To anyone watching: Please do not cut the midnight clock from your deck. I would rather cut the Locket. The Clock is an amazing 3CMC mana rock that also after 3 turns gives you a free Time Twister. I have seen many games when The Clock made a huge difference. It is very solid and most likely not a great cut.
I'm not knocking mid night clock, Don't get me wrong, It's good, As a cedh player, It's something you won't see there, It's a manalith for sure, But the last bit, It takes 3 turn cycles to get the 12th counter without using the ability to add a counter. By the time you get to your 11th counter someone can easily just destroy it, They have 3 turn cycles to stop you getting card advantage, In a 4 player game, Someone will more likely than not destroy it.
Midnight Clock was way underrated in this video. Like, yea, it's a 3 mana rock, but it's a GOOD one. And the fact Jake literally said "well if you ignore that last bit of text, it's just a manalith" kinda feels indicative that they were stretching for that one. Similarly, I was surprised Crush Contraband was the first card to get cut, but maybe that's only cause in my play group it's always a godsend of a card. Other than those though, good suggestions!
Haven’t watched yet but I’m just poking through comments. Midnight Clock is a huge sleeper card for me. It is kinda like manalith and I actually think that’s good. It’s not threatening at all. It’s just an innocuous little ramp card until it suddenly gives you a new hand in like 3 turns. It’s been so good for me
It's kind of strange because they hype up wheels like they're among the best kinds of card draw, yet a personal wheel built into a mana rock (something we'd normally want to play) they somehow call low power. I bet they'd like to use the argument "it's too slow if you draw it late". Well guess what's also bad to draw late... any other mana rock!
I was kind of surprised that crush contraband was a card to cut. With enchantments like Parallel Lives, Smothering Tithe, Underworld Breach, and the new green enchantment that makes treasures by tapping your lands, this card is just a must have. I am not sure if I need to explain the crazy artifacts as well. And these are all in cEDH as well, so I will have this card in my deck
Yeah it was wild to me that they went for midnight clock and crush contraband and not… the 6 mana 3/3 ‘whenever you cast a spirit, draw a card’. Midnight clock refills your hand and is harder to remove. Sire of the storms refills your hand one card at a time, slowly, and only if you’re playing spirits consistently, for 6 mana and garbage stats that make it susceptible to very cheap removal from lightning bolt to candy grapple from the latest set. I honestly think they just dropped the ball and removed sire of the storms immediately, but then forgot they removed it so picked 10 more, because its so clear that that card is hot garbage to anyone.
I’ve built the deck and love it. Had a game last week where I used Twilight Drover and Anointed Procession to make 12 spirits on the end step, then I slapped down obelisk of urd (which is my recommendation for a budget add at $3) and proceeded to go all in at the player in the lead out nowhere with a spirit army
Hello, Midnight Clock draws 7 cards? You have 3 turns to dump your hand and trade in your mana rock for your own personal Time Twister. That's worth playing a 3 mana rock.
Honestly I had overlooked the card but I read it when they talked about it, Turn 6 zero mana Timetwister is not bad, and it's a mana rock on the way there too. Even if they remove it on turn 5, that's generally a card from their hand and some mana, so it became a mana rock that was somewhere between a Flagbearer and 1/3rd of a Time Walk Thanks for helping me re-evaluate this card!
I love the card Verity Circle so much, that I had been working on an Archelos deck that's all about tapping stuff down and really works hard to tutor up Verity Circle... The fact that this deck comes with partner commanders that are designed for this specific strategy makes me SO happy. I know they don't seem particularly strong, but I think I could have fun with a lower powered janky deck like this.
Very good suggestions, i would add these: -Kira, Great Glass-Spinner -Skyclave Apparition -Mystic Reflection -Reflections of Littjara -Strixhaven Stadium
Especially since the value of the deck is so low, it feels like a crime that they didn't include Drogskol Reaver and Selfless Spirit from the start. I am almost offended.
Yeah. Sometimes they are neglecting the manabase or utility lands in the upgrades. I know, some of them are no budget but still, they are missing a big field of improvement there
While they do neglect updating the manabase, it would be pointless to discuss it because if they did, they would be talking about the same cards on every episode as mana base cards are almost identical from deck to deck.
Love the new art on swords to plowshares by Jesper! Was actually surprised that propaganda wasn't mentioned as windborn and ghostly prison were kept in. I rarely build or play azorious as I find it rather oppressive, but I do however collect the precons (leaving them as purchased). I always love to see what you guys put in and take out. Great job, Jake and Jimmy!
