Exactly! Part of the reason why I disliked Tekken 4 was that it not only had a smaller roster after TTT1, but the roster left over just lacked the wildness that previous games had. Instead of Mokujin and Jack, we get Combot. We get Nina, but no Anna. We get Kuma, yet no Roger or Alex. Kazuya and Jin are in the game, but Devil isn't playable. I am happy Namco went back to embracing their inner kangeroo and then some.
Funny that’s all the shit I hate in tekken. I just like the characters that have normal fighting styles.

His mk1 vs sf6 was way worse. He basically said mk1 is better because it has more characters and costumes. Does not touch on any of the lack of features and sub par netcode. What a weird take. Personally i dont compare games,just play what you prefer

He’s basically trying to prop up MK 1 as if it was a good product, yet he doesn’t talk about the real issues it has and why it fails to capture its target audience. He knows he can’t rely on NRS to make solid titles, yet he built his channel around MK entries and knows its market overlaps with Tekken (that’s why MK is losing tons of players to Tekken with its release and boosting sales too).
Deep down he knows MK is a shit game, but he doesn’t want to offend his fanbase, Tekken’s fanbase, and NRS at the risk of being excluded from NRS events. He’s playing both sides because it benefits him but many people will leave his channel just as they left MK with his shilling and coping. 😂😂
That’s one reason I would never dedicate a channel to a single game or studio, I would niche down or stick to genres to keep variety in the mix. If NRS fumbles MK going forward he will probably be forced to make Tekken 8 his primary fighting game since that’s where the MK players will flock to (some to SF).

Constant clickbait, you open his videos sift through the thumbnails and even the Tekken [or none MK related] videos have the M1K logo. His videos are extremely low quality clickbait and I'm 4 mins into this video and haven't seen the original video this is a response to but let me guess this is a video where he favors MK? I'll try to return and edit this comment confirming if my preconceived notions of what this video is about is true or not. Oh back to the point of Tekken will do better if MK doesn't, it's pretty much plain as day this was the case here with T8 and M1K but it's funny with all the sub-genres for fighting games and T8 being the only surviving active 3D fighting game as of right now they don't compete with any other fighting game directly. If the new MK had been a solid good product on its own merits we wouldn't be seeing a mass exodus to Tekken. Which it would've been amazing cool if SF, Tekken and MK all released good products, pretty sure that would've been a first.

He probably knows most his viewer base are MK players so it would make sense to show that game more favourably. Also the way he ends his videos with the excessive outros "keep that combo going and hit notification bell" or whatever he says. I get that it's the job of TH-camrs to promote themselves and try to get views but it just feels too rehearsed and manufactured with him as if he's removed from his genuine thoughts and just says what he thinks will sound best to his audience.

As a long time MK fan, even if MK1 worked perfectly and didnt have scummy micro transactions, Tekken 8 is still the superior game. Netherrealm ruined a lot of the 3D era characters storywise and General Kahn is such a lame idea.
I actually liked the idea of Shao as general before we see him become Khan, but like majority of the story, it was poorly executed

Tekken is miles better than any other FG on the market today. It's the best is almost every category and has way more modes, features, gameplay mechanics, and literally everything else you can imagine. The devs also actually care about the legitimacy of the competitive scene by listening to what their players want and communicating with them. This is done through frequent meaningful updates and patches from the devs to make sure the game doesn't go stale competitively. They also don't exploit their community with BS microtransactions and overpriced additional corporate cash grab content like other FG do. You just get all those in depth features for free at launch that every other FG would make you pay extra for.

For me Tekken has some of the best character designs in fighting games, I like the look of nearly the whole roster. Mk1 has some of the blandest designs I've seen for Mortal Kombat.
I absolutely love the character designs of Tekken 8. Even joke characters like Paul and Law look rugged and badass as hell.
Yeah as a long time fan I can't deny it.. I hate what they did with Ashrah and Nitara designs they looked a lot better in the 3D Era. Subzero and Scorpion default looks are as generic as it gets... man do I miss the MKX days smh
Mk characters could be cooler and alot more interesting, but they always fuck it up in one way or another, Tekken is “simple” yet elegant and stands on his legs
T8 and SF6 did a massive step up for designs and aesthetic from their previous game meanwhile MK1 is the blandest MK since MK2 of, it's laughable

I haven't even played mk1 so I cant judge it. I can say as tekken fan since tekken 2, I love the character story endings. His critiques are so bad. Paul and law have been running joke characters since tekken 2. Tekken isn't about story, it's about fighting.

