      +SpeaksIt I am not sure if there is a recording studio in Chiang Mai, but I do know that the city is filled with many creative people who are probably into music just like you. Also there is a sick jazz bar in CM that does open mics once a week.

      hi Pat, the link does not work. I end up on your site, but it says the content has been moved or deleted. I really would like to know where this is you are staying at for 80$ a month. I am in Chiang Mai right now and I need to find a cheap place to stay for a couple of months. I'd be so greatful if you could tell me where that place is!

    In apartment living there, landlords are allowed to charge you almost double what the actual electric bill is. I know it happened to me. Best bet is to rent a house, the landlord gives you the actual electric bill and you pay it yourself at a 7-11.

    This is not an apartment but rather an hotel room.
    However @ $80 per month it's great value and looks safe and clean.
    One can eat 3 meals per day in Thai restaurants for less than $10 so a kitchen is not necessary unless one is into home cooking.
    Here in Europe a Thai Foot Massage is €60 per hour (c. 2000 Baht), in Thailand it's 200 Baht.
    Corona Virus has caused Thailand to close down to tourists which has put millions of Thais out of work.
    Hopefully there will be an anti-dote in the Spring.

      @nhelou2009 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      True. This is basically just a transient house, because it has no kitchen, no laundry area. You just sleep, take shower and nothing more, you cannot cook because there is no cooker.

    • @shunkajun
      @shunkajun 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      +Lourdes Abuso I think the concept is that you eat out all the time because most people do. So many street vendors and small restaurants to choose from, you can eat there cheaper than making it yourself at home.

      Bangkok is a little more expensive than chiang mai, when I stayed in chiang mai I paid around $250for a nice room/apartment for a full month and around $50 for wifi, water and electricity totaling $300 for the month. My room did have a stove top cooker and microwave however I rarely used them as street food and restaurants where so cheap most of the time they where used to reheat some leftovers or some packet noodles and snacks etc. It is a lovely country with friendly locals and I cant wait to go back to chiang mai.

      I thought it was $80 per night. That would be the right price for me. $80 per month? You've got to be joking. But then again, after I've watched the video, I don't think I want to ever stay in a place like that. But it's nice to know that you can crash somewhere for that price.

  • @RiDankulous
    @RiDankulous 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    This video does something very important for me as an American. There's opportunity, and there's value out there, not just that country but in the world, and even in pockets of America. I sometimes pigeonhole myself to thinking in tunnel vision. Thanks for opening my mind a little bit and seeing the huge opportunity. I haven't seen huge opportunity and value but I haven't really looked hard and in the right places.

  • @sdushdiu
    @sdushdiu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I know that one can indeed call these minimalist rooms "apartments, but in fact they are little more than a Motel 6 efficiency or a dorm room with a small efficiency - read counter - called a kitchen.
    Most who are not simply 20 something and serious about actually relocating an establishing a home think of a more substantial apartment as being something akin to a living room, defined kitchen (not simply a gas burner!), bedroom, second bedroom or office, and maybe some sort of utility room in addition to a defined full bathroom. \
    And this is NOT what these videos talking about "apartments cheap" are talking about!

  • @rockjanesko5901

    When I travel alone. I'm like you. All I care is to have a very clean, quiet place to stay. I'm ok with basic as long as is safe, quiet and clean. I don't like the shower/toilet concept at all. And I would like a small kitchenette. I've seen nice apartments for 200 a month that look like any small 1 bedroom apartment from the US. The only difference is that it's 1300 in the U.S and 200 in Thailand. I wanna stay for 3 months. No more than that.

      Yes. My friends in Pattaya are paying $150/month on Jomtien Beach. By Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok my friend is paying $212/month for a NEW apartment that has a gym and pool.

    That sucks that you don't get free motorbike parking, wifi, and a balcony to dry your clothes. In Phnom Penh, Cambodia a beautiful fully furnished apartment with free parking, wifi, and a balcony is $115/month.

