Loved this episode. Jordan had a really interesting take on what to include/remove in this deck. Great screen presence from both hosts as well. Thanks!
Gideon's loyalty counters count as counters for Felisa's death trigger. His first ability makes a ton of counters, then turn him into a creature and sac him making a token for each loyalty that was on him.
Fantastic episode! DJ is always so natural, and conversations with him are always fun! So happy to see more of Jordan too! He is so fun, so fun that more of the people behind the scenes have been able to be in the limelight, just so great!
Crystalline Crawler may be underappreciated ramp for this deck. Normally I wouldn't use it in a 2-color deck, but it's always nice in decks that throw +1/+1 counters around.
@@newskinn408 interesting. Those sets I never had the pleasure of getting into since I only got into magic around the Ixalan Era, but everything I've seen about them sounds wonderfully fantastical.
Inkshield frickin' wrecked us in a precon battle. The high ceiling you brought up is legit how it played out too (a 33/33 fractal instead of Craterhoof). It was amazing.
Don’t think it’s super important to the deck, but Selfless Squire gets +1/+1 counters from _any_ fog effect that saves your face. So dropping a Holy Day with her on the field let’s her grow even more.
I love saving my ass with Selfless Squire in my Queen Marchesa deck (Long may she reign.) Then when my opponents think I'm done for and swing at me I hit em with a Comeuppance.
I'm super excited for this deck! I'm going for a more political combat control, aikido kinda deck with a lot of buyback synergies. A lot more of an overhaul but still very fun, casual and budget!
Played a 5 player game with precons only. I used this face commander and had a blast. I came up with group rules like,”whoever holds the coveted jewel will not be attacked by me” and “whoever did the most damage to an opponent will not be attacked by me”. I was never the one doing huge damage. I was the one helping my opponents beat my opponents. I swung in and won in the end. Regardless of winning/losing it was fun. Players felt like they were making deals with the devil (me) all game.
I think Nils, Discipline Enforcer is a lot better than people are giving him credit for. You don't have to put counters on their creatures and if they already have a creature with counters, you're no worse off than before you cast him.
Most of the time people will go the path of least resistance "oh I can't attack this one player with my blightsteel unless I waste a removal spell on this one guy. Ok, I have two other players to take out first."
I'm sorry but I personally hope not. I feel like the josh/jimmy dynamic is solid. D.J. can also sometimes have some opinions that I disagree with or say things that kind of rub me the wrong way. Don't get me wrong, it's cool when he guest hosts, and that he's helping out with the workload at the moment. I just hope it's not a permanent thing.
Timo Stubchen I believe there was one part in the podcast where D.J. was talking about a new card that wasn't very good, but he said something along the lines of "that's fine, I want that effect in my decks". I don't know, I guess it's too much forced positivity for me. What do you like about D.J.? I'm also curious as to your thoughts :).
@@TheChickenLego Agreed. Especially in his deck techs over on his channel, sometimes the categories seem to be absolutely off in my opinion. Like on his Kardur, Doomscourge list, where he is only playing 33 lands with little more than 6 mana accelerators and not even a single dedicated card draw spell, and that in Rakdos, where you have a whole suite of amazing black spells to draw cards off of. The low land count paired with the low amount of draw will lead to poor games, I guarantee it. Some of the decisions just feel baffling to me. And stuff like that happens in a bunch of his deck techs. But that’s just my impression, he still seems to be a great guy, especially for helping out the CZ during high workload times, but I can’t say I agree with his deckbuilding all the time. 39:00 - You say you can play Oreskos Explorer on Turn 2 before playing your second land, but that's only possible if you hit sol ring or mana crypt. I'm not a huge fan of the explorer in Breena because it's never a good value on turn two unless someone has cast Rampat Growth or similar. Most of the time this card can only be cast for value on turns 3 or later, which are the turns in which you wanna cast Breena and get to attacking. And casting it without getting even a single plains is just not worth it, so you usually will not cast on turn two. It's just awkward.
I bought all 5 decks. Going to take the coveted jewel out of this deck and slot it into the lorehold deck. When you can sack the jewel for 1 opponents aren't as likely to attack you for it. And if they try, you sack it, they get nothing. Next turn you do pay 6, get 2 of them back (which is 6 mana as well), and draw 6!
I’m a super political player and I LOVE this deck. I’ve definitely made changes and tossed Gideon ASAP but the deck just runs so well politically. Breena actually ended up knocking out all three of my opponents with that +1 counter ability and commander damage. Amazing.
