it's not illegal to steal rob rape murder seriously hurt someone in Thailand if you are in the Thai mafia especially on Death island kao tao I think that's how you spell it many tourists are murdered in the land of smiles but the police just cover it up that's a fact
I went to Thailand a few years ago when I was 17 and they were more than fine with underage drinking. On the Khao San road in Bangkok there were even bars which said "We accept fake ID" and people selling them opposite, police didn't care.
About the Buddha statues and pictures, I´m pretty sure that the law is only about antiques. There are a lot of brand new, mass produced Buddha items in Thailand that you are allowed to bring home.
Paulo Gaeta Yeah I was wondering why.... that makes a little more sense then. I imagine Buddhist iconography must be a big part of the tourist industry there, so it was strange for me to hear you can't. Specially for the more mass produced stuff.
No images of Buddha are legally allowed out and no Buddha tattoos. Thailand is 98% Buddhist and a friendly place that commands respect and honesty or...don't go there.
It is 500 per day up to 20000 Max. as far as lengthy overstay - 20000 Baht is the MAX no matter how long you overstay! Just an FYI! However if caught you will be jailed and you will have to return to your country of origin (not just a country of your choice, this is part of immigration law), and have a ticket or get one before you are escorted to the airport by the Immigration authority, once at the airport you will remain in a holding cell, and walked to the gate, by an immigration officer, to make sure you get on the plane. If you do not have or cannot obtain an airline ticket home, you remain in jail until you do so. (learned the above from experience) also just an FYI, you can and should contact your embassy, they will in the case of U.S. citizens give you a repatriation loan, and that will get you a ticket back home, which will have to be repaid, with extremely high interest, and your passport will be reduced to 1 year, after you have repaid the loan, trust me, DO NOT OVERSTAY your visa in Thailand, even 1 day will get you 2-3 months in jail, before you are deported, Thai jail is no joke, it is not the Hilton, it is hot, food is terrible, and you will regret ever letting your visa lapse, and may get robbed of your valuables on the first day you are there (again I witnessed this happen, I speak Thai, so I avoided that) there is no Air-Con, no mattress to sleep on, just a hard cement floor and do to the lack of space you may be in a cell made for 20 people, but will have 30-40 people in it. I know I pained a bleak picture here, but it is a fact .
Wherever we go to any country, we have to smile , respect & friendly. Don't ever break he law. Any country have their law. So it shouldn't be any problem at all
shirtless on a motorcycle is also a problem. and one that is likely to be broken because it is so natural to try and get a tan or stay cool while you're riding.
You mentioned 'not defacing' pictures (or whatever) of the King/Royal family, but the same is also true of Bhudda. Any images or statues whatever, Don't disrespect them!
Glenn Momeyer Lol. Your country is free and democratic? I don't know of any such country on this earth. Most Western countries are now burdened with having to pay out a huge welfare bill. Most Western countries are burdened with immigrants. Free speech is no longer possible in any Western country because of political correctness. Did you vote to pay for your country's spongers? Did you vote to have foreigners in your country? Did you vote to be silenced by the pc brigade? Thailand is for Thais. They look after their own. You won't find foreigners living in Thailand off Thai taxpayer's money. You won't find foreigners protesting against Thai society or laws. You won't find foreigners taking Thai jobs. You might dislike many things about Thailand, but your country is far from perfect, and getting more imperfect day by day.
y2gether No. Red shirts are not communists, they're socialists, or social democrats. The Thaksins are no more corrupt than many other rich Thais. Thailand is once again under the rule of a military dictatorship, which no one voted for. Problems for the government in Thailand started when they tried paying poor farmworkers more for their rice. This only works if those buying rice accept a smaller profit. This is never the case. Thailand couldn't sell its rice, so couldn't then pay its farmers. Same thing is happening in the Western world. People want more pay than their job is worth. This is ok, pay a minimum wage of whatever you like, but don't expect that you'll be in business long as you won't be able to compete with lower paying competitors.
y2gether A king of Thailand once stated that every Thai should have a certain amount of rai to farm rice and a pond to raise fish. That way all Thais should be happy with their life and no Thai would go hungry. Unfortunately, people aspire to improve their lives and that of their children. How could they achieve this under such a system? A communist would say exactly the same thing as this king. But always, those at the top have a better life, a better life earned from the hard work of those poorer people in society.
I lived in Thailand for 2 years as it seems you have also Thailand. I still spend about 70 days a year there. I have a Thai Girlfriend so I spend a lot of time in Bangkok. I have a few "Things not to do" and a few comments about what you mentioned. Some may be just a personal thing and not a legal thing. Some may be a cultural thing that some uptight people follow to the point of being just stupid. Also Thailand is a very Male orientated society. Males first kind of thing so some laws or customs may be for Women only. 1. In 2014/15 I heard they passed a law that foreigners didn't have to carry their passport but it's always a good idea to carry a copy. 2. Overstay. You mentioned 500 Baht fine for each day over. I overstayed one day. I went to immigration a few days before to get extended. An Immigration Officer told me it was not problem no fine, no delay at the Airport. Turned out it wasn't exactly true. There was no fine but I was pulled aside by an Immigration Officer who seemed a bit upset, a new arrival card completed, slapped on the wrist and told never do this again. I have made several border runs on a few I was a day late and I was charged 500 baht. A friend over stayed months. He turned his self in, was arrested, went to court, put on a plane in handcuffs and sent home. My advice obviously is don't over stay. 3. Going Commando. I was told it was women that couldn't go commando. Some skirts were very short so use your imagination why there is a law. 4. Being Loud. This may be true for some people. But like many Countries loud people in a bar are annoying but if Thai's hate noise so much why do they allow vehicles driving around with a loud speak mounted on top blaring loud advertisements for some product or the next Muay Thai Fight? 