The additional copy of Mossfire Bridge was actually supposed to be Nissa, Voice of Zendikar. It was an official image on the spoiler page until they took it down, but it's still on Scryfall. No effing clue why Wizards lied about taking it out.
Well, it could have been removed way earlier, but the image already got mocked up.
But hey, all you guys having inside information, when's the RL list getting removed?

Additionally is there a card which produced the plant token contained in the precon?

@@Karonar there is still a plant token in the visual spoiler token 9 IIRC. Only the Nissa was removed from the visual spoiler leaving a gap between 121 and 123.
I’m not mad it was missed, mistakes happen. I just don’t like the mindset of people lying about it being a basic land to cover themselves.
Also gonna leave a big gap in my Commander collections I keep as there will likely not be a 122 card to put in the binder

Just picked up this deck 2023 Amazon Prime Day for about $20 USD! Super excited to play with it, I've peronally only ever played MTG Arean on my phone
What do you all think about putting Nissa, Voice of Zendikar in there and taking out one of the Mossfire Valleys? She can put a counter on all your creatures in one activation and also make creatures. Seems perfect for this deck and it's only $4. Oh and the deck will come with a plant token already even though none of the included cards make plant tokens so easy upgrade. #nec122

I think adding Nissa, Voice of Zendikar would be a great way to use that 0/1 plant token they included with the precon. It feels like a waste of a token since nothing else in the deck makes plant tokens

Haven't seen any mention of my boi, Scavenging Ooze. Graveyard hate and makes himself modified. What's not to love from him? Also Nissa, Voice of Zendikar, Halana and Alena, Partners (the card from Crimson Vow, not the seperate cards from Commander Legends that have Partner) and The Great Henge are solid includes in here as well. GH will make your non-tokens modified when they enter and draw you a card, while also tapping for GG. HAP makes something modified and gives it haste at the start of combat on your turn, and Nissa both makes tokens and can modify your whole board at once next turn.

Hey, Just picked this deck up and I'm worried that if I take the cards that they recommended to take out it will mess up the way the deck runs. you seem like your know what your talking about what are your thoughts on their picks for what to take out?
I really like the set dressing for this episode. The four lights behind Josh and Ashlen are way more subtle than you'd expect from giant tube lights. And altogether everything looks lovely and Kamigawa-y.
12:40 Sword of Truth and Justice also puts a +1/+1 counter on a creature when it deals damage, then proliferates. It will still provide 2/3 requirements for Kosei.
yes, but only in the following turn, since it will deal damage, the triggers go on the stack and since it the Kosei requirements weren't met you don't get the carddraw that turn. At least afaik.
I bought this one and immediately turned it into a Gruul Enchantress build. Love it!

I feel like the fact that this deck isn't actually playable out of the box needs more attention. There's a duplicate nonbasic land in the decklist.
I'm super surprised that Hardened Scales didn't make the upgrade list. It's not too expensive and makes a huge impact when it comes to the +1/+1 counters the deck wants to make.

The commander feels like Strefan in the way you get to choose to focus on the build, what direction and proportions you need in the deck. I love it and seems really fun.
Ashlen literally always has the best picks! Gunna have to pick up this precon.

I've been in games with chishiro where Bonehoard gives like +20/+20 lol, it often feels like one of the best cards in the deck to me

So my concern here is, in the precon we'll get a Nissa (the card number 122 that was deleted in the card image gallery) or we'll get two mossfires and no planeswalker in the set?
So, i love planeswalkers but also love hydras!
So idk if purchase the vehicle precon (supposely with Jace) or get this commander set...

for me, I bought for the upgrade of this deck (have not decided waht to take yet) Highland Forest, Embercleave, boots of speed, gruul signet, slippery bogbonder, mending touch, frillscare mentor, Heightened Reflexes, Fully Grown, Titanoth Rex, lightning bolt, trollhide, cultivate, kodama's reach, harmonize, manamorphose, rune of might and rune of speed
how about a runed crown?
maybe it's a good tutor for runes specifically

Hardened Scales should be an auto include for this deck imo. I am surprised this wasnt at least an honorable mention.

Kaima, the Fractured Calm works after casting Smoke Spirit's Aid. What this deck needs, is trample for each creature with +1/+1 counter 😁
So far I have played Primeval Protector for G -> pretty good value.

