The best antagonist, is the type that make you feel genuine and pure hate for the character regardless of them only being a game character. Rockstar definitely knew what they were doing for GTA4. Great Dimitri video again, keep up the great work. Hope to see more from you in the future.
Dimitri is my favorite villain in GTA history, Micah from RDR 2 was a bit like Dimitri but Dimitri is much more smart, Micah was able to brainwashed Dutch but Dutch never was smart and inteligent and it's so easy to brainwash a guy like Dutch. Niko on the other hand is smart and he was still manipulated by Dimitri. Guys usually can't manipulate people but Dimitri is really good manipulator and a villain.

This along with listening to Vladivostok FM, driving around Hove Beach on a rainy afternoon really made me feel like I was playing a Slavic game. The arguments between Rascalov and Faustin made some of the most entertaining cutscenes
I know the "canon" ending is probably Revenge ending, but "A Revenger's Tragedy" mission felt like the proper closing to the game. The emotions in Niko's lines, the atmosphere, Dimitri's death, all feels just right. On the other side, Roman cracking jokes in "Out of Commission" doesn't feel right at all.
I agree. I assumed that the Revenge ending was going to be in line with the rest of what the game kept trying to tell you. Sparing a life and moving on was portrayed as better than simple vengeance. This happens a few times in the story, culminating with Darko and your decision with what to do with him. Sparing him is seen as the 'better' option for Niko. And then moving onto the ending mission... On my first playthrough, I did just that. I followed Roman's advice and did The Deal in the hopes that Niko and everyone around him can finally be "cut loose" and leave the crime business without anyone dying. Crime clearly does pays, but crime takes in other ways, you know? But this time it didn't go well. Mercy wasn't the good option, it was the worse one. And the fury I felt at the funeral? That was true vengeance. A bigger feeling of revenge than the 'Revenge ending' could have ever have given me. Niko and everyone else were finally out of "the game", but he lost Roman, his best friend and only family. Katie even refuses to talk to Niko anymore.
@@MiniMackeroni Yep, your experience is pretty much the same for me. It really helps that I don't like Kate very much, so half my reason choosing deal was just because I don't want to do it her way. And while I can see Dimitri fucking up Niko's life again in some way, I didn't see that Pegorino is going to betray Niko and basically just throw him off the cliff even though Niko went through hell to make sure the botched deal went right. Everything in Deal ending just so depressing and intense, but again felt right with how GTA IV's atmosphere was. Meanwhile in Revenge ending, a lot of things are... weirdly cheerful. Roman following you on the final mission and being goofy and no one really knew Kate so the only emotional weight is on Niko (Packie isn't even helping you getting revenge on her wtf). Also this is purely my taste but the boat jump to helicopter is much better than the motorcycle jump. That one is so over the top, felt like something from GTA V haha.
Revenge ending is cannon. Its also the best ending, because Roman lives. Id rather have Roman alive than Kate. Kate leaves Niko either way if you choose deal ending so they never settle down and live happily ever after. Sad story for Niko.
Deal ending made more sense. Even after beating this game multiple times and still choosing revenge everytime, it doesn't fit very well. Niko coming to Liberty City to fill his void and hunt down "that special someone" and doing everything he can to do so, couldn't have a nice ending. It was the top reason Niko came to LC, he made it seem like he was there just for a new beginning. His intentions were clear and he chose the path. The path he chose could not realistically have a happy ending. Like Dimitri said: "We can choose the game, Niko Bellic, but we can't change the rules". He put his cousin at big risk, even though Roman put Niko through some trouble, he would never do anything that could potentially risk Niko's life. Thats why Roman's death made more sense. Niko would finally understand that revenge for his friends and the money that he made from crime would never fill his void, only it would be too late. Of course its way sadder for Niko, and as a player given the choice it wouldnt make sense to get Roman to die, but it does fit this game's dark storyline and atmosphere better.

