This was literally the first game I ever bought. I was 8, must’ve just asked my Nan whilst shopping and she had no clue and tbh niether did I. Greatest decision I ever made. There is something about this game, the New York City style and all the interiors you can go inside plus the combat mechanics. I personally think this is better than GTA V

I thought Pegerino doesn’t betray Niko in the deal ending. In my view, when you go for the deal ending, I thought Pegerino would be aware of how Dimitri betrayed Niko and Pegerino would be against Dimitri for that, but not after Dimitri kills Pegerino first.

If you pay attention to Pegorino he's kinda unpredictable and would throw anyone useful under bus if the chance was given. Take Ray for example, he was considered a good earner but Jimmy saw him as a threat since he was always thinking ahead which is what got him killed. Niko is way more dangerous than Ray so it'd be inevitable that He'd send someone after Niko regardless

It’s interesting how this game handles revenge, with Darko Niko feels empty but he (and the player) are satisfied in finally taking down Dimitri. Then again ones a harmless junkie while the other posed a huge threat so there’s a practical side to it.
@@MrApoorvaSingh753 that was the point, the guilt and depression already swallowed Darko so much, that he literally died off of overdose on heroin later on the news, so the implication is, just as Darko says, "I'm lost!", he already is gone by any means necessary and longer. Also, Niko realizes that nothing would be achieved if he kills Darko right away on the specific scenario, all of his friends dies way too long ago, and I doubt his late friends would want him to even kill Darko, seeing Darko slowly die was actually way more satisfying, which is why I also spared, to make him realize more about his mistakes. This is why I like GTA IV sm, because your choices actually will actually give you a whole lot of impact on your morals and shit, and I really did learn a lot from the game series (unironically) more than from school, LMAO 😐 Also, if you notice, in comparison, Niko and Roman already have way better lives than Darko by circumstances, Darko on the other hand is still having such a hard time to even comply to everyday causes, so the comparison of their livelihoods are already out of hand, and Niko isn't getting anything after he kills Darko, literally, whether it is a thing nor value, he won't be getting anything, the major point of their confrontation to Darko was only to find out why Darko sold the squad out, Niko didn't actually intend to kill him (at the very least), knowing Darlo fucked up so badly, Niko realizes that Darko is as good as gone at this point, all Darko wanted however is to provoke Niko to rush his already foreseen fate (his addiction already killed the old him, he was as good as going to hell by that point).
Honestly I don't view this mission as revenge and I imagine it's not just revenge for Niko either, this is taking down a slimy, vindictive fuckin weasel who would smile in your face and shake your hand as a friend during the day and then slit your throat in your sleep at night or more likely lead your enemies to slit your throat instead. Dimitri has proven multiple times to be untrustworthy, manipulative, disloyal, vengeful and apathetic towards those he's betrayed, killing him may stop a profitable deal but it keeps him from being a threat in the (very near) future.
I always chose revenge because Dimitri was a loose end. He seemed to be the type of guy that no matter what you do, he was going to make Niko's life miserable. Even if you did deal he still would haunt you

