+SpeaksIt I am not sure if there is a recording studio in Chiang Mai, but I do know that the city is filled with many creative people who are probably into music just like you. Also there is a sick jazz bar in CM that does open mics once a week.
hi Pat, the link does not work. I end up on your site, but it says the content has been moved or deleted. I really would like to know where this is you are staying at for 80$ a month. I am in Chiang Mai right now and I need to find a cheap place to stay for a couple of months. I'd be so greatful if you could tell me where that place is!
Hey :) here is the corrected link, sign up with your email and you will be notified when this releases. It will answer all your questions: www.truetransient.com/apartment
+True Transient Saigon. Thinking of heading for Hanoi myself in February or March. Definitely need to see the other side of Vietnam while I'm here. Keep in touch if you want to link up, always glad to see what other digital nomads are up to
When I travel alone. I'm like you. All I care is to have a very clean, quiet place to stay. I'm ok with basic as long as is safe, quiet and clean. I don't like the shower/toilet concept at all. And I would like a small kitchenette. I've seen nice apartments for 200 a month that look like any small 1 bedroom apartment from the US. The only difference is that it's 1300 in the U.S and 200 in Thailand. I wanna stay for 3 months. No more than that.
BigD Travels High cost of living means higher wages. That's why I pwn property in the bay are. When you are doing well you can afford what you need to afford. So that is an enjoyable life.
Livin the life! Don't need much when you have such a great surrounding. Not only the cheap apartment but the food is amazing and usually about $1 for a bowl of street noodles. You should do a series on different street carts! Miss yah bro
Really. These are simply hotel rooms rented by the month. Myriad New Age millennials without jobs or significant skills out marveling at massage parlors (oh my!) and fantasizing that SEAsia is vegan.
That's amazing! If you wanted to cook, you could. I did with a hot plate. Worked out fine. Also had a toaster oven that would bake anything. Nice, inexpensive place to crash. Dude's got it going on.
I love the shower / bathroom set up. it's a little strange at first but cleaning the bathroom in a BREEZE. I scrub everything down in one go, (toilet, sink, walls and floor) and then use the shower nozzle to rise.
I know that one can indeed call these minimalist rooms "apartments, but in fact they are little more than a Motel 6 efficiency or a dorm room with a small efficiency - read counter - called a kitchen. Most who are not simply 20 something and serious about actually relocating an establishing a home think of a more substantial apartment as being something akin to a living room, defined kitchen (not simply a gas burner!), bedroom, second bedroom or office, and maybe some sort of utility room in addition to a defined full bathroom. \ And this is NOT what these videos talking about "apartments cheap" are talking about!
Ow, my heart. Missing CM so hard after this video. We lived here for 6 months and are aching to go back after our Seattle money stop where a 423sq apartment costs us $1200 a month! Any plans to go back there as well?
In apartment living there, landlords are allowed to charge you almost double what the actual electric bill is. I know it happened to me. Best bet is to rent a house, the landlord gives you the actual electric bill and you pay it yourself at a 7-11.
Nice video - I actually followed the video here from StickBoy to give you some comment love ^_^ Thailand is a sweet place to live, having lived here for nearly 4 years now in BKK Keep loving it, mate
Amazing. Tell me about your background with digital design and elaborate on what you do and how you got the job. I'd like to pay 80 a month and do artsy stuff.
love that apartment for its kind of, like, simple~ feel. like even the view... not all that great. but it's got that cinematic feel you get from like, pen-ek ratanaruang films. or maybe even that kind of wong kar wai's Chungking Express kind of mood.
It's very basic, but you pay for what you get and it is well worth $80. If you are willing to pay about $150 a month you should check out PP Condos they have modern rooms with partitioned off areas for bed so it doesn't seem like a studio, and an area with a sofa and flat screen tv and also a full modern kitchen, some of them are really smart for the money and they do have smaller rooms for similar money to what you pay now.
