The 2012 and 2013 videos add so much depth (literally) to a mine tour experience. John's work and artistry portray what daily work life must have been like for the Delaware's miners of over 170-years ago: narrow rock-strewn passageways, tight working quarters, unstable "ceilings" and mine walls, and a consistently damp 43-46 degree underground air-temp. I tried visualizing all these scenes without water; it had to constantly be pumped from the shafts to keep them from flooding with massive pumps, some of which remain with the ruins outside. While the technology used to make the mine 'work' back then was crude by today's standards, we marvel at what was accomplished. John Janzen helps capture as much with his video offering, giving his viewers a rare opportunity to see, experience, and imagine what life must have been like for the miners in this jewel of a mine deep under Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula.

Back in the 80's you could get down there through air vent holes and cave ins where the drift was near the surface, fun, scary interesting and beautiful down there, some places had bats hanging thick as hair, we took string and spay paint to find our way back, it is huge and easy to get lost.

Thanks for the video I have walked the first level of this mine several times it is cool to see what is below the waterline. Can you explain what the bacterial stratum is and what causes it?

why do you keep the air canisters on the side?
Is it to prevent them to bump on the ceiling and get damaged?

So many objects in good shape, including wood supports, etc. Water must be quite cool. What was the water temperature for you when diving?

I just did the tour 5 days ago. The air temp in level 1 was 40°. Im sure the water is around the same temp

I agree. I love that song too and I thought it was perfect for the introduction of this video. It is "Heaven With a Greenstone", by Jeremy Rowe. You can purchase it online as an MP3. Just do a google search for it.

I'm not a diver, but I think I could get the same "thrill" walking the first level with a small flashlight as the only light, or even a helmet gas light such as the miners wore, all without risking my life. Or is that part of the thrill.

The music ruins this. How about a little narration and explanation instead.

Im into exciting stuff like cave exploring and mine ventures & scuba diving and sky diving but thease dudes are crazzy somthing about exploring mine full of water just dont sit right between the breating under water to total darkness and cave inns mine diving is just not worth the fun to risky as fun and awsome as it is too meny little things to go horably wrong and some really good divers who knew their shit like teachers of the best of best die doing shit like this. Got to go in knowing 50/50 chance you can die those are shity odds
