff is there that i need to learn another way since you can’t have mods and change the game the way you want? I'm having trouble at correcting my car after getting the flip reset, Zen literally gets his car in an upwards position almost instantly while I can’t even properly use the reset after doing it
Sounds like you have a lack of car control you definitely can do it on console I was able to as well just takes ton of practice! You don’t need mods you just gotta grind it’s all pattern recognition and muscle memory so trust me keep practicing. If you truly think it’s holding you back I’d say save up for a PC
Im badically a noob in this game, I'd say I'm on silver level and watching you play and explain these things really amazes me. Wish I could play like that and impress people im playing with, with these tricks. But seems waay out of reach for me. 😂
the only thing keeping me away from ssl. ive felt this problem will never go away. i cant seem to fast aerial without being inaccurate, and i get a bad flip when im trying to recover or go for a shot too often.
I’d recommend learning to take your finger off the stick more. People forget the beauty of RL is having complete & total control over the vehicle. If you feel those things are preventing your push to SSL then there’s still some more input efficiency to be done there. Poor kickoffs, poor shooting, & inaccurate aerials can also be caused by over correction. This can be fixed by not touching your stick once you’ve already done the correction you need. I’d highly recommend you go watch your own replays or ask an SSL to watch and see what’s causing your issue
As a tip to retain view time you should probably leave out the ums and pauses / jump cut to when ur talking, it lowers the impact of your message and disengages viewers
I firmly believe that time will fix a lot of these errors. A lot of players such as myself didnt have these videos to help players. But we are all human and there is a special power that we have and repetition and time will fix and make everything naturally more efficient to achieve what we all want to do. Just keep playing! Good video though
It’s a normal thing, pro players & myself change them up based on feeling every so often. I drift between settings because each type of settings present different benefits. It’s also one of the single ways I keep the game refreshing after playing it this long
People 7k views but yall can't sub come on he's putting a lot of time and work into these sub to the guy(just so you know he didn't pay me to say this I'm just surprised that he has way more views that subs).
I appreciate the call for support but I’m obviously trying to grow the channel & I’m prepared for however long that will take but thank you for subbing 🙏
I play claw grip on my controller. I’ve been holding a controller like that since N64 because my hands were too small as a child. It became really natural to me even though I had no idea people learned the grip for competitive advantages in various games. So my index finger is actually pressing the Circle/Traingle/Square while my thumb presses jump
Well especially when you’ve already put the ball into score-able position there’s absolutely no need to do more I coach low ranks up to GC3s and they all miss open nets or simple shots because they want to force force force
I was the exact same way on my way up to SSL but when you play the game this long I finally realized I can be way more deadly of a player if I’m just efficient with my movement overall
It’s because I’ve been messing around with driver priorities through MSI interrupts & overclocked ps4 controller so my game has really been performing well & yeah this is a raw unedited I just straight up cut it up lol I can prove it to ya next video if you’d like
I was the same way but when I started playing in comp like RLCS quals/scrims and stuff it made me realize it saves so much more boost & puts way more intention behind your touches
@@pavimentononliscio That's actually the whole point to the video. If we're talking input efficiency in reality I'm just correcting the car to face upwards again after the flip animation has finished. This way I can then make the correction for the bounce off the wall. Does that make sense? If you pay attention to the controller overlay and even play it in slow motion you can see exactly what I am pressing. I'm essentially managing my momentum after the flip. It's basically a type of flip manipulation which I'll be making a video on soon!