Ulasht is my Gruul Deck...
I run a bunch of Equipment to give Ulasht Deathtouch so that I can poke dudes with Ulasht and they die. The nice part about Having Ulasht in the Zone as apposed to the 99 is if I run him out of counters I can recast him.
I wanted to get back into paper Magic after joining play group at my lgs, so I just bought the Upgrades Unleashed deck today. Now I’ll probably upgrade the deck while I’m gathering cards for my first custom deck.
I know there isn't a ton of options in these colors, but Chishiro's interaction with Persist is a fun thing I think some people are sleeping on.
Cauldron of Souls could be a good way to keep Chishiro and your other non-token creatures alive, but also brings them back modified so the -1/-1 counter almost isn't even a downside.
Cream of the Crop is nuts with Lurking Predators btw - you can almost guarantee each trigger will chain into the next.
Don't forget #NEC122 ! Great upgrade right there! 👍
Here’s some extras I put in mine that work really well, all under $1: Halana and Elaina, Partners; Cytoplast Root-Kin; Ring of Kalonia; Mask of Memory; Vastwood Hydra.
And then for $8.50, Kodama of the West; an INSANE ramp in this deck. 2+Green, Modified creatures have trample, whenever a modified creature you control deals combat damage, you tutor a basic land (ETB Tapped). It’s not the best turn 2-3 ramp, but turn 4+ you just soar away with ramp, and you probably save it until you have a few other modded creatures on the board ready to attack the turn you cast this. This also lets you take out some of the other worse ramp in the deck, and fill it with my cheaper recommendations above.
A few other randoms that work: Cliffhaven Kitesail; Hardened Scales; Druid’s deliverance; Dragonborn Champion; Goblin Anarchomancer. They all kinda do what the deck already does, but just a little bit better.
I'm about to play MTG for the first time and starting with EDH. This is the kinda video I've been looking for. I don't have to scratch my head figuring out what to take out and add in. Thank you.
generally speaking when you play a few rounds, maybe 5 or 10, you'll figure out pretty quickly what the deck needs and which cards you don't like. It is nice to have a bunch of recommendations tho

Love this precon, I made my version more +1+1 and enchantment focused by adding Harden Scales and The Ozolith as well as some enchantresses and a ton more auras including the Wild Growth ramp auras. Also (since it is good in most decks) doubling season really goes nuts in this deck.

@@AshlenRose I'd leave the mana dork in. Take all the board wipes out but the best 2. I also know there's a card that works with the other possible commander, I can't remember it's name but I'd take it out with him.
Also, I'm super stoked to get a response from one of my favorite game knights!
So you guys desire slower games that will last more turns but then you cut Soul's Majesty which is exactly the kind of card that would slow the game down while having a big impact. At some point you must choose what kind of deck you want to build. It can't just be Wizard's responsibility to police your deck construction.
Love the nod to Princess Mononoke with the spirit boar Kaima

This was my plan for the deck as well, I have become quite fond of that crazy duo, for reasons I can't understand...but to find out that just to be LEGAL, I have to change the cards in the deck, I am thinking about going for the other one
Absolutely! I had them on the list originally but ended up going a different route (and there's so many routes to take, it's great).
I would definitely add that hydra, Wildwood Scourge, which would have a great synergy with the deck.
I love that hydra. It can grow so quickly, it‘s insane. Add the aura that doubles the counters and you are looking at a monster after e few turns.

Im actually pretty excited to give this one a go. The last couple of Gruul precons have been awesome IMO and I expect this one to also be. Seems like a commander you can build a couple of decks around and just slide him into the deck you feel like playing.

@@crazy_mode2618 there is no nissa, she was removed from the deck but anything else - a problem with marketing for sure. The second mossfire was supposed to be a mountain but its a nice freebie I suppose
Late to the party and to respond on why Whiptongue Hydra is good:
I have an Alela deck that makes Fairies, Thopters, and Angels. Half of the creatures I cast fly.
My wife plays Mono Green. Anytime she casts Whiptongue, I facepalm and rage a little. She hasn't hit less than 10 creatures every time.

The funniest card in the deck is Shifting Shadows. Add Cauldron of Souls to the deck to give Persist to the creatures killed by the aura. Each turn you get a random free modified creature. STONKS. Alternatively, let all your non-token creatures die so Bonehoard packs a punch.
About time cream of the crop got some much needed recognition!
Bloodforged battle axe is also broken if you are crazy enough to build balan as a commander. I played it before and it does more work than any sword of... equipment
A few cards I really like for this deck: curse of predation, song of freyalise, reins of the vinesteed, mark of fury, crown of flames, whip silk, season of growth, clash of realities, and maybe lifespinner if there's a good target to get
Iridescent Hornbeetle would have been a fun include. Stack the triggers right and you’ll create a bigger token generator. goblin anarchomancer beef up the deck as well making spells cheaper. If you’re also going the +1 counters route for modified, pridemalkin gives all creatures you control with a +1 counter on it Trample.