I chose Revenge. But not because Roman is closer to Niko than Kate. I find it weird that people put so much emphasis on Kate not sleeping with Niko or being annoying, from time to time. Kate is really an underrated character. Think about it - she is the only normal person in her family. She never done anything wrong. She is even better person than Roman, because he constantly causes trouble for Niko and Mallorie for his addiction. Kate is probably the only normal person in the game, besides Ilyene, and she had to work hard on herself to maintain that - she mentioned Niko she went to therapy. And even if you can't have sex with her in game - Niko truly loved her. He saw more in her to that, and by coming to wedding, she became a part of their family, part of the circle of closest people to Niko. She was the only person, besides Roman, who truly got him, because her brothers and father were similar to him. So i never thought about spare Kate or not options in terms of her relationship with Niko. But of her as individual - she is a really strong character, and the most innocent one. Her being virgin is Rockstar silly twisted metaphore. Yet, i chose revenge. But not because i think Nico really wanted revenge that much - he learned that lesson with Darko. It's because he knew Dimitri would never leave him alone. Deal or not. He knew he would screw him if he tried to make a deal. He did it to protect himself and his family. Darko was weak, and he could never harm Niko. Dimitri would do that, easily. That's why revenge was the only solution.
Also they didn't even tried to do hangouts with her and complained that she never initiate or call Niko despite their annoyance of getting called by friends in both freeroam and missions, bunch of hypocrites I'd say. Another thing of their complaints is that she's the only girlfriend who cannot be slept with, which is not a valid reason since the date dialogues with her alongside a few minor appearances in some missions tells that she, her family heritage (having brothers and a father as criminals), her trauma and experiences linking to crime regardless of having no involvement in it whatsoever (knowing her father molested two of her brothers in the past but stayed silent when growing up, afraid that she would get targeted too if tried to oppose him), her immense fear and dilemma of possibly losing someone dear ("I'm scared of all that. You care about people, they die." and added up the fact that her brothers are gangsters, why wouldn't she be worried if one of them could die one day, this applies to Niko as well despite her verbal contradictions), and displaying religious bearings similar to her mother.. there are many reasons for her to always deny the player's advancements when analyzing all the given info around her. The fact that she's the only McReary sibling outside of her family's crime business and a normal citizen working in legal terms says much about her and the hangout dialogues further confirmed her actions and conversations with her being understandable, and that she's falling for someone (Niko) who is a walking reminder of her woes and the thing that she abhors the most; crime. I cannot imagine the overwhelming confusion and stress that she had gone through before reconsidering her growing feelings and finally did so.. unfortunately it ends up in a tragedy (Revenge Ending) or her giving into fear and left him (Deal Ending). This pretty much sums up her characterization from my analysis, sad to know there are still many carrying shallow and immediate hatred against her. Other than that, Niko truly loves her; in his own unique way. Loving someone doesn't necessarily means to say that they do, actions also carried weight and Niko definitely fits to this category. He didn't say it outright to her, his actions alone may reflected his emotions well enough and that's what makes their relationship compelling imo. Hopefully, they could eventually see there is worth in their connection together and that she played an important part to Niko's character development.

Thank you for having a deeper thought into this, it always bothered me that ppl are too happy to let Kate die and they say shit like "Family comes first" and yet they let Packie's family member die without remorse like come on! Niko isn't the only one suffering family loss here.
my issue with kate is she is always thinking about how bad other people are and how good she is in comparison, like yes niko and all her brothers are bad, but we already long since have known that. but she really rubs it into their faces and ours too, as if we don't know that information already. she claims to be "above it all" or whatever but still hangs around bad people instead of you know, fleeing the city or something else? morals are important, but they shouldn't be the thing you constantly think about almost like an obsession. that is exactly what kate does here. she is constantly guilt tripping niko and her brothers or whoever else she can about the bad decisions they made in their lives which are bad and should be mentioned, but shouldn't be mentioned three hundred times. it just gets annoying and gives people headaches. she is so bad that even when criminals try to do normal things, she judges them for it. like come on, criminals don't ONLY commit crimes in the world, they still eat, breathe, drink, need a shower, etc. they aren't demons despite what kate thinks, sure they are bad people but not evil. kate is just a judgemental...person...like really judgemental, even more so than the criminals who she judges constantly. kate is simply the american prison system in human form, always punish, never rehabilitate. kate is also the type of person to guilt trip you, constantly blame you, and talk to you as if you are a hardened criminal if you steal a pencil in middle school once, and we all know it. I apologize that I can see through her but it is only true. bad childhood or not, this is still a terrible mindset to have, and nobody should have need to excuse such behavior. if you are very much against crime and criminals, fine. that is a great thing actually. but she constantly talks to them, hangs out with them and then tells them that they are shitty people because of decisions they made when they were younger and dumber, which most of who she talks to already know that they are shitty people, so her being there is entirely pointless anyways. don't give me "but it's the only people she knows" well like I said, you can simply run away, do something else entirely different, if you hate your family that much, then that is your decision. there are still plenty of good people in the world that she can be around instead and then she can talk about how bad crime and criminals are with those people. but she doesn't do that, and even introverted people would leave if they wanted to badly enough, but she doesn't leave. she still nags people's heads off about her "perfect morals" to a bunch of people she knows that are criminals and doesn't actively try to stop them being criminals, but instead complains that people are criminals and does absolutely nothing to solve it. if I acted that exact same way, I would be told everything that I said here. but she gets a free pass? now that seems like hypocrisy, along with her entire existence.
Well if Roman dies Kate isn’t datable anyways and since you lose her anyway why not let her die the right way with the intention that she was going to be with Niko. Roman lives. And it adds a lot for the McCreary family. Also Packie in gta 5 seems more of a veteran character.

