Everyone should own a roadster - I'm obviously biased, but they are hilarious fun. They're not modern day fast, but they are such a massive smile maker regardless. I daily mine all year round and even in winter they are very usable.
Loved the video “ ANDY ‘ as an owner of a 3’2 roadster convertible (2004 ) great information “ I’m 78 years now and still like going out in my AUDI “ happy days yours AL 🚗👍👍👍
After waiting a week for a just not put in with the rest of the parts center pipe in the downtube back exhaust system, we're promised this AM, overnighted. Then it's 4-5 days / 2K miles back in the brand new to me 113K '01 roadster w. fat 5 & baseball. See my grin. It's been great to see your work. It's really added to the anticipation, the best part. Thank you.
Thanks for posting this Andy. I bit the bullet and bought a new hood for my 2001 Roadster after trying and failing to re-glue my detaching rear window effectively. The new one has a much improved window-to-fabric attachment design that gives me confidence it won't eventually come loose again, the fear of which is what steered me away from a second-hand hood. The cost of the new hood was $700 delivered (purchased via eBay), and that was for the more expensive OEM Sonnenland fabric, which actuall seems reasonable. The estimate I got for having installed was $1800, and the installer was booking out into Summer of 2023. He actually encouraged me to do it myself, and said he could give me free advice if a I hit a problem. So, I will be taking on the install myself over the TT's winter hibernation with a couple of TH-cam videos, a set of instructions that include 56 steps and color photographs, and my Bentley Manual as my guides. What could possibly go wrong?😉
@@andychargerI've watched yours and everything else I could find on the topic! It is just the fabric and glass part that I am replacing, so all the mechanicals stay in place. Mine is also one of the somewhat rare 2001 225 Roadsters that came from the factory without the power mechanism (it says "power roof delete" on the original window sticker - apparently it was a supplier issue), so that somewhat simplifies the job I hope. While I've got it disassembled I plan on replacing the belt for the rear wind deflector which has just started acting up. Amazingly, neither you, Parrot Bros , BWS TT nor Car Chris has a video on that topic! Here is an opportunity for you to beat those guys to the punch with some original content and help me out in the process!
Yes USA prices are quite mad. Have you seen some of the USA based TTs I have covered elsewhere on the channel? I also did a video on the difference in prices between USA and UK! Thanks for the comment!
Great review Andy!. I think that all of your videos are very informative. I love my 3.2 roadster and think that it is the most fun car that I have ever owned. It is virtually bullet proof, but as you pointed out, it does require regular maintenance.
Hi Steve and thanks for your kind words on my videos! I try to make them informative and interesting. Your valuable feedback is great encouragement to continue! I have a roadster hibernation video coming up. Is your 3.2 going to bed for Winter?
@@andycharger yes I will be storing it in another two weeks until April. Winter in Canada is not enjoyable in the TT. My 2006 has just turned 27,000 klms (17,000 miles!!!) I have owned it for 2 years and love it.
Great review Andy, love my roadster, was going to take it off the road this winter but decided I’ll keep it running, will miss it too much 😂, I possibly would consider a swap for a coupe in the future tho possibly
Hi Peter! Thanks for your kind words. Definitely keep it on the road if you enjoy driving it. I am lucky enough to have my 3.2 coupe for winter time so will put the roadster to bed. I am doing a video right now on hibernating your TT for winter which should be out in the next week or 2!
I'm a happy owner of a 2002 225 hp quattro roadster manual with very low miles, and am considering the addition of a 3.2 quattro roadster auto. The 3.2 doesn't have any service records with rather high miles in excess of 170k miles. While the test drive was nice, the auto had some weird shift points when changing between auto, paddle shift or to auto stuck. How concerned would you be with no records of timing chain repairs and high mileage auto? Thanks for your videos!
Hey Chris. Thanks for your comment. I would take a code reader that can read the potential chain stretch before buying. It’s a bit of a lottery. Chains will cost £1500 upwards to replace. Or you could factor that into the price on the likelihood they need doing. I guess it all come down to price. I bought one at 107k without chains being done and without checking. Lucky for me they are ok but I have a new video out today all about the 3.2 VR6 engine and the issues behind it! There is also a video on my channel all about reading the chains. I hope that helps 👍

Great video, I'm lucky enough to own a coupe and a roadster. Both 225 BAM Quattro's. The coupe has done double the miles and is way smoother and feels quicker, not sure why. They handle differently too, the Roadster is lowered, stiffer and with bigger rims (fat five's) much more fedback, and a lot bumpier of course., The coupe feels like a luxury saloon in comparison. I love both of them and wouldn't part with either. Even though they cost me a tidy penny to keep on the road as there is always something going bloody wrong with them.
Thanks James. Totally agree on the handling and ride of the coupe. The problem is you cant take the roof off it in Summer! I love both of mine and feel very priveleged to own and drive both. Thanks for your comment on the video!
Hi. My cars are both standard and I have no plans on doing away with my PCV system at this time. There are a few videos on PCV delete and should you do it. I believe Bryn from BWSTT did a good explanation on it last year and if you should or should not do it. My thoughts are that the car came with those components from the factory all those years ago and I am sure Audi knew what they were doing, based on the £££ they invest in research. So removing is not something I would do personally.

Hi Hugh and thanks for your comment. You are correct. I found this out only yesterday. At one point there was a "supply chain" issue that lead to some TTs being delivered without power hoods and they were "power roof delete" models and badged appropriately. I totally agree on the manual top. When I replaced mine I had the struts disconnected to access certain components for installation and putting it up and down without the electrics was actually very easy!
