I’m thinking about having Roman killed off instead of Kate this time around, but I don’t know if I can bring myself to have Roman killed.
As much as I enjoyed any story GTA V had to give, it was no match on GTA IV's Diamond storyline... The way the three main protagonists interact with each other in one way, or the other was outstanding. They literally did more harm than good to one another. LOL
Just so you should know, I'm pretty sure that the diamonds were possessed by Ray Bulgarin in Europe, and that the cook stole them from him in Eastern Europe and fled on the same boat Niko did to Liberty City to escape with the diamonds before Bulgarin got wise to it. Because of this, and because of Niko, Bulgarin traveled to America to hunt down the cook AND the diamonds. By the time he found the cook, they were already offloaded to Tony and his crew, so he killed the cook and put his head in the box as a message to Luis and Tony. We know the rest from there. :)
I also bet that Bulgarin is responsible for the Platypus crew disappearance/death. He must have track the diamond to the ship and interrogated the crew for information before cutting loose ends
and he got shot in the throat by luis and blowing his own private plane and luis eventually is able to escape from ray bulgarin's destroyed cockpit private plane
It makes a lot of sense and its all Bulgarin was after, after of course he failed at his attempt to kill Niko, he wanted that once he knew he was in LC but then focused on the diamonds
This whole diamond story is an amazing subplot that makes GTA 4 great. It's just somewhat funny how all of them fight for diamonds but no one gets to keep them. This reminds of a Pink Panther classic episode in which there was pink panther himself in the stone age, the white guy, a small green dinasour and a big blue dinasour, they all fight for a bone to eat but in the end a crocodile gets it.
I figured out that the diamonds were the true link between the three games. That and drugs in general, but the diamond story is a little more subtle so I found it interesting.
Wesim It doesn't seem as obvious as the more generic and common crimes committed throughout the game. Drugs and the like. Honestly, I'd still vote drugs as being more valuable than diamonds could ever be, simply because there will always be more.
tenchimuyo69 There are actually lots of diamonds, there's just a monopoly of them. Drugs would be more valuable if there was a monopoly on them. Also, the diamonds are the most obvious link. Especially when the characters from the expansions and IV literally show up on your screen in the diamond missions. This only happens once in either the heroin or cocaine missions (can't remember which). When I was playing through this I wasn't sure if the heroin was connected or not and I thought the cocaine in each of them were all completely different batches. With the diamonds they directly reference the other games.
at the intro of gta 4, i was confused on why the camera is focused on tbe diamonds, i thought there will be something wrong happening while theyre on their way to liberty city. now with all these 3 ganes played, i get it now xDD
42:37 I like how Johnny knows not to fuck with Niko or get in his way when he's pissed as soon when he saw all those dead bodies downstairs that Niko killed on his way out the door.
@Shrug It was like a brotherly relationship. Tony never was attracted to Luis. Tony had his boundaries with Luis. Not every gay guy is out to date or hook up with a straight guy.
Hell yeah. Most people will say San Andreas but it was just too unrealistic. The guy starts from the hood riding a bicycle and ends up flying jets and jetpacks all over the city. It was a great game, no doubt, but not better than this. This game has the better stories, city, and characters.
the storyline of gta 4 had so much character variety and different angles of the story so yeah gta 4 had the best story however...........GTA5!!!!!! is the one of the best games that has graced all games consoles (fact!!!) my 57 year old step uncle hates video games with a passion but he says gta5 has something about it that he'll never understand but he had to play it and he still does
Watching these stories together, makes me feel like it was the inspiration for the 3 protagonist thing in gta 5, and rockstar may have even wanted that idea for gta 4 at one point, but split it into 3 different games to get more profit.
It was planned to have 3 protagonists in gta 4 but in that time new consoles, new technology, more detail, no time they had to scraped Johnny and Luis stories and I'm glad they make it happen afterwards... The story is so deep no gta can top that
+Giovany Zegarra How do you know they intended to do IV with 3 protagonists? IV was released in 2008 and EFLC in 2010, if everything was ready why not release sooner? and what about all the plot holes and remodeling that can easily be explained by EFLC being made later?