      That's totally possible. When I worked in Penang, Malaysia, a country to the south of Thailand, I rented a furnished 3-bedroom apartment for around $200-250 a month. It came with furniture, a stove, washing machine, TV and fridge, although they weren't top end & had been well used. And a car space. Malaysia's also more expensive than Thailand.

    It's very basic, but you pay for what you get and it is well worth $80. If you are willing to pay about $150 a month you should check out PP Condos they have modern rooms with partitioned off areas for bed so it doesn't seem like a studio, and an area with a sofa and flat screen tv and also a full modern kitchen, some of them are really smart for the money and they do have smaller rooms for similar money to what you pay now.

    No balcony though .That would be a deal breaker for me .That was 4 years ago ,but rents have gone down since then if anything but the Baht has got stronger .I was renting a similar place around the same time but 10 km out of town in Sansai (N.E. of the old City ) for B2,000 a month with balcony .

    The ladies who perform the massage have NO training. They just wing it. Some do ok but cause serious pain when they try to apply pressure to ligament or bone close to the skin. In the US a masseuse would be prosecuted for that. If you’re young it’s just pain. If you’re older, sick or injured the injury can be much more serious.

If I stayed for let’s say a year, is there places to buy a bow flex, do they have gyms, I’m thinking about a one year vacation to get my health in check, lose weight. My bissness is very unhealthy. But I make bank. Oilfield trucking company of 8 trucks.

    Folks you will be very hard pressed to find any apartment in Thailand for less than
    5,000 or 6,000 baht a month.....I am not saying its not possible but Thais love cheap
    decent apartments,and when they find a good one they hang on to it....
    I am just saying don't think it will be easy to find a super cheap decent place....

  • @fortuner123
    @fortuner123 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Although apartment can mean a room or set of rooms, yours is really just a room. No kitchen. Good value but people get tired of this after a while because they want a separate bedroom and some cooking facility. Having the shower over the crapper is a pain. Electricity is usually about double the normal price. If the room is cheap then you will find Thai people living in the same building who usually don't have much money and can be very noisy and scruffy. Frequently a married couple with kids will live in a room and they leave the door open with music on because they don't want to pay for the aircon. OK for a while but begins to get on your tits eventually. Seeing a foreigner using the 'laundromat' is a look down on you for Thai people. You are deemed to be a poor fucker and a Cheap Charlie. Don't befriend any of the locals, especially the men, and don't drink with them because they will find out what you have and then steal from your room when you are drinking with them. Don't trust them. They don't want to know you, they just want to relieve you of your valuables. Be careful walking in small sois at night in case you are mugged. It doesn't get reported in the press but the Thais get to hear about it. If you speak Thai like a kinder of junior school kid level then they think you are a twat. You are new to Thailand. Be careful.

    this is a typical high low end room for rent. the low low end looks the same but is 20 years old. they average 2000-3000 baht equal to 60-90 dollars. they are usually short time stay meaning 3-6 months. most are workers in the local area as welll as collage students. no kitchen but the local area usually has street food 24-7 as well ass 7-11's everywhere. definitely not middle class.

  • @wrassell1
    @wrassell1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    How much per unit of electricity? Some places can charge as much as 10 to 12B per unit it can add up if you use the aircon allot. I pay 7B, an average in my area seems to be between 7 and 9, I end up paying about 30 to 45 dollars per month.

    He forgets to tell you that if the fridge and a/c are running he pays at least another $50-60 a month for electricity and probably pays extra for water fee as well........................so the $80 a month is misleading.

  • @ThailandDantotherescue

    For everyone thinking no kitchen is a big deal, it really isn't. You can eat street food for about the same price as cooking in Thailand. There is no reason you cant buy a cooktop, rice cooker, electric tea kettle and a little folding table. When you can squeak by on hundreds of dollars a month and never have to go to a job small sacrifices will become insignificant. Spending your days at a park or a beach or with a lady friend or getting massages is what you should consider. The room is just a place to sleep, shower and get out of the rain.

    Rent a house better. You can find 2 bed house for slightly almost what you are paying but you really need to speak a little Thai. Dont go for a bugalow, find a 2 storey house and sleep down stairs, dont need aircon, just some bug spray maybe.