I made my deck into small flyer's. Some of the most valuable cards I added were The Ozolith, Spirit Bonds, and Blot out the Sky. It's done well the few times I've played it
Oreskos Explorer does not specify basics. You can find plains with multiple colours, or even plains with cycling! I have it in Alesha, and have played it in a Ephara. I like it. Its two mana card advantage and colourfixing, with a body.
Love watching budget upgrades from different members of the command zone. It has helped shape my way of thinking how to build decks. One card might not be in this particular deck but is really good in the strategy. I would love to see more staff doing budget upgrades. Also you guys make work such less. I put in my ear buds and listen to any content you make. Keep it up!
Are you guys gonna do the budget upgrade for the Witherbloom commander deck? I know you did the other four, and those are the decks to be featured on extra-turns, but I was really hoping to see the budget upgrades for all of the decks. You guys do such a good job coming up with little tweaks or cards that I would have never thought of, and this deck I was really excited for and really excited to see your edits. Coveted Jewel seems like a fun (read: not really all that competitive) addition to a deck that can easily sacrifice and recur it. Daretti or Osgir seem like cool commanders for the card.
I would hate it in osgir cause that means when they get through they are getting like 6 cards and 2 giant mana rocks... basically what im saying is you make the copies of the coveted jewel and get attacked then you just basically played king maker and lost the whole table the board... because if they are going to attack you like that there is no way osgir is living to sacrifice them before they get given away to the opponent...
@@d43m0n412 Well, the goal would obviously be to cast Coveted Jewel after Osgir is already in play and ready to sacrifice it, netting you 2 extra cards and 2 extra mana. You would then only recur Coveted Jewel once you had another, ideally free, sacrifice outlet - which there are plenty of in Boros colors and of the colorless variety.
@@Nr4747 You'd need to recur the Jewel from exile though, since it goes there when you make the two token copies via Osgir. And there is only one specific white card in existence that does that (there is a green one but that can't be played in Osgir)

I agree. This is the one deck that I will be using a commander from outside the deck to run it. Shadrix is just so much better imo. Only I'll draw cards and I can still be political about tokens or counters
@@dorsalfin22 right? And the way you can control your opponents creatures in either giving them inklings or counters is a big plus side for me. Besides there are cards that allow you to protect your permanent creature or enchantments
24:54 - Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't tokens not considered spells? That would mean that Deathbringer Liege's effects won't trigger with them entering the field. Is this right?
Together Forever is actually sneaky good because it only checks for a counter upon activation, when that creature dies during that turn it doesn't still need a counter on it. In other words you can target Walking Ballista and when it dies from having its last counter removed it'll still come back to your hand :-)
Edgar Markov is gonna love Felisa, Fang of Silverquill. he puts +1/+1 counters on creatures when he attacks, so if Felisa also attacks and does the same to one of them, thats pretty sweet. wait wait wait.. the card draw is attack trigger? you want "Reconnaissance" in this deck. it is around 7 $ (8.5 $ if you use card kingdom), but its so good with Breena. you can attack and pull your creatures back that were blocked and get to trigger everyone of your creatures. I bought a precon once that had Teysa, Envoy of ghosts on the front, I guess it was the first version of commander decks, it was from Dragon's maze, I agree, if it wasn't 7 mana it would be great. So.. what would DJ take out for the 3 things he suggested to put in? because there are 13 things to take out in total if you include DJ's suggestions. personally I would remove Nils and fain, I don't like those. Pendant of Prosperity is also very group huggy. I don't like that one. And like I said, for the 14th. card, I would add "Reconnaissance" if you got that bit of extra money and for that card I would remove "Promise of Loyalty" as it's just a very bad 5 mana "sometimes hits their biggest creature". its not good enough. And for my 15th card, since I want to have it at a nice number. I would add some sort of tutor. this would depend of your budget. Ideally you want Demonic tutor of course, but Diabolic tutor is fine too, just so you can tutor up a card when you need it. for the tutor I'd remove that other clunky 5 mana card called "Infernal Offering". so those are my 15 cards out, 15 cards in list.
The thing about Gideon is the enviroment, there is a token deck among the 2021 precons. And you can tap your mana, exile all the board and play some threats
Nils discipline enforcer can work in a Jeskai Ludevic goad deck, the only problem is that it's a ghostly prison on a creature, so you'd need protection givers to block single target removal and indestructible givers or Idris Elba's protection, cosmic intervention, etc. for board wipes.