@@whatever57010 I think this was some 'Beta' to GTA V release. Maybe R* want implement an story on 3 protagonists on single game but at early develovment just drop that idea becouse like you said Xbox and PS3 was a newer hardware and will be complicate to implement and later released EFLC on some 'Beta' on what they're working (GTA V) same to Max Payne 3 had some type of Beta content to GTA V. Similar to the first Snow mission in GTA V to test it to implement on RDR2, and maybe RDR2 had some content the we will see on the next game that R* releases (Hope GTA VI finally)
1:06:55 "So, this isn't about Gracie, it's about saving our own asses?" "Yes. This is a purely selfish act. Are you happy now?" Best conversation ever.
That's because they had a lot of space to refine and improve each arc in each expansion. They didn't have that luxury for GTA5 when they decided to produce three character arcs at the same time. That why 5's story feels watered down. It really should had been incrementally added on the same way 4 and its DLCs were, but Rockstar just had to be too lofty with their ambitions.
I FUCKING LOVE the fact that theres 3 stories that come together on a plot point. 3 DIFFERENT ones that is. Sure, in GTA V there is 3 stories, but those are so connected that every other mission theyre all together. In GTA IV, its an event. Once every thousand years when planets collide and the sun becomes a red giant, Niko, Luis and Johnny come together. :D
That's the difference. GTA IV has 3 different storylines with some branches that connect with one another, intertwining them in a great way. GTA V has one storyline with a few branches sticking out, with those branches belonging to three different characters. While GTA V is fun, GTA IV has a dark side to it that gives me that melancholic feeling that GTA V just can't. GTA V focuses too much on the "bling". It shows off modern graphics, modern features, stuff that appeals a lot more to the kids and teenagers. GTA IV though, was about three men, who were great on the inside, and their lives pretty much went to hell. And even then, only two of them survived it, while the one who didn't died in - and you'll never guess - GTA FUCKING V! *insert laugh here* Also, just so we're clear, GTA IV refers to EFLC as well, they're still practically GTA IV expansions.
Technically, Luis saves Niko even though they hated eachother due to Tony and Ray, and how Luis did it? Killed Ray Bulgarin. Oh, and Johnny was killed by Trevor. Sandy Shores, Niland Ave, San Andreas, 2013, Beer bottle, then a stomps on the head. Piece of brain on Trevor's boot.
I don't think Luis is the antagonist, he and Tony bought the diamonds from the cook fair and square... Johnny and Niko are the ones that is getting paid to steal them.

I LOVE THIS CHANNEL! Thank you for everything!
A big Rockstar continuity FAIL... there is no way that should have happened. Another thing, that's a small island and a big slow distinctive truck... for 2 million I would have run after it on foot (or better yet, jacked a car and chase it down)
whatever57010 I think he'll will, but I don't think we'll see the diamonds again. If he'll have a major role in the game, I think he'll employ our chararcter as a corrupt bussinusman or something. If we WILL see the diamonds again, he perhaps ripped off people to claim money from the sellings all over and over, in case he'll have financial problems. It been a time since the TBoGT events, and anything could happend. Still, as the drama the diamonds created in the IV Trilogy, I'll like to see them again.
רמי פריצקר If Jerry Kapowitz would appear in GTA VI there are a few logical conditions: 1. GTA VI have to take place in Vice City. 2. Jerry will own a gun and liquor store (bought from the diamond money, so the diamonds won't appear). OR Make some kind of twist where the diamonds are cursed, someone stole them and the whole shit storm starts over again.... BUT Since Rockstar have proved to be inconsistent with character development I guess that if Jerry appears it will be illogical and will have nothing to do with what we know from GTA IV.
whatever57010 Yeah, you're got a point. I think that we most likely see him. Maybe in the introduction of his gun store, we'll meet him again. If we got that diamond sitaution again, to be honest, I'll rather do the whole circle of the story of the diamonds again, just not working with the FIB all the time and a better story. If Jerry is a corrupted busiunss man, not that I'm saying you said it, it won't be inconsistent. Think about it, he might always wanted to be succesful, and as we know, almost any succesful bussinusmen in the GTA Series are either corrupted, or have criminal affilations. Anyway, thanks for your input, I still think that the diamonds should be mentioned, at least.
If they do not make DLC/Expansions like Ballad of Gay Tony/Lost and Damned for GTA V then next GTA game could take place in San Fierro/Las Venturas maybe.
