correction on 2:28 the customization in Tekken 8 is a lot better than Tekken 7, but it all pales in comparison to Tag 2 and Tekken 6 customizations. T6 gave us options for almost every detail of the character, the sleeves, the gloves, several separation of head and hair customs, etc. T8 looks similar to T7's with more polish.

I'm more of a Mortal Kombat fan than I am a Tekken fan. But the amount of love Tekken 8 shows to the previous games is something I've been dying for in Mortal Kombat. Tekken pays homage to Tekken 6 story mode for a section in 8's story, All the characters acknowledge the past lore and build on it (other than Law and Paul), and the music that kicks in from previous games in the perfect moments almost brings tears to my eyes. Compare that to M1K. All the characters have died twice and been reset twice, barely any of them act like their previous selves. All their backstories have changed for the worse. And if they die, they can just be replaced by an infinite supply of alternate timeline versions and it wont matter at all. Even Liu Kang, the only "OG" character in the new timeline, came out of a random Kronika portal in MK11, and we never experienced his timeline or really know who tf he is. I still can't get over how this new Bi-Han is a pos with 0 redeeming qualities, for no reason other than that's how Noob acted in MK11. This guy went from my favorite character, to HsuHao levels of never wanting to see him again because of how s**t his story is.

Do a guide on TEKKEN 8 for MK1 Players. Discuss what the similarities are in concepts (footies, punishes, etc.) and how to learn the concepts that make TEKKEN 8 unique (side-walking, combos, etc.).
Just in case he doesn’t make the video footsies in tekken are similar to other fighting games where you move in and out if your opponents range and use pokes to hit them. The only difference is there aren’t typically projectiles that you have to worry about. Punishment is the hard part and plays into your defense which is also the hardest part. Frames are incredibly important so punishes are broken into categories of 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 frame punishes. There are also while rising or while standing moves that are used if you duck under a high attack or block a low. Most of the time your punishes are high damage attacks instead of combos up to the 14 or 15 frame range. Sidestep is possible for avoiding certain strings but you should mainly use it to avoid running attacks or after doing a move that -4 to -1. Combos usually involve a launcher, filler moves to add damage, a tornado move to knock them over and then a high damage ender when they’re on the ground. Some characters have drastically harder combos than others so if you can’t do combos on someone like Kazuya or Lee you might be able to on Paul or Jin. The main thing that’s difficult about tekken is defense but it’s nothing like other fighting games

There's also making tierlist on Tekken's music or ranking a character based on how easy or difficult they are to play. Whatever Tekken content you do in the future, I'm excited to see it!
As a lifelong MK fan im just so sad that it has come to this. I've always played MK over Tekken since the days of Deception, but with how good T8 has been, I have completely forgotten about MK1 and have lost the motivation to get back into it. Anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing some Tekken 8 gameplay on this channel while we wait for NRS to do something about their game that is on life support.
17:23 One small point you forgot to mention is that while the replay pauses to give tips, you can control your character within that moment (for like 10secs roughly) to try out the tip while the cpu will replicate the same move you struggle to defend against. THAT IS SUPER HELPFUL BECAUSE I CAN PRACTICE IT WITHIN THAT SPECIFIC MOMENT, instead of going to practice mode and setting up the situation. It's not perfect atm but STILL HELPFUL

I dropped mk for tekken 2 years ago. been a lifelong fan, still prefer mk's ambientation, feel, lore and etc. but on fighting games, gameplay is absolute king. and mk can't even come close to compare in gameplay terms to tekken. I wouldn't exchange tekken 7 for mk1 in a million years. going for tekken 8 was an absolutely no brainer for me. I'll always have a soft spot for mk, but it has yet to justify how I should spend any time playing mk when I can just play tekken. maybe when mk1 gets dirt cheap, lol