I built Shandrix Silverquill, which I feel like is a more interesting political card than Felisa or Brenna, and can run both depending on how you build it.
Weitd tech, this is the colors to put Archtype of Finality and Archtype of (the white one) to get your board First Strike and Deathtouch, and taking them both away from anybody else's creatures. Further discinticentiving attackers
Sounds like all the cards they removed were just the high cmc which I understand since Command Zone centers more on mid to high power play groups and those groups focus more on non-combat damage and winning faster I for one will keep Teysa in my eventual Shadrix deck but to each their own. And of course, thank you for the content guys!
OMG you guys won't believe what happened to me. So I was watching the Jimmy and Josh ads, you know, the usual, and then SUDDENLY, OUT OF THE BLUE, you can't imagined what appeared on my screen. It was command zone content!!
Why noone talks about Puppeteer Clique as an upgrade for Breena. Persist seems very strong with Brenna, it cares about opponents graveyards an it creates an attackers you don't have to care about. With a sac outlet it would be even stronger.
I will say it's odd that the general options are so different; feel like it's gonna be similar to the wizard emminence precon, where a chunk of the deck was totally unrelated because it was built for Kess, one of the secondary generals. That aside...I feel like both of the dual-color generals are potentially a lot of fun, and the outlines you guys placed were a great place to start with the upgrade path.
Probably because based on my groups play testing straight out of the box winterbloom is way to slow comparitivly and needs alot of love dont get me wrong the cards are strong just slow
Gideon seems like the point of him is to just be a red herring. It’s a secondary target that’s going to either bait out removal or take a couple swings to get rid of. You’d never actually 0 him to turn him into a creature unless you needed a creature. It’s also a Nev’s Disk in a way. It’s just posing the threat of that ultimate, even though you’d never actually use it. It hits me as a political card sort of but it’s still probably better off not being in the deck for something a bit better in another aspect of the deck
As I understand Breena , the attacker who does not attack the player with the least life and not the player who controls Breena gets to draw cards (one per player) and the controller of Breena gets the counters ?
wow! congratulations to Jimmy on finally getting a decent haircut and Josh looks taller in this episode for some reason. must be the beard. everybody knows beards add a couple inches.
Inkshield is definitely among the top 3 cards of this Deck, because it can single handedly win you the game. Being a 5 cmc card however makes it kinda predictable, causing experienced players to poke you to death instead of fullswinging you
Author of Shadows on top of being rather expensive belongs more in Planar Portal than in this deck imo. Yes we can get some valuable cards but we still have to cast them & we don't get value for casting from exile.
problem with breena is when everybody is at 40 she doesn't trigger, either for you or your opponents, so if you cast her and nobody's life changes your opponents are probably going to avoid attacking with their 1/1 chump blockers and you get 0 triggers even on your own next turn when breena can attack. it's not true that you have to attack "not the opponent with the lowest life", he has to have MORE life, that doesn't include equal.
Remember, Felisa creates tokens for each counter, not just +1/+1 counters
Upvoted, because this is important info.
Cause those all important keyword counters
very cool, them ikoria counters will come a long way
So run Kenrith or something with Felisa, Hapatra, Volrath and the Scorpion god? :D
great for things that store lots of nonsense counters, like Spore counters, Icatian Moneychanger(becomes W for three 2/1s if you can Sac him), etc

And you can tap your mana, exile all the board and play some threats
can breena trigger multiple times for striking multiple opponents? Or is it written so that it only triggers once?
Nils discipline enforcer can work in a Jeskai Ludevic goad deck, the only problem is that it's a ghostly prison on a creature, so you'd need protection givers to block single target removal and indestructible givers or Idris Elba's protection, cosmic intervention, etc. for board wipes.
Coveted Jewel should have been in the Boros deck! Sac it, reanimate it, get 6 cards 6 mana. Then sac the copies before your opponents can get them.
I-
THAT WORKS?
OHOHOHOHOHOH
however how about two mirrors
Or even better
Two gateways to emptyness
And 2 chromatic quarries?
you'll spend six to bring them back and 2 more to get rid of them - still 2-draw 6 seems decent
I built Shandrix Silverquill, which I feel like is a more interesting political card than Felisa or Brenna, and can run both depending on how you build it.
Wow DJ hosting first time CZ podcast! Nice!
Lorehold Upgrade Video: Am I nothing to you?
When Jordan says "Owl Lady" (4:14-4:16), all I can think of is "Eda, the Owl Lady" from "The Owl House".
Would Scholarship Sponsor after Teferi's Protection combo off (using floated mana)?
