I will share the things I discovered. I don't know if they're well known but I like them and here they are: 1. CTRL and left click on the layer thumbnail to select everything inside a layer (sort of like the magic wand but inverted) 2. Drag the layer out of the layer docker to double it. 3. if you want to enlarge a layer with the Transform tool without messing up the width and length, just press SHIFT while enlarging it. 4. while using Transform tool, right click inside the selection to get many options on how to transform, including perspective which is super useful. 5. Press F to instantly use Fill (who knew)
One point of convenience I like is there is a button on top right that lets me switch workspace with just 2 clicks instead of fiddling with the drop down menus. So I got multiple workspaces made starting with a number and then a name, so they show up in order of my preference. I use selections a lot as well. Like there is a selection that can select based on color. And holding down Shift and Alt it selects things within a selection which I have found surprisingly useful. And with shape tools Shift alt control are your friend. After dragging out a shape holding down Crtl scales from the center. Holding down Alt lets you move it, Ctrl+Alt lets you rotate it. The last one is especially useful I find, didn't know I needed it until I had it.
I watched the entire video only to realize that this wasn't some massive channel with tons of subscribers. You definitely have what it takes, it's only a matter of time before you have hundreds of thousands of subscribers
Actual lifesaver I've been trying to get back into digital art after a long hiatus and trying to figure out the program is making me lose my mind,, this is so helpful
THIS WAS SO HELPFUL. I thank the algorithm for somehow knowing I use Krita so that I'd actually click on this video. As someone just starting out with digital art for fun, I kept seeing artists doing things that looked so useful but never explaining what part of the program they were using. And there are way too many settings for me to check out each one... I was hoping for a video like this. It highlights the useful but not immediately intuitive tools within a massive program like this
omgg thankyou for saving my life, you ended my suffering trough krita and a buch of a youtube vid, i felt happines when you mentioned the 8th tip! thankyouu
My sister is waiting to get approved for a project on her uni, and if she does she'll have a new computer and said she'd give her old one to me, i used paint tool sai for a while but found out it didn't work well for me so I've been researching more about krita to give it a try when i can, this video was really the perfect find I love your persona and art style and your voice is so pretty!!!!!!!
5:51 isolate mode when you hold "Alt" key and press on near the name of the layer it is a isolate the layer meaning show this only one they you click on it , so when you do that when you're recording timelapse the video of the timelapse show flickering, because you are switching the isolate mode on and off when you draw
Ok ok I need to share this since I haven't seen a lot of people talking about it 1. Tool information docker: it's a docker which reveals so many hidden properties of all the tools you use like holy shit please keep that in your workspace 2. Perspective tool: really really useful and support many types of perspective even fisheye 3. You can also tween in krita. It's also in a docker (I'm forgetting the name) but if you change your set-up to animation it'll be there right next to your timeline
its the Animation Curves Docker :3, and while im at it here is how to tween in krita: 1. start with a simple object, like a circle or any simple shape and draw it on a separate layer, then right click the layer, "add > add transform mask". 2. Add the Animation Timeline and Animation Curves Docker to your workspace, i usually squeeze mine at the bottom. 3. Select on the animation timeline where you want your animation to start, or keep it at frame 0, dont make a new frame tho! Here is the funky part: go to the animation curves docker and press the button that looks like a diagonal platform/pinball spinner with a plus on it, it reads "Add keyframe to control scalar property" 4. Now move to the frame which you want the object to "tween" to, and move the object in the layer to its next location on the canvas, now press the spinner with a + button again, change your clip end frame to something shorter so you can see the looping tween in motion without having to wait ages. 5. If everything went right, tadaa! Your test now successfully tweens! Ive yet to learn how to make animation memes with the tools ive got so thats all i have to say unfortunately :x
I knew everything except for the tip 6 and 8! Gash that's so frickin handy, i've been wondering how to do these two specifically to make my process easier. Thanks for the video!
This is so helpful I downloaded Krita a couple of months ago but got discouraged when I couldn't figure how to do certain things but this video literally covered all the questions I had. Thank you so much 🙏🙏
I love LOVEEE Krita! Been using it for 10 years ❤ I’ve heard of the recording feature for a while but I’ve never seen anyone show how it works! Great video!
