UberFacts is a highly popular social media account that posts interesting “facts” across Twitter and other platforms. The problem? They almost never reveal their sources for this information. To make sure everything is on the up and up, I decided to dive into some UberFacts health tweets and research just how accurate these “facts” really are. While lots of these facts are technically “true”, there is a lot more nuance necessary to really understand a lot of them. Today I talked about whether you can actually die from a broken heart, how long it takes the average person to fall asleep, sharing DNA during kisses, cuddling dogs, the speed or a sneeze, blood alcohol levels, pentagon Viagra spending, the effects of caffeine in coffee, the smell of sweat, and the point of our hair. Any other facts you want me to verify? Post them down below!
I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

Yes, having an abnormal response not to have that mechanism.

When I was in high school I saw a doctor due to having trouble falling asleep, depression and anxiety. She asked how long it took for me to fall asleep and when I responded "2-3 hours if I'm lucky". She said that it wasn't THAT long and it was normal. It made me feel so stupid and like I was overreacting. She didn't even acknowledge the depression and anxiety. What happened? Self-harm, insecurity and even deeper depression happened and I didn't understand why I was feeling and reacting this way. She had stated I was over-reacting so I felt so bad and stupid. She sucked and I wish I could go back and tell myself to see another doctor to get help. Because She just made it worse by not taking me seriously. Nowadays when I'm not in my depressive periods I fall asleep in about 30 minutes and understand what she said was absolute horses**t

For caffeine addicts, I'd say often it is not the caffeine that is dictating your mood and alertness, but the hydration.
I used to consume heavy caffeine in the mornings, but started hydrating instead initially with squash and water.
It was never an objective to cut down on energy drinks and coffee, but I did because hydrating in the morning did more for me than caffeine did.
Hydration is definitely important, and caffeine is a diuretic, so obviously not going to help with that. But for some people small, to moderate amounts of caffeine can act as an antidepressant. I have suffered from depression since childhood, and find it helps. Not huge amounts of it-one, sometimes two, rarely three cups of coffee a day. And I avoid it for at least ten hours before bed. Of course, for those consuming huge amounts, it can certainly be a problem.
I always have water, and coffee in the morning.
squash hurts my throat though dont know if anyone agrees
I mean I can say that lack of hydration will lead to a headache and bring down my overall energy, but caffeine does dictate your alertness. I think as a caffeine addict, it does less of an effect, but it’s still blocking those hormones that cause exhaustion.

When it comes to the "Broken heart syndrome" it makes me think of the older generation born in the 30's and 40's that have lived with their significant other their entire life. Most of them have spent 60-70 years together and once the first one dies, the other one dies within weeks or months.
Mostly when the Female part dies first the male follows quickly after.. When the male part dies first, females tend to live for years on after because they can cope with it better than men.
I know that because i was working in a retirement home for a couple of years and when i asked why most of em are females my chef told me this.

I thought letting go at once was bad . Just close your eyes and let it run all over the place , gradually after doing this , It will calm down . I wonder if Dr. Mike could explain coffee naps in people with ADHD. I wonder because my best sleep happens immediately after consuming coffee, and personally I find I feel more tired after having coffee than I do before.
As someone with ADHD - we have neurodevelopmental differences in how our brains respond to stimulants, and that varies from person to person of course. Interestingly, one of Caffiene’s effects in anyone is to increase dopamine levels (that’s the reward neurotransmitter). In ADHD, there is often a deficiency of that, so that probably contributes to the differences in how caffeine is processed.
For me (Combined type ADHD), Caffiene and/or stimulant medication won’t make me hyper unless its an extreme amount of caffiene right when I take my meds, but it will help me calm down, organize my thoughts, and enter a flow state easier. I can’t have strong coffee right when I wake up tho because then I will want to go back to sleep lol. However, for one of my friends who was extremely on the hyperactive end of the spectrum, Caffiene would have such a relaxing effect it would put him right to sleep at any time of day or night.
what my son's doctor told me when he was diagnosed... that caffeine has the *opposite* affect on kids up to puberty, it actually calms instead of stimulates. He told me to give my son coffee along with his meds to help him calm down. It might also explain why my Russian granny used to put coffee in my baby bottle ;)
Here I was thinking we kept our eyebrows to keep sweat and dirt out of our eyes 😂 I like that answer too though. I actually think about that all the time..hair pattern on humans and why we have so much head hair and how that must look to other mammals.. especially those with long hair..it’s so odd when you compare it to other animals yet it’s so normal to us
yeah its to keep debris out of your eyes, just like your eyelashes