2:26 I think you meant Tekken 6. All the customization options in this game are basically just copied over from Tekken 7 and TekkenTag2. Tekken 6 however had about 100 clothing options for Head, Eyes, Neck, Torso, Arms, Hands, Legs, Feet, and Extras. And each character had completely unique clothing options specific to that character.
Namco is genius, they new MK1 was going to be subpar and meticulously and deliberatley planned Tekken 8s launch in just enough time to know when people were going to start abandoning MK1.
Its also possible that they never trained their ghost. To really improve your ghost, you have to fight it a lot in Super Ghost Battle and it will slowly keep learning. The moment my ghost did my mix up and combo to me the exact same way I do was so hilarious 😂
Nah, you just have to actually train your ghost. Unfortunately most people will naturally try out Ghost Battle for a little bit, go "huh that's neat" and then never really do that.
For the ghost experience you mentioned, the top rankers right now are consisted of a lot of cheaters/boosters, so they play really bad indeed. Also in my experience the ghost is weaker if it has not fight your specific character. When you fight an actually good player’s ghost you will be shocked at how well they play and actually lose a lot.

Instead of some shitty char by char chapter mode, MK should let you choose what character you want to play as from those involved in said chapter. At least it might give it replay value, especially if each character gets different fights/outcomes. Heck, imagine MK fights actually having consequences... what a crazy concept!
@youraveragejoe2 it's not as bad as it used to be. But even then it was ok for getting your combos into muscle memory. But it gives you bad habits. They tend to not punish stuff and get hit by things the player they are emulating wouldn't get hit by. I only had one friend to play with all through T7. I'd welcome a second if you want!
Amazing video but I’ll add one small thing about the ghosts that you fought they were probably playing really bad due to them being boosters and not actually being good at the game
I'll say this as someone who's first Tekken game was Tekken 7 with 7 yrs of playtime I always felt the love Harada and the team went on T7 which basically saved the series after almost being killed by Tekken Tag 2, Tekken 8 is a love letter to Tekken fans and it shows they finally get the budget to create a game with amazing single player, and learning tools customization options are limited than Tekken 6 but the love for the new characters and redesigns is amazing. The story mode was an improvement from T7 and they brought back the CG endings per character, the ghost feature might be from the top player now playing their ghost to train it to play like them.
It is a joy to see players from other games coming over tekken. Ive been playing the big three fighters since all their inceptions... (tekken, SF and MK). Tekken has always had my heart. Mk has usually been a close second... and then SF. Sadly this is the first MK i havent purchased.

11:15 to be fair, in kung Laos MK9 chapter, when Shao Kahn killed kung lao, then you get to play as Liu kang, which felt right for that situation. But on the other hand, there’s times where the targeted character is protected by plot armor until their chapter ends, which feels weird imo
not to mention how insanely nonsensical power levels are. I remember in mkx playing with kotal and obliterating anyone as this unstoppable force. soon enough you play other characters and have to face him, and he becomes just a random goon. it feels like lore has a complete disconnection with actual power level, like it is just random
If you want to get started on making tekken lore videos, then starting with the first 3 games would be nice. Its a pretty simple story, gets you a nice sizeable cast to start researching with, and by the end you'll have a good grasp on most of the motivations of most of the mainstays in the cast that will then continue to transfer over all the way to tekken 8. Tekken 3 especially is worth your time since in includes the predecessor to the multibattles in tekken 8 story called Tekken Force and the first version of Tekken ball as well. Tekken Tag Tournament 1 and 2 are also good as well if you want to play Tekken with 2 characters and assist mechanics. After that, you can probably go after each game on by one or if you want to experience most of the games in another story mode similar to tekken 8 (although not as good imo), you can play the tekken 7 story and it will catch you pretty fast on the other tekken games. I noticed a lot MK fans never played other fighting games outside of MK. Like MKX wasn’t even better than Tekken 7. I’m glad MK1 has failed finally we are gonna see true improvement in the next game people been ranting about for years.

