    I like those rubber gaskets. My 09g transmission has one and there is no silicone to scrape. If you ever take your car to a shop, make sure they know not to use *any* silicone.

    I just bought a 2005 Jetta first series from a private owner. I don't think they've had any Transmission Service done it has about a hundred 150,000 miles on it the transmission is starting to slip just a little bit in reverse. I've heard if it's the transmission has never done don't do it. How do I know if the fluid is low?

  • @Ifixitagain

    No VCDS? No time to get the laptop out? You can simply point an IR thermometer at the bottom of the ATF sump and the temp is the same as VCDS. I tested this

    Thanks for sharing Ryan. I just bought an 02 TDI Jetta and I've been hearing the 01m is junk. What do you think? And I hear some people are running there transmission/engine with the cooler line disconnected in order to do a flush. They run it until the fluid is gone or foamy. The theory is it drains all the fluid including the torque converter. What do you think about flushing like this? Do you have any tips to improve this method?

    Hello, excuse me, it could be possible to request a technical advice? See I have a vw Jetta MK4 automátic transmission 01M. The car suddenly fails on 3rd shift the check engine light is on. This is at 20/30 minutes to start. After that I normally park the car. Next day I start the car it's normally shifts, low speed no more than 3rd shift, I may clear the check engine light, car works perfectly. In your opinion what's the cause? ATF? shift solenoid? Also this failure started after a bad technician no trusted tune up the car, never gone again. Thanks for your help, I am desperately seeking help. 4 speed gearbox

    • @RyanVWDiesel
      @RyanVWDiesel  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Shekh Mostofa Abedin you could fill it from the top side. Take a long piece of hose (5/8" maybe" that will fit over the fill plug and sake it down from the top and slide it over the fill plug. Stick a funnel in the other end of the hose top side and fill it up that way.

    hi Ryan im from venezuela, i actually own 2 2007 bora"s 2.0, the mexicans ones with the 01m automatic gearbox, one of them have this trouble: when you start driving normally the gearbox stays only in 3rd gear, no matter how slow or fast are you going and if you press the gas pedal it stays in 3rd gear does not go down to 2nd or 1st gear or up to 4th, only 3rd and sometimes it changes the gears normally but almost all the time it runs only in 3rd, this one have 97555 miles.

    Great video! By far the most professional I've seen yet. I had a question... Since I dont have vad com or any computer to read the temp of the fluid, could I just use a non contact ir thermometer to read the temp? also would it hurt my transmission if I add to much or too little fluid? Last question... If my car is on and running and I remove the plug and not the fill tube should any fluid come out If done correctly?

    I have NEVER changed the manual (6 speed) transmission fluid in my '03 GTI VR6, and have had the car for 18 years thus far! In the manual, and when calling various VW dealerships throughout the years, i've been told that I never need to change the manual tranny fluid in this car, as it is 'goof for the lifetime of the vehicle'! The car is garaged, and has only 105,000 miles on it. The manual transmission still shifts like new after all this time. This car has been so amazingly reliable and solid, that I feel I can easily get 200K miles or more out if it, which means i'll probably have it another 15 years or so! Should I be concerned with ever changing the transmission fluid?

    • @RyanVWDiesel
      @RyanVWDiesel  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Cody Farmer You can measure out what you removed and add that same amount back in and call it good enough. Not the best way, but people do it. Another option is to get a non contact ir thermometer and use that to take the temp reading of the pan. I think its a degree to 2 lower than what the fluid temp is usually. Its one of those things where its not technically the 'right' way to do it, but it will work just fine.

    Hi Ryan. I live in Venezuela. I own a mexican Jetta (Bora) with a 01M transmission with 93,000 miles. I wanna change the fluid but really scares me. According to the manufacturer this should not be done. I fear that when changing fluids cause major damages. I dont speak english very well... could you tell me how to avoid damaging the transmission when changing fluid? Thanks

    • @RyanVWDiesel
      @RyanVWDiesel  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the transmission is in good shape it will not hurt anything. if the transmission is not in good shape it will die regardless. But this definitely prolongs the life of them.

    • @RyanVWDiesel
      @RyanVWDiesel  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** you could drain all of the fluid into a container, measure it, and then add that same amount back in. Or you could drain it all out and add fluid back in then use an infrared thermometer to check the temperature of the pan and use that instead of vcds. The pump I'm using is just from a, local auto parts store.

    Ryan, I have a 2000 VW Cabrio. I drained the transmission (auto) changed the filter/seal, put it back together and followed the instructions given. Ran the car, check plug level, added a bit more fluid until drips stopped. Took car for a spin, car would jolt into gear and in some case when at a stop, would not move. Bought it back, added more fluid and slowly but surely it came back to life. This morning, drove off, had a problem when the gear jumped in causing the front wheels to spin. After the car heated up, all is well, waiting to see if I have the same problem again after it's cooled down. So far, have added about 3.5 liters of fluid. Any suggestion if this still happens?

      about 5 qts for a fluid and filter. maybe 4 for just a drain and fill. I like to use Valvoline MaxLife Dex/Merc in them. it meets the VW spec and is good fluid and can be found locally.
