    Loving these techy videos, really interesting to see what it takes to prep/build engines to a high standard. A engine rebuild on say your rb25det in the skyline from start to finish would be cool (If only because i'm wanting to do mine) and would be nice to see your take on those types of engines.

    That was so interesting Ricky. Having to pull that explanation out of your Snap On Bobble Hat was mind bending! Seriously though although you are pretty humble in saying there are loads of others out there who are better at building engines with much higher levels of sophistication, other than formula one, I'd be very happy for you to build a race engine for me if I were in the position to commission one( I'm not I'm a 70 yo ex mobile mechanic lol) Your enthusiasm shines through in your videos and Davla brings out the best in you! Keep the vids coming, the format in these technical videos is just right. As for your other ones, sorry I get bored looking round your car park to see if whatsisname's motor has arrived or gone. Now that was a video! My poor little brain was in geek-out mode, possibilities / how-to's on the hatching ...what a bunch of variables to play with. And it's only really possible with this sort of kit. When I was a lad (maintaining me 80s 2T crosser) and tolerances were not what they are in modern engines, we'd get a rebored and honed cylinder back from the 'machine shop' at say 10thou oversized. After the first ruin-in session down the local track we would be back in there to make sure the piston looked and "felt" smooth up and down the bore - if it needed fettlin' a flap wheel in my dad's old Bosch wasn't unheard of 😳

    Professor Ricky made another great video! Ricky, I saw in the past someone in a workshop abroad that was rebuilding an engine and put only one cylinder liner and did not put liners to all the other cylinders - I believe that the right way is that if there is a decision made to put cylinder liners to an engine to fix any bore scoring that all the cylinders need to be fit with cylinder liners and not just 1 cylinder, is that right?

    @mcnelstv1880 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Really enjoy these build vids and I never knew how much detail goes in to building an engine. With regards to the cross hatching in the liner, what would happen if it was more of a mirror polished finish? Wouldn't that give both good compression and oil run off with less friction?

    • @timc5969
      @timc5969 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That would mean there was no oil on the cylinder wall so you’d be getting metal-to-metal contact between the rings and bore which would result in a lot of wear. You need some oil but not too much which is why it’s a balancing act between compression and oil run off.

    A very interesting video, having been a Mechanical Design Eng. now retired, also involved with racing Bikes, Cars and Supertrucks over decades.
    During the Design and Manufacturing process, where surface finish of bores for Compressors was always a contentious issue, this level of Measuring Kit, Software and recording of data is outstanding. It gives the engine builder a font of knowledge as to the size and surface finish which then can be analysed to find the best requirements for performance and life of the components.
    As an aside, are the Bores 'Plateau Honed' as aa process to minimise Honing swarf?
    Keep up the good work, keeps me interested in the engineering side of motorsport.