Guard working for Pegorino: Bruh i don't care

Rockstar's best antagonist (along side Starkweather and officer Samuel L. Jackson) and one of the best antagonists in gaming history
Dimitri is also the most realístic psychopath in video games.
The way Dimitri flawlessly plays victim… it’s so scary and there are so many people like this that’s the worse part! He’s a full psychopath and that’s make him the most ruthless versus all the gta antagonist…

I find it laughable that A LOT of gamers call Micah from Red Dead 2 "the most hated video game character in history"
They obviously never met Dimitri Rascolov. Don't get ne wrong, Micah deserved every bullet he received, but I have never been so SATISFIED killing anyone like I did to Dimitri.
Micahs probably not even second place. That would probably be tenpenny or sonny forelli.
I have played both games and even tho I like gta IV more that Rdr2 I find that Micah is the best antagonist ever.
It was so satisfying getting Arthur's hat on my head and killing Micah.
What if you liked both of them?
I like both, but Dimitri was more unlikeable than Micah, Micah was badass.
I don't hate Micah. I think that he is pathetic.

Dimitri being a snake makes me wonder if that was Kenny Petrovics son that Niko killed. Maybe he just wanted to kill faustin and grab power for himself
It would be a cool idea, but Lenny (Kenny's son) is listed as dead on the LCPD database website after the mission.
Faustin was too real when you read between the lines. Despite his blatancy in his dealings, he has not been fully corrupted.
I feel like both ending drop the ball. There is every reason why Jimmy shouldn't trust Dimitri, and the betrayal at the deal should result in you going after Dimitri for double crossing Jimmy, Phil, and you (again). The choices are given just for the sake of having them, not because they really amount to anything significant.

I wish Faustin had lasted longer than he did. Perhaps there could’ve been an alternate ending to “The Master and The Molotov, in which Faustin is able to convince Niko of Dimitri’s true nature and to work with him to hunt down Dimitri, which eventually leads to Faustin’s death later down the line.
Always loved their names. Mikhail Faustin is a reference to someone who is Faustian, or a Faustian Bargain, which is focusing on present gain with no regard for future consequences.
Meanwhile, Dmitri Rascalov is just a little rascal.
Dimitri is a really good villain.
At first you feel pity for him thinking Mika is a monster... True, he is. But Dimitri is a demon. Mikhail keeps stability with his gang, while Dimitri only looks for power.
And he was so into pretending to be Mikhail's pet that you really wish you could help him...
While other characters like Big smoke don't really go through a lot, so they keep a neutral relationship with the player.

@@jameskinsella6105 Because female villains actually doesn't exists in games and I mean real female villains who are like Dimitri Rascalov or Ray Boccino, like Faith Seed from Far Cry 5, I though that she might be epic but you know what they did with her? Our lovly Ubisoft in the end decided to turn Faith into a victim, they always do that, even if female is evil somehow, in the end she is always a victim used or betrayed by very evil male villain like Dimitri, this is what they do with female characters, or they are victims or they are completely useless like Kate from GTA IV, its sad and bad as well. Is it coincidental that Dimitri shares the same first name, and bears a faint resemblance to legendary Russian composer Shostakovich?
Dimitri is a common Russian name
And like a composer playing the violins like fiddles, so does Dimitri with people.
He should've been the paranoid but careful friend of Niko. Sad. Playing GTA 4 after 2 years again!
Manipulation is basically the core of his character. Never.
When you're going through the game for the first time, GTAIV introduces Dimitri to you as "your guy", calm, reasonable, charismatic. Before it reveals all the cards.
When you replay GTAIV for the second time, already knowing his true nature, you start to see that all of that were nothing more than a sleazy manipulations from the beginning.
When you finish the game for 10th time, you understand that Dimitri wasn't a villain all along.
I liked the comment until that last sentence lol. How is he not a villain?
@@snatch051 in a world where everybody is a villain, who is the villain?
Dimitri is a criminal (so he IS a villain no matter what from a perspective of law). But why do WE see him as a villain - because of his treacherous and hypocrisy nature (to us/Niko/many others).
How can we view Dimitri as NOT the villain - because when comparing Dimitri to other characters in the game, he may be seen as a lesser evil. Characters like Faustin, Pegorino and Niko are portrayed as more ruthless and violent. Dimitri's motive is only to stop the madness and chaos and to continue their operation safely.
Here's raising a new question what is a lesser evil in a long perspective for the innocent people.
@@69dm Betraying people you work with for your benefit, especially people that you have an extensive and touching history with, is pretty ruthless. And pretty cold for just about any type of human being, even among criminals.