Speaking truth, I feel really sorry for Ray Boccino. He was backstabbed both by Johnny and Niko (as an order from Pegorino), while his only sin was greed (not in a amoral way). However he is far away from dirty and disloyal actions. In opposite: he helped both protagonists in finding “those special someone” (Florian and Brian) but Niko and Johnny payed shit to him. Niko told Phil Ray’s “a rat doing an impression of a man” (which is not true in my opinion), and Johnny ripped him off with no good reason (just because he is guido scum or something) by strealing $2 000 000. In this case with Johnny Ray’s anger (kidnapping and burning Jim in orded to get Johnny) is becoming more or less understandable. Well, he just became a scapegoat for everyone
Right! I never understood why they hated Ray so much. Sure he was a bit of a loudmouth but he didn't deserve all the hate he got from the protagonists. I never understood everyone's burning hatred towards him. I kinda liked the guy lol
@@romaniw17 Johnny the simp let his feelings for Ashley get in the way of business. He didn't like Ray the moment he talked about her, in "Bad Standing". Yeah, I enjoyed IV more I feel like Niko was a lot more developed them Franklin or Michael or Trevor. Luis to me was a bit like Franklin he was a man from the heights trying to be a better person just like how Franklin wanted to get out of the ghetto and make better money. Niko was a guy looking for vengeance cause of his past from the war. Searched for a decade To find the person who betrayed him. He’s out for revenge, Michael or Trevor didn’t remind me of Niko or Johnny. Michael was a treacherous snake and very depressive person. He was an asshole to his family. But got better in the end. Trevor, honestly I can relate to this character somewhat and Niko. Trevor is truly insane but very sympathetic and loyal to the fault after all the shit Michael did he didn’t kill him. And In the End when the mission “The Time Comes” he didn’t help Franklin kill Michael and in the other ending Michael helps Franklin kill Trevor shows you what the bastard he really is. I really don’t like Michael. He’s a dick. Trevor I can late too. Maybe not the cannibalism, incest and bestiality but the sympathy and loyalty of Trevor I like. Trevor is really just a really fucked up guy. Johnny is a cool character shame what happened to him in V. I feel Billy and Ashley really fucked him up. And made him weak. And he lost his spirit after GTA IV. I feel Trevor just ended the suffering for him. Look at the Johnny in V he’s a meth head mess. Honestly I blame him for getting Jim killed too cause I feel trying to screw Ray boccino over was a bad idea and contributed to him getting Jim killed. But I feel I blame billy grey and Ashley mostly for what happened to Johnny. “Lost but not forgotten” but I feel IV the characters were more developed in IV then V.
This comment right here man spoke nothing but the truth. GTA 5 only took me 3 fucking days to beat and the forgettable story was terribly written except for the bury the hatchet mission that was the only good part of that garbage ass story.
Can you integrate all three ( diamonds, cocaine, heroine, an maybe more I don't know about) with the rest of the story? And is there a mod to keep the character model for Jim the same in all games?
great video men. when I first played GTA IV I'd never think that chef with the diamond would be so essential in the storyline, it's just great how R* connect all three stories
This is the biggest and most unique plot element I've ever seen in anything I've seen before! And the unique thing is that this is seen through all of LC criminals' points of views. Another cool thing is that nobody knew the full story diamond substory until they played all of EFLC when it came out in 2009 (1 year after IV release). Thanks for clearing that up! Very awesome, and plus, if GTA VI _does_ take place in VC, that homeless guy who is now a millionare, Jerry Kapowitz will HAVE to own a liquor store and Ammunation! I hope R* remembers that!
Bulgarin's my favorite antagonist in the series. I guess Yusuf is the Packie of TBoGT lol, he's my favorite character in TBoGT. Packie's my favorite overall, the only character I like more than Niko.
The diamonds sub plot starts at the very first cutscene in GTA 4 and ends at the very last cutscene of TBoGT, from the very beginning to the very end of the GTA 4 timeline
Ha I thought I was the only one who caught that. Though even if he did call him, it's safe to say that Niko will not be doing that type of stuff anymore....but, "well....you know how it is."
@@kockinmeazz I think from a pov of storytelling, character development and physics, GTA V doesn't even come close to being as good as GTA IV. On the other hand when its about being an "open world" game ,GTA V simply does a better job.