A bit of a pricey upgrade at $10 but Blasting Station would be amazing in this deck. There are all kinds of ways to go infinite with it but it's just good value
I would recommend Keep Watch, it's a [2U] instant that let's you draw equal to the number of attacking creatures (doesn't even have to be your own either) Besides that... Heraldic Banner is nice, doubles as an anthem and a mana rock Coat of Arms is a nice tribal card, very powerful board buff Extra turns can help close out a game too Teferi's Veil is a nice way to protect your attackers after combat.. same with Guardian of Faith (and is also a Spirit)
Im thinking of merging my "upgraded" Ranar flying creatures deck with this one. I would recommend 2 cards Sakashima's Will ($0.49) and Steel-Plume Marshal ($0.75)
@@agentofjazz6624 well it is flyers, but this commander cares about spirits, the more you have, the better on top of all the good and old spirits, this deck has very good potential,so really you need token generators for this, not more flyers... for example, you can use two of myojin and shrines for this deck for extra draw power, plus there spirits on there own,the disturb mechanic is great and this commanders best friend cause it guarantees you will consistantly have spirits there are a few cards that make spirits as well
I'm not suggesting anyone adds it but Spirit en-Dal has always been one of my favorite pet cards and I loved having an excuse to finally put it in a deck.
2 mana repeatable sorcery (that is extremely difficult to counter) that makes 1 creature unblockable till end of turn is pretty good (unless someone is running Shadow which is unlikely). Some Forecast abilities are very underrated.

Seriously. I just want to be able to see the list of cards in and cards out in one place so I can add them to my cart. Seems like they are leaving a lot of money on the table.
That's sometimes the funny thing with the value: a 'budget' Deck can sometimes be as powerful as a 300$ deck. The commander makes it very strong in this case.
@@anubis44r Oh yeah, I love the list, but with the constant release of precons and the increase in price, wotc should make a better job with reprints. I think this is an all-time low
Part of the problem is that spirits as a tribe have always seemed to be missing one or two pieces to make it gel together in EDH. As a result the pieces haven't really ever been expensive in the same way that say Vampires or equipment are. This deck includes things, like Millicent herself, that address some of them. Tapping also has had similar issues. If they'd made it an Aura Spirits deck it could have been a higher reprint value. However they've done multiple aura decks. I think it's better that they went with the themes they did though. It allows for more viable strategies.
Verity circle is actually a really good card. There are so many other decks that have mana dorks or creatures that tap for effect that will trigger it. And it flies under the radar, so will stick around much longer than a Bolas' citadel. I have an azorius 60 card deck just built around verity circle.
CUSTODI SOULBINDERS if you’re playing an opponent who is also playing a token deck, dragons, vampires, humans, zombies.. and you put this out mid game.. it says “other creatures OTB” not creatures you control so it could come out as a 20/20 or even higher. I think this card could be pretty big. Even if you didn’t do the activated ability. It could be a BIG X/X 4 CMC It’s a huge blocker or can blow a hole in a defense and take up a few blockers while other creatures swoop in.
I was thinking the same thing, seems like by turn 4 its probably gonna come out as a somewhere between 5/5 - 9/9 depending on your playgroup/order in the turns. And there are so many other synergy creatures in this deck that having a turn 4 that big is a great thing to get nuked instead of another piece
I'm only been playing magic a couple months and this was ny furst deck (I also bought Lenore's also). But anyway, I was struggling with this one cause my lack of experience, and this video has just opened my eyes!! Thanks you guys so much!! Ill be following you for nore!
For Jake, if you like the push and pull of the Digimon resources and you're an RPG guy, check out "Technoir". A Cyberpunk kinda game where you pass dice back and forth with the GM to make things happen.
Anyone else coming back to watch this after getting the precon themselves, then finding that Drogskol Reaver is now 3x the price it was before this video?
Phantom General cost 1 white 4 colorless 2/3 is a spirit. Creature tokens you control get +1/+1 Now all your Spirit creature tokens are 2/2 with flying.
Just imagine having curiosity crafter on board swinging 5 creatures and then mirriorweaving them all as copies of curiosity crafter.... 6 instances of draw 5 for a draw 30 cards.
Just gonna throw all the new good spirits and the good disturb spirit/enchantments into my Kykar deck. Will probably make the partner pair deck. Bunch of cards that tap down a card every turn or just sleep etc and make a new voltron deck
I love Midnight Clock. It is a fun card. Your opponents worry about it but often nobody wants to spend their removal on it. And you can say each upkeep that another hour has passed
"I don't like cards that don't do anything when you play them" 2 minutes later: I really endorse Haunted Library as one of the best cards in this deck. ... W.o.w. It's bad.