5. As someone mentioned previously, Jet Ski's. If you rent one on the beach be sure to inspect it thoroughly. A little scratch in it from something previously may get blamed on you. Goes for motorbikes also. 6. Standing on money. may or may not be a law, I really don't know but from a cultural standpoint it can be a no no. This has to do with respect towards the King. The stupid thing about this is I've talked to a Thai man. He said it was stupid, Thai's don't seem to consider a man putting money in a wallet in his back pocket next to his Ass or a woman sticking money in her Bra next to her breast. In Thailand it seems Ignorance is bliss. 7. Seems like only someone living and working at a temple knows this. My Thai friends didn't know. Stepping on a shadow cast by a Buddha Statue is disrespectful. 8. Definitely talking bad about the Royal Family can get you in trouble. 9. Pointing your toes at someone is like saying "F_ck You!" Okay I can understand intentionally pointing your toes can bad but when this is stupid is when it's unintentional. I was once laying in a floor with my feet pointing towards the TV. The King came on and my then wife said I needed to move my feet as I was pointing my toes at the King. To me this is stupid.
Thank you for going true some laws in Thailand . its always great to get a reminder. Some of them are easy, but if 10 Pound falls on the floor, you normally step on it. Its smart to remember that its not ok to do that. And to make fun or do anything bad to the picture of the Royal family is not a good idea. have a nice week. Look forward to get back to the sunny smiling Thailand again
VAPING !!! Vaping in public, or getting caught with a Vaporizer is a ฿100,000 fine! Yes, one hundred Thousand baht! My lawyer says he sees those tickets more often than one would think! Thailand's Awesome - just keep it indoors, and be cool and respectful in public!
True. I was sitting in a bar in Pattya, happily vaping away one night. An Australian guy came over and told me how his friend was caught walking down the street vaping, and was hauled off to jail and paid an exhorbitant fine. Convinced, I broke my vow not to smoke and switched to conventional cigarettes for the remainder of the trip.
@@maozedong2186, basically mighty Big Tobacco has greased enough local politicians to make them legislate against the competition. Thai authorities officially motivate the vape ban with concern for youth protection.
Good advice about being a lad and loud mouthed. I'm from Australia and we too don't like too much loud mouthed carrying on. We may have the reputation thirty years ago but we are not like that really. Especially now with so many Asians we keep very quiet in public. The thing is we aren't as unified as the Thais so many lads think while away having fun with no one telling them to keep it down it is ok. I think anyone going to any other country should always be respectful of the locals. Too often it's young people testing their freedom for the first time and end up getting into trouble.
As Thais, I personally never heard about No.6. That’s so funny! Honestly, most of the things you have mentioned here are more about our norms rather than law. Drug is definitely illegal, not only in my country but the other as well. If you want to take risk, you shouldn’t blame. Also, you know police is always tricky in every country cuz money is the only thing they want. So....what I would love to suggest you guys are respecting our culture and following their rules. Thanks for sharing these information.
You can go to a kodak photo/copy shop and they will make a wallet size copy of your passport ID page and the visa/entry stamp on the reverse side for around 100baht. This should suffice for most ID purposes.
it is much easy to make a picture of your passport; Page with your name and picture; picture of stamps ( visa) ant the one you get by entering Thailand and the little note you need to get out of thailand and make a little map in your cellphone ( and tablet too) - If you behave yourself the police do not ask you about your passport ( or iD)
Hey bro hope you are well and having a great start to the week. Just found you today and really pleased we have your videos are awesome bro. We are coming to Thailand in November for the very first time it's a dream come true just hope it's all back to normal by then. Your tips and hints are fantastic bro really appreciate your insight. Take care and stay safe my friend catch up soon God bless you 🙏❤️👍
Hi, Im Malaysian... I have been to Thailand 20-30 times. Staying there for over 4 months. There is one BIGGEST rule you should be very aware of. Cutting the jungle (logging) is the consider biggest crime of all. You re stealing from the King and the people. If you re caught with a chainsaw in a jungle...Believe me, you'll pray that you get caught with one illegal .38 or 9mm gun in your pocket rathet than a chainsaw. I heard hunting is also consider biggest crime... because there are certain forest which is declare King's Land. In southern Thailand, there are insurgency. Please be careful not to talk about some history if Southern Thailand.... just consider every walls have ears. Thank you.
All these things that you have listed here, are neither strange nor unusual, nor unexpected IF - and, sadly, this is a very big IF - you have been correctly brought up and somebody has taken care of teaching you GOOD MANNERS. Enough said.
i would say dont rent anything..... use public transport or ones that are driven by a local.... they scam you like anything.... these Thais are a bunch of scammers....
Why go there what a fuck up country always scamming even all the girls I would never go there go to the Philippines they never do that most owned by Americans 50 per hour I own 2 and the Filipino that rents them for me is great I make a lot of money 2000 a day
Many american soldiers went on leave in Thailand have an uncle who volunteered all the way from Norway he said Bangkok was amazing for a young soldier, and many boys shall we say became men in Bangkok.
I'm aware of these laws but for someone who isn't this is a great informational vlog! Number 10 is never a problem for me, I prefer the quiet spots away from tourists.
Yeah I overstayed my visa because I’m in jail for spitting chewing gum, while free balling, and being noisy, all at the same time. When they let me out they put me straight back in for overstaying my visa.Wish I saw this video before I went.