@@quandaledingle6949 After the mission with Darko. You'll have a mission called One Final Deal and it'll be Jimmy Pegerino asking you to make a deal with Dimitri, giving you his location. From there, you'll have 2 missions to choose from, one will be a D for Deal and an R for Revenge.
If you choose Deal; Roman will die and Kate will abandon you… If you choose Revenge; Kate will proud of you but she will die, otherwise Roman will help you for killing Jimmy Pegorino and you can still hang out with Roman.
Dimitri knew shit got real when Niko said, “I have never been popular. I don’t mean to start now. This is when Dimitri started to feel fear as he realizes Niko will actually finish him off without hesitation. Dimtri didn’t want to die and lose everything he built so he decides to try to beg Niko to spare him. The best part is how Niko didn’t even respond to Dimitri pleas while Dimtri just keeps getting more and more desperate to survive. Niko however isn’t fazed and finishes him off.

@@tyrus_kittyeah Ray may have been a jerk but at least he was never a traitor. More likely Ray was betrayed by almost everyone from the Lost, Lucca, Pegorino, and Niko. Niko even felt bad sorry for killing Ray. We can clearly see in that meeting with Pegorino when he was discussing who was the rats, Niko looked guilty when Peg mentioned Ray because he knew Pegorino would more likely choose Ray. Also after Niko killed Ray, his conversation with Roman implies that he regrets having to end Ray like that.
In my opinion, Revenge part is better. I don't want Roman dead, neither did I want Kate dead. Well, I've chosen Revenge, because I didn't want Roman to die, also Dimitri done much worse to Niko and his friends, that's why I wanted to kill him, what I did in this mission.
We all want Roman alive, unfortunately, for me, his death gives more impact in the story and that makes more sense since Niko had been a curse to Roman. And I want to do Revenge as well, but I couldn't, because Revenge is never the answer. Also, the only person we actually see Dimitri showing his betrayal to that person is Faustin. In the Deal, Dimitri also betrays Pegorino. So, maybe the second ending should've been the canon choice.
I feel like revenge is the cannon ending, Dimitri tried to have niko betrayed/ tryed to killed like 3 times and roman once. If the deal happened Dimitri probably would’ve killed/betray niko again and he does if you do the deal.
Dimtri in the Revenge ending went down like Devin Weston in Ending C. Both of them clearly did not expect to be in a situation like this. They were so used to be on top and once they are face to face with someone like Trevor or Niko in a powerless sitation. They go down like cowards. Niko should have roasted Dimtri in this situation where Niko tells him, "I am taking you out because I am not rational. Its because I feel like it. You have nothing to offer me at this point."
Man, I kinda wish Phil said a bit more, or you got one last mission with him(like, in the Deal decision), instead of the short call you got. I mean, you get Ray out of his hair/way. Phil doesn't NEED Pegorinno. He could do fine, independently, as a boss.
SPOILER ALERT: Most of the players choosing which ending to play by going online to research which is better. But I feel that to enjoy the game, we should not spoil the ending for ourselves. We should put ourselves in niko shoes as if we are niko. Not based on whether Kate or roman dies in the end.
I had a hard time choosing between deal and revenge, and choosing if to kill Darko or not. I killed Darko and chose revenge and I looked up both endings right after I finished the game, and im glad I chose what I chose. It gives a feeling of satisfaction and makes it feel more real. Gta IV is great.

The ironic thing is if Roman hadn't told Niko about Dimitri being on the boat, Niko would have just taken the deal which is what Roman wanted, he wouldn't have asked Kate for advice, so she could have gone to the wedding because he never ignored her wishes, and probably survived, unless by some miracle that stray bullet ended up hitting her like it did when Pegorino went after Niko.
You actually get the same amount of money in both endings. In Deal, you get paid 250,000 when you do the deal, and nothing after the final mission. In Revenge, you don't get anything for killing dimitri, but they pay you 250,000 for the final mission. I think.
As they were loading the Heroin in that Mission, I think that Dimitri has already planned to betray Pegorino As, Like he said in Deal's ending (A Revenger's Tragedy), he *didn't worked so hard to share the spoils of the Victory*