Dr. Mike: No coffee after lunch.
Me: **laughs in chronic migraine pain management**
Does coffee really help against migraine?
@@Epiphun Yes but it's highly dependent on the downstream effects of your migraine. For some, caffeine is actually a trigger. However, for others, because caffeine as a vasoconstrictor can reduce the dilation of blood vessels, they have pain relief because vasodilation in the nerves in the head is partly responsible for the pain of migraine (see: Excedrin, a common migraine-treatment medication which contains caffeine). There is still lots of uncertainty with the physical mechanism of migraine though.

@Sean Payno It doesn't even have to be a kink lol; some people are attracted to intelligence and proficiency.

2:04 I wasn’t laughing at all until you pointed that out 😂😂😂
You speak a lot about sleep in your videos. I'm glad you included your optimal approach! Ever since my doggo died two years ago I have been having trouble sleeping combined with poor sleep hygiene. I'm working on it 😁 CHEERS!
Dr. Mike: Sitting is bad for you.

I’m a teacher. I make the kids get up and stretch and have a chat in the middle of a double lesson (100 mins). It’s not fair to make a 12 y/o sit still and quiet for that long
@@celticcheetah6371 you might but most teachers dont do that
@@celticcheetah6371 👏👏👏👏 I love that
@@celticcheetah6371 You're a very good teacher. ❤️❤️

The "true" dinging bell he uses and the noise my fridge makes when it's open for too long are the same pitch and I've tried to go close my fridge like 8 times until I figured it out.
Oh my goodness, that's hilarious!
LMAOOOOOOO 😂😂😂😂
6:36 thank you so much man this is why i am subscribed to you. i will most likely sleep much better now haha.
Dr. Mike: don't drink coffee past lunchtime.

Godd, if he was my teacher I would've never left the classroom.
None would 😂
Even when he does?
But here there's editing which helps
I wouldn't, either

Bonus to exercising with music: It can sometimes make you feel badass.
Seems legit if it's coming from *"Mikasa Ackermann"*
Depends on the music.

Thank you for the anxious bed ritual break. I’ll definitely be finding ways to keep myself from just winding up while I’m attempting to just sleep
i can personally guarantee you I'd get a bigger neurological boost from 25 grand than if i just smiled.
As a chronic insomniac… yes, it is frustrating to know that there are people out there that fall asleep in 10 to 20 minutes

Imagine your Uber driver telling you all of these facts- 😂
Mike, I'm a rare person who can drink caffeine before bed specifically for lucid dreaming and when I wake up the next morning I'm better than ever. However, I don't wake up to alarms, I let my body wake when it's ready. Some days I'll sleep 5 hours, sometimes 8, if I sustained an injury I'll usually sleep closer to 12.
Maybe you have an underlying condition of ads. There are many brain conditions that lead to stimulants making you sleepy
Maybe you are an alien.
@@peterzingler6221 I've got ADHD maybe that explains it.
Caffeine doesntcreally affect me
You are a true ninja.
I broke my femur by walking my dog (he drug me through a path, my leg got caught on a tree root and when I fell my leg twisted the right way for it to break) I was in the hospital for 4 days, and I had two surgeries on it. I was in a wheel chair for 2 months and in a walker for about 4 months. I was nine when that happened.

Just imagine in a lab a chemist sniffing all of the chemicals … is that why there all mad? Omg I’ve cracked it! 😂
Lol
Takes me 40 minutes or more to fall asleep and if someone wakes me up again then it will take 40 minutes of more to fall back asleep
Also caffeine really doesn't affect me. I drink it once or twice a week in the evening. Go to sleep the same way

The hair is useless part makes me laugh. It’s a part of our sensory abilities. The movement of hairs is part of how we sense the world.
