In my Cheap Charlie days that was a very convenient accommodating. This apartment has even hot water and a TV. Thats almost luxury.

I stayed in something similar...I think it was called Sherri Apartments...Near Mia Mall... 90$ US and month.. $120 with utilities... big studio..great view...large window, plenty of natural light...fridge, wardrobe... desk... nice size western bathroom... clean... free wifi... great mix of Thai locals and Ferang...security entry and great landlord... Loved it... Loved the location... Great cheap food area mixed with modern hipster restaurants...month to month... No contract or security deposit...Not sure why so many manily older westerners are obessed with having all the bells and whistles...or are convinced the place has to be over 500$ for it to be safe and clean... or travel vloggers, aka passport bros want to look like their living the high life... For me location is the most important...and if its clean and I feel secure... cause living aboard is more about gaining the experiences... Not living in a penthouse

Thanks for sharing! The first aircon room was okay for the price, the last one was a nice place for 2800 Bath. And if you only have 1 room and stay outside most of the time, the 1 Bath+ overprice on the electric would not hurt that much. For one like me when I retire, it would be a great place to get the feet on the ground before I got something more permanent. And I would be able to save a large part of my pension. 😊

Hi Svein, the third room was great for the price. Small and basic but clean and super cheap. It would make a cheap place to stay for a while.

@@WalkAboutWayne What a lot of retirees and other expats don't realize, is that by renting a place like this the first 3-6 or even 12 months(depending on budget) you could save enough money to buy a new 125-160cc scooter or a 2-3 years old 300-650 cc motorbike. Instead they go renting a luxurious condo or villa for 20-30 000 Bath or more to show off. I know I will go the cheapo route in the beginning when I retire in Thailand.

Everything in life is about happiness, personally i lived in 200 meter luxury home in Tehran capital of iran but soon as lived in Philippines , even in very small unit like that i found happiness which i never ever exchange with million of dollars. I learned home is not the place which we born," home it's the place we feel real happiness next to kind and positive people " .

Wayne I lived like a Thai in Pattaya 32 years ago for 5 years and my room was good, I only had a fan but my room was much bigger and never got too hot.
I also bought a gas bottle and cooked on the balcony and had nice views both sides.
Before bed I would throw my shorts and singlet etc in a bowl with soap and fill with hot water from a tank on the roof, then pin em up next morning before going out with my mates.
I had my own tv that I paid cable for and of all the places and various quality hotels I have ever stayed in since that cheap room holds the fondest memories of mine. Cheers mate 😂😂😂

I stayed in a room like this in 2019. For 3 weeks. Fan room. Daily rate was about 300 THB.
The main difference is it is near Thapae. So the surrounding is nicer.
Otherwise, it is about the same. That kind of window has no noise insulation. If the neighbors decide to make love, you can hear very clearly......
I could see at least a Farang who stayed there for months.

    • @WalkAboutWayne

Not half bad for the price Wayne and you could likely buy your own comfy bed if you planned to stay there long term which would be an excellent investment. That landlady is SUPER NICE, again! I think you got the monthly pricing. If you were to stay for six months or a year, the price should be about Bt.1300 for the one without AC. Why? Bt.4000 can get you a very nice room, near CMU, with AC. And, on the plus side, living with students is so much better. Thai students are very respectful and thoughtful of others, at least the girls are.

Reminds me a bit of a place I used to stay in Hong Kong for about $100/week. Even though it was pretty grim, it was clean, quiet and secure, and in a good area of central Kowloon, and I actually preferred it to the some of the business hotels that were $60/night. Chiang Mai is just special, i prefer the chilled northern Thailand living. It's cheap and has everything you would need. It's hard to describe. Chiang Mai has magic in the air ( and pollution🤣). I've not noticed any influx of Russians. Thanks

I first went to chaing mai in 1989 and stayed at a place called Ben's guest house. I was laying in bed a sleep and got woken up by loads of helicopters going over head. And the room had a celing fan that sounded like a helicopter. I was half asleep, and thought I was in a war zone. It was just the army doing exorcise manuovers. Lol. Great place back then , it only had 5 fallang bar's. I bet its changed so much since then

That second room was kind of dark and depressing. I don't think I could do it for long. The third one was pretty acceptable but I'd have issue with the awkward shower placing in all. I think we must be opposites in mattress preferences. I prefer mine to be as firm as possible. I'd sleep on a lightly padded board if I could...555!

    • @WalkAboutWayne
      @WalkAboutWayne  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I agree Earl, the second one was my least favorite. I don't think that one would be a very happy place. I was surprised by the third one. It wasn't bad at all for 2,800 and free wifi and fridge. Maybe a hard mattress would do me good mate.