When I was about 12-13, I was playing this game and the DLC over and over and over again, put in so many hours and replays of it before the release of GTA V. The hours of reliving the story of its overarching plot threads and playing the multiplayer constantly with my online buds at the time, with so much role play and overall good times. My only missed opportunity was not getting all its achievements for it given how much I’ve played it. I often come back to watching videos of this game and went ahead and 100% this game on PC now as an adult. Truly an amazing game. It’s criminally underrated how this game is overshadowed by V, and various other great titles. This is may or may not be a controversial take, but for me, this is THE PERFECT GTA to date in regards of its story. The idea of just 3 protagonists lives being intertwined by these arcs in the criminal underworld of Liberty City is really compelling which excels infinitely more than V’s attempt of a trio-based linear storyline. With my nerdy nostalgic ramble now over, I’d like to thank you Whatever for making these videos and reminding how fantastic this game is and how good my childhood was. :)
I wish I found this vid last year.. I did a college essay about the diamonds and the characters' motivations in the story. I played through the game twice just for that, and I was still missing a lot of details, this video would've helped me :(
The diamonds were bad luck and problems from the start for all the protagonist but very good video put together and the game and the story is amazing all gtas are amazing lol :)
The editing skills on display are something to be respected. Well done dude, I always found GTA IV to be the peak of Rockstar's genuine story telling ability, and watching this overarching plot play out confirms it.
The last part where they say Vice City, the homeless man is going to make liquor store and gunshop... I heard the Vice City things everywhere.. That's that mean that GTA VI is gonna be situated in Vice City, are R* giving hints?
Thank you so much for making this. The GTA IV story is one of the greatest. It was like watching The Godfather again for the first time when I first completed the game. Lol
honestly; this is so far Rockstar's Crowning Achievement. we've yet to see another story-line or game titles crisscross and interact with each other on this scale.
I can confirm that Niko and Luis are verified to be immortal. They can survive all this shit. Johnny, on the other hand, shouldn't have died. The amount of shit he went through should have honestly relieved him from getting killed with a bottle.
The diamond story is the coolest plot are even been in GTA series I think. Maybe it will be cool if rockstar remake the GTA 4 and EFLC to be like GTA 5, having 3 characters and problems in one game. It will be great since GTA 4 Trio, Niko, Johnny, and Luis doesnt like GTA 5 trio, they never really work together, sometimes they even faces each other as enemies. Yeah, I like GTA 5 too, the gameplay is better, but I think GTA 4 has more great storyline, a lot than the bullshit storyline of GTA 5...
While GTA V is an improvement over IV in aspects like gameplay, vehicles, guns and such it was a complete letdown after IV in others. From little things from melee combat or throwing objects to big things like the story. I don't blame R* for this, I blame the majority of people (aka, spoiled brats or downright idiots). I see a lot of people complaining about IV for being "too dark". Too fucking "dark" is a complaint about a game for mature audiences only. Can you believe this shit? IV's story was a fucking masterpiece. This clip proves it, it's a step beyond a great film, a serious work of art. I honestly wish they go for VI for that that they went in IV, although it's unlikely, because they'll listen to people who want to play this game for shits and giggles and not for the story, sad, but can't blame them for going for selling big after all the investment a GTA requires. Joke's on them though, because R* is actually making fun of them and they don't even realize it.
+The Clown Prince of Crime GTA 5 story was pretty average for a video game and even for a grand theft auto...,ok that was not an masterpiece like grand theft auto 4,but you're seriously overestimate GTA 4's story...,GTA 5 was more like a movie, not realistic, the bad guys were fucking lame, the end is lazy, but at least we got humor, the characters are well write,I mean shit is a fucking GTA,it's stay a gods game, don't disown it cause you wanna be a freaking nostalgia hipster...
You god damn right, but I criticize the fact that when a new game is release, everybody split on it and the former game is pray for his quality...,it's was exactly like that when grand theft auto IV arrive, everybody think that the game suck and shout everywhere that gta San Andreas is a way better game,I just hate this nostalgia-hipster deny that every old player practice...,but yeah the story of the liberty city opus is really better, and niko is way more touchy and charismatic than Trevor and Franklin,I guess that Michael alone would have one the best story of rockstar, unfortunately they put 3 fucking characters...