Oh this is in my neighborhood. I have a German friend that lives at that apartment building. I live at the Huay Kaew Residence over by KSK. I love to eat at Croco's pizza regularly. Best pizza in Chiang Mai. My Studio is about 50 sq ft bigger with a balcony, microwave and coffee maker, plus we have a pool, but I also pay 5,000 baht (about $145 USD). 4,000 baht rent plus 300 for internet and usually about 700 more in electric. I have a 1 year Visa and can honestly say that I love Thailand. Seriously considering a retirement Visa when I'm old enough.
For everyone thinking no kitchen is a big deal, it really isn't. You can eat street food for about the same price as cooking in Thailand. There is no reason you cant buy a cooktop, rice cooker, electric tea kettle and a little folding table. When you can squeak by on hundreds of dollars a month and never have to go to a job small sacrifices will become insignificant. Spending your days at a park or a beach or with a lady friend or getting massages is what you should consider. The room is just a place to sleep, shower and get out of the rain.
heyy may i ask the location of this place? I am looking for a place to rent starting next month in Bangkok... so.... it would be really helpful... thank youu
Bangkok is a little more expensive than chiang mai, when I stayed in chiang mai I paid around $250for a nice room/apartment for a full month and around $50 for wifi, water and electricity totaling $300 for the month. My room did have a stove top cooker and microwave however I rarely used them as street food and restaurants where so cheap most of the time they where used to reheat some leftovers or some packet noodles and snacks etc. It is a lovely country with friendly locals and I cant wait to go back to chiang mai.
I thought it was $80 per night. That would be the right price for me. $80 per month? You've got to be joking. But then again, after I've watched the video, I don't think I want to ever stay in a place like that. But it's nice to know that you can crash somewhere for that price.
Only $80 a month?! And here I thought I was getting it cheap when I was in Bangkok & Phuket for $25 a DAY!!! I will definitely be looking for an apartment on my next trip!!!! Thanks for the video!
True. This is basically just a transient house, because it has no kitchen, no laundry area. You just sleep, take shower and nothing more, you cannot cook because there is no cooker.
+Lourdes Abuso I think the concept is that you eat out all the time because most people do. So many street vendors and small restaurants to choose from, you can eat there cheaper than making it yourself at home.
Hey Pat! So happy that I stumbled across your channel. Good stuff! Subscribed! I am in the process of liquidating my possessions and start my own personal journey. I'll check out Chiang Mai in the next few months! Hope to catch up. Keep up the great videos!
bro I think I stayed in the exact same room after you left, 2nd room from the emergency stairs on the right side facing the exit. I was there in 2017 summer. This place was amazing I miss Thailand. Are you still in Thailand?
I'm a 40 year old Canadian and I want to start living in Thailand for 6 months out of the year, snowbirding you could say, any advice for a fella who wants to live there for half the year and volunteer? Thank you kindly :)

Just found your channel, love the content so far! I'm planning a long-term solo vagabond starting this summer. This definitely seems like the way to go, not only is renting an apt usually way cheaper than hostels, but you have your own living space which I'm sure is nice. 2 questions: Do you usually live under the 3 month tourist visa in most places, or do you push for a visitor visa or some other kind? Second, have you ever dabbled with housesitting? This seems like the way to go in more expensive countries, eliminating shelter expenses from the budget.
Budget AT LEAST $250 a month...unless your fantasy "apartment"(sic) is akin to a dorm room or a Motel 6 hotel room. .Take if from someone who has lived in Asian for the past 8 years.
Great Video Bro, there are so many questions I have personally. Beside your Complete Guide for Cheap Apartments, I was thinking about bringing up the idea for you to put out a newsletter, and for maybe a couple bucks a month, guys like me who are considering moving to Thailand might really need and enjoy? Perhaps, you are not interested in doing that but it would be a valuable asset to have before moving, and even an edition for people who already live there could benefit from your experiences and insights? Just a thought, anyway, I wish you great fun and much happiness.
