It sucks man. As a teen, I dreamed of living in California working as an animator, but neither living in California AND finding work as an animator are sustainable long term.

It's kind of sad that in Japan they pay animators like minimum wage. Nobody wants to work as an animator there because there's no Union and they hardly pay you anything. The only reason they do it is because they love to draw but even they're starting to not want to do it anymore. So they have to outsource a bunch of animators from other countries. If you pay attention to the end credits of a lot of anime, there's a lot of English names because they're getting like Americans freelance artist to like animate their stuff because they're so understaffed.
But it's much better to work as an animator in like America because there's unions. But it's still not a good career because it's so unstable and they pressure you a lot to get a lot of work done in a really short amount of time

I saw a thread once where a nip said that basically animators in Japan get paid literal dog piss to animate an entire season of an anime. Fella had a Higurashi avatar. Seems animators are undervalued no matter where they come from. I dunno, feels like something has to change but is nigh impossible to happen.

Also, yeah, these American cartoons are so fucking ugly I wouldn't watch them if you paid me. Velma especially. God, how can so many people sign off on something so goddamn ugly. (Not to mention unfunny.)

That's true. It's also Japan's culture. They know they have to change something and like pay people more but they're stuck in tradition. They don't want to change the rules. In Japan, everybody's taught to be quiet and do what they're told. So nobody speaks up. If you speak up they think there's something wrong with you and then they'll ostracize you. Like even if you say something to your family, that's not the cultural norm. Your family will abandon you and pretend like they don't even know you. Japanese culture is really cold and ruthless
