Homemade Trout Dough Bait

A few weeks ago I seen a post in the fishing report about making homemade dough bait for trout. So this was our first attempt at making that happen. Using HALF a can of TUNA, about THREE QUARTERS of a cup of BISQUICK PANCAKE MIX, and a ONE TEASPOON of either GARLIC SALT or GARLIC POWDER I made a decent sized dough ball. (Ended up making two dough balls with one can of tuna, one with garlic salt, and the other with garlic powder) We took the bait to a local Urban Pond that is stocked with Trout and tried it out. Do you like the new pown better than the old one the old one was bigger than this one. Going to try this but put food coloring in it. If you use circle hook it will just hook them on the lip. Works great for catch and release.

There are some vicious birds at Tingley lately; they have been catching fish and swallowing them whole. They will actually watch where you cast your bait, and then they will dive in that area to bogart any fish that hover around your bait. I notice that I will get a bite once those birds shift to another area. It's bonkers.

Ya I've seen those birds! I've actually caught fish and released them only for those birds to come in and swallow them when they take off. Crazy

@@nmangling I meant to ask you, do you happen to know if San Gregorio Lake freezes over for ice fishing?

@Velocity Runner I'm pretty sure it does freeze over. Plus the road to the parking lot is probably snow packed and not plowed. They usually keep the gate closed in the winter.

I've noticed that buying power bait and salmon eggs in the last winter months doesn't really work... the bait is old and doesn't smell right... it's dated bait no matter where you get it... so making your own trout bait seems to work alot better.... other scents you can use are anise, shrimp, other fish,meal worms, sardines, class and raw garlic.

Bait is so expensive now a days. Im curious to see how that dough bait does in a river system so maybe I can try one of the baits you mentioned. Thanks for watching!