Earlier versions of Tekken had "Tekken Force". It's basically the free roam multi fighter mode you saw, but basically you run around fighting different opponents til you get to the final boss of the level and it was so fun in tekken 4. In tekken 6, the entire story mode was this but i think a lot of people didnt like it, but I loved it and you could play it online with friends together. I hope they bring a tekken force in a future update.
i liked the special controls for when i did the story and i had different characters to play and jus wanted to see what's going on without trynna figure out everyone's movelist and i also like that it is there for people that need it, it's also great to previous how a new character feels but when playing against others competitively you are putting yourself in a very disadvantageous spot playing with the special controls on.
On TEKKEN 7 you could mix pieces of the default costume with other clothes from the shop... now you cant do that anymore... also many classic costumes are gone and replaced with crappy ones (no classic Steve, Nina, Hwoarang, Kazuya, Xiaoyu, Asuka...) Customisation is worse in 8

I don't mind people playing special style, especially if you can still work on your basics like movement, patience, timing and mixup. But I do think that special style's potential is capped. Like I could see you missing some key punishment and your special style doing seeable launch punishable low. At some point, I would recommend that you start weaning off them and there is always super ghost battle where you can train without pressure. Remember, whatever character you wanna play stick to 15-25 key moves, no need to stress learning whole movelist. It can naturally develope as you try new moves or see other players do them. Like with King, your key moves are 1,2, 2,1, df1/df1,2, df2/df2,1, db3, d3, ffn2, f2,1/f2,d1,2, uf4, b1/b1,2/b1,4, ff1, uf3+4, b3,1+2, ws2,2 and some of his command grabs like Giant Swing, Shining Wizard, Tombstone and Muscle Buster. Great video btw and Congrats on getting 3 Red Ranks with Special Style. That in itself is wildly impressive. Liked
I think Mortal Kombat versus DC universe have the best 3-D style for a fighting game at that particular time. I hope that Mortal Kombat goes back into 3-D as I think they will do really well and stand out more as 2-D is getting old.
tekken players dont argue about the best tekken. each new installment improves on the last. only thing core tekken players really consider is how fun each character/gamefight, is. ppl have favourite tekkens for their own reasons, like exclusive characters.

Tekken player here. Ngl I really enjoyed MK1 story mode more than T8. Visuals, mo cap and va got Tekken beat. And between the all out war in T8 vs the comical multiverse battles in MK, MK was far more entertaining. The better game though is Tekken, period.
Tbh... Tekken has always been the better more complete fighting game experience. The only time NRS out did a Capcom release was MK 3 and MK Armageddon. Because 3 was the first game with full roster and Hella secrets to unlock. While Armageddon had amazing new characters full roster, a story adventure mode with Easter eggs lore and all sorts of shit and really made the MK universe come alive. Then they released mk9 and it's been shit ever since

Depending on which ghost you downloaded, (before the more recent patch which banned or reset players using hacks) some of the top leaderboard players were just manipulating the matchmaking to fight against their alt accounts, to rank up easily. So the ghost system may have downloaded that they're actually trash when you fought that ghost. Good stuff on your part 🎉 You're gonna love it here! Welcome to TEKKEN!
I love that Law mirror match clip. Almost the entire time you both were doing "green rank" strats. Not trying to throw shade, thats just how it is naturally. All that is how everyone plays Until you start fighting people who completely shut you down for it. Only then do you start feeling like youre improving in this game and honestly, thats the core appeal you dont get in other fighting games. I played Strive and the gorilla strats work till the absolute highest ranks.
Whoever whispered to you that the customization is not as good Tekken 7 is out of their mind and lack creativity. The only limitation is a person creativity and the community is still baking new ones. @5:30 if they are keeping tradition going, you can unlock all the current customization clothing and accessories for free after playing 2,000 matches of any mode. It was like that for T7 but I hope its something for T8 aswell.