I'm not even 10 minutes into the video and I'm already amazed at the level of dedication and quality of the editing. SUPERB job. You deserve way more views and subs than you have.
The way this subtle story was put together so well & connected the main game + DLC; I can't believe this wasn't continued in GTA 5. I'd love to see this in future GTA games-
***** Jim looked Hispanic, but technically was still Caucasian, in TLaD. I suppose it wasn't til the development of TLaD when Rockstar decided to give him a more distinct appearance.
I love how all 3 stories are all connected and inter-twin with each other, but they also are independent on their own and have their own themes and stories.
I still can't get over how smart it was of Rockstar to release DLCs like this, and plan the story beforehand. There's minor errors that whatever57010 points out in other videos, but otherwise this was amazingly done. GTA 5 just went over the top with three protagonists, not exactly how it should've gone in my opinion but I guess it could be considered an experiment.

As much as I enjoyed any story GTA V had to give, it was no match on GTA IV's Diamond storyline... The way the three main protagonists interact with each other in one way, or the other was outstanding.
They literally did more harm than good to one another. LOL
That's why I prefer gta 4
+Shane Walsh Yep. GTA IV's story seemed MUCH better written than V's.
thats the good thing about gta just because 1 is newer then the other doesnt mean the story cant be better then the newer 1 i prefer 4 over 5
+Tyler Wallace exactly
+Shane Walsh In my opinion it's due to the fact that GTA V is a lot lighter in tone, more light-hearted, while GTA IV was darker and more serious.
:D
Very Good
I also bet that Bulgarin is responsible for the Platypus crew disappearance/death.
This reminds of a Pink Panther classic episode in which there was pink panther himself in the stone age, the white guy, a small green dinasour and a big blue dinasour, they all fight for a bone to eat but in the end a crocodile gets it.
lol yea but in this case it ends up at the hands of a homeless guy.
andresdr Yeah, Which is a bit satisfying!
Cartoons plot but it's in an adult game
It reminds me of that movie Snatch
And in the end finished to hobo hands. He bought liquor store, gun shop in Vice City and probably living happy with wife and kids.

+whatever57010 niko was my favorite character out of all the gta series
I figured out that the diamonds were the true link between the three games.
That and drugs in general, but the diamond story is a little more subtle so I found it interesting.
It's not subtle at all
Wesim
It doesn't seem as obvious as the more generic and common crimes committed throughout the game.
There is a monopoly on drugs, it's called the FDA.
at the intro of gta 4, i was confused on why the camera is focused on tbe diamonds, i thought there will be something wrong happening while theyre on their way to liberty city.
now with all these 3 ganes played, i get it now xDD

Niko is surely the badass.
it’s common sense considering niko came from a war
Luis also mentioned he became paranoid after the bank heist, which Niko was apart of lol.
Niko was the alpha in GTA4 😆
The libertonian mission is SO COOL. All 3 characters in one place, a lot like gta 5 but in this one the 3 characters are shooting at each other
***** ah well you get the point, the three are all working against and with each other in different missions without knowing.
and in this mission luis is on the other side of a gunfight, not for too long though since he books it after he gets the diamonds

@Big Smoke Your opinion
@Big Smoke Go back to your number 9's
There is something about this that somehow topps the others
yes. i also love that about GTAIV
+ON HunTinG
nah i probably wasn't rushed, i mean GTA V amazing, but i consider GTA V's story is like a spin-off to GTA IV.
*insert laugh here*
Also, just so we're clear, GTA IV refers to EFLC as well, they're still practically GTA IV expansions.
mrknockknock1 Johnny is still fucking alive man
Technically, Luis saves Niko even though they hated eachother due to Tony and Ray, and how Luis did it? Killed Ray Bulgarin. Oh, and Johnny was killed by Trevor. Sandy Shores, Niland Ave, San Andreas, 2013, Beer bottle, then a stomps on the head. Piece of brain on Trevor's boot.
I don't think Luis is the antagonist, he and Tony bought the diamonds from the cook fair and square... Johnny and Niko are the ones that is getting paid to steal them.
You´re right, Niko and Johnny are the 2 who suffer in this game at the end, casually they are the ones who robbed the diamonds to Luis

Most likely he is
Man the diamonds were so close to Packie's house in the end when you think about it.
Brooooo...