To add my personal experience here. in 2000 I came in from Malaysia and sailed to Phuket. Because I came overland you only get 14 days VISA and so not knowing I actually overstayed 14 days, before I went to the immigration to apply for another 14 days. I followed the procedure but when the immigration agents realized that I had overstayed my Visa by 14 days, he dropped everything and stood up from his chair and shouted at me, calling me an illegal alien and wanted me jailed immediately, unless I paid a fine of 75oo baht. I was not even allowed to go to a teller machine. I did not have that much cash on me, and it was only through the generosity of my Dutch friend who happen to have that much cash with him to deposit in his bank, that I was released and able to avoid detention. No Joke guys, this is serious. I was told of foreigners being hauled in Jail at the Airport because they did not have the money to pay the fines. Cheers
All these hoary tales make me wanna just stay HERE in good old USA. For better or worse i pretty much know the deal. Without some wild-west Asian adventure including jail and maybe missing organs, for all i know WTF! Who needs it meh
I thought this was gonna be another load of bollocks (like most of the others on the subject on You tube). But it’s actually quite good, worth watching and every point is actually valid. Well Done 👍
In France, it's not allowed to smoke in all indoor public places, it's forbidden to phone when driving and it is strongly advised not to comment on women's shape :-) Good video, mate!
I lived in a county in Virginia (United States) that still had morality laws in place. No cohabitation or intercourse before marriage. Both punishable with jail time.
@@roxylamour1119 The notion when those laws were put in place was that a woman should be a virgin until she was married. If suspected of sex before marriage, a woman would be required to allow a clergyman and a midwife examine her genitals to verify that her "maiden head" was intact. To say the least, it was a bizarre and archaic set of laws to have on the books in the 2000s.
They are serious about the less majesty laws in Thailand. You can be put in jail for even saying true things that are not flattering of royalty. Even clicking a like button on Facebook or TH-cam can land you on the wrong side of the law there. The United States of America is unique that we take our free speech so seriously that it is enshrined in the constitution.
Hahaha! This dude right here! XD Freedom of speech is ONLY on paper. I personally know people who have almost gone to jail for paining a canvas at an occupy gathering back when that was a thing.. Then they later told me about it.. They got 2 years of probation and were told if they tell anyone they'll actually go to jail. The people with green cards got their green cards taken away and deported on the spot. Also have hear of acquaintances who upon coming back to the country got their phone broken into at the airport and got into a lot of trouble for liking anti american govt things on Facebook.. Murican freedoms!! XD XD XD Good thing the popular culture brainwash upbringing worked! :D
Wrong you can buy and carry out Buddha statue, art, jewelry with Buddha image on it. I had a 4 foot tall stone carved Buddha statue shipped from Thailand to USA. It’s just ancient antiques that you should not purchase and try to take out of the country.
I have been anxious to visit Thailand for many years as part of my "bucket list" yet the more I find out about it (from people who live there) the more I think I would rather visit somewhere else.
Good video.... I knew about some of the laws, but a few I didn't 👍 also good advice on being loud and boisterous, I've seen a couple of ugly situations there were foreigners got into confrontations with Thais and it all started with people just basically not being respectful. Like you said, have fun but be chill about things and enjoy.
Number 5 is particularly difficult for me, as I've been going out and about that way for many years now. It's just more comfortable to me! Plus one less item of clothing to pack around and keep clean while travelling!!
Less BS in Vietnam? Are you shitting me? Vietnam is scam central. You can't walk ten feet without being harassed within ten miles of a tourist attraction. I was there for two months and within a week was wearing headphones, sunglasses and low slung hat and ignoring everyone who tried to talk to me. You will get cheated at virtually ever opportunity. Thailand is way more developed, has way more experience with foreigners and, sure has it's own scam problems, but Thailand is an easy no brainer between the two. 5% of tourists return to Vietnam for a 2nd visit. Thailand has a 40% return rate.
@@thisisreallyverysilly yeah agree but they are not aggressive at all , I mean in vnam, just annoying a bit that for sure. Cambodians are far more chilled out and easy going. Though v nam is worth a visit
VERY VERY IMPORTANT: When packing your bags for your holidays in Thailand NEVER forget to bring your BRAIN along. Some Thai laws and some Thai traditions, are much more similar to your own then you expect, if you visit any country assuming the contrary, respectfully, i would suggest that it would be more appropriate that you limit your excursions to your local attractions.... What Scotty advises any visitors to Thailand, I would believe that, reasonably , would mirror any advises he would give any visitors to his own country. P.S. even when visiting your local attractions , it is expected that you bring your BRAIN along. Am I elaborating the same principles as You, Scotty?
Most of those laws would be applicable in UK either legally or morally. The only odd ones were driving topless, leaving the country with a bhudda and carrying ID. In UK we're more relaxed about actual drug use, we're not going to jail for carrying small amounts for personal use unless there's previous history, so it's a good reminder not all countries are so tolerant. Same with our weekend rowdy drinking behaviour, not a good idea to mess with the monks or strip off and have a selfie taken with the king. As for spitting gum on the pavement, please do jail them.
I'm Swedish but live in koh lanta, Thailand since about 5 years now and the best way to stay safe is to just be polite, use common sense, a helmet if you drive mc, and try to smile and be discrete with about everything and you'll be fine. The police likes to relax with ganja too so at the end of the day... They're only humans and if you like to for example smoke some weed?.. Just be polite, descrete and respectful. You're probably gonna get many real Thai friends who'll open up their real lives then and with friends you're gonna feel and be more secure and you can be OK if you do something wrong by mistake. But the no 1 I learned is that they're VERY proud people and they love to have farang friends who doesn't try to play mangas