I chose Revenge. But not because Roman is closer to Niko than Kate.
I find it weird that people put so much emphasis on Kate not sleeping with Niko or being annoying, from time to time. Kate is really an underrated character.
Think about it - she is the only normal person in her family. She never done anything wrong. She is even better person than Roman, because he constantly causes trouble for Niko and Mallorie for his addiction.
Kate is probably the only normal person in the game, besides Ilyene, and she had to work hard on herself to maintain that - she mentioned Niko she went to therapy. And even if you can't have sex with her in game - Niko truly loved her. He saw more in her to that, and by coming to wedding, she became a part of their family, part of the circle of closest people to Niko. She was the only person, besides Roman, who truly got him, because her brothers and father were similar to him.
So i never thought about spare Kate or not options in terms of her relationship with Niko. But of her as individual - she is a really strong character, and the most innocent one. Her being virgin is Rockstar silly twisted metaphore.
Yet, i chose revenge. But not because i think Nico really wanted revenge that much - he learned that lesson with Darko.
It's because he knew Dimitri would never leave him alone. Deal or not. He knew he would screw him if he tried to make a deal. He did it to protect himself and his family.
Darko was weak, and he could never harm Niko. Dimitri would do that, easily. That's why revenge was the only solution.
Also they didn't even tried to do hangouts with her and complained that she never initiate or call Niko despite their annoyance of getting called by friends in both freeroam and missions, bunch of hypocrites I'd say.
Another thing of their complaints is that she's the only girlfriend who cannot be slept with, which is not a valid reason since the date dialogues with her alongside a few minor appearances in some missions tells that she, her family heritage (having brothers and a father as criminals), her trauma and experiences linking to crime regardless of having no involvement in it whatsoever (knowing her father molested two of her brothers in the past but stayed silent when growing up, afraid that she would get targeted too if tried to oppose him), her immense fear and dilemma of possibly losing someone dear ("I'm scared of all that. You care about people, they die." and added up the fact that her brothers are gangsters, why wouldn't she be worried if one of them could die one day, this applies to Niko as well despite her verbal contradictions), and displaying religious bearings similar to her mother.. there are many reasons for her to always deny the player's advancements when analyzing all the given info around her.
The fact that she's the only McReary sibling outside of her family's crime business and a normal citizen working in legal terms says much about her and the hangout dialogues further confirmed her actions and conversations with her being understandable, and that she's falling for someone (Niko) who is a walking reminder of her woes and the thing that she abhors the most; crime.
I cannot imagine the overwhelming confusion and stress that she had gone through before reconsidering her growing feelings and finally did so.. unfortunately it ends up in a tragedy (Revenge Ending) or her giving into fear and left him (Deal Ending).
This pretty much sums up her characterization from my analysis, sad to know there are still many carrying shallow and immediate hatred against her.
Other than that, Niko truly loves her; in his own unique way.
Loving someone doesn't necessarily means to say that they do, actions also carried weight and Niko definitely fits to this category.
He didn't say it outright to her, his actions alone may reflected his emotions well enough and that's what makes their relationship compelling imo.
Hopefully, they could eventually see there is worth in their connection together and that she played an important part to Niko's character development.
I choosed revenge ending myself cause I really whant it payback on Dimitri cause seeing him betrayed niko reminds me of how i had a class clown and trouble maker who not only both born in 1989 like me kept betraying me and my friend who were both born in 1989 to kept betraying us all the time and i read and collect batman comic's that's why I choosed revenge ending