@@JoshBooma Thank you!! As a 1s player this is my biggest struggle!
How do you do those double/triple resets so easily? Quick explanation would be cool. But either ways interesting Video.
Yes I can definitely do that thanks for the suggestion it will probably be the next cideo
Quick question, how crucial are optimal controller settings (dodge/controller dead zone + air/ground sensitivity) to input efficiency?
I'd argue they are super important it's good to have 1:1 for air and and ground deadzones but usually controller and dodge are based off what's comfortable and doesn't have stick drift
@@JoshBooma thank you
Nice video man, just hard to be input efficient when my car control isn't even there, but i guess in that case the play like a brick tip is great for me
Exactly if it’s because you lack car control then playing brick can really help you realize how efficient you can be at your level currently.
yooooooo wow emazing content , im from russia and i didint see same advises on ru YT , thanks you ,maide now i can get daimond rank.)
Is square your powerslide? I notice you press square when touching ball in air just before getting flip reset, is there a reason behind that?
Yes it is and yes I explained it in my flip reset videos
Hey what decal are you using? Great vid bytw
Ochazuke
@@Justme-jp8ih yeah tbh I’ve been playing the game since 2015 with 10k plus hours so my understanding is gonna be a lot deeper than most 😅
what are your cam settings they look very good
I put them in my most recent video!
ty@@JoshBooma
Can you show your settings? Like all the sensitivities, dead zones, etc.
I have a settings video on the channel friend!
the only thing keeping me away from ssl. ive felt this problem will never go away. i cant seem to fast aerial without being inaccurate, and i get a bad flip when im trying to recover or go for a shot too often.
I’m well aware but I appreciate the constructive criticism
What type of aerial should I be doing I don’t know if I should use free roam, left or right aerial im only plat 3 rn.What should I do?
You shouldn’t really need aerials at that rank but wouldn’t hurt to learn a directional air roll unless you’re comfortable with free air roll
@@JoshBooma I don’t really know how to use directional but everyone i know used to use free airoll so I don’t know if i should switch or not
liked the video i agree and also see insights thank you
I firmly believe that time will fix a lot of these errors. A lot of players such as myself didnt have these videos to help players. But we are all human and there is a special power that we have and repetition and time will fix and make everything naturally more efficient to achieve what we all want to do. Just keep playing! Good video though
Subbed bro let’s go
Hey man, I have a proboem when I just cant control my car, can u help me with that?
Uhhh I cannot sorry.
should i use cross, square, or circle deadzone?
I personally don’t use any controller supported dead zones. I choose to play with it disabled as pros back in the day stated it causes input lag
i feel like i cant get a sweet spot with my camera settings, any tips? or is this a normal thing.
BANGERR!!!
👍
Yea it helped good video
Make a video on important recovery mechanics for SSL.. or your story of how you reached SSL
For sure I gotchu
yo. i have not ranked up for the past two years since i hit diamond 3 versing grand champions.
Franticcartoon was in that clip at 12:55 thats sick bro
Yeah someone mentioned that earlier haha I used to scrim Frantic a lot back in the day when we were both competing for RLCS qualifiers
@@JoshBooma that dude is so funny 🤣 y'all should colab, Even though y'all have different styles
@@PlusheesRl yeah that’d be a sick collab one day for sure
Can someone explain to me how at 6:04 is he able to press all 4 buttons (circle, square etc...) at the same time ?
I play claw grip on my controller. I’ve been holding a controller like that since N64 because my hands were too small as a child. It became really natural to me even though I had no idea people learned the grip for competitive advantages in various games. So my index finger is actually pressing the Circle/Traingle/Square while my thumb presses jump
Weird question, Can you be a coach? I'm diamond and i wanna be able to reach gc or champ, also learn good freestyling
I actually am a coach already 😭you should stop by next stream or join the discord if you’re curious about the coaching packages
@@JoshBooma one problem, I dont have money-
@@Gggjbdutwbbogw you can win free coaching as well!
20:05
That's so fckn true, especially for me 😭 I'm too anxious letting the ball do the work for me
Well especially when you’ve already put the ball into score-able position there’s absolutely no need to do more I coach low ranks up to GC3s and they all miss open nets or simple shots because they want to force force force
Can you make a settings video Ty!
I did already th-cam.com/video/1U3UEd0_cAY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IKydEy0ZR3FoRrV8
thank you bro for this vid

What was the decal at the start of vid

Me hard stuck c2 grappling with the fact that you shouldn’t air roll through the dribble
i have incredible mechanics but i still lose cause i havent focused on "playing the game good" but rather learning hard mechanics for the fun of it
I was the exact same way on my way up to SSL but when you play the game this long I finally realized I can be way more deadly of a player if I’m just efficient with my movement overall
mind me asking how many hours you've got mate?
I’ve been playing Rocket League for 8 years & 9K hours
sheesh, i've been playing since release as one of my 2 main games and have only clocked 3.5k.. o-o
that's wild!
@@JoshBooma
Does anyone else feel like the areal car control feels way spedup
It’s because I’ve been messing around with driver priorities through MSI interrupts & overclocked ps4 controller so my game has really been performing well & yeah this is a raw unedited I just straight up cut it up lol I can prove it to ya next video if you’d like
What decal is that
Ochazuke
Personally I feel much more comfortable using airroll during resets and airdribble, I feel more controlled
I was the same way but when I started playing in comp like RLCS quals/scrims and stuff it made me realize it saves so much more boost & puts way more intention behind your touches
@@JoshBooma got it, in only c1 with a gc1 peak so I have a ways to go lolll

@@Ar1asXD I have a video on my channel!
1:53 WTF is this flick? Are we even playing the same game?
You mean the hit to the backboard? Haha just a ton of hours and practice friend!
@@JoshBooma No, how the car moves, if I do it my car continues to rotate
@@JoshBoomayour car does a motion, then completely stops it and then it changes completely, it seems like you're playing a different game
@@JoshBooma thanks, a flip manipulation video it's just what I need to get better in aerials
360 subs and bro puts real effort into this 💀💀
Hahaha we’ll get there one day homie 🫡
I feel like my air roll is a lot slower than other people
Could either be you lack the quick micro-corrections you need or could be a momentum issue. Are you saying directional or free?