I’m SO STOKED FOR THIS PRE CON. Never bought one in my 5+ years of magic and this is the first one I’m excited enough to buy since I really got into magic during Shadows over innistrad. Can’t wait
Haunting Imitation has won me 2 of the 3 games I’ve played with this deck. I personally would not take that card out. it isn’t always going to be good but it has done crazy things for me
it's really not that bad; especially when you need some spirits on the board. I feel like it's more of a contengency card; best part is it goes back to hand if you pull nothing .
Here are the actual cards you want to cut: Stage 1 - Custodi Soulbinders, Boreas Charger, Sudden Salvation, Storm of Souls, Haunted Library, Oyobi Who Split the Heavens, Geist of Saint Traft, Verity Circle Stage 2 - Timin Youthful Geist, Rhoda Geist Avenger, Breath of the Sleepless, Nebelghast Herald, Shacklegeist, Hanged Executioner, Spectral Shepherd, Flood of Tears Stage 3 - Haunting Imitation, Sire of the Storm, Custodi Squire, Knight of the White Orchid, Karmic Guide, Disorder in the Court, Ghostly Prison, Windborne Muse Stage 4 - Occult Epiphany, Azorius Locket, Hallowed Spiritkeeper, Rattlechains, Priest of the Blessed Graf, Angel of Flight Alabaster, Kami of the Crescent Moon, Commander's Sphere
Actually, Kira can backfire on you because the bubble is symmetrical. If you want to give one of your spirits an Invocation of Saint Traft, for example, you'll have to do something else otherwise your Invocation gets countered.
@@sybrenlaga5990 It's pretty effective at doing that. Cyclonic Rift is a 2 mana value spell, even if it's cast overloaded. And even if they get to cast it for free, you cannot pay alternate costs when casting a spell without paying its mana cost, so the free version of it will only bounce one thing.
It's a flavor card for me but Oyobi didn't get cut. I love it. Yeah, its 7 cmc but it never just sits there on the battlefield. It is always making tokens for me and I love it.
Ive had Custodi Soulbinders become 20/20+ a few times, the group I play in often has a player or more who creates a bunch of tokens. Very fun as threat to throw out
The way you looked at ghastly mimicry was actually a little narrow. Enchant your opponents big baddies! Consecrated sphinx? Elder gargs? Sheoldred? It that betrays? The power!
In another spirit deck, with Ranar the Ever-Watchful as its commander (spirit/exile hybrid, then), I see Disorder in the Court as an amazing card. Personally, of the non-creature, non-treasure, non-gold tokens, I consider clues to be some of the better ones. Not super impressed by food tokens or blood tokens, but they have their uses. I certainly do not put clues on the same level as scrying; paying 2 to draw a card is a good rate, right? "One of the best rates you'll find in Magic" I think Jimmy said once. Of course, it requires having clue tokens, but in the right decks, there will be ways to generate clues by following your main strategy. That doesn't mean clues are great for all decks, but for some, I think they're more than okay. Good episode! I'm excited to see what I can use from the decks, or if I'll want to get one or both for myself!
Great card, but I prefer it in tribes with tap abilities like Elves, or Dwarves when they crew vehicles, or hasty Goblins who just want to attack every turn. Spirits aren't hasty and generally don't have tap abilities, so unless you're swinging out for a big attack and all your 1/1s are still alive, they'll spend most of the game untapped.
I bought this deck, because I’ve never played Azorius in commander and I’ve also never tried a token deck before, so this is going to be a fun learning experience I think. I had to put in Archaeomancer’s map because it’s literally the best ramp card in white. I put in a few more counterspells because I wanted to lean into the control-y aspect a little more to protect my spirit army. And I’m going to be swapping out Temple of the False God for a Reliquary tower, because this deck really draws a lot of cards and I don’t like discarding. Lol.
I personally Added: Akromas Will, Memory Erosion, Reliquary Tower, AEtherize, Counterspell, Kami of False Hope, Mirrorweave, Release to Memory, Spell Queller, and Ribbons of the Rekai. I know Memory Erosion might seem to mean because it reads "Whenever an opponent casts a spell, that player puts the top two cards of his or her library into his or her graveyard." but hear me out, it synergizes very well with Release to Memory because Release to Memory exiles graveyards and creates 1/1 Spirits per creature card exiled, which then synergizes very well with Millicent.
I am actually happy with this deck. the kaldheim was a disappointment. i thought that one was spirit tribal but nyuuuu it was blink/exile/thingy tribal. and I love tribal so Spirit Squadron scratches my itch in a good way :)
I'm happy with that Kaldheim one because there's plenty of ramp/mana stuff, and it's got 3 different commanders you could run in total (Ranar, Vega, Brago) so lots of fun to be had there. But it's definitely right that the spirit/flier synergy is not really good in it.