My guess is since the homeless guy is going to Vice City, hes gonna somehow make an appearance in GTA 6
It's about time for Vice City...
whatever57010 I think he'll will, but I don't think we'll see the diamonds again.
רמי פריצקר If Jerry Kapowitz would appear in GTA VI there are a few logical conditions:
1. GTA VI have to take place in Vice City.
2. Jerry will own a gun and liquor store (bought from the diamond money, so the diamonds won't appear).
OR
Make some kind of twist where the diamonds are cursed, someone stole them and the whole shit storm starts over again....
BUT
Since Rockstar have proved to be inconsistent with character development I guess that if Jerry appears it will be illogical and will have nothing to do with what we know from GTA IV.
whatever57010 Yeah, you're got a point.
Gotta appreciate the hard-work, efforts and dedication put into making the the Diamonds Story appear as it is happening in the vid.
Great job!
Black63AMG I agree, after 7 years I still enjoy IV :D
@@vladb.3690 One word, *opinions*.

The idea of just 3 protagonists lives being intertwined by these arcs in the criminal underworld of Liberty City is really compelling which excels infinitely more than V’s attempt of a trio-based linear storyline.

...What?
anak iguana Johnny died.
This will never happen.
A history in 3 story lines... its so great! xD i love GTA IV
GTA IV's story was like a Martin Scorsese classic , V's story on the other hand ohh boy it was complete shit. I hope R* can redeem themselves with VI.
Fuckin agreed GTA V story sucked
+Louis Latour I like GTA V as much as the next guy, but GTA IV has a far better story. That's a fact.
Bro you are a goat for you editing the dialogues right after another adequately between missions
8:01 Tony looks terrible on the TLAD version.
It's the same model from GTA IV, before it was updated in TBoGT.
Yeah, looks like a cheap cosplay of Dimitri Lol
42:01 on Niko's screen that guy running away is actually johnny
True, and it is possible to kill him (check my video Killing Niko and Johnny)
*Spoiler
It would be awesome if gta 6 was in vice city and there was an actual gun store just like the one mentioned at the end
Alex Wheeler That would be awesome :D
+Alex Wheeler GTA VI(CE CITY)
+SonicZaragoza i hate corny guys like you on the net
+kel kals no need to be rude
kel kals well you shouldn't be too hard on yourself
The way this subtle story was put together so well & connected the main game + DLC; I can't believe this wasn't continued in GTA 5. I'd love to see this in future GTA games-
I love how you split screen the concurrent events. That's great work fam.
I still don't understand why they changed Jim from a bald American fat buy to a African American guy.
***** Jim looked Hispanic, but technically was still Caucasian, in TLaD.
I suppose it wasn't til the development of TLaD when Rockstar decided to give him a more distinct appearance.
TechnAmateur More than likely, yeah.
+TechnAmateur i think it was a good choice even if it had a major error of confusion
+TechnAmateur same as luis
John Moreta Yes and Johnny
GTA V wasn't even out when this video was released. How crazy
Watched the whole thing , was interesting as hell forgot how incredible the writing was in GTA IV and how serious and funny it was
I love how all 3 stories are all connected and inter-twin with each other, but they also are independent on their own and have their own themes and stories.
oh god tony looked soooo different in tlad. also i think luis "accidently" dropped those diamonds for the homless man at the end of tbogt
I still can't get over how smart it was of Rockstar to release DLCs like this, and plan the story beforehand. There's minor errors that whatever57010 points out in other videos, but otherwise this was amazingly done.
GTA 5 just went over the top with three protagonists, not exactly how it should've gone in my opinion but I guess it could be considered an experiment.
now everything is clear! thank you for your work!
Happy you enjoyed it, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment :)
***** That would be interesting :)
***** LOL xD
*****
They said there wont be any, I just heard that
*****
Only one protagonist? So they going back to old style?
Looks like a full leight movie!
Thanks for having taken the time to put up the whole story together. Very well done. Take care.
Alright your one of the most recent comments so don't feel stupid posting on a 10 year video buttt...
The trash guy luca is comedian bobby Kelly idk fun little fact I didn't notice on my original play through and recognized his voice instantly
Needed to share that
I love this, ive played al three of these games and always wanted to see this story unfold like this. I legit went and got food and popcorn and sat and watched. Thanks soo much!