No balcony though .That would be a deal breaker for me .That was 4 years ago ,but rents have gone down since then if anything but the Baht has got stronger .I was renting a similar place around the same time but 10 km out of town in Sansai (N.E. of the old City ) for B2,000 a month with balcony .
Bro, it is 2020 i see places that r insane with like pools, gyms and even breakfast included on airbnb for like 150-300 dollars per month. It is unbelievable!!!

First time watcher, subscribed, even opted for notifications... Lol Very impressive! I've been planning my trip to Thailand for about 3 months and I am getting nowhere (not that bad, but that good). If you get time, I'd love to interrogate you... Lol **APPLAUSE**
That's awesome you're an artist. I'm an animator and I plan on giving the digital nomad life a test run this year to see how feasible it is. I knew the cost of living was cheap there, but $80 a month would be amazing.
Some new interviews done here - Hitchhiking tip video I filmed in Chiang Mai - a travel video in the northern Thailand mountain. Filming a Hitchhiking trip in the near future. Thanks for following !
Yes. My friends in Pattaya are paying $150/month on Jomtien Beach. By Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok my friend is paying $212/month for a NEW apartment that has a gym and pool.
I like how you think that having the most important info about living in another country as a digital nomad should be found in random comments rather than the video.
All this time you've been complaining you could've asked the questions you needed answered. Seems like the complaining is more important to you. Hopeless..
Well yes, I'm making use of Internet's inherent means of delivering (in this case, very valid) criticism. However it looks like not many people can take it that well and instead resort to passive aggressive insults.
Ahhhh I have been wanting to do this and feel I am finally on the very of dropping my life and traveling across the world. Wishing I had been more interested in the tech world. I would love to work remotely or be creating my own innovative website or application of some sort. I may be leaving to Bali in April... The real question do I quit my job and just stay? 1/2 the battle is affording the flight so why come right back!?! You're adorable I'll definitely be checking in on True Transient. Keep doing your thing! 😘
I have an apartment in Bangkok (which I don’t live in) and its my mom rents it to people for 30k Baht a month (about 1k usd) and it is only a little bit bigger than this.
I'm going to retire in about a year and will be spending winters in SE Asia.. I've been to Phuket a couple times and liked it, but the visa requirements seem like they'd be a pain... I think I'll use Cambodia as my home base for the easy visa, then just fly to Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, etc..thanks for the video....I'll need to check out your other videos...
So awesome and for $80?!?!? What was the necessary steps you took to move to Thailand...I'm thinking about moving outside the U.S. and can you survive working as a waiter or maybe other jobs that are not "high" paying? Thanks!!!
loving your videos so far as i plan my next long term travel adventure!!.. q for ya.. what camera do you use to film your videos? im a life coach and already record videos (which you can find on my page:)) so i plan to continue doing them as travel through too :) searching the best option :)
What is the address of this apartment building? What is its name? Do you have to sign a lease? How long is the lease? How long can an American like me live in Thailand? How to extend a visa?
+jabo2121 CM has a pretty large population of other digital nomads, it's also a bit less expensive than close to the ocean. Before Thailand, I was out in Hawaii for 3 months so I was ready for some mountains instead of beaches.
Hey man great video, how is the crime rate there? I've been to places down there that don't mess around, are you ever worried about coming back to your apartment with your door kicked down and all your stuff missing
Hello brother, how are you doing? Thank you for that information, but which area are you living in? And what is your advice to someone who wants to come to Thailand to work, and what type of visa he /she have to apply for ?
Thanks for sharing your experience(s) on TH-cam! Did you have to get a specific VISA to secure the apartment? If so, could you elaborate on that process? Thanks again!
No specific visa required. I was on a tourist visa. The apartment manager never even asked for much information other than my passport info. Thanks for watching!
