Yeah I've gotten that multiple times last week. So the only solution is check it multiple times throughout the day to make sure it's still what you want it to be. Actually thus is nothing new. years ago they did that all the time.

As far as onboarding goes I'm sure it's all about getting underneath and physically looking at those jaws to make sure they're locked in around that kingpin. I've always done that through the years and haven't lost a trailer yet so it's a good method to make sure you don't lose a trailer lol

Tug test is one of the 5 automatic failures at onboarding. Just tap the gas pedal a few times after you hook the trailer and you'll be good

Yes, they want a double tug on the assessment. It's one of 7 key items that if missed are an auto fail on the pre-trip assessment

Empty or loaded or even bobtail doesn't make any difference it all pays the same as far as the paid by the miles goes.