I am a huge fan of yours and generally really enjoy your content. That being said, I feel like I need to comment on how this particular episode handled the pathetic reprint value of this deck. While I do agree that there is a time value here of not having to go out and find each individual card for this deck, there is zero denying that the value of this deck is atrocious, especially compared to other recent decks. What makes it worse is that there are so many cards in blue and in white that desperately need reprints in accessible places. Cards like smothering tithe, tefaris protection, hallowed fountain, rhystic study, etc are all cards that the community at large really needs and this was a great opportunity to print at least one of them. Instead, wizards honestly gave a pile of "synergy" with little value outside of games against other precons (though this one seems a lot weaker than other precons so not sure how it'll hold up).
Yeah but depending on your playgroup they may not be a fan of those. If they don't mind, this would probably let you swing out for the win if casted on the right turn
Both Midnight Hunt commanders came with Talismans, but the Crimson Vows, with the only color combination to not get a reprint, doesn't get them? Bolagna!!
Verity Circle?! Finally! I've been waiting for this card ever since Teysa used it to get a confession from a defentand, waaaay back in the original Ravnica romances!
Oh you poor soul Jimmy... Crush is likely TWO EXILES for 2 ea. Thats rather sweet! (Great for politics too) And Custodi, you always hold till later, when it comes in as a mere 20/20
7:44, I'm assuming they mean if one of your partner with commanders ends up in your deck from an effect. Otherwise, you can't have one or the other in the 99 because color identity
I think they're talking about decks that don't run them as commanders. If you have both in your deck, when one of them enters the battlefield, you can search for the other. (Technically, you can still search if you're running them as commanders, but you'll obviously fail to find...)

Here are the actual cards you want to cut:
Stage 1 -
Custodi Soulbinders, Boreas Charger, Sudden Salvation, Storm of Souls, Haunted Library, Oyobi Who Split the Heavens, Geist of Saint Traft, Verity Circle
Stage 2 -
Timin Youthful Geist, Rhoda Geist Avenger, Breath of the Sleepless, Nebelghast Herald, Shacklegeist, Hanged Executioner, Spectral Shepherd, Flood of Tears
Stage 3 -
Haunting Imitation, Sire of the Storm, Custodi Squire, Knight of the White Orchid, Karmic Guide, Disorder in the Court, Ghostly Prison, Windborne Muse
Stage 4 - Occult Epiphany, Azorius Locket, Hallowed Spiritkeeper, Rattlechains, Priest of the Blessed Graf, Angel of Flight Alabaster, Kami of the Crescent Moon, Commander's Sphere
I feel like kira, great glass spinner would be a great include. Essentially gives less good hexproof to all your creatures
And it's a spirit
Actually, Kira can backfire on you because the bubble is symmetrical. If you want to give one of your spirits an Invocation of Saint Traft, for example, you'll have to do something else otherwise your Invocation gets countered.
@@noahcarroll4944 oh yea, i suppose it is technically shroud, i guess i missed it and thought it was one sided like hexproof
@@wizap7 I figured that out myself when I stuck Kira in my own Tim deck
i like that spell quellor just shuts down cyclonic rifts.
It doesn’t
@@sybrenlaga5990 It's pretty effective at doing that. Cyclonic Rift is a 2 mana value spell, even if it's cast overloaded. And even if they get to cast it for free, you cannot pay alternate costs when casting a spell without paying its mana cost, so the free version of it will only bounce one thing.
@@therealax6 Oh yeah i suppose you're right! My bad!
It's a flavor card for me but Oyobi didn't get cut. I love it. Yeah, its 7 cmc but it never just sits there on the battlefield. It is always making tokens for me and I love it.
This precon is so good I think you may be able to pull top in a casual EDH pod without edits. Quite frequently too!
Personally I would’ve kept Haunting Imitation. It’s most certainly not a great card, but I like when RNG makes magic hella nutty.
@@blaze556922 RNG means “Random Number Generator”. Basically it just means random
The power!
Verity circle is a good card.just put it out there and let your opponents draw you cards. That tap ability is just an extra bonus not the main dish.
Disorder in the court is amazing for ranar. Buying these two prevons and smooshing them together is the highlight of my xmas
Throne of the God Pharaoh in this deck = good idea.
Man!.. we need more mono black spirits! I am waiting on Kamigawa. Fingers crossed.
I'm hoping for esper spirits
This new spirit deck has me really torn on whether to upgrade my current Ranar ETB/Spirit deck or rebuild spirits with Millicent as the Commander.