This deck fills in and solves alot of the issues for my riot deck and i can not wait to build.
I love everybody suggestion but I have one how about putting in all those cheap mana value ench. That you can bounce back your hand make a 2/2 .You do this 2 or 3 times in a turn .My point is this its some thing in your hand you know you can keep making 2/2's with and it is going to be hard to remove(that's without saying counterspell)👍✌️
I'm fascinated by the idea of combat control enchantress with Kaima as commander. If you go way back to find all the low mana value returning/cantrip enchantments and play them it seems like you might only occasionally get attacked by any creatures worth worrying about. IF you can keep Kaima on the board. I have a decklist on moxfieild if anyone is interested.

I would add things like Duskshell Crawler and Pridemalkin that put a +1+1 counter on a creature and give all creatures with those counters trample, maybe Scurry Oak and Herd Baloth to get even more tokens when they gain those counters, and most important Evolution Sage, Power Conduit and Plaguemaw Beast to boost even more the counters strategy .
And most important my favorite Hydra, Wildwood Scourge.
Nissa, Voice of Zendikar would be so good in this deck, and the deck will come with a plant token even though none of the cards in the precon make plat tokens, so it would be a really great upgrade.

For ramp in this deck, I’m focusing on land auras, since a Wild Growth, Utopia Sprawl or Fertile Ground will ramp as efficiently as land ramp while triggering Cheshiro if he’s already out. It helps keep your ramp cards valuable in the late game. Gonna try Smell Fear as a removal spell with proliferate, might be too clunky but the upside seems good.

I found this upgrade guide actually very interesting because i disagreed with almost all of ashlen's cuts! I think this may be because i tend to play lots of gruul strategies and so i have a dfferent perspective on these aggressive creature strategies, who knows? I tend to almost always blindly agree with the command zone so was super excited to watch a video where i had a difference of opinion, personally the main cards i thought should be cut was walking skyscraper, taurean mauler and decimate. Overall though I loved this video because i love gruul and the command zone!
Kinda the same feeling for me. Walking Skyscraper is an obvious cut but they let it in the deck.
Like Curse of conformity in the Coven Counters upgrade video (also with Ashlen), whereas she chose Kyler instead of Leinore...

Gonna be puting in all the free equip on etb equipment we’ve been getting. Just put in a dueling rapier, equip it to the 2/2 token and then put at least one counter on said token. A 5/3 for 1 mana should be a little bit fun. Then just all the cheap one and two cost auras that cantrip.
Grumgully the generous would be a good addition too!

Goblin Razerunners has actually won me some games, especially with doubling counters, or moving all the counters to it (for example with ozolith after a board wipe) it can deal a lot of damage.

I think the tokens are get for when you are playing someone that is can only remove your voltron commander by sacking. Making him have hexproof or shroud and then being indestructible can be done with equipment and green spell.

Damn it, JLK of Game Knights fame... I just spent 3 hours building a counters deck for this ... And now I am going to spend 3 more hours building the low equip cost Cheerios deck... You son of a gun
This deck is pretty strong untill you run in to flying creatures. The only thing you have against them is the hydra or one of the boardwipes, which also doesn't work if the flying creature is indestructible. there are no flying creatures in the deck and 1 with reach.

And all fliers die to all the board wipes included here..... 🤦
I'm surprised nobody mentioned persist synergies. Any counter is a modification: persist's -1/-1 counters count. So Cheshiro will put a +1/+1 counter on the creature, which will remove the -1/-1 counter.

This is my 2nd set, and I actually know what I'm doing this time, super excited to get this deck, not to play it, but there's a couple of the new cards that I want in a different deck. The other precon though I'm super excited to upgrade!

13:30 I built a kediss rograk partner deck thinking I could kill everyone at the same time with combat damage, my pod let me know I was wrong REAL quick
They both agreed that it needs more single target removal, then they didn't add any that I saw. They said to remove a lot of the boardwipes and only removed one.
I felt like since this is a budget upgrade, instead of focusing on trying to fix the removal it would be more worth while to strengthen the core of what the deck wants to do. More can absolutely be done if someone wants to take it farther, that's why we mention things like the board wipes and single target removal. :)
Watching this after seeing the controversy over the Nissa thing makes me wonder how/if they'll address it

I was thinking Sword of Hours. It's kind of like a second Fractal Harness. It adds a counter on attack. So the creature will stay Modified if you would switch it to another creature. Also potentially to double its counters.