No1 Death sentence just for (very big) drugs dealer. it's not like every one who take drugs will get death sentence. but i totally agree that you should not involve with drugs in any case. No2 Not true, IT's not a law, If there is a necessity, such as coin is rolling on street or the banknote is blown away by the wind and you must stop it by stepping on it.just do it, no one blame you, and it's not violates any law. But if it is a blatant expression that you deliberately do so to insult the king, that violates libelous law. No3 true No4 true No5 Not true, It's not the point that you're wearing your underpants or not. if you dont wear underpants but you wear normal pants, it's ok. but if you don't wear underpants and your pants is thin cloth or spandex, that's may violates obscene law. it's common sense and i think every contries be like this, nothing strange. No6 Topless in public is forbid for women. for men, may be blamed for impolite but not violates the law. No7 If it's real antique, but i think all that sold to tourist are just a fake for souvenirs. You can not expect the real antique to be sold in the general store. and if it's just a fake souvenirs, you don't need any permit. No8 True ,but the fine just about 500 Bath or about 10$. No9 true but, Isn't every country be like this? No10 it's depend on situation. just use common sense, what situation you can make fun with loud noisy and what situation you should not.
thaksin killed plenty of streetrunners...cold smile thai style headshot ...bewildering knowing that one if the incomestreams of thai cops is to plant drugs in your bag while searches...a little slide of hand costs u 100000 usd cash and on the spot or u check in a rat hole and wait for the bullet...no joke..
Thanks for the videos! Really useful and informative. Video suggestion. Getting a phone Talk about what sim cards can get. Prices, contracts, speed, data limits, best providers, comparison to UK phones, how call abroad - normal call or WhatsApp, Skype etc.
"Thais don't like noise" Really? Frigging hell I never knew noise until I married a southern Thai lady 16 years ago! Maybe it's the boisterous (or lewd) behaviour you mention... There are very few places in Thailand that I'd describe as quiet or relaxing. In the last 17 years of coming to Thailand; 1-5 times per year, I've never been stopped on the street by any authorities and asked to produce my passport. Although I always carry a photocopy of my passport photo page and have pictures of it, my visa and entry stamp on my phone. Are you aware of how Thais think about beards? Gillette and Bic are readily available everywhere
Carrying around a color copy of your passport is not compliant to the law but it does help. Though it depends on the mood of the cop. If you do carry a copy, most Thai cops (those not in a pissy mood) will look at your copy and then escort you back to your hotel so they can see your real passport. However, if you're unlucky enough to get a grumpy or strict cop, carrying just a copy could mean extra trouble/hassle (maybe a fine). * what also helps is for you to ask your hotel to print you a copy the page with your visa stamp/entry date in addition to your front page.
Absolute BS! Going through heavy security to enter the Royal Palace last month, my black and white copy was excepted. My driving licence is good enough for the Police in traffic stops, as the car is registered in my name.
@TheBeaumarisEcho Hello. So if i do happen to get into a run in with the cops in Thailand, a black and white copy of my passport is all I need? You say earlier that Thai law requires me to carry my passport but Swaps says that carrying a copy is enough, but you say that's BS. But then you say that carrying a copy is excepted. I dont get what you're saying. Can you please clarify clearly what is best: carrying Passport or Copy of Passport. Which one?
If you're out and about and stopped for a traffic check, no Thai Policeman would 'escort' you back to your hotel, I was stopped several times, routine traffic stops, remember they cant see you through anodized windows to see if your Thai or not, and all they did was ask to see my driving licence, grumpy strict cops? never had a problem with Thai Police. I was quoting the Law, not the common practice.
he needs to be more specific and realistic about "laws" drugs?? many people in thailand smoke weed and you dont get locked up by doing that but you can get locked up if you sell it. so as long as you are a buyer and smoke inside a house its okay. even if you get caught smoking weed you only get locked up for less than 50 days you will never get a death penalty on smoking a joint or blunt of weed.
They have no sense of humor at all when it comes to drugs. In Thai court, your respectability is also on trial. Lawyers have to defend your reputation as much as defend against the charges. When you appear in court on any drug related charge, the lawyer can't do much to improve your reputation in the eyes of the court. If you are caught in physical possession of drugs, you are screwed, and they give stiff sentences even for a joint of weed. If you want to get high on vacation, SE Asia is really not the place to go for that. Go to Amsterdam, perhaps? Drugs are a bad idea when in your own country, but they can be a very tough lesson when you are in a foreign country. I see that Las Vegas has legal weed now, and they have cheap flights within the US.
A buddy of mine got set up by a police officer in Bangkok to purchase weed and was immediately arrested. He was able to buy his freedom back for about $1000 without having to see the inside of a prison cell. Of course, if you get busted when there isn't a scheme to extract your money in place, it's a whole other story.
Keep a photo of your passport on your phone. In many cases, such as ID for a club, this will be sufficient, although obviously it’ll be at the discretion of the person you’re dealing with
We always bring a Buddha statue back with us, (not an antique), and we have them blessed at the Temple, we are Buddhists and we use them for worship at home in the UK. Never had a problem in over 25 journeys.
I read if you are in Thailand and you leave the day your time expires, you can fly to another country nearby for a day or two, then you can come back for another month. Is that true? read it's easier than getting an extension on your stay
I wouldn't have any intention to break Thai laws, but nevertheless, I would not go there, or anywhere else where they still have the death penalty, even for offences that are neither lethal, nor do they have caused severe and permanent injury. I don't like DRACONIAN LAWS, I prefer countries with HUMANE legislation. For me LENIENCY is a definite sign of trully civilised societies.