Where is apartment exactly? Electric, water, Included? Great rate! Deposit? I assume this is a predominantly Thai neighborhood, not many foreigners. 👍🇨🇷
How much per unit of electricity? Some places can charge as much as 10 to 12B per unit it can add up if you use the aircon allot. I pay 7B, an average in my area seems to be between 7 and 9, I end up paying about 30 to 45 dollars per month.
great video, how long can one stay there on just regular travel. i assume its like 6 months? i plan to stay in my country for 6 months then during winters, go live in these countries for cheap. im still new to this but am trying to learn and be able to sustain myself. how does the idea sound?
Hey there. What' the background music please, it's superchill 😎 In any case, all the very best and many greetings from Munich, Germany (soon to be cold again boohoo😢)
pre planning my trip either going with Malaysia or Thailand? Cell Phone usage, Internet in apartment, Laundry. Oh do I have to find an agent for apartment rental or do is there a realtor or book on apartment finding? How long did you have to wait before moving in?
+Emerson Nolan I only have experience in Thailand so far, I've never been to Malaysia. Get a sim card for your cell phone at any 7Eleven (they are everywhere here) - Some apartments offer wifi included in the rent, sometimes its crappy sometimes its good. Laundry spots are everywhere here, very cheap (20 baht per kilo of laundry). I've never had an urge to hire someone to rent an apartment for me. You basically just walk up and ask the person in front of the apartment how much it is. I've waited a week to move in and I've moved in the next day at some places. I will be making more videos touching on these subjects as I feel like a lot of people will gain value from them.
subbed, nice camera work. love Thailand, i'm planning on retirement in maybe Phuket, so my $3000 monthly budget will get me a nice villa with a pool and get to eat out every night?
you are going to live like a king. I've spent about 2 years in thailand. I would recommend moving to krabi rather than phuket. It's far more relaxed. if you announce your monthly budget in a bar the girls will be around u like vultures.

I just saw your video. It's nice. A friend of mine Tony retired in changmi. Hope someday we can catch up. Till then. Bye
WTF? A graphic designer that get's paid at least $80 a month?! That's strange...
+Taylor you wish
@Taylor lmao keep dreaming
@Taylor Who is Beyonce? $7K per month is quite crappy, is it part time?

Very impressive! I've been planning my trip to Thailand for about 3 months and I am getting nowhere (not that bad, but that good).
If you get time, I'd love to interrogate you... Lol
**APPLAUSE**
That's awesome you're an artist. I'm an animator and I plan on giving the digital nomad life a test run this year to see how feasible it is.
I knew the cost of living was cheap there, but $80 a month would be amazing.
Great work...keep it up. If you can, show us some more cheap places to stay.
I hope those pups are healthy.
thats amazing. ive been highly considering moving to thailand and this video pushed me a bit further to go:)
Where is your Laundry Area located?
What kind of videos can I expect from Thailand, when are you going to hitchhike again?
Some new interviews done here - Hitchhiking tip video I filmed in Chiang Mai - a travel video in the northern Thailand mountain. Filming a Hitchhiking trip in the near future. Thanks for following !
Yes! please, show us more places, pkease. We will keep following you
Is the cost of living in Chiang Mai less than pattaya or bangkok?
Yes. My friends in Pattaya are paying $150/month on Jomtien Beach. By Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok my friend is paying $212/month for a NEW apartment that has a gym and pool.
Thanks for sharing, I like your videos
thanks for sharing info, well it is so cheap
I like how you say being a "digital nomad" but completely disregard mentioning Wifi, Internet speed or whatsoever in your apartment.
I like how you could've asked me about those things in this comment but instead chose to criticize a stranger's video on the internet.

I have an apartment in Bangkok (which I don’t live in) and its my mom rents it to people for 30k Baht a month (about 1k usd) and it is only a little bit bigger than this.
yeah but its probably in central Bangkok and has a kitchen
Thank you for the tour and information on inexpensive apartments! Travel safe.
I've heard that Americans over 50 can get a pretty sweet long term visa
Where is that place located i am moving to Thailand soon and I need a place to live
Location and which building address.
The background music is so good.