Thank you for having a deeper thought into this, it always bothered me that ppl are too happy to let Kate die and they say shit like "Family comes first" and yet they let Packie's family member die without remorse like come on! Niko isn't the only one suffering family loss here.
my issue with kate is she is always thinking about how bad other people are and how good she is in comparison, like yes niko and all her brothers are bad, but we already long since have known that. but she really rubs it into their faces and ours too, as if we don't know that information already. she claims to be "above it all" or whatever but still hangs around bad people instead of you know, fleeing the city or something else?
morals are important, but they shouldn't be the thing you constantly think about almost like an obsession. that is exactly what kate does here. she is constantly guilt tripping niko and her brothers or whoever else she can about the bad decisions they made in their lives which are bad and should be mentioned, but shouldn't be mentioned three hundred times. it just gets annoying and gives people headaches.
she is so bad that even when criminals try to do normal things, she judges them for it. like come on, criminals don't ONLY commit crimes in the world, they still eat, breathe, drink, need a shower, etc. they aren't demons despite what kate thinks, sure they are bad people but not evil. kate is just a judgemental...person...like really judgemental, even more so than the criminals who she judges constantly.
kate is simply the american prison system in human form, always punish, never rehabilitate. kate is also the type of person to guilt trip you, constantly blame you, and talk to you as if you are a hardened criminal if you steal a pencil in middle school once, and we all know it. I apologize that I can see through her but it is only true.
bad childhood or not, this is still a terrible mindset to have, and nobody should have need to excuse such behavior. if you are very much against crime and criminals, fine. that is a great thing actually. but she constantly talks to them, hangs out with them and then tells them that they are shitty people because of decisions they made when they were younger and dumber, which most of who she talks to already know that they are shitty people, so her being there is entirely pointless anyways.
don't give me "but it's the only people she knows" well like I said, you can simply run away, do something else entirely different, if you hate your family that much, then that is your decision. there are still plenty of good people in the world that she can be around instead and then she can talk about how bad crime and criminals are with those people. but she doesn't do that, and even introverted people would leave if they wanted to badly enough, but she doesn't leave. she still nags people's heads off about her "perfect morals" to a bunch of people she knows that are criminals and doesn't actively try to stop them being criminals, but instead complains that people are criminals and does absolutely nothing to solve it.

@@quandaledingle6949 After the mission with Darko. You'll have a mission called One Final Deal and it'll be Jimmy Pegerino asking you to make a deal with Dimitri, giving you his location. From there, you'll have 2 missions to choose from, one will be a D for Deal and an R for Revenge.
You know whats even worse is even if you chose Kate over Roman she ends up leaving you anyway 😂

Dimitri knew shit got real when Niko said, “I have never been popular. I don’t mean to start now. This is when Dimitri started to feel fear as he realizes Niko will actually finish him off without hesitation. Dimtri didn’t want to die and lose everything he built so he decides to try to beg Niko to spare him. The best part is how Niko didn’t even respond to Dimitri pleas while Dimtri just keeps getting more and more desperate to survive. Niko however isn’t fazed and finishes him off.
When i've done this mission, I've shot on Dimitri's corpse all the bullets of the combat shotgun and some grenades for the extreme rage. lol
Waste of money, I personally prefer killing him like ice cold killa and get off the ship like nothing ever happened there.
i honestly emptied every bullet ive had, and had to spend like 10,000$ in the gun store to get my weps back, i think i have spent 20 mins in the ships hold >.

Niko even felt bad sorry for killing Ray. We can clearly see in that meeting with Pegorino when he was discussing who was the rats, Niko looked guilty when Peg mentioned Ray because he knew Pegorino would more likely choose Ray. Also after Niko killed Ray, his conversation with Roman implies that he regrets having to end Ray like that.

We all want Roman alive, unfortunately, for me, his death gives more impact in the story and that makes more sense since Niko had been a curse to Roman. And I want to do Revenge as well, but I couldn't, because Revenge is never the answer. Also, the only person we actually see Dimitri showing his betrayal to that person is Faustin. In the Deal, Dimitri also betrays Pegorino. So, maybe the second ending should've been the canon choice.

Dimtri in the Revenge ending went down like Devin Weston in Ending C. Both of them clearly did not expect to be in a situation like this. They were so used to be on top and once they are face to face with someone like Trevor or Niko in a powerless sitation. They go down like cowards. Niko should have roasted Dimtri in this situation where Niko tells him, "I am taking you out because I am not rational. Its because I feel like it. You have nothing to offer me at this point."
If it was Health Ledger Joker, Joker would just laugh so hard at Dimitri’s attempts to threaten him.

I killed Darko and chose revenge and I looked up both endings right after I finished the game, and im glad I chose what I chose. It gives a feeling of satisfaction and makes it feel more real. The ironic thing is if Roman hadn't told Niko about Dimitri being on the boat, Niko would have just taken the deal which is what Roman wanted, he wouldn't have asked Kate for advice, so she could have gone to the wedding because he never ignored her wishes, and probably survived, unless by some miracle that stray bullet ended up hitting her like it did when Pegorino went after Niko.

You actually get the same amount of money in both endings. In Deal, you get paid 250,000 when you do the deal, and nothing after the final mission. In Revenge, you don't get anything for killing dimitri, but they pay you 250,000 for the final mission. I think.