speaking of laws that are not really enforced but are still on the books, did you know that the law against Adultery is still on the books here in Canada, even though a person cannot be sent to jail anymore, but the law against it has not been taken away, how far we have come from the time when if you were caught committing adultery, you could go to jail, and in the far past in Europe, people actually got the death penalty for Adultery, good thing that isn't any longer in forced, or there would be even fewer Europeans then there are, being as they don't have children hardly any more and they are very immoral, In Europe, especially France where it doesn't seem to be a big deal for a man or woman to have lovers, when they are married, then I ask, why marry? if they don't intend to remain faithful to one person?? at least here in my country adultery is still frowned upon, and adulterers are not exactly the most popular people to associate with.
ALSO: You cannot purchase a Pay and Go Mobile SIM [Example: for cheap internet on phone] unless you register your Passport wherever you purchase the Sim: Strange but FACT: Been there: Done it:
Omg Scotty, I watched this video this morning in Ao Nang then we took a longboat to Railay. I'm sure i saw you chatting to a guy at the entrance to Railay Beach resort?...bout 13:30 ? 13/1/20?
I'm 53 years old and in my entire life I have never "stood on money". I never would have even dreamed that was a thing. It's 2017 and it appears a lot of humans are really really stupid. Why would you even do that?!? Stand on money? I thought it was a euphemism for something....nope, he really means "don't throw money on the ground and stomp on it like a nutter." Weird that you have to tell someone that. In any country.
Hi, lm 70 and not so flexible as l was.. last year on a very windy day in a market in Thailand I dropped a 100 bht note, reflex made me try to pin it with my foot.. l missed and a lady store keeper picked it up for me and by finger wagging and head shaking she explained...a lesson learned.. l stayed for 3 months, wonderful country and people.
Some guy burnt a note which had the King's head on it in a bar showing off, he didn't get fined but could have. In the U.K. it is illegal to deface a coin of the realm , so most of this speculation is not all what it seem's, The Royal Family are revered here and just don't do anything that would seem to be viewed to be disrespectful as you could find yourself in trouble. He pleaded ignorance of the law and apologised and the Police let him off with a caution, so not as portrayed but sometimes when they try to be helpful it is misunderstood.
Half of these aren't even laws... and the other half the poster is unsure of and only just heard about??? This is not factual because it is not 100% correct. A lot of opinion, interpretation and speculation.
This video is one of your best so far! Loved it. There aren't a lot of videos like this out there of laws for different countries. Would be great if you made them for other places you visit in the future!
+Scotty Does Australia would be great, I'm heading there in September to start my WHV (all thanks to Alys videos) I heard you can't buy from liquor stores there after 10pm. I live in Canada and our liquor stores are open until 2am!
Stores won't sell you alcohol between midnight & 11am, or between 2pm & 5pm. No such rule in bars & restaurants. There are a couple of religious days during the year when sale of alcohol is prohibited also.
It's the law, you could probably find a Mom and Pop store that isn't computerized to sell you a bottle, but not the 7-11, or chain store. We found that we "planned ahead" :)
Yet another tourist trying to make it work for him making videos of anything with a loose interpretation of accuracy .Very dangerous concerning the Law and Laws.
why is it forbidden to buy a little bit of weed in thailand. Alcohol is no problem whatsoever but harmless bit of relaxing weed is. i am so confused about the logic of it.
C Johnson Don't be daft. It is the most productive plant in the world and a medicine . It is all about perception. The west demonized it cause it has far too many benefits that cannot be taxed til now. It is all about government revenue. People who grow their own can avoid paying tax on alcohol and spending money on medicine. Weed is natural, alcohol is a man made drug. No one ever died from weed yet there are millions who die every year from alcohol. Weed kills cancer by the way. Look it up... And get over yourself.
Gutten Tag Not at all. Just the truth. Weed cures no cancers. Never has, never will. It's useful only in its ability to help ease the side effects caused by cancer therapies. Now, let's return go my question, what did Bob Marley die from?
The don't litter one is hilarious, the place is filthy. As is don't be noisy while drinking, Take a trip outside bangkok and go to a place where there are no tourists and see how Thais actually are when drinking. This is like a list of things a foreigner who's been here for six months would come up with.
Free willy! 😀 just don't wear sweat pants or loose garment. Or maybe you can wear a long t-shirt to cover it. You're not going to get arrested for going commando. But if you're intentionality flopping your junk around, you will get called out and police might be called to give you a warning...no arrest.
As most of you said it's common sense or respect but the thing is those 2 things is in short supply in most other countries with graffiti or tagging being common place and thinking carrying like a tool is ok, Then they are in for a shock the same as pissing on buildings, car etc.
This is funny-a young person giving life advice to the world. This is a load of nonsense. The Thai laws are common sense. It is about respect. No surprises here.
benjamin kell, you're right. Seriously. A travel companion of mine was arrested for having pot. (and it's actually legal here in California) spent 6 MONTHS in something like a neighbourhood jail or prison. Lost his job here, his apartment and car because of not making payments.
You think a law that prohibits taking a little replica of Buddha out of the country is common sense? Really? And laws against driving without a shirt are also common sense? You obviously don't fully comprehend the meaning of the words "common sense."
Check out my Thailand playlist for more videos about this amazing country: goo.gl/sojcHB
That musical bit at the end was jarring, and very annoying, very bad audio chaining.
What about having a Buddha tattoo in Thailand? Is that disrespectful?
Yes I did and I'll never eat seaweed..thanks good stuff you have