I'll say you start with the background of some iconic characters, listening to old Tekken OST in the jukebox and make a tier list, what makes Tekken different from other games and why you like it. Mk1 needs more game modes, a better item shop, and better match marking and patches but we will see what they gonna do at the end of February

I dropped mk for tekken 2 years ago. been a lifelong fan, still prefer mk's ambientation, feel, lore and etc. but on fighting games, gameplay is absolute king. and mk can't even come close to compare in gameplay terms to tekken. I wouldn't exchange tekken 7 for mk1 in a million years. going for tekken 8 was an absolutely no brainer for me. I'll always have a soft spot for mk, but it has yet to justify how I should spend any time playing mk when I can just play tekken. maybe when mk1 gets dirt cheap, lol

Tekken 6 however had about 100 clothing options for Head, Eyes, Neck, Torso, Arms, Hands, Legs, Feet, and Extras. And each character had completely unique clothing options specific to that character.

Its also possible that they never trained their ghost. To really improve your ghost, you have to fight it a lot in Super Ghost Battle and it will slowly keep learning. The moment my ghost did my mix up and combo to me the exact same way I do was so hilarious 😂
Yamangi is a legit god of destruction. You can also use ghosts of professional players and they won’t be nearly as good or play like the actual pro
Nah, you just have to actually train your ghost. Unfortunately most people will naturally try out Ghost Battle for a little bit, go "huh that's neat" and then never really do that.

For the ghost experience you mentioned, the top rankers right now are consisted of a lot of cheaters/boosters, so they play really bad indeed. Also in my experience the ghost is weaker if it has not fight your specific character. When you fight an actually good player’s ghost you will be shocked at how well they play and actually lose a lot.

Instead of some shitty char by char chapter mode, MK should let you choose what character you want to play as from those involved in said chapter. @youraveragejoe2 it's not as bad as it used to be. But even then it was ok for getting your combos into muscle memory. But it gives you bad habits. They tend to not punish stuff and get hit by things the player they are emulating wouldn't get hit by. I only had one friend to play with all through T7. I'd welcome a second if you want!

Amazing video but I’ll add one small thing about the ghosts that you fought they were probably playing really bad due to them being boosters and not actually being good at the game
I'll say this as someone who's first Tekken game was Tekken 7 with 7 yrs of playtime I always felt the love Harada and the team went on T7 which basically saved the series after almost being killed by Tekken Tag 2, Tekken 8 is a love letter to Tekken fans and it shows they finally get the budget to create a game with amazing single player, and learning tools customization options are limited than Tekken 6 but the love for the new characters and redesigns is amazing. The story mode was an improvement from T7 and they brought back the CG endings per character, the ghost feature might be from the top player now playing their ghost to train it to play like them.
It is a joy to see players from other games coming over tekken. Ive been playing the big three fighters since all their inceptions... (tekken, SF and MK). Tekken has always had my heart. Mk has usually been a close second... and then SF. Sadly this is the first MK i havent purchased.
You forgot one crazy feature from Replay mode.
You can enter any replay section and play it, like do a different combo or punish.

11:15 to be fair, in kung Laos MK9 chapter, when Shao Kahn killed kung lao, then you get to play as Liu kang, which felt right for that situation.
But on the other hand, there’s times where the targeted character is protected by plot armor until their chapter ends, which feels weird imo
not to mention how insanely nonsensical power levels are. I remember in mkx playing with kotal and obliterating anyone as this unstoppable force. soon enough you play other characters and have to face him, and he becomes just a random goon. it feels like lore has a complete disconnection with actual power level, like it is just random
If you want to get started on making tekken lore videos, then starting with the first 3 games would be nice. Its a pretty simple story, gets you a nice sizeable cast to start researching with, and by the end you'll have a good grasp on most of the motivations of most of the mainstays in the cast that will then continue to transfer over all the way to tekken 8. Tekken 3 especially is worth your time since in includes the predecessor to the multibattles in tekken 8 story called Tekken Force and the first version of Tekken ball as well. Tekken Tag Tournament 1 and 2 are also good as well if you want to play Tekken with 2 characters and assist mechanics. After that, you can probably go after each game on by one or if you want to experience most of the games in another story mode similar to tekken 8 (although not as good imo), you can play the tekken 7 story and it will catch you pretty fast on the other tekken games. from a tekken fan im really glad you liked tekken 8 and would like to see more of you playing. btw tekken has had some other party games before like tekken bowling and a beat em up style gamemode called tekken force aswell and all of tekken 6 story was a beat em up with multiplayer which was hella fun
Earlier versions of Tekken had "Tekken Force". It's basically the free roam multi fighter mode you saw, but basically you run around fighting different opponents til you get to the final boss of the level and it was so fun in tekken 4. In tekken 6, the entire story mode was this but i think a lot of people didnt like it, but I loved it and you could play it online with friends together. I hope they bring a tekken force in a future update.
i liked the special controls for when i did the story and i had different characters to play and jus wanted to see what's going on without trynna figure out everyone's movelist and i also like that it is there for people that need it, it's also great to previous how a new character feels but when playing against others competitively you are putting yourself in a very disadvantageous spot playing with the special controls on.

