Dude, same. I went to mine when I was 13 so nervous and ashamed and waited until he was shaving in front of my mom before I asked super politely how to shave. He laughed at me out loud and said "what are you talking about!? You just have to grab a razor and shave!" My mom laughed too like I was an idiot.

Trivia: All the razors we use now are called "safety razors". That's because for a long time a VERY sharp knife was used, often folding into a case. I have my Grandfather's "unsafety razor". Would be really easy to cut open a vein ... or your throat! In fact they were called a straight or cut throat razor.
Oh, and very expensive. Most men either wore beards or went to a barber. A cut throat razor if you had one, could be resharpened for years of use.

Although my father has accompanied me throughout my entire growth process, due to our country's conservative and restrained traditional values, my father has not taught me many common life skills.
Some are difficult to talk about, such as topics related to sex. Others are like shaving, where I missed the opportunity to learn it because I left home and went to school in another city when I needed to learn it.

@winterblues As a mum, I honestly felt it was the one thing that I couldn't do properly from my own experience and I couldn't risk a trial on my own face!!! It really got to me. I spent ages worrying about wet or dry electric razors, the right type, the right shaving cream, the right skincare to avoid sore skin! I had no experience other than legs, which is not the same at all!. I can tie ties, change tyres, fix washing machines, top up the oil, change a headlamp, do lots of diy tasks. Nothing else bothered me, but shaving the face every day is an experience I couldn't get for myself and pass on as a parent. Reading all the comments here, and especially yours, brought it all back! Thanks for sharing.

I grew up without a dad, he decided that having a mistress is more important than having a son.
I had to learn to shave on my own which probably isn't a big deal, and other small things like riding a bike or talking to girls.
I guess i just wanted to say that, the low angle made me feel like a kid who's learning to shave from his dad, so thank you for that.

I love this! I’m a woman barber and I had to learn how to shave most men with a straight blade but this is super sweet for the young men needing the help.
Can I just add a couple things as a barber that I have learned.
1-if you put a hot towel in your face for a few minutes before saving you soften the hair and skin so you can reduce the chance of cutting yourself.
2- shave with the hair growth pattern first, if it grows down, shave down, if it grows up, shave up. Follow your cowlicks (yes you get them on your face too) and you won’t have near as much irritation.
3- for an ultra close shave once you have shaved with the growth, apply more cream or shaving gel and shave against the grain (against the growth pattern, if it grows down then shave up against it, and vice versa).
*pro-tip* if you apply more hot towels between step 2 and 3 for about 30 seconds to a minute you’ll also avoid irritation.
*another protip* once you have opened the pores, you MUST CLOSE THEM!!! You must use an after shave or salt stone or moisturizing after shave. If you don’t, you’re at risk for blackheads and pimples and so much irritation. Use a cold cloth with aftershave to close the pores and apply moisturizer on after you shave to your whole face. Men need to moisturize too!!

Hello! Can I ask though (am a lady) I thought you were supposed to just shave against the grain. Grows down, shave up, etc. and then go over it the other way? i mean i shave my pits literally every direction, because it grows every direction, but only shave my legs up, if that makes sense. My bf uses one of those double barrel shavers on his face and never a razor (senstitivity) but i'm sure he was shown to shave against the grain... which would make it more sensitive? i'm trying to understand hair growth vs shaving, here, lol.

As a 50 year old “dadless” woman, I always wonder how different would my life had been if I would have had “him”. I needed his presence so much at so many points. I grew up in a loveless house with an abusive and scorned mother figure that would always find the slightest opportunity to point out how faulty and useless (just like my dad) I was, which made me grow up with such a sense of not belonging anywhere, among many other unpleasant feelings. To this day, I still get teary-eyed when a see loving, caring fathers do cool things with their kids. I missed out on so much. Luckily, both partners I’ve had have been amazing fathers to our kids.

I felt the same way about the lack of my father's presence, and I have to admit that sometimes it still stings. But I've learned over time that I never "needed" that presence because I got through those times without him. It would have helped yes, but all I needed was myself. I'm very glad that your partners have been present for your kids though!

    • @valentine93

Interesting. I look at dads with their kids as if they were from another planet. I ask myself do they really love their kids?? Why are they with them? Does he want to leave them? Is he happy? Do they make him happy? It's very alien for me to see that.