In my country it's illegal to steal and kill people, weird.
Yoswin Freeman It’s a joke.
@Yoswin Freeman - good God but you are slow/dumb...
it's not illegal to steal rob rape murder seriously hurt someone in Thailand if you are in the Thai mafia especially on Death island kao tao I think that's how you spell it many tourists are murdered in the land of smiles but the police just cover it up that's a fact
@@jumperstartful Most countries allow that. There are only 4-5 that completely prohibit abortions.
How many people have you stolen?
I went to Thailand a few years ago when I was 17 and they were more than fine with underage drinking. On the Khao San road in Bangkok there were even bars which said "We accept fake ID" and people selling them opposite, police didn't care.
About the Buddha statues and pictures, I´m pretty sure that the law is only about antiques. There are a lot of brand new, mass produced Buddha items in Thailand that you are allowed to bring home.
That's what i suspected.
I brought a rather large Thai brass Buddha statue from Singapore to Manila with not the slightest problem.
Reverend Eslam ok but he is talking about Thailand, a different country
Paulo Gaeta Yeah I was wondering why.... that makes a little more sense then. I imagine Buddhist iconography must be a big part of the tourist industry there, so it was strange for me to hear you can't. Specially for the more mass produced stuff.
No images of Buddha are legally allowed out and no Buddha tattoos. Thailand is 98% Buddhist and a friendly place that commands respect and honesty or...don't go there.
I can bring buddah stuff back to england because I was born Thailand but I know English very well
It is 500 per day up to 20000 Max. as far as lengthy overstay - 20000 Baht is the MAX no matter how long you overstay!
IDC 3 MONTHS OVERTSTAY! NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE!
Mark Walters - anything on a motorcycle is a problem to Thai police if you’re a farang!
I dont think a good case of"gravel rash" will inspire you!
You mentioned 'not defacing' pictures (or whatever) of the King/Royal family, but the same is also true of Bhudda. Any images or statues whatever, Don't disrespect them!
Thanks for letting people know
Way to go Glenn, now you have pissed off all the Filipinos !!! great

