Interview with Jack Foster a life time resident of the Lake Superior Copper region. Jack worked most of his adult employed by The Calumet and Hecla Mining Company in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

I lived down the road from Mr. Foster when I was a kid. I remember trying to sell him Girl Scout Cookies, and I think I "interviewed' him for class when I was in elementary school. Thank you for posting this video!
thanks for posting this I was born in the area my parents lived in dollar bay and i had family in calumet, my uncle lives in tamarak, and my parents moved back up there and lived in atlantic mine, my dad used to take me to the old mine sites. my grandfather worked for a mining company in trimountain i'm not sure which one, he was a blaster, then worked in the warehouse. my uncle was a fireman at white pine at one time too.
It is so good that a source of living history liked this has been preserved for the future generation only wishes wrote a book I am looking for a couple of good books on the Calumet and Hector history.I have boom copper. From my connections with financial investment groups we are currently looking at purchasing rehabilitating and opening several of the old copper and iron mines in the upper peninsula. Currently trying to research the old Minnesota/ Michigan mine in Ontonagon County n researching the Keel Ridge mine in Dickerson County.
1oscoda there were many different Sullivan families in the area so it is hard to say, but where I grew up in Hancock, MI one of my High School teachers was Miss Veronica Sullivan who taught Math and her brother was a postal delivery man for many years.
gus linja He was my grandpa. i just found this on here! This is awesome to see! Yes he loved his Calumet and mining. He made sure my sister and I and my son learned everything we could about it. Loved hearing his stories.
1oscoda; some info about the Sullivan surname. In the 1916-1917 Poke Directory there are 74 different addresses in Calumet for the Sullivan name, so without additional information. trying to find your relations is next to impossible..
No mention of the Alabama Magnesium Corporation Division that produced primary magnesium from Dolomite at Selma, alabama from 1959-1969. Victim of the take over of C * H by Universal Oil Products. Originally a joint venture with Brooks and Perkins, large magnesium fabricator of Detroit. C & H bought out B & P in 1965.

I had a great grand father who worked for h&c died in the gratiot mine 2 back in the 1940s family moved and fell apart after that.

KR Warsinski Mr Jack Foster was quite a person and if anybody wanted to know any thing about Calumet and Hecla history he knew it.