On TEKKEN 7 you could mix pieces of the default costume with other clothes from the shop... now you cant do that anymore... also many classic costumes are gone and replaced with crappy ones (no classic Steve, Nina, Hwoarang, Kazuya, Xiaoyu, Asuka...) Customisation is worse in 8

I don't mind people playing special style, especially if you can still work on your basics like movement, patience, timing and mixup. But I do think that special style's potential is capped. Like I could see you missing some key punishment and your special style doing seeable launch punishable low. At some point, I would recommend that you start weaning off them and there is always super ghost battle where you can train without pressure.
Remember, whatever character you wanna play stick to 15-25 key moves, no need to stress learning whole movelist. It can naturally develope as you try new moves or see other players do them.
Like with King, your key moves are 1,2, 2,1, df1/df1,2, df2/df2,1, db3, d3, ffn2, f2,1/f2,d1,2, uf4, b1/b1,2/b1,4, ff1, uf3+4, b3,1+2, ws2,2 and some of his command grabs like Giant Swing, Shining Wizard, Tombstone and Muscle Buster.

I think Mortal Kombat versus DC universe have the best 3-D style for a fighting game at that particular time. I hope that Mortal Kombat goes back into 3-D as I think they will do really well and stand out more as 2-D is getting old.

tekken players dont argue about the best tekken. each new installment improves on the last. only thing core tekken players really consider is how fun each character/gamefight, is. ppl have favourite tekkens for their own reasons, like exclusive characters.

Tekken player here. Ngl I really enjoyed MK1 story mode more than T8. Visuals, mo cap and va got Tekken beat. And between the all out war in T8 vs the comical multiverse battles in MK, MK was far more entertaining.
The better game though is Tekken, period.

Tbh... Tekken has always been the better more complete fighting game experience. The only time NRS out did a Capcom release was MK 3 and MK Armageddon. Because 3 was the first game with full roster and Hella secrets to unlock. While Armageddon had amazing new characters full roster, a story adventure mode with Easter eggs lore and all sorts of shit and really made the MK universe come alive. Then they released mk9 and it's been shit ever since

Depending on which ghost you downloaded, (before the more recent patch which banned or reset players using hacks) some of the top leaderboard players were just manipulating the matchmaking to fight against their alt accounts, to rank up easily. So the ghost system may have downloaded that they're actually trash when you fought that ghost.

I love that Law mirror match clip. Almost the entire time you both were doing "green rank" strats. Not trying to throw shade, thats just how it is naturally. All that is how everyone plays Until you start fighting people who completely shut you down for it. Only then do you start feeling like youre improving in this game and honestly, thats the core appeal you dont get in other fighting games. I played Strive and the gorilla strats work till the absolute highest ranks.

Whoever whispered to you that the customization is not as good Tekken 7 is out of their mind and lack creativity. The only limitation is a person creativity and the community is still baking new ones. @5:30 if they are keeping tradition going, you can unlock all the current customization clothing and accessories for free after playing 2,000 matches of any mode. It was like that for T7 but I hope its something for T8 aswell.
