  • I believe this video should make it easy to understand how to adjust your brakes.
    I also mentioned the protection for the brake cable sheath (a largely cosmetic issue) and promised a link to that in the description:

    For a pretty full and detailed discussion on the "brake failure" issue which is widely discussed (but hardly ever seen) please see this blog post:

    Very clear instructions. I need to readjust front brakes. I tried to do something but apparently it didn't work. After watching this video now I see what needs to be done. Thanks

    I actually ended up changing my brake pads on Thursday, it was very needed as they were worn way down. was quite easy to take it off, sadly the magnet holding the back brake pad seems to have broken. so i had to take just the biggest piece of it and put it back in with the new brake pad. and it holds. naturally it wont fall out, but i cant fathom how in the world it broke. first time changing brakes, was nervous

      They are quite brittle (the magnets). A drop of hot melt glue on the back of the magnet will probably help hold it in too :-)

      I don't know what you mean, but generally you can't fix a broken spring of any type. However in case you aren't explaining the problem I recommend my blog post here

    Hi, sorry for the “off topic”. I have a Wide Wheel and the neck got the crack. I’ve ordered a replacement one, but can’t find any instructions on how to replace it. My biggest worry is how to replace/remove all the cables running through the neck. Have you seen any video or instructions how to do this? Thank you very much!

      Hi
      if you wish, reach out to me on my blog with a comment, all are subject to approval and post your email in there. I will not publish it. However there is a video from the makers showing how to.
      Although I'm not sure about where your neck got a crack and what you're meaning because what you've said is too vague (could mean a lot of things).

      dont need to remove all of the cables, just remove the 3x bolts on each side of the stem.
      The center cables you will need to remove = rear brake cable, and unplug controller communication cable from the top.
      You can re-run the cables in the stem quite easily with the thing apart.
      Change the center bearings while you are there.

    How do people use rear brakes on these scooters, I have 2x WW pro models. rear brake cable is absolute trash, seized, cables snap. I switched to hydraulic on one of my scooters since i dont want to just rely on the front brake.
    The brakes on this scooter are absolutely terrible for a 40kph machine.

    • @finophile
      @finophile  ปีที่แล้ว

      First I'd say that my original brakes are fine, if your cable is rusted you must live on the ocean. I've never seen a rusted cable and I have a few friends with them too.
      Still running everything original on my 2019 widewheel, so you must do no maintenance and treat it badly
      Lastly it's not a 40kph machine unless you disabled the speed limits and are going downhill.

    Nice video. Do you have any tips for squeeling sounds from the brakes? Replacing the disk? The pads are newish.

    • @finophile
      @finophile  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      just make sure that the caliper is actually correctly parallel to the disc (adjust brakes first, especially make sure the inside brake pad is loosen fore and aft bolts, squeeze brake, kept squeezed, tighten fore and aft bolts, release brake).
      That said squealing brakes is often a sign of dust on them and my motorbike discs sqeal from time to time ... then goes away, then comes back. Same with my 4WD
      You could try pulling the pads and giving them a brush down ... but more trouble than I'm willing to go to.
      Mine go through times of squealing and then not ... and then squealing ...

  • @roybenz187
    @roybenz187 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does it have Electronic brakes? I cant feel it but it gives a "buzzing" sound when i press the handle in a bit. And it does have an extra cable at the brakehandlebar.

    • @finophile
      @finophile  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no it doesn't have electric brakes, I'm not sure what you mean by the extra cable at the handlebar but that's probably the brake sensor on the brake lever so that the brake lights can come on when you touch the brake (and also releases the cruise control too)

    • @roybenz187
      @roybenz187 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      finophile how do you activate the cruisecontrol?

    • @finophile
      @finophile  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      first you have to activate it in the settings (if it isn't), so 1) turn on 2) long press to get to power mode settings 3) if the 4th LED is not lit (meaning its not active) - push throttle all the way down and hold, then pull the brake lever and let go , let go of the throttle. You'll see the 4th light lit
      go back out of power settings and you're good to roll ... it'll activate after 7 seconds of constant throttle, you release by touching the brake enough to activate the tail light.

    Is there a video on replacing the brake pads , Thanks

    • @finophile
      @finophile  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dean, no I haven't done that because its so absurdly easy
      1) take the caliper off (just the two nuts facing you), leave the cable attached
      2) wind back both the inner and outer "pistons"
      3) with a pair of needle nose pliers (such as a leatherman) or with yoru fingers just (one at a time) grasp the green tabs visible and remove the pad (they're just held in by magnets)
      4) assuming you've been adjusting the pads over time, just re-adjust the "pistons" to make the gap wider.
      its actually so much simpler to do than to explain, like writing a set of instructions for how to make a cup of coffee.
      Its about a 5 minute job, you'll literally spend more time in front of the screen watching dribble than actually doing it.
      Remember, its the 2.5mm allen key to wind back the piston on the outside, and then the 4mm on the rear piston.
      Try watching this video from this time: th-cam.com/video/T-uM5is0zFQ/w-d-xo.html

    Will the brakes stop it from running

    • @finophile
      @finophile  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't understand ...
      the brakes will lock up the wheel (if desired) and bring the scooter to a halt, if that's what you're asking.
      So much wanking on the InterWebs about the advantages of hydraulic brakes on scooters yet no consideration of maintenance like bleeding brakes (that may even be a new term for you).
      Here is a good comparison between hydraulic and cable operated: th-cam.com/video/XsqtxkwUeME/w-d-xo.html
      Now, here's a thing for you to think about: leverage ... the longer the lever the more force that can be applied right? Well look at the distance between the tyre and the axle and the brake pads and the axle on: a scooter & a bicycle. You can quickly see that the distance is much more on the bicycle. Meaning that the brakes NEED to be much more powerful to provide the same force to the ground.
      Nobody seems to think about this or about the speed of the disc (due to smaller wheel diameter at the same speed) and the influence of heat on the pads ... but then its better to just wank about buying (essentially) magic things than think about the physics and usefulness of them.

      @@finophile hes asking if the brakes will disable the motors, and yes they will as there is an electronic switch on each handle to disable the motor anytime brakes are on. Since the unit does not have regenerative braking, this is a critical function to at least save some battery power.