    • @raskolnikov3799
      @raskolnikov3799 ปีที่แล้ว +29

@@El_pouleto shaving cream protects your skin while you’re shaving by softening the area. There’s less friction when the blade and your skin make contact so there’s less pain, less potential cuts, and a lower chance of itchiness/rashes.
Lots of soaps could work well enough if you don’t have access to the real stuff, but actual shaving cream would be better. I used lotion as a young teenager and it worked well enough 🤷.
Afterspray will help stop any potential infections from cuts (cuts don’t happen too often, and they’re almost never a big deal; it’s nothing to worry about) and help to reduce skin irritation.
Also, it wasn’t make explicit in this video, but while you’re shaving, only move in straight lines. You can follow the curves of your face safely, but don’t abruptly adjust angles or slide it sideways. The blade(s) are horizontal, so swiping across would give you a nasty cut. I damn near cut my head off the first time I shaved my face because I didn’t know that 😂.

This helps to draw the Adam's Apple into the throat and flatten your neck so you dont knick yourself. ;)

    Extra beginner tips to note:
    - Have different razors for different body regions (at least 2 total).
    - If you don't want to botch your sidelines, take it slow and take just a bit off each time.
    - You don't need to put too much pressure on the razor. A cut looks worse than some small hairs.
    - Warm water before a shave makes the pores expand, cold water/ice cube after closes them and it feels good.
    - Tip above also doubles-down for cleaning your face and getting the dirt out.
    - Experiment with beards and hair lengths. Might wanna look into a trimmer if you want to look civilized without loosing the whole beard.
    - Work with what you've got. At the end of the day everyone wishes they had a beard like someone else; someone probably wishes they had your beard.
Finally, while not part of the beard: don't neglect your eyebrows. If you're going to a job interview or something, maybe don't have Tarzan straight-out-the-jungle eyebrows unless that's what you truly desire.
Even shaving off the middle bit with the same razor by going back and forth helps them from becoming a unibrow, just don't nick your eyebrows.

Hello. I'm a university student in Korea. Since my parents got divorced, we(me, mother, younger brother) have had a hard life. But, above all, it was the saddest for me that my brother cut his face with razor lately. Because he didn't know how to shave his face. Since early years he grew up without father, so he couldn't learn how to use razor. However this video helps my brother to shave his face well. Thank you so much. Now and forever I'll cheer your youtube channel.

My dear sir. God has anointed you with a significant calling. You have given so many "orphans" in our culture the precious opportunity to even think the words, "Thanks, Dad. Love you, Dad. That really helped, Dad." You're filling a void that some people don't even know that they have. I pray that through your example, people will come to understand the unconditional love that our Heavenly Father has for them also! Thank you for being a light in a dark world. And a big ol' thank you to your son and daughter for sharing you.

I don’t mean to intrude, but how does you being trans affect shaving? (I don’t know the proper terminology so please don’t be offended) but if you go from male to female do you still have to shave or do you get a hormone transplant or whatever so you don’t have to? Or from male to female do you shave or biologically do you just not grow facial hair?

    • @stankatbarrell9878
      @stankatbarrell9878 4 ปีที่แล้ว +54

@@zurtle9593 Female to male trans people have the option to take testosterone. Testosterone makes them basically go through a male puberty. It includes facial hair growth, squaring of the jaw, fat distribution in a way that is not so focused on places where females have curves, darkening of hair, deeper voice, and clitoral growth into a sort of micropenis. Not all people's journey with taking testosterone are the same but those are the average effects.

    • @GwyndolinOwO

@@zurtle9593 The other reply you got explains things pretty well! the person talking is transitioning from female to a different gender, so hormones were able to help them grow a beard (i'm assuming)
for trans WOMEN, though, to answer your other question. You can take hormones, but they don't work the same way as getting a beard. Once you have the ability to grow a beard and other body hair, it just kinda stays that way. I've heard that estrogen treatments (the hormone associated with women) can lighten or thin the hair a little, but for the most part a trans woman would have to shave or get hair removal treatments for the hair to completely go away. OP doesn't seem to be a trans woman, but i hope this explains things so you know in the future!
