The mention of "Don't overcharge the Plasmapistol!" reminds me of a game in 4th Ed. where a buddy of mine fired a sergeant, a commissar and a guardsman with plasmagun at my dreadnought. The result were three pairs of smoking boots and a confused dreadnought.
CP reroll continues to prove to be the biggest trap strategem in the game. Look how many times Guard used it into literally nothing. Just focus on Reinforcements, Smoke, Tank Shock, Fields of Fire, Armoured Might. Don't use Overwatch unless your unit has some ability with it (heavy weapons squad) or a bunch of flamers, Catachans, Hellhounds etc.
James loves free stuff right! last time he took 3 sentinels for the price of one this time he says his castellen has 3 yes 3 orders😂😂😂 he can only make 1 order upgrading him allows 1 extra order making it 2 orders 😂😂 he makes it up as he goes along 😂😂
Kauyon wording has changed from the Index, you're now getting SH2 when targeting your Spotted unit. Meaning, no SH2 on split fire, but it also means that Observers get SH2 if they're shooting at the target they observed.
Also I do believe (and I may be wrong as not long started playing guard) only lord solar can order baneblade as it lacks key word for tank commander to be able to issue orders to it, believe it to be squadron it is lacking
nice match.. from your first turn i noticed a few things there is a fair few mis-wording of things though from kauyon giving lethal when it sustained, seeker missiles etc also noted you forgot about the -1 to wound when something shoots at your strike team. smoke was popped on his baneblade and you didn't count for it with ghostkeel (despite it didn't matter anyways) missed re roll of 1's from your hammerhead being guided by stealth teams. didn't say about ethereal gaining cp? assumed it failed because you only had 1 cp though his unit despite battleshock could of guided with their markerlight.
wow, cover save made a huge difference. Paper Tau tanks somehow enduring guard firepower for two turns.. That being said there is no reason to use battle cannons. AP -1 is just terrible. I think it's worth a try to run Punisher tank commanders + Rogal dorns. This way you have AP5 melta and AP3 opressor cannon
James really needs to add some proper anti-tank to his Guard army. A handful of lascannons on the tanks really isn't enough, take a vanquisher or two or swap the Baneblade for a Shadowsword

All those battlecannons are great for the bikes in Luke's Eldar army but no use at all against Battlesuits, Tyrannofexes and Wraithlords, all of which you come across several of every game, whereas all those things carry S12 or above guns to mulch Russes. Even without Luke's statistically improbable dice rolling you're at a disadvantage from the start! :D

The turn 2 charge with the Roughriders charge looks (from the camera angle) to have made the move through the ruin. They're "mounted" and would have to have gone around. I'm sure the Rohirrim horsemanship and skill wouldn't bothered by it though!
Do your Strike Teams have Marker Drones just so they can advance and observe? Otherwise I thought all Strike & Breacher Teams already had the Markerlight keywords.
the ethereal does not have "for the greater good" rule, so there's no point on giving him a marker drone. I think he can observe as long as he is in a unit but if the unit dies, he can't use the marker drone
I know The Guard beat the Tau in a previous battle report, but I do feel the Guard is underpowered atm. Battle cannons should have AP -2. And points should drop a little for many units...
I think the guard are in a pretty good place atm. Apart from the army rule, which only the artillery benefit from the most, as you want your other stuff running around the board. Its the fact the James likes more 'thematic' armies, which is great but can often catch him out playing against luke who has better combos. An enginseer 4+InvSv and healing for 45pts could have saved him a few wounds for 1/4 of his army, then move onto dorn or russ. Including characters like creed for a free strat a round, which James rarely utilises the guard strats anyway. Reinforcements eg is a big one to miss out on, bringing back those rough riders, sentinels or inf could have been really beneficial. or fields of fire for extra AP-1 which can be free with LR exterminator. + more! :) imo
@@TheUnseenDragon I'm not calling for major changes, but just a little tweaking here and there, bringing an exterminator for the -1AP is a big investment and most targets you want an extra -1 AP on aren't the ideal targets for it's main gun...
If you don't mind me asking what bits do you not enjoy as much? We were looking through our old club reports in a misty eyed moment for the games back in 5th, 6th, & 7th... And we we're shocked at how many games were janky and incredibly broken. Several armies having access to T7/8 monsters which back then S4 weapons couldn't hurt.. combined with the way combat results worked (both sides roll a dice and add initiative, if winner wins unit is auto wiped). And some of the post game reports were awful. Also some of the missions were just impossible for certain armies which we'd also forgotten! Not saying 10th is perfect as every game out there has issues but genuinely interested 🙂
@@davehumphries7635 For me I think it's more the approach to the game than the rules, people are treating a fun SciFi game as a sport, taking it very serious and competitive play has made a game based on narratives and story telling more and more boring. Back in earlier editions it was a lot more fun and creative!
@@davehumphries7635 Some highlights 6th ed Wasn't big fan of 7th myself D weapons and formations Wasn't a thing in 7 th edition would have been very written had some of the little problems but it did fix some of the major problems of 6 edition. The things I enjoyed were weapons could only hurt things that they should be able to not everything wounds on a 6 Command points were not a thing So no free reroll everywhere There was a weapon skill chart Which was very simple And really showed the combat difference between certain characters and standard infantry tank armor facings And equipment was paid for in points rather than you choose whatever for a set point value Which I think is the biggest floor of 10th edition Universal special rules were properly done And there wasn't an update every week Which is nice that the company is giving so much support with rules update But it just makes it a job to keep up with the current The current rules If you do have the time to go read the older books a lot of armies actually had character Not saying they were good But I found one that I enjoyed as a Teenager Was the jetpack rule that Tau battlesuits had Monstrous creatures at the time were g w's new think same in fantasy it just didn't go as well for the Fantasy ones they weren't broken But games workshop were trying to sell them like candy which did work I love the xv104 They are a lot of fantastic models from that time But they greed ruined a lot of it I could talk forever about the edition Even though I stopped playing at 9th I still enjoy the lore And I have no plans to sell my 25000 points of tau in 9th points

I'd go as far to say a lot more people play it than most realise; but the competitive scene is always the louder one so gets more attention - it's the same for most tabletop games too which seems to be the trend nowadays unfortunately.

They count as wargear only so I guess u don't need them. But I use a few as reminders on the table👍🙂

When I try this Tau list out it ends up at 2100p. Has there been any changes recently?