Lol.
You might dislike many things about Thailand, but your country is far from perfect, and getting more imperfect day by day.
y2gether
No.
This is ok, pay a minimum wage of whatever you like, but don't expect that you'll be in business long as you won't be able to compete with lower paying competitors.
y2gether
A king of Thailand once stated that every Thai should have a certain amount of rai to farm rice and a pond to raise fish.

Convinced, I broke my vow not to smoke and switched to conventional cigarettes for the remainder of the trip.
why is vaping not allowed do you have a explaination for that ?

Kris Kubsch Plus include the immigration slip in the copy.
Lol. Try renting a car with it.
A photo on my phone suffices for most ID purpose tbh.
it is much easy to make a picture of your passport; Page with your name and picture; picture of stamps ( visa) ant the one you get by entering Thailand and the little note you need to get out of thailand and make a little map in your cellphone ( and tablet too) - If you behave yourself the police do not ask you about your passport ( or iD)
Well, Finally.....Someone who knows exactly how to do an informational video.

Thank you.
Also if you're hunting there the police or jungle law enforcement unit can shoot you dead due to you having firearm on you
Who brings a chainsaw on vacation?

I am trying to think the last time I was in a jungle in Thailand and I am damned if I was with a chainsaw but thanks for the info

Thanks for the tips!!! It sounds like an easy place to get carried away!! Never sign anything!!
Yeah! Carried away by the police.

I lived in a county in Virginia (United States) that still had morality laws in place. No cohabitation or intercourse before marriage. Both punishable with jail time.
Daniel Greer how would they even know?
@@roxylamour1119
The notion when those laws were put in place was that a woman should be a virgin until she was married. If suspected of sex before marriage, a woman would be required to allow a clergyman and a midwife examine her genitals to verify that her "maiden head" was intact. To say the least, it was a bizarre and archaic set of laws to have on the books in the 2000s.
I love that fines for littering are huge in Tailand! We need that in the US.
D Winslow honestly, my city isnt too bad with littering, except along najor roads in non mowing season.

And free gun laws too, if you want to get blown away, The United States of America is a must visit.

Hahaha! This dude right here! XD
Freedom of speech is ONLY on paper.

Thailand is a joke at this point, used to be a lot better. I lived there for seven years, now in Vietnam, less foreigners, less BS.
care to elaborate a bit more , what happend the last 7 years , and why is vietnam better for u now ? thanks.
But...you are a foreigner,no?

VERY VERY IMPORTANT:
When packing your bags for your holidays in Thailand NEVER forget to bring your BRAIN along.
Cs I think I'll just stay the fuck away from Thailand altogether.

No2 Not true, IT's not a law, If there is a necessity, such as coin is rolling on street or the banknote is blown away by the wind
and you must stop it by stepping on it.just do it, no one blame you, and it's not violates any law.
But if it is a blatant expression that you deliberately do so to insult the king, that violates libelous law.

No5 Not true, It's not the point that you're wearing your underpants or not.
if you dont wear underpants but you wear normal pants, it's ok.
but if you don't wear underpants and your pants is thin cloth or spandex,

"Thais don't like noise" Really? Frigging hell I never knew noise until I married a southern Thai lady 16 years ago! Maybe it's the boisterous (or lewd) behaviour you mention... There are very few places in Thailand that I'd describe as quiet or relaxing.
In the last 17 years of coming to Thailand; 1-5 times per year, I've never been stopped on the street by any authorities and asked to produce my passport. Although I always carry a photocopy of my passport photo page and have pictures of it, my visa and entry stamp on my phone.

Very good video! Hits the spot.
I've never carried my actual passport....just a copy.
Thai Law, and most countries, require you to carry your passport at all times, but you are only expected to hand over a copy.