Imma build both! They actually wanna swap a couple cards!
Lol.
How was your learning experience? I've never played Azorius and I purchased this precon for the exact same reason. So far, Im enjoying it.
curiosity caster is a messed up card if you think about it cause it made a cat and well curiosity killed the cat
I upgraded the Ranar deck and it’s actually pretty fun
I'm happy with that Kaldheim one because there's plenty of ramp/mana stuff, and it's got 3 different commanders you could run in total (Ranar, Vega, Brago) so lots of fun to be had there. But it's definitely right that the spirit/flier synergy is not really good in it.
@@blaze556922 im not saying it's not good because it is! I'm saying it's not fun for me. there's a difference!
@@blaze556922 "When you said it was a disappointment that indicates you feel it was a failure across the board."
That's just you assuming things
It would be cool if you’d go over the new cards for the decks in the future.
Crushed Contraband is a solid removal spell. It is exile, instant speed and can give you a 2 for 1. Much better than return to dust.
I was making a kykar deck before crimson vow got released, i’m happy with this new set
Havent even thought about the Curiosity Crafter. Thats quite a good card for the Deck
I fucking love Drokskol Reaver, it's nooooot the best in edh, but as a pet card I'm so happy to hear it's going in this deck
I'm excited, I'll be taking a few cards out for my Kwain deck, and then replacing them with some other stuff.
So what you're saying is Oyobi is actually Admiral Ackbar?
i really like midnight clock, cut the cluestone instead, that card is actively bad
Hi, i would like to start EDH with this deck. I realy like Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite. Do you think i could inclued her in the deck ?
Yeah but depending on your playgroup they may not be a fan of those. If they don't mind, this would probably let you swing out for the win if casted on the right turn
who knows jimmy from Video Game High School? that was a sick show btw
Question: do you think Mr. Boss is a Brudiclad player?
Is there a list of what to swap?
Video starts @3:35
My man
MirrorWeave!! One of my pet cards as well. OUR TIME HAS COME!
Doesn’t this deck also run Kami of the Crescent Moon? He can totally be a group hug commander
Disorder in the Court should go in Ranar so you make spirits regardless what you exile.
Not the spirit card but if you create white tokens and atack with them is amazing for this deck. Court Street Denizen.
Kaldheim's Phantom Premonition's commander, Ranar, will enjoy some of these cards.
Great idea mix this two precon decks.
Court of grace and drogskol cavalry seem really good in the deck.
Both Midnight Hunt commanders came with Talismans, but the Crimson Vows, with the only color combination to not get a reprint, doesn't get them? Bolagna!!
Boss Wong my favourite
Haunting imitation has gotten me some cool stuff but maybe that is just my playgroup haha
Olso did not play with Verity Circle yet but with al the cheap creatures with tap abbilities and mana dorks i think it would be pretty good
Are you guys planning on making an upgrade guide for the vampire deck too?
I'm building this with Geist of Saint Traft at the helm and Ranar as Ghost Commander. Time to call the spirits...
Have you guys thought about true conviction? All creatures you control have double strike and lifelink. Double millicent triggers on combat damage.
Verity Circle?!
Finally!
I've been waiting for this card ever since Teysa used it to get a confession from a defentand, waaaay back in the original Ravnica romances!
It was originally in Ravnica Allegiance. It was really fun to pair with Gadwick the Wizened when they were both in standard together.
A bit off topic, I'm curious where you get those blue dice for counters that you use in your gameplay videos.
Why is there no link to a text list of what to add and subtract?
Oh you poor soul Jimmy...
Crush is likely TWO EXILES for 2 ea. Thats rather sweet! (Great for politics too)
And Custodi, you always hold till later, when it comes in as a mere 20/20
Did they add dead eye navigator?
How does Dovin care about artifact synergies?
7:44, I'm assuming they mean if one of your partner with commanders ends up in your deck from an effect. Otherwise, you can't have one or the other in the 99 because color identity
I think they're talking about decks that don't run them as commanders. If you have both in your deck, when one of them enters the battlefield, you can search for the other. (Technically, you can still search if you're running them as commanders, but you'll obviously fail to find...)
As someone who plays dozens of historic brawl games a day on arena. Midnight cloak is soooo strong in so many situations.
Why keep Kami of the Crescent Moon? I don’t get that card.
Like it much more than the WU-Kaldheim-Deck... Think I will buy it as a guest deck.
Will their be a game nights with the innistrad pre-cons?
Might pick this up and turn my Kykar deck into a spirit tribal deck
if twilight drover is in play, he becomes HUGE when you use the token half of perplexing test
Isnt spell queller a non-bo with donnal?