NGL sometimes when he puts videos out like this, he tends to side with MK1 a lot. In fact he was one of the few people to tweet about when it had its issues trying to shame people for hyping up Tekken 8. His videos are hard to watch sometimes

TUD's words about arcade quest is probably one of the worst things there because if you've seen a TH-camr named Maximilian he and many others have talked in detail on what arcade quest purpose is it essentially is a glorified tutorial for newer players entering the game.
Its smart and welcoming abd inviting. It gives you so much rewards for playing it and teaches you this game naturally.
The fact TUD wants THAT MODE to be a 1 off is fucking stupid to me. That mode has done so much good for gaming and Fighting games like Tekkekn (Virtua Fighter as a example) is very helpful.
This Mode and all the features to help newer players get into the series is executed so well. Taking this shit away will hurt Tekken.

My entire time playing MK11 online was painful, not because of losing but because of how unreasonably toxic 70% of players were, actively insulting me over the mic or teabagging and mercying like an edgy child. I've never had anything close to that with SF6 (Haven't played Tekken online yet)

24:37 this is the same series with an arcade ending of a bear becoming a high rank in a business and sending Heihachi down a pit with a button on his desk, i guess that’s canon in his eyes? Obviously this is a joke but most arcade endings aren’t canon to the story, it’s not improbable but most of the time, it’s just a way to show off the character being goofy or get people invested in their lore, it doesn’t need to impact the overall plot line.

The Street Fighter point you brought up is so interesting since the lack of conflict between the Tekken and SF playerbase is exactly why SFXT failed. Capcom expected to sell the game to the combined playerbases of both games without considering overlap
Honestly the gem mechanic and the DLC characters being on the disc were a big factor too, and that's too bad because SFXT is kinda fun to play

It's kinda funny that he mentioned that the game being difficult and taking time to master means it's going to turn people off and they'll drop game when history has shown the exact opposite
Max(imillian Dood) did a video about difficulty in fighting games a while back and ultimately came to the conclusion that even if a game is hard and has a high skill ceiling people are more likely to stick with it than they are with something that's dumbed down and too easy, like how Strive dropped off in popularity *hard* after launch
my personal interpretation of this, speaking as a fighting games enjoyer myself, is that if a game is fun, but difficult and takes time to master there's a lot to learn; there's a lot to chew on and deep down there's an undercurrent in *everyone* that wants to learn and get better because getting better means you win more.
Been playing for years and i never cared learning frame data. Cause i never go to tournaments and i just play for fun. Frame data is for competitors. Casuals dont care.
I'm a casual player and I have a lot of fun from studying frames. It's not a hassle to me, I find it really entertaining. So even casuals like me enjoy the technical aspects of learning the game.
Learning frame data is crucial in order to be better at the game . Learning frame data isn't something only done for tournament level . It's something every player should do after getting used to the mechanics of the game . You'll have clear answers and solutions to things that may frustrate you by simply knowing frame data . Specially the age old question " When it's my turn ?" By knowing frame data you'll enjoy the game more in the future .
He should definitely stick to playing and focus on what's fun for him. Trying to pitch in to an ongoing debate when you don't have any real points to add other than "I like the tone of this series better" is just silly at this point.

My distinction is I describe Tekken as a legacy game, it's rare they will mix up a character's moveset to a point they feel like someone else (A good kazuya in tekken 1 will likely be a good kazuya in tekken 8, barring learning new mechanics, is my example). MK has a bad habit of upending the whole movesets of characters and making them play and feel very different, so him coming from a background of MK, it makes sense why he thinks Tekken is too complex.
By the way it's funny how he pretended to make a comparison but completely neglects to mention the game's music, probably because there's literally nothing negative to say about T8 because even if you dislike it's ost you can customize it. BTW has he mentioned customization? He's so boring I wasn't even paying attention but I bet he avoided the subject because he couldn't make it seem like MK was better in this regard as well, only subjective points were made.