11:05 Even easier method for tip 9: Set the layer blending mode to Multiply. (you'd need to flatten the layer first in this example as it also doesn't affect the layer style) I did a quick test and it seems to act in exactly the same way as the gradient map. (The 'inverse subtract' blending mode does not) However, pointing out the location of gradient maps in Krita is also helpful!
thanks for this! but i love knowing about the complicated ways u would do things before knowing these tips hahahaha - it’s fun to see how we problem solve to get the same results even if we don’t know the shortcuts (i was the same with finding convoluted ways to color before discovering things like clipping mask) xx
Thanks so much for this this was super helpful! Especially the layer style/outline tip you have no idea how long I've searched for outline brushes and how much I've agonised over this. You're a lifesaver💕
another option for the shape fill brush is a similar one to the csp one, althought it doesn't count as a brush, it's still a great feature. It's the enclose and fill tool next to the bucket tool on it's right, when you use it though, make sure you have a copy of your lineart layer because it fills inside the lines only if you use it on the same layer
Another tip: If you want to recolour an entire layer, you can select the gradient tool, turn 'Preserve Alpha' on, and click outside the canvas and then drag away and bam! the layer is recoloured without using any new layers or giant brush presets
an I add that If you find the layout confusing, you can move pretty much everything as you wish and keyboard shortcuts are also flexible. also you don't really need most of the fine settings when you are just starting, I advice to use basic brushes and tools and figure things out as you go.
i started with krita before i moved to csp, and what i noticed is that the ui is pretty similar to csp n photoshop, highly recommend krita for starting digital art, its free too
squiggly squablers!??????!?!??! but seriously that alfa lock would have been exactly what i needed like a week or something ago cuz i was trying to change parts of the line art so i just used the new colour i wanted to block off the line art i wanted coloured like that and use the bucket tool but it was not efficient at all 😭😭
Extra tip: if you cant use the contiguous selection tool because you are the kind of person who doesn't close shapes while doing line art use the sketch for reference. Unlike photoshop's quick selection tool, This tool can only recognize full shapes or wide areas of color/ value.
I use Krita for 5 years now and I advice you to pleassssse change the basic background colour to light gray, bright white fucks up your colour perception! It can be done in settings when you create a new canvas
Great tips, thank you so much! I'd like to add the Colorize mask, please check out some youtube tutorials for it because it makes coloring lineart work SO much faster.
Great video, learned lots of new things! Could I ask where you found the brush you used to draw your explaining character in the video? :) Ive been looking for one just like that for a long time 😅
To copy a specific thing to a new layer. Lasso it then hit ctrl C then ctrl v If u made a mistake and cant find it in your layers..just hold r and click on the mistake and it will jump you to the canvas
I've just downloaded Krita and I'm baffled to hear that people find Krita's interface hard to grasp when CSP exists. I paid for CSP and ISTG it overwhelms me to death.
i think it might have to do with krita being a lot of peoples first ever drawing program since it's free. That was at least the case for me, but I do agree CSPs interface is also very overwhelming
Hey I liked your video. I have a request could you make a video on how to draw in krita by using screenless tablets. I use veikk vk640 for drawings cuz I can't afford those expensive tablets
@brunoralph3492 i mean, it's not that big of a difference for using screen tablets. It's more about learning the hand eye coordination between the drawing tablet and display screen. I've used both types of tablets, and they both work really well for drawing (even with display tablets being easier to transition to)
on my old pc i had a problem where the pen wouldnt switch to eraser when i pressed the option on my pen, i never touched any settings. i want to reinstall krita on my new pc in the hope that its fixed, but if i were to encounter this problem again, how would i fix it?
Hello! I’m new to animating in Krita. I’ve run into an issue where when I add hold frames and then hit playback none of my hold frames show my drawing. But when I select the frame my drawing appears. I don’t know why this is happening. I have the latest version of the program. Please help 🙏
Krita's main issue is the HORRIBLE tanking in performance under windows, especially as you increase resolution. A transform operation can take 10+ seconds at 8k
honestly both, its basically like any other art program, very similar to csp and photoshop but just for free. but ofcouse i do also appreciate that its open source so you can customize it a lot!