Good, stay away......
he needs to be more specific and realistic about "laws" drugs?? many people in thailand smoke weed and you dont get locked up by doing that but you can get locked up if you sell it. so as long as you are a buyer and smoke inside a house its okay. even if you get caught smoking weed you only get locked up for less than 50 days you will never get a death penalty on smoking a joint or blunt of weed.
I see that Las Vegas has legal weed now, and they have cheap flights within the US.
kshitter oh have you seen Thailand jail? 50 days would be hell
So you think you're cool with being in a Thai Jail for up to 50 days do you? You're living in a fantasy land.
A buddy of mine got set up by a police officer in Bangkok to purchase weed and was immediately arrested. He was able to buy his freedom back for about $1000 without having to see the inside of a prison cell. Of course, if you get busted when there isn't a scheme to extract your money in place, it's a whole other story.
kshitter oh 50 Fucking days for some Mary Jane, Fuck that, I wouldn't last 5minutes, (Im too pretty for jail) and I'm still an anal virgin.
Keep a photo of your passport on your phone. In many cases, such as ID for a club, this will be sufficient, although obviously it’ll be at the discretion of the person you’re dealing with
So much for stoned shirtless loud driving commando while spitting out the window
We always bring a Buddha statue back with us, (not an antique), and we have them blessed at the Temple, we are Buddhists and we use them for worship at home in the UK. Never had a problem in over 25 journeys.
I wish we had all those rules for immigrants here in germany
Why just immigrants? I wish we had those laws in the USA for everyone here, citizens and immigrants.
Soctty, you have insight about Thailand people do not acquire in a week, or two. Good video, good information. Regardz!
speaking of laws that are not really enforced but are still on the books, did you know that the law against Adultery is still on the books here in Canada, even though a person cannot be sent to jail anymore, but the law against it has not been taken away, how far we have come from the time when if you were caught committing adultery, you could go to jail,
and in the far past in Europe, people actually got the death penalty for Adultery, good thing that isn't any longer in forced, or there would be even fewer Europeans then there are, being as they don't have children hardly any more and they are very immoral,
In Europe, especially France where it doesn't seem to be a big deal for a man or woman to have lovers, when they are married,
then I ask, why marry?
if they don't intend to remain faithful to one person?? at least here in my country adultery is still frowned upon, and adulterers are not exactly the most popular people to associate with.
+saramyshih tzu loveyou intresting 😃
As in some parts of the USA, cars/trucks, MUST give way to horse drawn carriages. Those are still in the books also :)
If Husbandry is care by husbands then adultery is care by adults so no harm done.sorry couldn’t resist.
ALSO: You cannot purchase a Pay and Go Mobile SIM [Example: for cheap internet on phone] unless you register your Passport wherever you purchase the Sim: Strange but FACT: Been there: Done it:
Deal drugs=the death penalty! Wish we had that in the USA.
Scotty excellent video. What is the best hotel in Bangkock and whats the best hotel in Pattaya for safety?
Rule 11: just go to Amsterdam instead lol
LOL! All true. :)
and be ripped off by taxi, Restaurants waiters, ,money changers and pickpockets
How about no.
(EUROPE)
aa your point is?
Havent ypu ever had a bank note blow out of you hand in all those years? or do you hold on to your money really tight? :-)
Thank You for the info .
I learned a lot .
Would be great if you made them for other places you visit in the future!
good idea i might do it for the ones I've been to :)
+Robert Mergaert so you're saying if I was off work at 4, I couldn't stop at a store on my home to grab a bottle? That just sounds stupid..
Thanks for the info, I live here in Bangkok and didn't even know all these laws.
are you part asian ?
6.5%
you have a peculiar asian mustache/beard separation. that's why I asked :)
shayson1357 i have the abscense of a ring beard too but im slavic, and a neckbeard just like this guy.
thank you scotty for all the good tips.
why is it forbidden to buy a little bit of weed in thailand. Alcohol is no problem whatsoever but harmless bit of relaxing weed is. i am so confused about the logic of it.
C Johnson actually I think it is the other way around. Lol
you know alcohol is a drug?
C Johnson
Don't be daft.
Mark Davies
Thanks for your input. Whatever makes you feel better. Cognitive Dissonance much ?
Gutten Tag
Not at all.
Can't go to Thailand! Al!ergy towards 100% cotton prevents me from wearing underwear!
How about silk, there is a lot of that there.
Never been, never going there, but thanks for the video! Other cultures are always interesting to me.
This is funny-a young person giving life advice to the world. This is a load of nonsense. The Thai laws are common sense. It is about respect. No surprises here.
Advice? It was a list of laws!
Where did the list come from? He is basically right about most of what he said, but its very dated.
benjamin kell, you're right. Seriously. A travel companion of mine was arrested for having pot. (and it's actually legal here in California) spent 6 MONTHS in something like a neighbourhood jail or prison. Lost his job here, his apartment and car because of not making payments.
What does him being young have to do with it? If he's had the experience over someone older that hasn't...it's helpful!
You think a law that prohibits taking a little replica of Buddha out of the country is common sense? Really? And laws against driving without a shirt are also common sense? You obviously don't fully comprehend the meaning of the words "common sense."