It works, but is not worth it.
44:41 Jace's tiny legs give me life.
Weitd tech, this is the colors to put Archtype of Finality and Archtype of (the white one) to get your board First Strike and Deathtouch, and taking them both away from anybody else's creatures. Further discinticentiving attackers
I really wish josh was on this episode, i plan on getting this deck and he always has some really down to earth opinions.
Sounds like all the cards they removed were just the high cmc which I understand since Command Zone centers more on mid to high power play groups and those groups focus more on non-combat damage and winning faster
I for one will keep Teysa in my eventual Shadrix deck but to each their own.
And of course, thank you for the content guys!
Ahh breena. The surprise voltron commander
Fain, the Broker seems like a lot of value in a Korvold Fae-Cursed King deck
Fain + Luminous Broodmoth seems fun. Or the old standby Intruder Alarm
QUESTION..... does mana value scale with commander tax???
Felisa doesn't just care about +1/+1 counters.
OMG you guys won't believe what happened to me. So I was watching the Jimmy and Josh ads, you know, the usual, and then SUDDENLY, OUT OF THE BLUE, you can't imagined what appeared on my screen. It was command zone content!!
“Just smashing noobs” love that!!!
Would love to see DJ make a deck list for Felisa!
Why noone talks about Puppeteer Clique as an upgrade for Breena. Persist seems very strong with Brenna, it cares about opponents graveyards an it creates an attackers you don't have to care about. With a sac outlet it would be even stronger.
that is pretty sweet
hadn't thought about it but I like that idea a lot
Ikoria counters, charge counters, all the random counters throughout magic will trigger for Felisa. She doesn’t just care about +1/+1 counters.
With all the counters being thrown around, I'd think adding The Ozolith would be useful, wouldn't it?
maybe its expensive?
@@colefreestone1508 i think it is, but i don't think much higher than some of of the cards added
@@IkeanerReborn I do agree that it would be a wicked card to put in this deck
Noooooo why witherbloom is left out of extra turns!! Sad pests noise
Probably because based on my groups play testing straight out of the box winterbloom is way to slow comparitivly and needs alot of love dont get me wrong the cards are strong just slow
Witherbloom is in extra turns! Ladee is on extra turns and her upgrade hasn't aired yet
@@deanm8408 So wich deck is left out?
@@oweebu1757 the prismari deck upgraded by DJ
DJ says take care - *something is missing from the outro*
DJ “Peace”
There it is!
"This is a deck you can bring your monocle to."
More like your Harris tweed jacket with the leather elbow pads, amirite?
Inkshield, not a reprit but one of the new cards, is worth 10 bucks. So take that into account when buying
Loved the additions and tips for the Silverquill precon. Great episode! Would like to see more variation with DJ, JP, JW,JLK!
How does breena work one v one? Also isn't fain the broker that one trade offer meme? You receive X I receive X?
Yep. So if 4 ppl at the table, up to 2 cards, 3 players means 1 card and 2 players is 0
wow! congratulations to Jimmy on finally getting a decent haircut and Josh looks taller in this episode for some reason. must be the beard. everybody knows beards add a couple inches.
My groups kranko player might have a problem with me ink shielding him with. Especially when he has 200plus goblins
Inkshield is definitely among the top 3 cards of this Deck, because it can single handedly win you the game. Being a 5 cmc card however makes it kinda predictable, causing experienced players to poke you to death instead of fullswinging you
Nice video. Hoping the witherbloom video comes out soon!
Author of Shadows on top of being rather expensive belongs more in Planar Portal than in this deck imo. Yes we can get some valuable cards but we still have to cast them & we don't get value for casting from exile.
Pretty Sure Oreskos Explorer wants to be paired with the new white archeology map or whatever its called
Would Dreadhorde Invasion be a good addition to the deck also with the proliferation mechanic
I’m just switching out the commander for the elder dragon and calling it a day
“I like group hug when you can choose who you’re hugging”
Aww yeah! Love these videos checking out the new decks!
Are you guys doing a Willowdusk / Witherbloom upgrade too please?
Its too bad there isnt a doubling season in white or black.
At least you can jam anointed procession into this.
problem with breena is when everybody is at 40 she doesn't trigger, either for you or your opponents, so if you cast her and nobody's life changes your opponents are probably going to avoid attacking with their 1/1 chump blockers and you get 0 triggers even on your own next turn when breena can attack. it's not true that you have to attack "not the opponent with the lowest life", he has to have MORE life, that doesn't include equal.