I like trueunderdawg, when he’s on the kombat kings podcast with Sonic and Snake its really enjoyable. But this video just made him seem like a big hypocrite. Calling character endings silly and stupid because they are not canon is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Everything negative he says about Tekken can be said for mk. Character endings in mk games are most of the time non-canon and he has no issues with them. I get it he is a mk content creator. That doesn’t mean he has to try and tear down other much better games to support mk1, one of the worst fighting games of recent years.

It's infuriating how people make seem Tekken this game which requires you to learn fucking everything to be able to play well, which it isn't. I believe, Tekken is one of the more mash friendly games for beginners, even MK1 requires to know SOMETHING to be able to play it normally. And even on intermediate level people can fuck you up by being patient and just having good rhythm, which is brilliant for a fighting game

Great video. I enjoyed mk1 for about 2 months, then it got old quick. Tekken 8 is still absolutely amazing. Only thing i would change is replacing the "random" slot with mokujin. It's been a while but if i'm remembering correctly tekken 5 had the dojo modes which were essentially an older version of "arcade quest" just without an over world and avatar, but was required if you wanted to raise any character above max rank to divine fist. (Which was also required 4 times to unlock jenpachi.. at least thats not required this time.. unless we just haven't figured out angel jin is unlockable yet
Tekken's story is more focused than mid Kombat
In tekken the story focuses on select few of the characters unlike mid Kombat that can't give anyone a solid journey

Think about this for a moment: NRS released a fighting game in 2023 that launched without cross play. In 2023, a fighting game being released without cross play. How? How does that happen? Oh but you know what they made damn sure was ready at launch? The shop. That alone already tells you where NRS/WB's priorities lie.
As someone who hasn't played Tekken regularly since Tekken 3/4 (when I was a young lad, not a serious elder gamer) I really, really liked Arcade Quest. It helped me learn the systems of the game really well and even prepared me for taking labbing seriously, something I never thought I'd be compelled to do as I'm usually okay with just playing by feel until I hit a brick wall in fighting games. It also felt like a good onboarding experience for the type of vibe that the Player Match online arcade platform is.
The best skill in MK1 is picking the same cameo with the same character and spamming safe chip damage setups. It's boring. Not even CLOSE to the gameplay in T8.
He's oblivious to the fact that Arcade Mode is for new players to not have the most boring experience learning the fundamentals of the game. It's painfully obvious that he put no effort into playing T8.
Whenever I watch takes on fighting games and comparisons, i tend to stay away from TUDG, because he's just going to favor MK1 over Tekken 8, which isn't bad, but most of the things he says contradicts what most new comers say is very reasonable. Also, uh... Skill Issue TUDG

This response is a bit long, but here goes:
I don't know why TUG doesn't like the more humorous endings when the entire Tekken 8 story is actually quite depressing: Kazuya has revealed his Devil form and starts a tournament that threatens several countries with their destruction, Jin is struggling with his Devil form after he barely manages to save New York, and Heihachi's illegitimate daughter threatens to restart the very familial war Jin and so many others worked tirelessly to stop. Also, I'm pretty sure Zafina and Claudio might be dead by the end of the story mode.
Don't you think the player needs some level of reprieve from that kind of story? To outweigh the serious plot wrought with devastation and destruction with less serious and even hilarious endings? The game doesn't need to be serious all the time, you know. Like do we really want to see some serious Marvel movie-level story with characters like Kuma, or Panda, or Yoshimitsu, or Jack? No, because the very existence of those characters would make it too silly to take seriously. It seems even the writers in Tekken's dev team know that, so they take liberties with the endings and make them more enjoyable. Dude is asking for Zack Snyder level endings for Tekken, and I don't know why. It's just goofy.
Meanwhile, MK1's attempts at being overly serious actually run counter to the ridiculous levels of violence that the game was known for, which takes players like myself right out of the story. Combine that with the stale and predictable endings, and it's not looking so hot for MK1. I and several other MK1 players simply don't find these stories enjoyable, and evidently, so does TUG, because he doesn't say one good or memorable thing about any of the MK1 endings. Deep down even he knows the story and endings in MK1 are hot trash.
That aside, TUG's video was just cap. MK1 is already on its last legs, Tekken 8 is doing far better, and he's attempting to justify why MK1 should still be played. It's such a bad video.