So awesome and for $80?!?!? What was the necessary steps you took to move to Thailand...I'm thinking about moving outside the U.S. and can you survive working as a waiter or maybe other jobs that are not "high" paying? Thanks!!!
So cool! I will stay in Chiang Mai for 2 months and I want to find an apartment, where and how did you find yours? xxx :)

Here is a list of my camera gear: www.truetransient.com/my-camera-gear/
Thank u for your speedy response!
Junk the music, and I'd watch your other videos.
This is certainly cheap (no balcony or small terrace), but where is it in CM? I know the city well.
What is the address of this apartment building? What is its name? Do you have to sign a lease? How long is the lease? How long can an American like me live in Thailand? How to extend a visa?
Very nice, if you stick to a strict style and format of your own and do food and restaurant vlogs you'll see your subscribers skyrocket!
+ALIEN SCIENTIST says the guy with a whole 37 subscribers!
nice vid, I think you got yourself a good deal. just wondering, why chiang mai versus say pattaya or somewhere closer to the ocean?
+jabo2121 CM has a pretty large population of other digital nomads, it's also a bit less expensive than close to the ocean. Before Thailand, I was out in Hawaii for 3 months so I was ready for some mountains instead of beaches.
Hey man great video, how is the crime rate there? I've been to places down there that don't mess around, are you ever worried about coming back to your apartment with your door kicked down and all your stuff missing
Chiang Mai is very safe in my experience and all the travelers who I met had the same opinion. It's a big reason why CM is such a hotspot for nomads
Hello brother, how are you doing? Thank you for that information, but which area are you living in? And what is your advice to someone who wants to come to Thailand to work, and what type of visa he /she have to apply for ?
Name of the apartment building? Is water and elec included? Any extra fees, basically. Nice vid by the way.
+True Transient Wow, thanks for the quick reply! Good to know! Thank you!
@@PatDaley i still need advice about bkk thnx
Where is apartment exactly? Electric, water, Included? Great rate! Deposit? I assume this is a predominantly Thai neighborhood, not many foreigners. 👍🇨🇷
Santitham area
@@PatDaley 👍
How much per unit of electricity? Some places can charge as much as 10 to 12B per unit it can add up if you use the aircon allot. I pay 7B, an average in my area seems to be between 7 and 9, I end up paying about 30 to 45 dollars per month.
damn looks cool! Just one question....with no kitchen do you have to eat out ALL of your meals???
+Brandon Tackett Yeah I love it. I hate cooking.
Serious question - does the AC work , like does it pump ice cold air or do you feel hot and sticky year 'round?
A/C worked almost too well
How did you find the apartments? Love your videos
Is it Bangkok? What neighborhood? How did u find this apartment? English speaking newspaper ? Thank you
Really cool. Do you still live in Thailand? I'm a new subscriber. ✌️👍
Thanks for subbing! I live in Orlando, Florida now.
great video, how long can one stay there on just regular travel. i assume its like 6 months? i plan to stay in my country for 6 months then during winters, go live in these countries for cheap. im still new to this but am trying to learn and be able to sustain myself. how does the idea sound?
yep $80 Apartment and the rest go to massages happy endings lol 5555
Have you thought about commuting from Thailand to CA for work? You can save A LOT. Just saying.... :)
I want to move there . Would you be willing to advise the most safe and cheapestt place to live?
Hi, your $80.00 a month, does it include electricity ?
electricity Pay yourself
IT is. Very funny. People, not understand why there is No kitchen
Enjoyed, living on SSDI, in the USA. 60 Year old man lost everything. Will I, make it starting a new life.
Yes, of course. +3 meals a day and a massage per month :)
Hey there. What' the background music please, it's superchill 😎 In any case, all the very best and many greetings from Munich, Germany (soon to be cold again boohoo😢)
azure - vanilla :)
Twlling us the prices, that is so helpful, thank you !
pre planning my trip either going with Malaysia or Thailand?
Thanks for the reply,
my wife will be pleased!