Bro, I used to be fan of MK too before they announced that Kuai Liang was gonna replace the OG (it was a deal breaker for me) but this doesn't mean that you have to meatride your favorite franchise which continously ruin its characters.
It took me 3 years to fully master my *Tekken Main* 🙃 (been playing Tekken since 2013). Each character has at least 80-150 moves 💀
I don't think anyone can master any tekken character if even in the last year of tekken 7 people are still finding new things for even the easiest characters
@@WzDk13if you can use every single move without looking it up, I consider that mastering your character. Now mastering the game itself is a whole other thing. Learning the proper punishes in certain matchups, and get up options and frame traps is a whole other beast, but game to game those things change so I wouldn't consider them when you talk about "mastering" a character.
@@WavyJayZ Wouldnt count that as mastering because there are a decent amount of moves on every character that are just useless even as a knowledge check. And even if you can use every single move it doesn't mean you know everything about your character as shown by the amount of new things discovered 10 years late with all characters in t7. For a game like street fighter or mk I can see people mastering characters but for tekken I just don't think its really a thing and there is proof of this.
@@WzDk13 I learned every single move on one character, heihachi. He has zero useless moves. Even moves that were deemed useless in the past were discovered to have hidden properties. Now practical for competitive settings probably not, but they still have their use. He even has a counter hit move that crumples that I discovered you can use when you time it perfectly after jumping foward. I mastered that character, I can use his entire toolkit without even thinking, knowing what distance to use certain combos to reach the wall for wall finishers, knowing when to tornado or not to, frame traps, I consider that mastering a character. Now did I master tekken? Heck no, I still have trouble with certain match ups, and I don't know every interaction by heart. I agree there's no such thing as mastering tekken, but mastering a character within the game is completely possible.

If your claiming to of mastered a mishima then you you can do a 14f electric 100% of the time which you already know is humanely impossible so saying you have mastered heihachi is hilarious when I've heard even jdcr say he hasn't. I mean you could maybe make an argument for a character like katarina but heihachi you must be crazy if you thing you have come even close to mastering a character like that.

8:00 this whole part was stupid. Saying that MK is better at combining Supernatural/Fantasy elements with MMA was crazy. MK has the LEAST MMA influence of all the Fighters. Even the Martial Arts you can ID aren't implemented well at all compared to any grounded character in Tekken. Also "I don't care for the roster" turns into " I'm outraged for these characters and their Arcade endings!" I thought you didn't care for the roster?

As of right now, MK1 has 800 players online which puts it below GG Strive, while SF6 has 9K, and tekken 8 has 18K. Pretty sad that KOFXV has below 400 though... :(

I don't know why but It feels like in the Arcade endings ok MK. The general roster feels like it has gotten overall worse with each new installment. I'm going to reference Jax as he was mentioned in the video, but in MK9 arcade ending he hooked his conscious to Kano's eye implant and fought in a cage match of will with him until Jax won. In MKX when Johnny was hospitalized he accepted Johnny's promise to lead the squad, then protecting them from Erron Black. And then in MK11 it seems they just made him part of the BLM movement while completely disregarding his friends like Sonya, and Johnny who have been there for him. (They even brought him back from his revenant form)
EDIT: I'm not saying the MK11 ending is bad because of racial politics I've never said that. What I am saying is that they chose to form him around his race and not the content of his character!

I think this is a general thing going on right now, a lot of people are coming over from other franchises they would rather be playing and are playing this game like a 2D fighter. I am enjoying MK1 and how they bring back classic characters but i gotta admit you are making some pretty good points.

God hearing that rant about the tekken 8 arcade endings just made my blood boil as a writer. The main story has enough "edgy" and cool content regarding the larger scope of the story of tekken. The point of the arcade endings is giving you more insight into the character of the fighter you chose to complete the arcade with. Knowing more about your favorite character's quirks and hobbies and what they like is infinitely better than contrived power fantasy endings. Seeing Kazuya show of his sneaker collection, Bryan going on his mad max adventure, Jun just wanting to have a happy family, Dragunov getting sad that his favourite miniature war figurine company is getting discontinued were all really great little insights into these normally serious characters. If anything I'm sad that my fave yoshi got the serious ending treatment 😔
I hate how Mortal Kombat makes its story mode. Its so random and overblown, i WISH it was just, you play as Lui Kang cuz hes the main character of this specific story. I genuinely hate how they force the story to have you play at least 3 matches with every character. Its so ham fisted and they build the story around that instead of building the fights around the story. Theyre doing it in the exact opposite way they should be doing it.💀
